Zhongli x fem! Reader
Warnings: angst with no comfort, mentions of character death, reader has guizhong’s power and title
Look who’s back after ages with some heartbreaking angst-
Such a beautiful place, Dihua Marsh was..a place where you had so many wonderful memories. A place that contained the most beautiful and pure glaze lillies which were born from your power, from your happiness. Dihua Marsh, the very place you had met your beloved, your mate for life, your eternal lover Rex Lapis. Oh how you both spent countless nights walking hand in hand amongst fireflies that illuminated the dark sky. You can never once forget how serene the times were when he would lay his head on your lap while you sang for him in your melodious voice, watching the glaze ilies bloom and shimmer due to how pure your love was for the man in your embrace. And of course, the happiest day of your life when he knelt down on one knee, holding a beautiful cor lapis ring that he crafted for you himself, shimmering brighter than any star as he asked you to be his wife, making tears of how spill from your eyes as the only answer to this question was Yes, Yes in every world.
But oh how time plays her cruel game, snatching away everything we hold dear in just the blink of an eye. Now here you were, the ethereal and beloved Goddess of Dust, kneeling down on her knees, being punished for a crime she never committed. Blood trickled down from your chest to the ground, staining the glaze lilies and turning them to dust. The serenity of Dihua Marsh had now turned into horrors of war and blood, and most of all- betrayal.
There you were, the ethereal and beloved Goddess of Dust, kneeling in front of her very lover, her very mate, and her very executioner. Those golden eyes that once shone with pure and never ending love when they gazed into your very own were now filled with anger and hatred, blinded by the lies that he had been fed. His mighty spear that had slain so much evil and defeated so many monsters now pierced through your heart, taking away your life second after second while you struggled to breathe. Not even an ounce of pity was visible on his face, never once did his weapon hesitate or tremble as it tore through your skin, never once did his words falter or stutter as they accused you of betraying the people you loved so dearly, of betraying the man to whom you had pledged your heart and soul, the man whom you loved more than you loved anything else in this world.
Gasping through the excruciating pain, you looked up at him, eyes full of tears when you realised that the man in front of you was indeed Rex Lapis, but he was not your husband, he was not the man who swore to destroy the heavens for you. How pitiful, you thought, that the God Of Contracts had lied, for it didn’t even take the heavens but a few mere mortals to make him betray you and take the very life he swore to always protect.
But even as he tore through your heart and soul, taking your life away from you, you could not hate him. After all, your love was selfless. If taking your life would satiate him and bring him victory, then so be it. If he chose to believe his people over you, then you would not resist, your life was his to take. But as your life now almost slipped away from your grasp, you suddenly felt so afraid, afraid of death, afraid of suddenly ceasing to exist. And even though he was standing here in front of you, his eyes emotionless and devoid of any sort of pity as he watched you bleed and die so slowly, your hand still clad with the golden ring of your union weakly reached out to him..
“My love
will you hold my hand? I- I feel afraid..”
Perhaps you thought that he would show some mercy to you, not as your husband but at least as your god, but to your disbelief and anguish, he only scoffed, pushing the spear deeper within your heart making you cry out in agony and fall completely on the ground. Oh those beautiful golden eyes that once would show so much concern if you would get the slightest injury now did not even blink as you lay there, bleeding and dying because of him.
“Your audacity knows no bounds Goddess of Dust. First, you betray My people, and now you beg for My pity? Unbelievable. You ought to know that those who break the contract, shall face the wrath of the rock. You
shall never be forgiven for your betrayal.”
Even more tears escaped from your eyes at his words, but you looked up at him, your body screaming in agony but your eyes defiant, your once beautiful face now adorned with a sad smile.
“So you still believe that I betrayed..you? Then my beloved Deus Auri, heed my words
”
“You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.”
And as you spoke these words, you breathed your last, welcoming the darkness of the abyss of death, letting it consume your soul. There he stood, watching as the the woman whom he would embrace every night dissipated into dust, the once ethereal Dihua Marsh dying with her. Every single glaze lily wilted and faded away along with its creator. The land turned barren, the glorious green trees withered away. All that remained was Rex Lapis, standing at the very place where he had met his mate, and now killed her.
As every speck of dust now surrounded the God, he fell onto the ground, not understanding why his soul ached in pain, even though he had done as he was supposed to as the God of Geo. Didn’t he do the right thing? Wasn’t..Killing his beloved his duty to his people?
Dihua Marsh..a place that held so many memories for Zhongli, memories that tormented every fibre of his being as he too eroded away, piece by piece with time. How long had it been? 2000 years
since the very moment he committed the biggest sin of all; taking the life of his mate, refusing to believe her and letting those foolish mortals achieve their goal. Zhongli fell to the ground on his knees, just like how you had, tears escaping his eyes. How could he be so cruel? How could he not believe the woman who had been with him all his life? How could he break the pledge he had made with his very soul, and kill her instead of protecting her?
