saw ur tweet abt Tim’s colors I don’t disagree but I think they should rebrand him as orange so the Gotham cast has the entire rainbow
i also think he could fit the orange/yellow colors/aesthetics! actually i think, symbolism wise, tim would rock the yellow color more than anyone (out of the main 5) cause so much of his symbolism was attributed to the contrast of light and darkness and between him and bruce.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in order: batman (2016) #135/batman #900, detective comics #620, detective comics #621
my idea for tim is for him to retire after robin and become an independent crime journalist or maybe even a DA so they idea of tim’s colors becoming yellow-ish as a way to separate himself from the red and green color scheme while still having a color palette resembling of his role in the family as the light breaking through the darkness could have a lot of potential as a story about healing and finding his way out the tunnel if handled with the respect and understanding tim so desperately needs right now.
unironically i think a ‘drake’ inspired color scheme for his civilian identity (brown/yellow/orange) would rock! something of the sort:

people on tumblr will make eloquent posts about how the batboys are actually ‘female coded’ instead of actually reading about a female character

somebody made a post about this on here but you’re like the tim person,,,
apparently jack drake’s real name is jonathan??? according to robin 1993 #73???
THE TIM PERSON KAHDJS im glad 😭 regarding the ‘jonathan’ drake, it seems more a situation where the marshals are intentionally trying to treat the drakes as ‘lesser than’ by intentionally getting his name wrong.
Tumblr media
while at first it might seem like the marshals were simply mistaken, later in the comic tim’s name also gets ‘misinterpreted’ even tho jack continuously remarks that his son’s name is tim, so it most likely has to do with the political climate of gotham at the time.
Tumblr media
this happens during no man’s land, where effectively everyone outside of gotham city treated gotham even more like they were ‘the scum of the earth’. this is more a commentary to how gotham being ‘no man’s land’ normalized even further classist remarks towards the gothamites. every other mention of jack’s ‘official name’ name him jack and tim’s middle name, JACKson, would suggest his name is effectively jack. see: identity crisis #6

you ever think about how tim never got the chance to come out to jack, janet and dana. how they raised that boy, taught him to be himself, to make him the man he is right now, and yet they will never know.

the thing about jason’s ‘brotherly bond’ with tim is that everytime it only benefits jason. its only about ‘making jason’s story richer’ and never about benefiting tim, who’s characterization got completely ruined to favor the role of jason’s caretaker when ‘big bad brucie makes jason mad’. genuinely is there a scenario when they ‘act like brothers’ when its not either fanfic bs or tim telling jason, in the year of our lord 2024, that its okay that he died in a comic back in 1988? tim never benefits from this relationship, its always about jason. and im not only talking about fanfics anymore because, to my dismay, the canon is now strongly influenced by fanon and we are getting comics like ‘knight terrors’ where tim tells jason that ‘he is not a failure’. tim. timothy jackson drake. the same dude that blatantly told jason, as he was getting beaten up, that he is still better than him? that dunk on him whenever?

we need tim drake to have an organic friendgroup far away from the bats. not necessarily bringing back old characters but at least have a genuine group of people in his life he cares about. his entire character relied on having a clear distinction between tim drake and robin, on keeping organic relationships as tim drake intact while also adhering to his job as robin the boy wonder. ‘red robin tim’ neglecting that side of the character, neglecting tim drake to the point of becoming ‘tim wayne’ and cutting away all ties not just with the bats but also with his friends served as such a nice tool to see how this line he spent his whole life preserving became blurrier and blurrier without him noticing until it broke him. him having friends as tim drake and away from the bats is such a necessary tool to understand who tim is and to write him properly.

i think about the batman mantle being a ‘creature cloaked in nightmares’ every so often. we need to bring back the bat as an unsettling entity of its own, haunting those who seek for guidance and an identity of their own, after experiencing incredible loss, and instilling fear in their hearts so that they can begin their journey to find true purpose, motivated by their obsession with that fear

the thing about ‘power hungry janet drake’ is that it could actually serve as a good prompt on how a woman in power during the 80s/90s was perceived by her business associates and acting accordingly to not have her authority undermined but they just use it to abuse ‘poor little meow meow tim’ and how ‘brucie is so much better than the evil drakes that lock him in the basement and force feed him shrimps’. powersuit, cutthroat janet but just as a facade for a woman desperate to cling onto her identity and yet still being perceived as ‘socialite jack drake’s wife’ and how that reflects on parenting tim, constantly being away from the trips and the duality of wanting to be a mother next to your son but also providing to him a safe future / loving your husband dearly but also feeling the pressure of the world on your shoulders and the underlying jealousy towards him for having everything she cannot simply for being a woman in the 80s

