Just for once I’d like to tell the gate agents and flight attendants that my folding wheelchair is going into the onboard closet and not have them tell me there’s “no room”. Bitch that’s a wheelchair closet, not a “your bags” closet. Move your damn bags where they belong.

Bisan is calling for another global strike!
I saw some posts just outlining Jan 21st, and wanted to clarify that Bisan has called for a full seven days of action.
What a global strike would look like is:
calling in sick to work
purchasing bare essentials ahead of the week so you can observe the general boycott of goods / buying as little as you genuinely can
putting in a concerted effort to elevate Palestinian voices and make it clear that this strike is in support of a permanent ceasefire!

For those who will have to purchase necessary goods during this time, please observe the brands that the BDS movement is asking us to boycott!

Right now is also a good time to mention some better uses for your money during this week.
Available e-sims in Gaza are running low!!
Mirna El Helbawi and her team are working round the clock to continue to connect Palestinians as Israel does its best to cut them off from the rest of the world.
You can learn how to purchase and send e-sims here, and below you’ll find a list of what is currently needed (the areas in brackets indicate what region you should select to buy e-sims in).

CareforGaza is an organisation that does verifiably good work, distributing supplies directly to Palestinian families.
They have a Gofundme set up at the moment, but because of Gofundme’s poor track record regarding refusing to transfer funds to Palestinians, I’d recommend continuing to donate directly to their PayPal here.

Good luck to all of you. Don't turn away from Palestine!

in light of a four day ceasefire in Gaza being agreed upon, i am once again asking you all not to lose sight of the big picture. Biden and the Israeli Government are trying to frame this as a major democratic victory and as a favor respectively. they have no intention of a total ceasefire. they have no intention of stopping their genocide. remember - a ceasefire is the very first step. it’s not even the bare minimum.
the absolute bare minimum in this situation is 1) a complete ceasefire and immediate humanitarian aid in Gaza, 2) complete halt of all military foreign aid to the Israeli government, 3) the Israeli government being prosecuted for its war crimes in the International Criminal Court, and 4) land back and reparations for the Palestinian people. free Palestine means free Palestine, not just temporarily stop carpet bombing Palestine.
a temporary ceasefire is something, but it’s not even close to the end goal. we cannot let up pressure when things seem to be looking up. keep protesting, boycotting, spreading awareness, contacting politicians, etcetera. keep your eyes on Gaza. free Palestine.

So at a party it is socially acceptable to just silently join a circle of people talking and contribute to the conversation when you feel like it as if you already know everyone in the circle, btw.

SUMMONING ALL DISABLED PEOPLE
Public service announcement
As spooky season starts to ramp up. If you're on medication DO NOT DRINK THE BLACK DRINKS OR FOOD without checking the ingredients.
Charcoal is used as an "all natural" food dye and can make your meds not work as well.
DON'T CONSUME THE BLACK PRODUCTS WITHOUT CHECKING INGREDIENTS FIRST.

i wanna date someone and live with them in a shitty apartment but be happy about it because we are happy together and we can decorate it with stupid dorky posters of shit we like and figurines and art and we can cook weird recipes we found on the internet and eat them and watch cartoons even if the food is gross because we made it and we’re perfect

So I know when you hear someone talk about toxic family, often the first response is to cut them off. I just want to remind people than many cannot cut their family off. A lot of people, especially disabled people, rely on their family for support, caretaking, and even financial assistance. Yes even when they're ableist or racist or misogynist or hold horrible political views or treat them badly. Sometimes being with that family is the only way that person can survive so they deal with the bad behavior. Telling them to cut their family off when they cannot do so is insensitive, lacks empathy, and is not understanding not everyone is in a place to do so.
This is just your reminder not everyone can just cut family out for being crappy people because many of us rely on them to survive.

Disabled people pointing out ableism by the wider queer community is not "ruining the vibes" of pride month

One of the most infuriating comments about tube feeding that I’ve gotten has been something to the effect of “I have massive respect for you- I could never see myself being tube fed/getting a feeding tube” and it’s like? Yes you fucking could.
You could if you had severe gastroparesis. You could if you went into gastric failure. You could if you had EDS with gastric involvement. You would if you had autoimmune gastric involvement. You would if you had intestinal dysmotility or failure. I could name hundreds of reasons that you very well could get a feeding tube.
I know this isn’t exclusive to my medical device/chronic illness/disability. But when something happens to you that causes you to rely on a medical device, you suddenly don’t see the perceived able-bodied willpower that you are supposed to have. You see it as a tool- in my case, you see it as life support.
As always, you should have the right to determine what you do with your own body. But I don’t think able-bodied people are seeing it as a right to refuse intervention, they’re seeing it as a lack of effort, as if my own perseverance could will my paralyzed stomach back into functionality.
It’s a backhanded compliment that is wielded by an able-bodied mindset that sees at least some aspects of chronic illness and a personal failure. I’ve had other people with gastroparesis say this to me, and it’s a product of their previously abled life.