He still remembers her cries of pain, her melodious voice that once sang for him begging him to stop and just hear her out. But he did not do that; blinded by anger and betrayal, he committed the most heinous crime. He had been the one to break their contract, not her. Those who break the contract, shall face the wrath of the rock. These had been the words that he spoke ever so eloquently that day, and now look at the irony, here he was, paying the price. His eternal punishment was to learn the truth, to learn of just how wrong he had been, and how his mistake can never be fixed. His punishment was to spend every single day of his long and endless life alone and in misery, watching every night in his nightmares how he killed you with his own hands.
There zhongli sat, now having given away his godhood and pretending to live as a mortal, amongst the barren lands of Dihua Marsh where he had so many cherished memories, but all of them were overshadowed by his greatest mistake.
As he sat there kneeling on the ground, crying in agony, he heard that melodious voice once more, the voice that lived forever in his heart. “Was it worth it, Rex Lapis?” He looked up in horror, watching as no one was around. But he knew he heard your voice, he was sure of it. “What..my love..”
He heard your voice scoff cruelly, just as he had all those millennia ago. “Your love? No Morax, I am not your love. I am gone, gone for good. What you hear now is the last piece of my consciousness that has remained trapped in this place, waiting for the day you would find the truth and come back here.”
“No please..forgive me my heart..I should have believed you..I should have never hurt you..Please, I am so sorry.” He spoke, head lowered in remorse as he himself realised how pathetic he sounded.
“Your apology is meaningless to me. Oh Morax..I loved you so dearly, even now, I cannot bring myself to hate you. But now, you must face your punishment. And perhaps, one day when you soul erodes into nothingness, you will get the chance to see me again. Farewell Morax, I will pray that you never see me again.”
And just like that, you were gone. But this time, not even your consciousness remained. And all Zhongli could do was sit there, broken and eroding, living the fate he had now carved out for himself.

I really love your legend of the red string of fate oneshots ^_^
Can you do Xingqiu??
Please and thank you :)
Yes of course! Thank you so much for your support and suggestion!đŸ«¶ I’m sorry it took so long, I had a little writer’s block😭
Let us begin a new chapter of our lives, Hand in Hand..
Tumblr media
Xingqiu x fem!reader
Based on the Legend of The Red String of Fate, slight angst with lots of comfort, Xingqiu is aged up to be an adult!
I hope you enjoy reading!
“Finally, I’ve found you again.”
You flinched at the familiar voice, getting shivers as you watched the red string once again appear, wrapped around your pinky finger. How had he found you again? How were you going to face him again? Hesitantly you stood up, turning around to look into those gentle golden eyes of his, bowing in respect. “My liege, what..brings you here..?”
Xingqiu chuckles softly, walking closer to you as he gently holds your chin, lifting your head up. “My heart and its desire for you of course.” You felt those familiar yet painful butterflies all over again, letting out a shaky breath. As much as every fibre of being begged you to stop, you took a step back, looking away. “My liege..this..is wrong. I can’t- we..we can’t.” Xingqiu frowns at your words, knowing that you wanted to be with him just as much as he did, only he did not care about social status like you. “Why Y/N? When the heavens themselves have fated us to be together, then why do you ignore the calling of your heart?”
Tears well up in your eyes as you look at him, the sheer pain in your eyes making his soul ache in agony. “My liege; you and I both know the reason. You are the esteemed descendant of the Guhua clan, the second heir to the Feiyun Commerce Guild. And I? I am just a poor artist, I am but a speck of dust in the glory of your existence. You deserve someone far better than I.”
He sighs at your words, approaching you again and gently cups your cheeks, wiping the pearl like tears in your eyes. “There is no one better than you for me. Status, money..such trivial matters do not concern me. My heart; my soul and my fate itself calls out your name, and I do not wish to forsake our future due to such meaningless materialistic beliefs. Your heart is pure, your eyes shine like the moonlight that guides lost souls in the darkest of nights. Leave be my social standing and look at me as just Xingqiu. Tell me, do you still wish to reject this bond?”
You unknowingly leaned into his gentle touch, trying so hard to fight the urge to give in already, to forget all the worries of your mind. But it was easier said than done, for in this world, only love is not enough to win every battle. “My liege, people would talk, spread vicious rumours. It would be catastrophic for the guild, for your family..” He smiles at you tenderly, holding your left hand in his, where the red string glimmered under the sunlight. “Who would dare to deny the bond that the ancient god of Liyue himself bestowed upon us? You’re afraid of possibilities that might never cross us. And do you really think that we mere mortals have the power to defy the divinity of this string that connects our souls together? No matter how much you try to deny this bond, to avoid me and hide from me, fate will always bring us together.”