90s detective comics stories be like:
story one, batman is currently haunted by the mortal soul of the dead robin, jason todd, as he begs forgiveness on his knees for the sin of being born as a failure of a father
story two, the citizens of gotham are currently being faced with a sociopolitical dilemma as a new vigilante challenges them to question their faith in the corrupt institutions
story three, mister whiskers is gone! my sweet cat :( my meow meow

from mother to daughter.
steph is braiding her daughter’s hair, humming the music coming from the radio and suddenly she is 9 again, and her mother is gently brushing her hair, she is loved and now she is giving that love to another daughter who will cherish it and give it to her own. her daughter's blonde hair tangled on her finger and she is trying as hard as she can to make it not too painful, shes got new hair ties and colorful hairpins. her daughter is gonna look so pretty.
steph is treating her child’s bruises after she fell from the bike, her first time getting hurt, and suddenly she is 5 again, her mother is putting bandages on her arm, arthur was piss drunk that night. she is kissing every bruise and suddenly it doesnt hurt anymore. crystal sang a melody every time steph got hurt as the ice pack brushed over the scratched skin, making her jolt. it felt nice after a few minutes, almost like surviving the sting was a reward. like a badge of honor. but her daughter was not to endure that. she already knew she was strong. she didnt need to prove it like her mother did.
steph is scolding her daughter after getting in trouble, trying to help a friend, and she can see a pout on her face because she knows she is just as disappointed as steph is, and suddenly she is 15 again and her mother just found her spoiler costume and she wants to be mad but she cant. she gets it. she gets her desire to prove herself but she knows she can do better. she just cant figure out what would that be. how could she be better than being herself? than be a hero?
steph is taking her daughter to visit her mother and crystal sees it as clear as water that theres no trait of dean on her granddaughter’s face, that she is all steph, the same smile, the same eyes but fewer bruises on her body. steph’s daughter was safe, better than steph had ever been. but she never blamed crystal, tho the latter blamed herself plenty. because as much pain and bruise to share, there were many more braids to make, bruises to mend. so much love yet left to be taught.
from mother to daughter.

i think an important arc that implicitly brings to life the parallels between broken brucebat and azbat is year 3, the one from batman 436 to 439, the one that sets the seeds for the introduction of tim drake, because it creates an interesting comparison between bruce and jpv/azrael at their lowest, both tampering with their 'base of operation' to disrespect the legacy of the inhabitant.
with bruce, for example, his inability to process jason's death got him ridding the manor of any sign of jason's existence and instead fixate on his role as batman. not just the crime fighting side, but the mythos as a whole - to the point where he almost called nightwing 'robin'. hanging onto the mythos that is so important to batman, ignoring bruce's wishes to mourn his own son. he is rejecting bruce’s side completely, the compassionate man who loved his children, and replacing it with the image of the strong, brute batman who pushes everyone bruce has ever loved away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for azrael, the need to find an identity and carve his own path on the mythos brought him to desecrate the batcave by introducing a shooting range with batman’s enemies as targets, because jpv has been taught that batman would never kill, making the suit shaped based on azrael’s, a judge and executioner, what batman was never supposed to be, and tarnishing his relationships with robin and commissioner gordon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
azbat’s relationship with robin is especially interesting because the suit being a symbol of hope could only be achieved by the cloth being used, the circus costume, filled with pain and grief but also sweet memories and hopes for a new life, for dick grayson as ward and helper of bruce and batman. that very suit was now being rejected by azbat, because ‘batman needs a robin but azbat needs nobody’ and, in the same place where dick grayson was shown the light, the suit of batman, for the first time, now tim drake was being nearly choked to death by azbat gone berserk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but then there is it. bruce ‘successfully’ manages to witness zucco’s death, what batman has always tried to teach dick against, betraying his robin, the way azbat has finally destroyed tim, showing his 'worthlessness' in the face of the true strength of azbat and kicked him out of the cave, betraying his robin, and their vulnerable side comes out. they shudder at the idea that they might have ever wished for what had happened, clinging onto the morals that become more and more warped and confused, onto their job as batman and their duty to gotham.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘taking the cowl off’ was the only thing that could save them, tho with azbat was more literal. in bruce’s case, questioning the usefulness of a batman without a robin was a clear sign that his work was not needed, not in those conditions, that he put a child (tim) in danger because of his own recklessness, therefore ‘taking the power from batman’.

janet and jack on the brink of a divorce would have paved the way for so many stories if dc werent a coward and fridged janet. them actually getting a divorce and tim now has two houses to live in, two parents to lie to. and how would janet feel about tim spending so much time with bruce, about the bruises on her son’s face? would she feel like a failure as a mother and blame the divorce for making tim feel like he needs to run away from everyone? maybe janet is the one to purchase drake manor and maybe tim spends more time at janet’s because it was closer to wayne manor but jack feels like tim loves janet more and that he’s replacing him with bruce wayne, that maybe janet moved on already and now she’s trying her luck with the bachelor living next door? and then dana like the feeling of having a stepmom that is actually nice and kind but it still feels like a betrayal to janet because ‘there’s only one woman i can love like a mother’ but also… its dana and she is great and she never tried to steal janet’s spot in tim’s heart but it still feels unfair towards janet to love dana like a mother. throw in there some backstory on janet and jack, they are canon new money so how was their life before being ‘the drakes’? or when did they have tim? like maybe they had him when they were too young and inexperienced, maybe they thought they could pull it off and protect him from the world but then the trip at haly’s, the day tim’s life had changed forever. and what about janet and jack? how did the trip to the circus change their lives? they were already shown bickering but haly’s circus must have had a weight on their relationship that couldn’t be shaken away. imagine taking your son to the circus, to try and make him happy and have a nice family hangout, and you inadvertently exposed him to death and there’s nothing you can do as you stare helplessly because you took him there. so you can only blame the other and find some comfort in being the parent that could have prevented it, but was victim of the circumstances. and who would find out about tim being robin first? how would janet react? would she have tried to talk it out with tim instead of forbidding him to be robin? would she have understood why he does what he does? janet meeting stephanie, getting to know the girl that loved her son even with a goofy mask and thighs on, how would steph feel about janet? and so much more like i need this so bad, you don’t understand
