any tips on editing?
Editing! So exciting!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I have never known a writer without a strong opinion on editing. Some people love it, some hate it. I’m hoping these tips might slowly push you to the latter.
Disclaimer: I don’t do a ton of editing. I spend most of my time trying to get my novel ideas to actually work on paper, and haven’t made it to that point yet. However, I have made it there with a few short stories, and while most of the advice probably transfers over, take this with a grain of salt if it doesn’t work for your particular wip.
Without further ado, here are some of my tips on editing your writing!
First, get rid of the idea that editing = trashing your work. Lots of writers are afraid of editing because it’ll make them realize everything they don’t like about their work. In reality, we edit our work to improve it and help it grow, not to criticize our first draft, which is undoubtedly not going to be the best work we’ve ever produced.
Whenever possible, always do your first bits of editing on paper. There’s definitely a psychology behind scribbling all over your manuscript and how it helps you make more thorough edits. If you don’t have access to a printer, try an annotation app on a computer or tablet.
Before an editing session, make a list of the things you want to accomplish in that session. “Add more physical description”, “enhance the relationship between chars. A and B”, and “break down chapter 4” are all examples of notes I wrote to myself while editing this year. That way, you’ll know what to keep an eye out for while rereading.
Split it up! Especially if you’re writing a longer work, editing can be really intimidating. Go chapter by chapter, or give yourself ten pages at a time. It’ll feel a lot more manageable.
Along with that, take your time. Depending on how thorough you are, this can be a painstaking process. This is why books take so long to come out! It’s supposed to take a long time, so don’t stress about getting it done quickly.
Do multiple sessions. Don’t expect to edit your work once and have it ready for print; you’ll need to go through it quite a bit. This is normal! Some authors have revised their books 50 times. You probably won’t need that many times, but don’t be surprised if this takes longer than it took you to write your first draft.
GET A BETA. This is probably the best advice I can give you. A beta will give you a fresh set of eyes, as well as a person to bounce questions off of (see my suggestions here). Your beta reader can be a writer friend, a non-writer friend (more opinions here), someone you meet in an online writing community… as long as they know what they’re in for (and you’re willing to compensate them for their work!), anyone will do.
Break it up. Editing is exhausting sometimes. Have another writing project going that you can work on in between sessions to prevent burnout.
Retype. This is controversial, and believe me, it is a PAIN IN THE ASS. But it’s also one of the most useful editing techniques I’ve encountered. Pull up your manuscript and a blank document side-by-side, and retype it. You’ll find yourself correcting typos, adding and removing details, and editing without really realizing it. I don’t know if I would recommend this for novels unless you really wanna put yourself through that, but I would absolutely recommend for flash fiction, short stories, and individual scenes and chapters that are really giving you a hard time.
Show some love! To keep your morale up, try editing as if you were editing a friend or classmate’s work. Instead of scribbling out that really frustrating paragraph and writing “THIS SUCKS”, mark it with a “having trouble understanding this part”. Instead of just pointing out everything that’s not working, also note where it is! Highlight your favorite snippets, characters, dialogue, etc. Yeah, you have a lot of work ahead of you, but look at all the great work you’ve already done!
Happy editing! (And please send me more questions about writing!!)

You all mean Hentai?
artists fuck better because we turn sex into art, masterpieces, mattresses become canvases where we can paint our love to someone with bodies.

Is Earth warning us about something? Like to make itself "Green" again, "Ever Green" I think there will be natural disasters for us and nature restoration for Earth? Earth gonna wope our ass.
More like we enabled it, by doing too much "smoke" climate change is the right word.

People are like "I just did something I would normally not do" like you know, how little that narrows it down?
Like, my mind would be thinking of things such as, you rubbing bacon on your armpits and cooking it.. to make it slightly more salty? Enjoying the taste of it, like no judgement though, for people who would do it.
But you just reply with "I parked the Car in another side of the parking lot" or such things. Like I don't know.. if I should be disappointed or relieved., because I was secretly hoping you would do it actually.