“My liege, what do you mean by that?” He chuckles and holds your hand, leading you to sit down on the grass beside him. “Let me tell you a story from thousands of years ago; when the god Yue Lao first created the Red String of fate and what happened to those who tried to deny this bond.” You nodded at his words, listening silently.
Xingqiu looks into the distance, the gentle breeze blowing through his long blue locks. “Long ago, once there was an ambitious young man who talked to Yue Lao and insisted on asking him about who will he marry, thinking that he'll meet himself a rich girl. Yue Lao pointed at a poor-looking little girl who's taking a stroll with an old blind woman in a marketplace, showing him a red thread between the two, and tells the man that he'll marry her someday. Displeased, the man tells a servant to kill the two and then leave the village.”
Your eyes widened hearing the story, waiting for xingqiu to continue while wondering how he knows about such ancient folklore.
“Years later the man, now a promising public officer, marries a beautiful woman from a rich family who is very much the perfect wife for him save for two details: she has a limp and covers her forehead with a silk patch for undisclosed reasons. He asks his wife why and she begins crying, telling him that she is the niece of the family leaders rather than their daughter: her parents died when she was young and she initially lived with her old blind nanny, but one day a madman stabbed her caretaker to death in a local marketplace and wounded her, leaving her scarred and almost crippled. The man realizes that Yue Lao was right, tearfully confessing that he ordered the attack and asks his wife for forgiveness, which she gives to him.”
You look away from him, thinking about the story he just told you. In Teyvat, fate is one thing that cannot be avoided or altered. Since the day you and xingqiu first locked eyes and the red string appeared, you had been avoiding him, trying to convince your heart that he was a star while you, were nothing but a speck of dust. But every time you tried to avoid him, he would find you again. Destiny always brought the two of you closer, regardless of how far you tried to keep him. “I..I understand my liege
”
He looks at you with a fond smile, cupping your cheek delicately. “Please, just call me xingqiu. So you see, regardless of the world around us, I am bound to you, the promise between our souls is everlasting. You need not worry about your wealth, your reputation or even mine. Let our love win.”
You looked up into his warm eyes that shone ever so brightly like the son, gathering your thoughts together. Placing your hand on his, you uttered words so delicate yet firm as if they were woven by silk itself, stirring Xingqiu’s heart.
“But I, being poor, have only my dreams;‹I have spread my dreams under your feet;‹Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.”
He smiles at you reassuringly, holding your hands “Your dreams are mine, your wishes are my honour. Let us forget about everything else and soar through the skies together, with our love being our guiding wind.” Each word he spoke reassured your soul, calming the raging storm in your mind. You closed your eyes momentarily, leaning into his warm touch. Then, you searched for one final answer in his eyes. “And what if I cannot love you enough?”
A soft chuckle left his lips as he shakes his head, intertwining your fingers together. “If equal affection cannot be, let the more loving be me. Clasp me close in your warm young arms, while the pale stars shine above, and we’ll live our whole young lives away in the joys of a living love.”
A tear escaped from your eyes, and you let every other lingering thought disappear, hiding yourself in the comfort of his warm embrace. “Then I promise to never let go of you. From this moment forth, I am yours.” A victorious smile lights up his face as he hugs you so tight, kissing your forehead tenderly.
“And I, am forever yours. Let us begin a new chapter of our lives, hand in hand.”

Wriothesley x fem!reader
Fluff, based on the Legend of the Red String of Fate, Will contain spoilers from the chenyu vale world quest!
I hope you all enjoy reading!
“Tea bags, check..gift, check, tea leaves- check! Okay I’m ready to head off.” You muttered to yourself, cross checking your luggage before you depart from Chenyu Vale to Fontaine for a very important meeting. With whom you might be wondering? Well, it was none other than the Duke of the Fortress of Meropide himself.
Chenyu vale is known widely for its famous and aromatic Adeptea, and has always exported copious amounts of tea to Fontaine. However for the past 2 years, the tea’s quality started to decline, and so did the exports. It had come to your attention that out of all the Fontainians, the Duke of Meropide was particularly displeased about this situation, going so far as to penning a kind yet stern letter to the head of the village, asking about what has been happening to their tea. It was safe to say that this letter had raised quite the panic, for the fortress was the major buyer of the Adeptea and losing such a buyer was something your small yet humble village could not afford. What’s worse was that none of the people were able to understand what was going wrong with the tea, except of course for you and Grandpa Lu.
You were a prominent figure in Chenyu vale, known for your artistic pottery and fine brewing skills. You would handpick the slots of tea that was being sent to Fontaine yourself, knowing that they needed the best quality tea. Not only that, but you were also skilled in the Adepti art of Adeptus Fujin herself, which made you understand that the harmony of nature had been disrupted, leading to the tea quality’s decline.
