SYNOPSIS — You always kinda despised Christmas. Every year, your mom would hold Christmas parties and invite her best friend and her family to stay over—and that included her hell-sent annoying son, Ni-ki. But! On your 18th Christmas together, he turns everything around and gives you the best Christmas ever.

24th December 2022, 3:24 pm | yn’s home 💬

YOU HAD A WEIRD HATRED FOR CHRISTMAS. You did really know why—it just sort of happened. Maybe because your mom would host these stupid holiday parties and that her best friend and her son would always sleep over.

It would’ve been all fine if her son—that went by that annoying name ‘Riki’—just ignored you like you asked him to. But oh heavens no, he just had to annoy you every chance he got.

“Ni-ki, just let me sleep in peace!” You yelled as the boy kept twisting and turning around in bed, playing some dumb game where he was trying to get you to talk to him—which meant annoying you to the max.

“No! It’s only 10:00, let’s play!!” Riki replied.

“Ki, stop! Mom! Ni-ki wont stop playing around—why does he have to sleep in my room??” You complained. “He’s the closest to your age, just please get along for once!” Your mom sighed again.

“Riki, go to sleep—it’s already late..” His mom sighed.

The fact that his mom was wearing a facial mask that made her look like a ghost, scared the living Christ out of him, causing him to quickly crawl under the covers next to you.

25th December 2020, 8:07 a.m. | yn’s home 💤

GETTING A HEAVY GIGANTIC TEENAGE BOY’S LIMBS off of you wasn't really your ideal way of waking up. Now that he had hit puberty—you didn’t expect a sudden growth spurt to hit him like a bus. Just two years ago, you were teasing him about him being shorter than you and now, you were on the receiving end of it. He was a bed hog before, hitting and kicking you in his sleep and now with his long limbs, it only hurt ten times more.

“Ni-ki.. cmon get up.” You said impatiently.

He only whined more and pulled you closer to him, his arms wrapping around your shoulders and legs around your waist—your face getting buried in his bare chest. Curse him for sleeping shirtless.

“Why are you getting up so early? Just stay for a while..” he mumbled as he tucked his head down, taking in the scent of your hair.

You were able to get a good view of.. well nothing. Nothing besides the side of his face forming a pout with sleepy breaths. You tried to convince yourself to be annoyed at him, but you couldn’t deny the raging butterflies in your stomach and the warm mess in your cheeks.

“Why are you so warm? Should’ve just used you as a blanket..” He said, still in a tired and child-like innocence.

“You kinda did..” You Mutter under your breath. Sighing in defeat, you just pull the covers over you two and try your best to sleep again. (But that seemed damn near impossible because of the overwhelming butterflies in your stomach.)

“Sola, this is exactly what happens when teenagers have hormones and you should never do this.” Konon said from the door, unbeknownst to the sleeping pair.

“But how about you and-?”

“Ok that’s enough sightseeing for today-”

24th December 2022, 4:25 p.m. | yn’s home ❤️‍🩹

“Surprise.” Riki said with that stupid smirk you just wanted to slap off while leaning against the door frame.

“Ah great, I was just wondering where Santa’s number one troll was..” You say as you look at him through the mirror. You were just fixing your hair when that giant came alone. Although you kind of hated him, you were flabbergasted at his new look. He dyed his hair back to black with a few blonde highlights, giving him a totally new different look. Did he spend the last months at the gym or were his muscles sticking out of his overcoat? And god, his style—his style just elevated to the top. You felt like a donkey next to him.

“Well you’ve gotten..” You took a second to look him up and down before saying, “emo.”

“Not what I was expecting, but I’ll take it..”

“Only from you.” God, did he take rizz classes as well? It definitely seemed like he did after you turned around to fix your hair more as he just watched you with a smirk. You felt his eyes staring holes into you and the pressure was so much, but so good.

Everything was fine, until he started laughing. And not in a cute-adorable-oh-I-wish-I-could-just-love-him-forever laugh, like an annoying and bullyish laugh; as if he was mocking you!

“What?? What’re you laughing at?” You finally asked.

“Nothing just..” He continued to laugh more before saying, “Nice sweater.”

