I made this over a year and a half ago. I haven’t drawn in months and I’m trying to get back into it but everything is coming out shitty. Work was rough this weekend. My back hurts.

I started this painting on April 9th (2k23). I Have only ever worked on it on like, threee?? separate occasions since. Am I ever going to finish it? Probably not. Am I posting it anyways? Yes. Do I hate the way it looks? Also yes. But here you go. Pls give advice thx💕.

The only other finished sketches in my diary literally all the way back from September (2022) till now. Timmy looks really wonky ngl. Third one is without a grid which I was really proud of at the time bc it has more likeness to the reference than most of the ones I used a grid for. I’m having a lot of trouble foreshortening lips so they don’t look so 2d. Tbh I have trouble conveying depth on any feature. April 7th, 2023

My fist gouache painting and the two sketches that lead to it. Tbh I’m not a fan of the end result, it’s not what I wanted it to look like and I started off with too much detail in the skin texture for such a two dimensional sketch. Ended up trying to cartoon it with my new India ink pen. I’m actually going to post more of the gouache progression as I make stuff. April 7, 2023

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller.

This is some fan art I made a month or so ago, it’s not necessarily a journal entry, just something fun. The grid method is magic. Yes lol, I know Achilles’s hair is longer in the books but let’s just pretend that he cut bangs; does anyone want to guess who I used as his reference?

April 21st, 2021 (technically May 9th) Day seven. I hate this page so much, oh my god. The paint parts are from April 2nd and I did it while I was on face time with my friend. The bottom left portrait was so wrong proportionally because I ran out of space on the paper. You can tell the areas that I made her hair too big and tried to block it out with black. Emily suggested that I paint her cat as a blobby cat like my last page and we made him into a king. I was mad that the cactus smudged :/. The top left is a self portrait, it’s the only thing I can tolerate on this page and it doesn’t even look like me, but it’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to realism. Looking at this blog it looks like my work is getting worse it’s kinda funny.

April 1 2021, day six. This one is super messy. I want to make sure that I’m not wasting any paper so I still painted on the opposite side of the paper. Watercolor bleeds a lot more than the markers do which is why it is so messy. The dress was a cover up for a failed portrait. I painted three smugly cats like a toddler just to take some of the pressure off of it. I re-drew the top right one and I like it better than last time. My professors decided to switch around the dynamic for the program from teaching us what we need to know to weeding us out, which is probably why I don’t feel so great this week. I was watching the movie Cherry while I painted, which might explain all of the dark colors.

March 23 2021, Day five. I actually used watercolor paints on this watercolor paper! It was my first time in a while using watercolor so you can definitely see the areas where the paper got a little too weak/ thin as I kept trying to wash out my mistakes. The bottom left and top paintings are the observational type of stuff that I want to paint more often, to remind me and to document like a real journal. I’m definitely going to re- try the bottom left painting, I feel like it has more potential. The bottom right was my first time trying to paint a face from scratch, I definitely shouldn’t have messed with it so much.

Sunday February 21, 2021, Day four of this art journal. I am determined to post every page on this account regardless of how chaotic they get. The nightmare fuel masked monster on the left and the portrait of the girl on the upper right are both based on songs. The rest where just for fun/ practice. I don’t really think I have or will ever have a coherent style. My favorite is the monster, if someone else drew it it would make a great tattoo. My song preferences are strange for my personality.

Sunday Feb 14th, Day three. Happy Valentines Day! This one took me a couple of days both because of school and lack of motivation. I’m not a huge fan of this one. I have a tendency to put down the colors before actually knowing how they’ll look; so my pages are looking kinda dark. Not everything we make is going to be appealing in nature.

Monday February 1st; snow day! Day two of this art journal. I have to go to class on Wednesday so we’ll see how long this lasts after it starts. I spent some of the day shoveling. I’m going to make macroons tomorrow wish me luck! Mushrooms are really trendy right now.

It’s been a while since I’ve drawn; but I wanted to use these markers that my dad and I bought my mom for Christmas that she hasn’t used. So, here’s a sort of journal- entry style page that I made in my old watercolor paper book from when I was a kid. The paper is still good though!