Thankfully for all of you; the renowned traveler had arrived with their companion and with your aid and Fujin’s power, the problem had been resolved. The only problem that now remained, was the displeased Duke of Meropide. So you took it upon yourself to travel to Fontaine and offer an explanation and apology, for no one else understood the true depth of the situation. As compensation, you made him the most beautiful tea set, infusing in it a little bit of your power which would allow the tea to remain fragrant and hot for extended hours. You truly did hope that this would placate the man.
After bidding farewell to your mother, you got onto the boat that would take you to the renowned and magnificent nation of justice. Fontaine truly seemed magnificent, with its technological advances and strict judicial system. You had always desired to visit the city, although not in such a diplomatic way. No matter, you would make sure to get a tour of the city later. Upon hearing of your visit, the duke had been kind enough to write to you personally, informing you of basic but important laws that you must not break if you didn’t wish to extend your stay in the fortress from a few hours to a few days. The letter was
extremely lengthy, given the amount of ridiculous and extensive laws the land held. Archons, how did the people even remember them all? Well no matter, it’s not like you were going to stay there for long
.right?
As you arrived at the Lumidouce harbour, you noticed two officials waiting for you, probably to guide you to the fortress. You bowed at them politely, following their lead while admiring the beautiful scenery of Fontaine.
“Welcome to the Nation of Justice, Ms. Y/N. We have been tasked by Monsieur Neuvillette to guide you to the fortress of Meropide through the Opera Epiclese. Please, follow us.”
Thanking them you boarded yet another boat, and then an aquabus where you met a cute little creature. Ah, that must be the melusines that the duke had mentioned in his letter. The melusine was so sweet, giving you a detailed explanation about the city, even answering your curious question. In the end, you quickly rummaged through your bag, giving her a little Qingxin flower as a thank you for her service. The smile that adorned her little face truly made your day better.
Eventually you headed to the back of the grand Opera Epiclese, where you saw a dignified tall man with a black fur coat hanging on his shoulder standing with his back faced to you. His aura seemed intimidating to you, however you kept your composure. “Duke, we have brought your guest.”
“Ah, you have my profound gratitude. You both may leave, I shall escort my guest from here.”
“Yes sir.”
At that moment, he turned around to face you, and you felt your entire world stopping. Your jade green eyes met with his ashy blue ones, and you swore you felt a spark through your entire body. A beautiful and delicate Res String tied to your little finger made its way to tie itself around his thumb, making you freeze in place. You had found your fated Soulmate. He was a godly man, perfect from head to toe. You had never seen a man as handsome as him, his every feature truly was perfect. You didn’t fail to notice the scars on his face and neck, making you realise he truly had been through a lot in his lifetime.
Meanwhile, Wriothesley was utterly stunned, yet confused. In front of him stood perhaps the most beautiful maiden he had ever seen, her delicate figure adorned with a pastel green outfit and jade jewellery, matching the colour of her eyes. A dendro vision was tied to your outfit while your long hair flowed freely down your shoulders. He was in awe of your beauty, it was as if some kind of force was pulling him in to you. However he was baffled to see a delicate red string connect the two out of you, seemingly appearing out of nowhere. Your equally shocked look did not escape his watchful eyes. What in Teyvat was going on? He cleared his throat, talking rather softly. “Uhm, Miss Y/N, how about we..head back to my office to talk?”
You snapped out of your thoughts, nodding immediately as you felt your cheeks blushing like anything. “Yes, yes of course Duke..”
He let out a raspy chuckle, shaking his head. “No need to be so formal, you can just call me Wriothesley.” Oh archons, why was everything about him so attractive?! You looked down with a shy smile, nodding. “Understood. Please, lead the way..”
He smiles slightly, enjoying your flustered state for some reason. As much as he desired to ask you about this mysterious red string, he chose to wait. Such important and private discussions were better suited for his office, where he could guarantee no one would eavesdrop. He led you down the elevator and through the boat to the Fortress, noticing how observant you were about every little detail. Hm..that would explain the Dendro vision. “Welcome to the Fortress of Meropide. I’m sure you must have heard a thing or two about this place, but I can assure you it’s not as awful as it sounds. Here in the fortress every exile and every prisoner is given a chance to start life anew, to work hard and earn their freedom and dignity back. If I dare say so myself, the fortress is essentially a place of rediscovery and rebirth. The law treats everyone fairly, and the fortress is no different.”
You listened to him in awe, admiring the way he spoke like a dignified gentleman. Although he looked intimidating and cold, his demeanour was quite relaxed and welcoming. “That is quite admirable, to give a chance to the offenders to start life anew.” He nodded at your words as he led you to his office. “Of course, that is not to say that criminals do not get their punishment. No one leads a cushiony life in here, and those who have broken the law and hurt others get treated the same way. The rest who actually wish to turn over to a new leaf are given the chance to do so. Many prisoners choose to stay here even after their sentence has concluded.”