“Really? Is that it?” The sweater you were wearing was the ugly Christmas sweater his mom had bought for you two 4 years back. Realising you hadn’t worn it, your mom forced you to wear it today.

“Surprised it still fits.. mine can only fit on like.. my arm now.”

“Ok haha very funny.. I didn’t expect you to grow 10 inches in a year, ok?” You replied sarcastically.

“Come on.. let’s go out. They're watching “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and I don’t wanna miss the scenes where his heart grows too big!” Riki exclaimed. He still had his cute and dumb childlike innocence that you loved.. wait- loved? I mean.. hated.

“God, you're exactly the same aren’t you? Still a big baby..”

“And you’ve grown to be a bitter butthead.” He claimed.

“A bitter butthead?”

“A bitter butthead!” He smirked.

“Butthead?”

“Butthead!”

“What are you? Eight?” You laughed along with him quickly. Maybe you hated him, but you couldn’t lie.. he was one heck of an adorable boy.

“Hey.. at least give your favourite boy a hug!!” He said and continued to chuckle as he pulled you in for a hug, wrapping his arms around your upper body while you retaliated and didn’t move your arms at all.

“Hey!! No, stop! Ewww.” You laughed even more. (God, these two are making me jealous)

Ni-ki gasped offendedly before saying, “Ew? Ew this!” He said before tickling you until your back was against the doorframe, him towering over you while you both giggled uncontrollably.

“Ok! Ok! Stop! You win!” You didn’t really know what he won, but you said it anyway. “Again..” You say slowly as you look him up in the eyes, finding his face mere centimetres away from yours. The laughter stops as you stare at each other with light smiles. You rest your arms on his shoulders as he finds his arms comfortable on your waist. “Merry Christmas you grinch..” He chuckled again, making you chuckle as well.

“Merry Christmas.. and grinch?” You say as you pull away in sass. “Hell yeah, grinch! The last two years, you’ve absolutely hated Christmas! And I still don’t know why..”

“Well, hate is a strong word.. I don’t- I don’t hate Christmas. I just kinda despise it.”

“Yeah- and why the hell is that? I mean, you can have your opinions but ‘kinda despising’ something without any reason isn’t really fair..”

“Ok fine! The main reason I kinda despise it is because I feel- just.. I kinda feel lonely. And I know that’s totally wrong cause mom always invites you guys to stay.. but I’m talking about relationships and stuff. I’m 18 and the closest thing I’ve ever experienced with love is fake-marrying you when we were 5. Maybe I wanna do cute Christmas activities with a guy I really like on Christmas too.” Niki just listened intently at your rant. “God- This sounds so lame! I’m sorry..” You end as you cover your eyes.

Ni-ki chuckles before removing your arms from eyes and saying, “Don’t worry it’s not lame at all.” And when your eyes meet his, his face is looking down at you with a smirk, but- not the annoying type of smirk—more like an endearing type.

“In fact, I think I know just the solution to your problem..” He says.

“..what? Oh my god what?”

He pauses and bites his bottom lip before saying, “look up..”

You look up.

Oh god.. mistletoe.

You look down again and- is it getting hot or is it just me?

“Mistletoe..” Ni-ki whispers as his face gets closer and your face gets hotter. The atmosphere suddenly turned gut-wrenchingly romantic and the butterflies couldn’t stop erupting from both of your stomachs.

He looks at your lips, then your eyes, then your lips again, then your eyes again—as if he were asking for permission. “May I?”

You slowly nod—and before you finish nodding, he connects your lips together slowly and softly. His lips felt even softer and plumper than they looked, making the kiss even more euphoric. His one hand was on your back while the other held your jaw softly as you kept your arms around his neck. Your lips dance on each other passionately but softly—but due to both of your inexperience, it was sort of messy and uncoordinated, but you wouldn’t have it any other way. Your tongues eventually met and it became even messier due to your guys' inexperience. Right at that moment, Ni-ki found himself accidentally biting your lip too hard.

“Ow!”

“Sorry! Does it hurt?” He immediately asks, bending a little down to check for any wounds.

You chuckle at his worriedness, “Don’t worry, your bite isn’t that hard.”

