7th year was Regulus’ worst year at Hogwarts. Not because he died, but rather because James wasn’t there.
Regulus always had the thought in the back of his mind about him having to have a whole year without James also being there, no matter how much he tried to push it away. But this didn’t make it any less painful for when he actually wasn’t there.
Of course, he still had his friends, but the part that completed him wasn’t there. The sun to his darkness, the golden retriever to his black cat.
He was scared that in that year they were separate, James would forget him, find someone new, and move on with his life.
He would never. But it already happened once for Regulus right? He knew the tale all too well. His own brother replaced him with none other than James himself. Or at least that’s what Regulus thought anyway.

People don’t talk about Remus with anxiety enough. He puts on a front and people would never assume he has it except for the people he’s close with. I don’t think he would have even told James or Sirius first. Lily would have been the first he would have confided in.
He doesn’t like to admit when somethings wrong so he’ll let his worry build up inside him until it slowly eats away at him and he doesn’t know what to do anymore because he so desperately needs the help but will not ask for it.
There’s only two people who make his head go completely quiet. Sirius and Lily. When he lost both of them he didn’t think he would survive very long. There was nobody to shut the voices off anymore. He was simultaneously all alone and yet everything was louder than ever.
He didn’t cope well after the war.
He didn’t think he deserved to cope.
So he didn’t try.
He slowly lost himself to the voices.