That surely came as a shock to you. As
magnificent as the fortress was, it was devoid of sunlight and nature, it felt suffocating to you. Why would people live here willingly? Noticing your silence and the unasked question in the air, Wriothesley laughed a little. “I’m sure you must be wondering why they would choose to do that. Well Fontaine is a nation much different than the rest. Here, status, reputation and wealth matter a lot. Life up at the surface is full of pretensions and dramatic situations. Here in the fortress; everyone is equal, everyone is straightforward. They start with nothing, and through sheer hard work, earn their daily necessities. Perhaps that equality is what attracts people to stay here rather than going up to the surface and continue to play the part in the endless opera that Fontaine is.”
Only you knew how much you were admiring him at this point. Not only was he fair and just, he was also respectable and empathetic, treating humans as they were supposed to be treated rather than declaring them as unruly criminals. “I really admire the way you manage this place Wriothesley..to be able to view offenders as something more than their offence is an admirable quality. No wonder you are the Duke.” As much as he wished he could deny it, Wriothesley felt his heart skip a beat at your words. “You flatter me Y/N. here, this is my office. Let us go upstairs. Please, make yourself comfortable.”
“Thank you. Ah before I forget, I brought you a small present to compensate for all the inconveniences you have had to face due to the small crisis in Chenyu vale.” Taking out a box, you opened it to reveal the most beautifully embroidered tea set that Wriothesley had ever seen. “This is a tea set I crafted myself, and I have infused it with a little bit of adeptal power. That will allow the tea to stay fragrant and warm for hours on end. I imagine that your work must be arduous and time consuming. So, you need not brew a hot cup of tea every now and then. I hope it is to your liking..”
Looking up, you felt your heart flutter at the way Wriothesley was smiling, his eyes shimmering as he admired the tea set. “This is simply divine, I cannot thank you enough for your hard work. There was no need for a present Y/N..but thank you so much, I will gratefully accept it.” Smiling happily, you stood up, getting the tea leaves out. “Well if you’ll allow me; I can brew us some tea right now. I do believe we have a lot of things to discuss Wriothesley..” He smiled and nodded, accompanying you as he watched you brew the tea. The aroma of fresh tea filled his office, instantly relaxing him. A while later you both sat down, drinking tea. “This is exquisite tea, you are exceptional at brewing.” You blushed at the praise, shaking your head. “Thank you..well then, I believe it is time I addressed something very important..” You raised your left hand, bringing to his notice the red string that connected the two of you. “Yes please go ahead, I am quite curious about this string.”
You took a deep breath to prepare yourself for the worst possible outcome after you explained everything to him. “This is the red string of fate..Inazuma and Liyue have a..tradition where the gods have destined two people together as
Soulmates. The red string appears when two soulmates lock eyes with one another, and it signifies the union of two fated lovers
The red string may stretch endlessly, but it can never be snapped or broken. Of course
some people can
reject this bond, but that won’t erase the existence of this string..”
Wriothesley listened to your words carefully, also noticing the way you held your teacup close, caressing the edges anxiously. You weren’t looking into his eyes, and he knew that you were afraid that he would reject this bond. Truth to be told, as strange as this entire situation was, he felt so comfortable in your presence, so soothed and happy that it felt like home. He knew he was attracted to you, and wanted to be with you. Whether it was the string acting or his heart, he did not know and nor did he care. He gently held your hand in his, making your jade green eyes look at him with an expression so hopeful that it melted his ice cold heart.
“I do not wish to reject this bond. Even though I’ve only met you today; your presence has..comforted me. The fortress has always been cold and stuffy but your presence here feels like a breath of fresh air
I know that I feel connected to you. And if the gods themselves have fated us to be together then who am I to overrule their judgement?”
You smiled ever so happily, not being able to hold back as you hugged him, resting your head against his chest. Meanwhile wriothesley, though tense at first, melted into your embrace, wrapping his arms around you gently. His bigger frame completely engulfed you, as if hiding and protecting you from all evil. He was your home, you knew it. “If you are not rejecting this bold, then I pledge you my devotion and loyalty until my last breath. From now on, I am your soulmate..” you spoke, looking up into his beautiful eyes. He chuckled at your words. Gently cradling your face, smiling at the way you leaned into his touch. He knew you both would have to work a few things out, but everything would turn out to be just fine. He then held your left hand, tenderly kissing the place where the red string was tied.
“Soulmates huh? I like the sound of that. Then from this day forth, I am yours, just like you are mine.”

A string that can no longer connect..