He chuckled lightly as well. “Kinda got.. distracted.”

“Mhm..”

“God.. you don’t know how long I’ve been dying to do that.” Ni-ki confesses.

“Huh? What??” You ask.

“I’ve had the hugest crush on you since like- forever!”

“Wh- you liked me? How?!” You ask, getting a little louder each second.

“What do you mean ‘How’? You were pretty and smart and cool and.. well the only girl that I spent time with besides my sisters and dance mates. I left you so many hints, you dense grinch!”

“What?! What hints??”

“Ok, the earliest one—what’s my name?” Was he serious?

“Are you serious? Ni-ki!”

“No! It’s not!”

“But.. Everyone else calls you Ni-ki..” You got his name wrong your whole life? Jesus Christ, the embarrassment..

“Yeah because I tell everyone too! My name is Riki, it’s not some endearing nickname my family uses—it’s my damn name.”

“Well how is ‘you telling everyone to call you Ni-ki’ a hint??” You ask, getting grumpier by the second.

He sighs before replying, “..When you mispronounced my name, I kind of found it funny. But I realised your heart would break if you found out you were wrong, so I kind of told everyone to call me Ni-ki so you wouldn’t feel stupid.”

“How long has this been going on..?”

“Since 2010..?”

“When we were 5?! Oh my god-”

You can’t believe this whole time, you had mispronounced his name and weren’t even aware of it. Although you were angry at him for not correcting you, you found it endearing that he told everyone to call him that just so you wouldn’t feel bad.

“But that was just one time! You said ‘many hints’!..”

“The others were stupid teasing things I did when we were younger and certain physical things I did when we got older.. that I only did to you.” He kept shying away at every word, and although you were kind of mad—you found him so unbelievably adorable right now.

You do his signature smirk and cross your arms with a head tilt, “Like what?”, confidence oozing out of those two words.

“Like.. hugging and.. tickling and like hand holding? I don’t know!” He throws his hands up in the air in defeat. “I just tried everything to make you know that I liked you..” and his shy demeanour comes back again..

You snicker before saying, “You really were head over heels, huh?”

“Oh shut up!” He says before leaving the room in embarrassment. And with that, you quickly run after him to make sure this doesn’t slip out of your hands. “Hey! Wait-” you grab his hand and immediately turn it around.

When you’re facing each other—not even a second later, you press a long peck to his lips. And when you pull away, you meet with his flustered expression.

“I like you too dumbass.. now let’s go watch my movie; the grinch.”

You say and drag his love-struck self to the coach to watch the Christmas classic. You may not be the biggest fan of Christmas and ‘kinda despised’ it, but after this—you were hella excited to spend your future holidays just like this; with Ni-ki cuddling the heck out of you and sneaking neck kisses while his sisters watch in disgust. And maybe you said ‘fuck that mistletoe’ before, but now—you thank that mistletoe with your whole fucking heart.

you have to pause because when you look to your left, sunghoon has an elbow on the counter, bent forward to finally be at your height with his face all in in your personal bubble

and on his lips is a big, FAKE innocent pout, brows furrowed and puppy eyes staring straight at you

you know exactly what he’s doing

trying to flirt his way out of his mess as usual

not that it isn’t working of course, especially due to how weird it felt being face to face with your boyfriend without having to practically break your neck

but you still attempt to stand your guard 🙁

“what do you think you’re doing? you think your pretty face will make me forgive you?” you move away nervously, continuing to reorganise the cupboard

that lasted about 2 seconds before the idiot grabs you by your waist and pins you against the kitchen counter

he leans down even further, whispering in your ear, “c’mon.. i said i’m sorry baby, what else should i do to get you to forgive me..?”

you see where this is going and quickly push him away

“okay okay! whatever, buy me some more ramen and i’ll forgive you..” you mutter in defeat

he releases you right away at that, cheering in victory ☹️ sigh

your weak spot for him never fails to resurface at the worst times

even when other people tease you and he just JOINS IN

you’ll be at the dorms laying on the couch with hoon and niki (the absolute WORST combination, god bless you) watching a movie

and conveniently enough it just happened to be ‘tall girl’

you laugh through your tears at that, making sunghoon smile as well
