Dolly Parton has come to do a show in my town. We couldn't afford tickets, so me and my mom sold my stepdad so we could go.
It turned out that we sold him to Dolly Parton, she made him sing with her and then she gave him back.

I've personally never understood the line of thinking that comes with not reaching out to people to see what happens. I think it definitely depends on the situation/relationship, but I also think what matters most is how they act/treat you when you're together in person/face-to-face. Yes- reaching out (first) is a sign that they're thinking of you and want to talk to you, but it's not like you're constantly going to be on their mind.
I was once in the mindset of doing this, but from my experience it was just that I was lonely and wanted attention/love from the people around me. It took a while for me to learn that people have their own lives and thoughts and they don't revolve around me. (I'M NOT SAYING THIS IS THE CASE FOR EVERYONE- I just needed a reality check because I WANTED the world to revolve around me.)
On the other end of this situation, if a friend stopped texting and then ghosted me I'd be confused. I understand not wanting to always be the first to reach out, but to drop them if they don't do it for you?
Maybe- just maybe- ask them to. Tell them how you feel and how you want your relationship to be more consistent/whatever other things you feel are lacking. Having a conversation is 100x more beneficial than dropping them or ending your friendship because they failed a test they didn't know they were taking.
i’ve heard a lot of people say “don’t reach out to your friends first and see how many people will remain in your life. those are your true friends” and i get it. it sucks and it’s tiring constantly being the one to message first, to initiate hang outs but don’t take this so literally. some friendships require initiation. i have lost touch with so many people who genuinely cared about me and wanted me in their life because i stopped reaching out. it’s a hard pill to swallow but honestly some people just suck at it and it doesn’t mean they don’t love and value you. i’ve reconnected with some people over the past few months and it’s crazy how genuinely happy they are to see me and how engaged they are in the conversation. i just think sometimes we’re too harsh on each other & too quick to emphasize other peoples flaws and remove them from our lives but then we’ll all be alone and what’s the point of life then!!!!

This happens to me with my writing a lot, and I agree. I think maybe they think they're being helpful- I can't tell you how much I've (or you've) heard "Well since you like doing it it'll be a job you enjoy! You won't be miserable!"
All honesty, I think I would be (miserable that is). Taking something I love and making it something I have to do to maintain my wellbeing, home, and any expenses I want to make is probably the worst decision I could make. It would ruin any joy I find in it if I'm not doing it FOR MYSELF (like you said).
I think this applies to so many kinds of art and other passions, I just don't think (for me- personally) it would be a good idea to make it a career because then so many things depend on something you once found joy in doing casually.
i really do hate that if you're an artist you're expected to do something with it or want more out of it in some way. so it's seen as more 'valuable'. they either want you to go off to college or monetize it or both, you're expected to want that, you're expected to have making money as an end goal, you're expected to join the industry, if you like making fanart then you'll be encouraged to veer away from it to make stuff that's more personal and and less 'shallow'. there is no expectation that people want to make art for the sake of making art. it's all the belief that money should be made off of it and the only art that has value Outside of that has to hold some deep intellectual meaning to be considered worthy of respect and I just. Fuck man. Can a guy not be an artist just wanting to draw anime characters with anatomically incorrect angel and devil wings or some shit

I'm not a multilingual writer myself but I love seeing my fellow writers who are post their work!
Often I think their work is seen as so beautiful because of the work they put into it, compared to writing in their first language.
(I also think it's super impressive knowing more than one language in general, but making art with it brings a special kind of appreciation.)
Sending my love and motivation to multilingual writers!!
Shout-out to multilingual writers who are writing in their second (or third and so on) language.
The frustration of speaking it fluently, but still having to google basic words when you're writing.
The absolute joy of finding a word that sounds just perfect and conveys exactly what you mean.
Doubting all your grammar and being afraid to post it or even send it to a beta reader.
The euphoria of someone calling your use of this language, that is not your mother tongue, beautiful.

I see a lot of ‘cis’ women say they wish they were androgynous in the way men were or they wish they were pretty in the way men were. This is your sign to go try to do that. You may find you enjoy being an androgynous woman. You may find you no longer identify as a woman. You may find you don’t like androgyny. You will not know until you try. Cut your hair if you’ve always wanted to but have been afraid to. Shop in the men’s section if you’ve been too nervous to. Wear clothing with an androgynous silhouette. Experiment with binding, take baby steps with compression bras if you want. Wear unisex scents. Live life. Try things you want to try. A lot of cis women do not understand the joys of mens pants and mens deodorant. I think everyone should try both of those things.

As someone who started out reading fanfiction and then started writing it myself, I simply don't understand people who do this or say things like this.
I have been on the end of an unfinished fic (and like the person above mentioned- that's on me for choosing to read an unfinished and/or updating fic). It's not fun, I get it, it's a bit sad. But maybe you should use your imagination? DON'T GO TO AI- have silly little thoughts about it (and share with the author because I know I would love to hear about what people think of my stuff).
I have ALSO been on the side of not finishing writing a fic. Like OP said- we have lives. We have emotions and relationships and THINGS that stop us from finishing or writing something. But to reiterate what OP said- WE OWE YOU NOTHING! If you're so upset write your own fanficiton (maybe then you'll understand why ours remain unfinished).
Fanfiction is a H O B B Y. Both reading it and writing it. I understand how much hobbies and passions mean to people seeing as I have my own, but this is not life or death.
Stop hurting somebody because you're bored.
*THIS WAS SENT TO A FRIEND. NOT ME*
Tumblr media
the friend who received this is too nice to say something about it but i have reached a point now where i have seen them receive so many messages like this that i just can't keep my mouth shut anymore
this is straight up evil behaviour. whatever lighthearted tone this anon thought they were sending this with, i don't care. it's gross in every sense.
i'm speaking directly to whoever sent this now and frankly, if you follow me, non, unfollow me right fucking now because i don't want this energy anywhere near my blog. it hurts enough that you've targeted my friends with it.
listen up because apparently it bears repeating for the millionth fucking time -
FANFICTION AUTHORS ARE HUMAN BEINGS. they have lives and jobs and school and things they struggle with. maybe they've even spoken publicly about their struggles in the hopes their readers would understand them a bit better because at the end of the day this is a community and they have every right to use this space however they fucking want to.
"don't start a fic you can't finish" - literally shut up. shut up! we are not paid to do this, i will start and not finish whatever the fuck i want.
and holy shit, anon. as if this message wasn't disgusting enough, please let me state plainly something you "desperately" need to hear: no robot can give you what a human writer can. and the fact that you even threatened to just go to AI at this point shows how little you care about storytellers and all they provide for you.
again, i don't care if every word of this message was sent in jest or meant to be read playfully. it's not fucking cute. this shit hurts writers and ya'll need to realize that.
if you take time out of your life to send messages like this, you're a bad person. period. this is not how fanfic works, it's not how the world works. if you can wait two-three years for a movie or a new season of your favourite tv show, you can wait a few months for a fanfic to update. or you can wait forever. we literally owe you nothing.
i'm done sugarcoating it, ya'll. disrespectfully, grow up. grow up! enough is enough.
anyway

The real problem with books-turned-movies isn’t “omg they didn’t include every single word in the book” it’s “omg they completely overlooked the main theme, threw out any significant allegories, took away all the emotional pull, an turned it into a boring action movie with a love triangle in it”

the role of the person in the passenger seat is not only navigator but secretary as well. you have to type up the drivers messages to random ladies on facebook about cbd cream & google whether that billy joel song was the theme song for that show or not