Tumblr media
Xiao x fem!reader
Warnings: angst, hurt with no comfort, character death
A lot of you wanted me to start writing angst, so here it is! I hate hurting Xiao even more-
Perhaps you should have heeded to their warnings. Perhaps, had you just stayed in Liyue harbour, your unending misery could have been avoided. Perhaps, had you not been so foolishly in love with someone so out of your reach, your heart wouldn’t be bleeding right now. Perhaps
.had fate not been so cruel to you, your tears would have dried up by now.
You felt like a body without a soul, like a mind without a purpose, your once beating heart had become a hollow pit through which harsh echoes of that one voice kept ringing unstoppably. It felt as if your heavy heart would soon make you sink to the ground, let the earth swallow you whole until not even one fragment remained. In the endless sea of colours, you were the black paint now, unhappy and dull, standing out the most although all you wished to do was hide and wallow in your misery.
You never knew it was possible to feel pain of this magnitude. Never once did you think that the heavens above would snatch your happiness away like this. You felt deceived, betrayed and beyond hurt. The Red String Of Fate, just thinking about it made you scoff. What a joke, there was no such thing as love in your life. Every step you took farther away from Wangshu Inn intensified the burning sensation in your ring finger, where the red string appeared. It kept on stretching away and away, the burning feeling like the string screaming at you to stop walking away, to just run back and embrace the one to whom you were tied. But you knew you could not do that.
You did not have the strength nor the courage to go back to the man who had caused your pain. You couldn’t face him again after you gifted him his heart, only for him to return it to you completely shattered and bleeding. Archons, it hurts so much, please make it stop..
You didn’t know where your feet were leading you, but after what felt like hours you fell to the ground, screaming in agony as that one voice refused to leave your mind, his harsh words echoing again and again that made your head spin. Your tears stained the ground, your soul slowly ripping itself apart piece by piece as you remembered what had transpired just moments ago.
Dangerous golden eyes pierced into yours, looking at you with a gaze so cold that you felt your heart freezing right there. “Soulmates? Tsk, we adepti have no need nor the time for such ridiculous things. Leave mortal, and never come back.” You felt tears well up in your eyes, not being able to believe this. You thought that he would feel happy, at least accept you but no, he simply rejected you, as if you were a nuisance for him. “But xiao..look, we are bound together by fate..how can i just be without you?”
He let out a cruel scoff, folding his arms and looking away. “That is a matter that does not concern me, but only you. I don’t want this fated bond, I reject it.” And that’s it, the tears dropped down one after the other, the ache in your heart haunting your being. “Then..why did you protect me so many times..why did you appear before me..”
“I am an adeptus, and it is my sworn duty to protect Liyue and its people. I am bound by a contract upon Rex Lapis’ orders. Do not think that this fact, by any means, makes you special. Mortals do not belong with adepti, nor do adepti need any companionship. Do not disturb me any further, Leave.”
Each word he spoke caused your soul to crack little by little, your heart completely broken while every fibre of your being ached. It was cruel, so cruel for him to do this to you. Yet you mustered the courage to look him in the eye, letting him break you once more. “So
you do not feel anything for me?”
“No, I don’t. Return to Liyue harbour and never come back here.” And just like that, he disappeared from your sight, leaving you alone and broken.
How easy it was for him, a mighty adeptus to scoff at a mere mortal like you, abandoning you as if it was nothing new for him. But who would tell him that he was your whole world? He was your hope, your soulmate, your love. How were you supposed to just be okay like this? How were you supposed to recover when you had lost yourself bit by bit with every step you took away from him until there was nothing left for you to lose? What a fool you were, thinking that the Conquerer of Demons would return your feelings.
Unbeknownst to you, Xiao had watched you leave from the rooftop of Wangshu inn, and every fibre of his being begged him to make you stop, to beg for your forgiveness and let you stay by his side. Yet he fought all those urges, simply watching your figure grow smaller and smaller, until you completely disappeared from his sight. Only he knew how much pain he was in right now, how the words he had so cruelly spat to you were now stabbing at his conscience, ready to kill him. But no matter how much he wanted, no needed you by his side, he could not be selfish.
You were the epitome of pureness and warmth in his eyes, while he was the ancient being with blood of countless gods and monsters on his hands, his soul tainted by karma. If you stayed with him, you would get tainted too, you would be in unimaginable pain too. Your mortal body wasn’t made to handle this amount of torture. Besides, he was so close to losing himself to his karma, his fear was that he would turn into the monsters he had sworn to purge. He could end up hurting, or even killing you in his madness. He had watched his beloved brothers and sisters go mad because of the karmic debt they carried, even turning against each other. Then how, pray tell, was he supposed to make you stay when he was aware of the danger he posed to your very existence?
That is why he let you go, speaking those harsh untruths so that hopefully you’d forget him one day and live a better life. He did not deserve love and kindness, he was a beast, a cruel and heartless monster whose only duty was to purge all evil until one day, his karmic debt would inevitably take his life. How was he supposed to condemn you to a fate so cruel? Taking a deep breath, he wiped off the lone tear that fell from his eye, reminding himself that all he had done was for your sake, to protect you.
