what do you imagine Tatia was like? I know Nina said that she played Tatia as sort of pure but idk

Oh, hell no! There’s no way she would be considering how Katherine and Elena are. 

Okay, so to get into this, I need to unpack a few things– some is headcanon, some seems like reasonable supposition, and some flies in the face of the retcons we were handed later on in the show (Amara who? Never heard of her) 

First off, I think the doppelgangers are exact copies of each other, body, soul, and mind. There’s absolutely nothing about the flashbacks we’ve seen of Katherine, and the way Elena’s character was developed, to suggest that they’re not on completely parallel paths. I subscribe to the theory that the only differences in their personality comes from their lived life experiences; their nurturing differs, but they have the exact same nature. The major deviation point is actually Klaus’s murder of Katherine’s entire family– from that moment on, Katherine has absolutely no one in the world left to care about, other than herself. We’ve seen how Elena always flirts with setting down this exact same path, especially after Jeremy dies in season 4, and how she can be just as much of a ruthless liar as Katherine. (my reasoning on them being the same metaphysically hinges on the nature of the sacrifice itself: the whole point in having a doppelganger was to replicate the act that created the vampires, with the same blood being used to free Klaus as was used in the initial dark ritual that bound him– it stands to reason that this would only work if the identity of the girl were mirrored as well, down to the soul, so that an indistinguishable from the original was being sacrificed) 

So, what does this mean? I think all signs point to Tatia also having these inherent qualities– like her descendants, she would be vivacious, caring, wonderful at reading people; also, capable of twisting people around her fingers to get what she wants; clever; resourceful; definitely polyamorous, as Elena and Katherine both repeatedly fall in love with multiple men at the same time; mischievous too. She must have been fascinating. 

I don’t at all buy this idea that Tatia was some pure naive girl. I think she was a single mother, living a hard life, but ambitious and witty and romantic enough to secure the devotion of at least two eligible men. The tragedy is what their parents did to her because of that. 

A few asides on this topic– I don’t really put much stock in the Originals twist that Elijah actually killed Tatia later. Part of this rejection is that I also totally block out any memory of the Amara/Silas/they were the original doppelgangers storyline. For me, and for my fics, Tatia is the originator of the line. So, I stick with the original story handed us, that in order to turn their children into vampires, Klaus’s parents took the girl he and his brother loved, chosen for no particular reason except they needed a blood sacrifice and wanted to punish this girl for loving both of their sons, and they murdered her. 

So, if Tatia is the one who originally had the face, that would mean a few final things. I’ve always thought that the Petrova doppelgangers must have something really uncanny about their faces– some supernatural allure that would make people notice them, be able to recognize them for what they are, even without ever having laid eyes on them before. (How else could Trevor have known that Katherine was the doppelganger if there wasn’t something… bewitching about her face?) Perhaps this only applies to them when they are mortal, because they become a different sort of supernatural entity if they transition into vampires. But, Katherine and Elena have always had a strong Helen of Troy quality to them. The face that launched a thousand ships. Tatia wouldn’t have had that. She would have been exquisitely beautiful (I mean, Nina Dobrev!) but not hauntingly, maddeningly so the way I imagine Katherine and Elena to appear. 

But, I think it’s the force of her personality that would haunt Klaus and Elijah a thousand years later.

Quinni was the QUEEN this season

Her murder wall was amazing

The scene where she freaks out because everything is changing so fast

Keeping herself alive until the others can find her after being bitten by a venomous snake

Refusing to mask for several days just to show her friends (Darren especially) just how much different she is when not pretending even a bit

I love that her favorite books made a reappearance, special interests are so important

Everything with the school captain debate because of course she knows everyone at the school and her calling Sasha and Spider out was perfect

The little moments with her and Cash at the zoo (I'm an autistic Cash truther)

Her wanting to find Bird Psycho because she feels like that's the one thing she can do for Amerie

And she does

Asking Sasha to be her vice captain and Sasha thinking Quinni wants to get back together

Honestly I think working together might help Sasha understand Quinni a bit more and then I could see their relationship working out better this time if they do give it another go

I can't stop thinking about the friendship between Quinni and Cash in Heartbreak High. I really hope we get more scenes between them in future seasons.

I can't stop thinking about Cash's face when Quinni is having her meltdown because he knows he can relate on some level. He's listening to her every word, and he is feeling so deeply for her.

His face when she says she doesn't want to be a burden made me sob. He looks so sad.

Quinni's words must have held some resonance with Cash, and I can't stop thinking about it.

Because he doesn't want to be a burden either, and he is trying so hard in his relationship with Darren and it still isn't enough.

Quinni says: "And then I find this thing, this one thing that I can control, that I can share with you all and participate in, one thing that I'm useful for, and I'm told I'm doing that wrong too. It's just not fair."

Cash knows how that feels. He's doing absolutely everything in his relationship with Darren, but he still feels like it's not enough. He's really letting her words sink in.

Quinni needs someone that can understand what she's feeling, and Cash can (in a different way).

I love that we saw Cash pick up on how upset Quinni was at the zoo. She needs someone that notices her, and Cash did.

Anyway, I love the scenes with Quinni and Cash together. And I hope we get more of their friendship in future. Because I think they understand each other on a very personal level. But maybe that's just my autistic, asexual self hoping they can find some solace in each other.

I resonate with Cash just as much as I resonate with Quinni, and I'm not saying that Cash is also possibly autistic but it's possible with his stimming, his mental health history, his deep empathy for living things and his struggles communicating how he feels. I'm running with this headcanon.

I need to talk about Cash Piggott and how important his character is to the asexual community.

I absolutely adore the fact that Cash calls people out on their acephobia and never, ever apologises for who he is. He doesn't think he's broken.

In season one, we see Darren say "you know what, I think there's something really fucking wrong with you, Cash," and Cash immediately, with no hesitation, screams "well fuck you then".

In season two, we see Dusty say that he's being selfish asking Darren to give up sex and he immediately stands up and says "fuck this" because he knows he doesn't have to listen to people making him feel bad about his sexuality.

And when he's talking to his nan about it, Cash says "it's not fair, I would do anything, why does it have to be the one thing I can't change about myself?"

In every single one of these scenes, we never see Heartbreak High blame Cash for his sexuality. We never see him apologise to anyone for not feeling sexual attraction, and we never see him feel guilty about it, or try to change who he is.

CA$H recognises that his sexuality might be difficult for people to accept and understand, but he never lets other people make him feel like he's broken, or flawed. And that's so powerful to see.

Because asexual people are not broken. And we can't be fixed. And we are not being selfish for putting in boundaries.

I absolutely adore Douglas Piggott. He means the world to me, and this representation is so, so important.