So this book basically means "If you try hard enough, you can make cows carnivorous. I am such a huge scientist!!!" type of thing right?
Do NOT Support ‘Adam’ When The Film Comes Out
I’ve talked about this before on this blog but this is the most disgustingly transphobic and lesbophobic narrative I’ve ever come across.
CWs: transphobia, homophobia, lesbophobia, corrective rape, voyeurism
The book Adam by Ariel Schrag is being turned into a movie which has been named as one of the most exciting LGBTQ films of the year. You should know before watching that the book is about a cis boy who pretends to be a trans man in order to persuade lesbians to sleep with him.
Yeah… you read that right.
Book plot summary:
boy spies on his lesbian sister having sex
boy decides to pretend to be a trans man (gross)
i.e. pretends to have a vagina because he thinks lesbians will want him then (he literally wants to fuck lesbians because he watched his lesbian sister have sex wtf)
he does get a lesbian to sleep with him, he straps his penis down using ace bandages and uses a strap on.
all the actual trans dudes we meet identify as lesbians this basically implies that trans men are not real men (lesbians i.e. women)
another time they have sex again only he uses his actual penis but tells her its a strap on. that’s literally rape, she didn’t consent to an actual penis.
he confesses that he’s been lying to her this whole time but she doesn’t break up with him. she even says its okay cause she fantasised about him being “a real boy"
that’s a direct quote. massive transphobia. huge. not to mention this is now the “lesbian is cured by dick trope” which is disgusting and that trope leads to real lesbians and bi women being raped to “fix” them.
he leaves new york, they’re long distance. they get in an argument and he calls her a slut and a whore among other things and then she dumps him
eventually they get back in touch and she has a new cis boyfriend so yep, she’s been “cured” woo she’s actually straight and he helped her realise that yay (massive sarcasm)
It is deeply deeply transphobic. To imply that our identities are just costumes for other people to put on erases who we are as people. More than that, to imply it is done to trick people into sex is a dangerous lie that literally gets us killed.
It is also deeply lesbophobic. To fuel this narrative that lesbians can be “fixed” by having sex with a man leads to real corrective rapes happening.
Here is a review of the book by a trans man. I have yet to find one by a lesbian but will edit this if I do.
This book gives out incredibly harmful notions about trans men and lesbians that are used to hurt them in real life. It’s so entrenched in the narrative that I don’t see how the film can possibly be any better.
I do not say any of this lightly. it’s very very rare for me to call out a piece of fiction or for me to decide that a story is unfixable. But this… there’s no excuse for the bigotry in this.
I’d like to tell people to boycott it but I can’t tell you what to do. So instead I’m going to ask that you share this because it being named as an exciting new LGBTQ film is going to make LGBTQ teens want to see it. And they should know beforehand how hurtful it could be. They should be able to arm themselves with that knowledge.
Don’t make queer kids see this film believing it will represent them only to be exposed to this hatred of their identities.
Please reblog.

Like all the great things just start out as a dream of a comfort seeking child, even if the person is adult by age but still a child by heart.
That's how the ones which I dream started out and that's how your's did too. This will continue for generations to come and I think that's beautiful in itself.

In the dark, there will always be a spot for light. Darkness is caused by absence of light and light is caused by burning up of what matters., that is of warmth provided by the burning of hope which is the main fule for your dreams.

Sometimes people will make you feel your so bad. Like it's your fault for being a disappointment, a ruiner of everything. A bruden on earth and give every slur on this planet earth to your face and expect you to be okay. It's a problem if you smile too much, if you don't smile or just don't show any emotions at all.
It's to confusing really. And when you show them your achievements, they say it isn't anything good beacuse it's not in "this felid" and didn't get much money as "this" or "person".
They expect us to be good to them like they are our saviour. Like water is to a dying plant. But no, they are just plain vines in the water grabbing our ankels drowning us little by little. They are like the audiences in the circus who enjoy the act of slowing a sword. The swords are just thier words and abuse, also lets not forget, we are choking on the water which they call love, they love our tears as sweet taste of first sip of grape wine in their youth.
Some of us hope really, that love wouldn't really a thing and hate was instead because when we did hope, we were only 6 or 7. Not really knowing what love or hate, right or wrong was.
We just knew that, being hated by a stranger hurt less then being hated by a person you know or usually see.
When all is done we usually write a sucide note but don't really write of the abuse because we are gulited from early for not being enough greatful; being in this world, for which we didn't ask. Or to be greatful for having or asking for basic necessity of/in life. When it was their responsibility really. But all is done and now only the thoughts are there nothing else.
When we do survive a sucide attempt we have to face gulit tripping and intensified abuse in the name of pain in their selfish heart.
People say to think about the people we love or of the people in our life and not commit sucide again. When in particular it was of their neglect, words and ignorance did we think the world of endless sleep, a never ending night was much better then the colourful day, the sky filled with winds and a river of fish. Really it's like to ask a starving rat to not eat poisoned food in a trapped urbun steal jungel without even a speak of dust.
But unfortunetly because of the presences of this people qhicb have replaced some important places in a normal persons life. A colourful day is filled with UV rays, the sky is filled with sharp 1000 mph winds and a poisoned river with fish corps.