But he would soon realise that he had done quite the opposite..
Only a day had passed by when he was passing through Dihua Marsh after slaughtering monsters. He then picked up the strong stench of blood- human blood. Frowning, he rushed towards the sight, only for his golden eyes to widen in horror, his mighty spear falling on the ground while he stood there, motionless. There lay your body, severely wounded and bleeding uncontrollably, painting the pure glaze lilies around you, instantly causing them to wither away. How..how was this possible..
He approached your unconscious form, cupping your cheek softly, which to his pure agony had gone ice cold. You were no longer breathing, and he knew that he had lost you forever. Tears welled up in his eyes as he kneeled on the ground, picking up your lifeless form close to his chest. A shriek of pure agony and devastation left him, his entire being churning in excruciating pain. It was all his fault, he was the reason why you were now dead. Not only had he broken your heart, but he had also managed to steal your chance of living a perfect life.
He begged, ached for you to come back, but it was of no use. He had lost you for good, only being left with enormous amounts of guilt and grief that would torture his soul eternally. He looked down at your limp hand, noticing the red string that bound you to one another. Only, it began fading away, and xiao cried in pain as it disappeared all together, signalling that he had lost his soulmate. Oh how cruel fate was to him, stealing away every single person that gave him happiness. First his family, and now his love.
His soul that once wished to be free of all binds, now begged fate to grant it one more chance to be bound to yours by that very red string, but what followed its plea was a deathly, deafening silence..for a string that gets snapped once, can no longer connect again.

Happy New Year, Mrs. Neuvillette!
Tumblr media
Lots of fluff, new year special fic!
Neuvillette x fem! Reader
“My love, you look simply divine tonight..” you heard your boyfriend’s deep and soothing voice say as you turned around, feeling your heart skip a beat seeing him in an elegant suit, his long hair flowing freely. You blushed and approached him, fixing his tie and kissing his cheek. “Thank you Neuvi, and trust me, you look so heartbreakingly handsome..” Your sweet dragon tilted his head in slight confusion, not understanding your words of endearment correctly. “Heartbreakingly? Why my dear, I never wish to do that to you..” Your sweet laughter echoed through the room as you felt your heart melt, making you kiss his cheeks again. “Aawww don’t worry Neuvi; it’s just an expression! I know you’d never break my heart!”
He smiles in relief, holding your hand and kissing your palm. It was a habit he had developed ever since you started dating. “That puts my heart at ease Mon Amour. Now then, shall we get going? It is 11:30 pm.” You nodded excitedly, holding onto his arm which he held out for you. Archons, he was such a gentleman. As you both stepped out of the Palais Mermonia, your eyes shone brightly as you viewed the glittering city of Fontaine, everyone excitedly waiting for another new year. Festive lights adorned the city as people were out and about, mingling with friends and family. You and Neuvillette were headed to the Opera Epiclese, where he had stated he wished to show you a surprise. You thought that he must have prepared something for new year and nothing more, but soon you’d find out that you were very wrong. Tonight was going to change your life.
You both boarded the aquabus and chatted merrily with the melusine in charge of the trip. The best part about the aquabus in your opinion was the spectacular view of Fontaine it provided, the bright moonlight illuminating on the surface of the oceans as the atmosphere was simply stunning. Fontaine was so different from your home, that is Liyue, yet you had no problem whatsoever in adjusting thanks to the brilliant man seated beside you, your hand safely clasped in his. You were one of the many adepti in Liyue, who had fought alongside Rex Lapis in the archon war. However as time went by, the Liyue you knew and loved also changed as all the adepti departed to Juyeun karst, knowing their protection wasn’t needed. When the news of Rex Lapis’ passing spread, you knew that your millennia long contract with him had come to an end, and although you still held deep love for Liyue, you were no longer bound to stay there and protect the citizens. With Rex Lapis, blessing you departed from Liyue to fulfil your desire of exploring Teyvat, and soon reached Fontaine.
Who knew that you would end up meeting your soulmate and stay here forever? Meeting Neuvillette was purely coincidental, for he had first laid eyes on you when you were tending to the wound of an injured melusine, using your healing powers to ease her pain. When he saw you he instantly knew you weren’t from Fontaine, and he was completely awestruck by your beauty and kindness. And then, when you turned around to lock eyes with him, your entire world changed as a delicate red string appeared, wrapping around your ring finger and his, connecting not just your bodies, but also your souls together. Neuvillette on the other hand, instantly felt his draconic instincts telling him that he had found his mate, and the magical red string that he saw further convinced him of the same, although he did not completely understand what it was. That was the day you both pledged to love one another endlessly, and you chose to settle down in Fontaine, for you really did not have anyone else to go back to in Liyue. 4 years had passed by already, and your bond with Neuvillette had only grown stronger. You both were devoted to one another, your love deeper than any oceans in Fontaine. Sure it was a little tricky to get used to living in a city as developed as Fontaine, but Neuvillette’s unwavering support helped you through it all.
“Dearest, are you alright?” Your beloved’s voice snapped you out of your memory lane, as you noticed the worried expression on his face. “Oh? Oh yes of course love, forgive me, I was just reminiscing about our past.” He lets out a soft chuckle, placing a chaste kiss on your forehead. “Ah I see, is it perhaps you miss your home? If you wish, you can go visit Liyue any time you want dearest.” You shook your head, resting it on his shoulder. “No neuvi, that’s not the reason, I’m quite alright. Besides, I have no one to visit in Liyue really..we adepti are not that close with one another anymore..”
Sensing your slight sadness, neuvillette gently squeezes your hand, holding you close. He knew of your past, and he knew that you missed the way adepti used to be close with one another before the archon war. Now times had changed, and with it so had the bonds you made. “Know that my love for you is unchanging and eternal Mon Amour. I am with you, always.” You looked up at him with those beautiful eyes of yours, your delicate features being adorned with that pretty smile of yours his heart went crazy over. “I know Neuvi, which is why I wish to stay here with you. You make me the happiest, and as long as I have your support and love, I don’t need anyone else!”
He chuckles sweetly, hugging you close to him, thinking to himself- Dont you worry mon amour, I’m going to make you so happy tonight. Eventually you both got off the aquabus, holding hands as you walked down the pathway towards the Opera Epiclese. “The city looks so beautiful tonight Neuvi, we can sense the joy in the atmosphere! It’s really so lively!” You said, admiring the way people were so cheerful and happy. “Believe me my dearest, the city’s beauty is nothing compared to yours..” and there we go, he managed to make you blush yet again! Giggling shyly, you shook your head, making him chuckle too. Eventually you two reached the fountain of Lucine and Neuvillette left your hand, walking forward. With a snap of his fingers, the water in the fountain started glowing beautifully, the plants and flowers around you both gleaming and shining due to the existing water droplets on them. It looked absolutely magical, making you feel like you were in an enchanted fairy tale.
“Oh my..neuvi this is
oh wow..” you really had no words to describe it, the gleaming water droplets seeming like shining fairy lights. He smiles at you, going to you slowly while taking a deep breath to compose his nervous self. This was it, the biggest step in your relationship was here. “Mon amour, I have something to say..” You looked at him with a big smile, cupping his cheek softly “go ahead Neuvi, tell me, I’m listening..” Well, here goes nothing.
“Mon amour..the moment our eyes first locked, I knew you were the only one my heart and soul was bound to. You’ve taught me love, you’ve given me the honour of being with you and experiencing what true happiness feels like. Without you, I am nothing. You fill me with so much joy, so much hope and so much love..before you entered my life, I was alone and merely just
existing. But with you I’ve realised what living life to the fullest feels like..You are simply magnificent, one of a kind. My love for you is everlasting and ever growing..I wish to spend my entire life with you, just like this, holding your hand in mine. So
” getting down on one knee, he opened a beautiful engraved box. On a velvet pillow lay a beautiful ring, with a big diamond in between, surrounded by two shining cor lapis stones. “Will you let me have the honour of calling you my wife? Will you marry me and become Mrs. Neuvillette?”
You were a crying mess by now. Words could never describe how euphoric your felt right now. It was a dream come true; there was no other way to describe it. You nodded vigorously through your tears, falling into his arms giving him perhaps the tightest hug you had ever given. “YES! Yes Neuvi, I’d love to be your wife!!” At that very moment, the clock struck midnight as fireworks erupted all over the night sky. Neuvillette smiled ever so happily, embracing you close to him. He held your left hand, gently slipping the beautiful ring onto your ring finger, right where the red string had shown itself 4 years ago.
“I love you Mon Amour, I cannot wait to marry you.” You smiled through your tears, admiring him so much. He could sense your joy, and it was contagious for he himself was beyond ecstatic. “Oh Neuvi
I love you so much too, you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me..” as you both stood back up, he held you close, leaning his forehead against yours. “Happy New Year my beloved.” You giggled softly, wrapping your arms around his neck, your ring shining brighter than the stars. “Happy new year Neuvillette..”
And once again, you both locked eyes, lilac meeting gold. The two of you were so happy, that nothing else mattered in this moment. Without wasting any more time, he leaned in, sealing the new year with a sweet kiss filled with pure love. This was perhaps the best way to start the new year, one you knew would be the best year of your lives. He was your home, your everything. And now, you were his fiancée. Happy new year, Mrs. Neuvillette!
