GENERAL STUFF:

-trans woman + pansexual -25 years old -Both Ritsu's first name and surname (Namine) are chosen names. She was not born with either of them -antisocial, finds her joy in music rather than in people -loves keyboard instruments!! she's an excellent pianist <3 -loves to dress goth as hell, her favorite colors are purple and black and she never goes without a skirt or a dress. also owns a lot of chokers and typically wears eyeliner -currently in a queerplatonic relationship with Ruko, who is aroace :) (they're also roommates!!!! she trusts them more than anyone else!!!!) -Ritsu is NOT Japanese! She's actually a mix of Scottish and Scandinavian heritage, but she was born in Japan and has never left east Asia. She's the most pale out of her whole friend group -Deeply insecure and cares a LOT about what other people think of her. She tries her best to present as elegant and well-behaved in public, but she's really a hothead who loves to bitch about everything to her friends -DISLIKES ATTENTION!!!! She doesn't like to sing or perform for large crowds because it makes her hella nervous and she fears judgement from other people. She also doesn't like to be touched unless its someone she really trusts (like Ruko) -Used to be part of a band with three other members(a vocalist, a bassist, and a drummer). She was a keyboard player and a background vocalist. Eventually, she broke off from them and now performs solo -Cat lover!!!! <3 -Also a freak for chocolate and spicy food -She weighs 2 tons instead of 25 because I had to be boring like that -Gets freckles in the summer -Hates when her hair gets messy -Owns a plushie of Squirtle. refuses to acknowledge it because it makes her look childish

TRAGIC BACKSTORY 😔

I had to fuck her up to make her relatable so here's the full meat of it. Warning for emotional abuse/manipulation:

-Was born male. Already, her mother died during childbirth so we're not off to a great start. She's raised by her single father, who's a gruff and hyper-masculine redhead with squinty brown eyes and violent tendencies. Her dad could never keep a job, so he expects Ritsu to grow up and be the ideal person that he couldn't be. -Throughout her childhood, Ritsu's dad does things like: -Isolate her from making female friends at school -Expects her to act "mature" before she's even a teenager; yells at her when she isn't -Forces her into pursuing a male-dominated career path (IT) All of this just to make her as tough as possible. Funnily enough, it has the opposite effect. She turns out to be very shy throughout her childhood, and doesn't make long-lasting friends since she struggles to relate to other boys. Her red hair also makes her a bit of a target for bullying among her east-asian classmates -Ritsu wanted to be a piano player and a singer, but her dad insisted that it would be a waste of her time -Her dad was also a bit of a narcissist. He was convinced he was doing everything right, and held this "my son is better than your children" attitude towards other parents -Tangent: At one point Ritsu's dad got her a copy of one of the Pokemon games to try and get her interested in computers. Ritsu quickly fell in love with it, but for all the wrong reasons - she was more enchanted by the music and the storyline than the technical aspects of how it worked. Her favorite is Squirtle.

ANOTHER TANGENT: Ritsu's hair -During high school, Ritsu wanted to start growing her hair out. Her dad allowed her to as long as she kept it tied back. By this point, Ritsu had already figured out that she was trans, but she kept it a secret -The first time she saw herself with long hair, she had such an euphoric moment that she vowed never to cut it again :) that's why it's so long!!!!

DEVASTATION AND RECOVERY (backstory continued)

Ritsu always felt like her dad was shoving her into this little box: "This is who I've decided you are, this is who you will always be." She was miserable with the way her dad raised her.

-Eventually that fucker finds out that she's trans. She's 19, fully done with school, still living in her father's apartment. One night, he comes into her room and they have a stressful confrontation, one that ends with her dad yelling about how she never listened to him, and he'll kill her if she doesn't leave within the next hour. Now, big baddy daddy isn't actually a murderer. He doesn't have the guts. He probably didn't think she'd leave at all. But she did. -Ritsu is shaken, alone, on the streets for a few weeks. She grabbed all she could and busted out of there. Her dad doesn't bother to look for her since "He chose to leave, if he winds up dead it's not my problem." Ritsu moves to a shelter before eventually scraping enough funds through work to afford a tiny third floor apartment. -Fast forward. Ritsu, now liberated from her father's control, changes her name, takes piano lessons, and trains her voice to sound more feminine. It's during her time learning piano that she meets Jun, the bassist and leader of the band mentioned earlier. Ritsu completes her transition shortly after the band recruits her.

THE FRIEND GROUP :)

-Ritsu meets Teto at one of her band concerts. Teto is a social media influencer who used to be part of an indie idol group (consisting of her, Miku, and Neru. The group broke up after Miku gained fame, Neru now works at a Starbucks in the United States.) Teto learns in a conversation with Ritsu that she wants to break off from the band and do her own thing, and Teto offers to introduce Ritsu to her(Teto's) friend group since Ruko is also a singer. -Ritsu makes an instant connection with Ruko once Teto introduces them, due to Ruko's outgoing and friendly nature. Ruko is nonbinary, and Ritsu identifies with them a lot since they understand her gender dysphoria and were also raised male. Ruko is only a year younger than her. -Ritsu is closest with Ruko. She's distant with practically everyone else, but Ruko encourages her to cooperate with them. It's a process to get her comfortable with all of the vippers :)

DAD RETURNS

-Ritsu's life starts to look upwards once she finds her group. Teto and Ruko are very kind and inclusive towards her, and she has some shared knowledge with Defoko(who is a mechanic) that helps them break the ice. -Her dad sends her a letter in the mail. They have had no contact in 5 years, Ritsu looks+sounds entirely different AND changed both her first and last names, and somehow he still finds her. He wants to talk to her. Ritsu freaks out and decides to move out of her apartment, bewildered that her dad has her address. -Not wanting to drag her best friend into family drama, Ritsu lies to Ruko and tells them that she's moving because she can't pay rent. Ruko(((sweetheart))) offers to let her stay at their house. Ritsu accepts, thinking she'll find another place in a few months -Oopsie woopsies Ruko's house is Ritsu's forever home now. Ruko's disorganized as hell so they only have one bedroom (the other one is being used for storage), and Ritsu has to share a space with them until they can clear out the other room. They get into the habit of sharing a bed and helping each other with day-to-day activities. By the time the second bedroom is cleared, Ritsu prefers to stay with Ruko. Ruko's fine with this :)

Final notes: Ritsu is bitchy and doesn't like to socialize because her dad was bitchy and didn't let her find people who supported her. She's scared of what people think of her because her dad always held her to such high expectations. Ruko loves her for who she is.

woah... you're transgener... thasts so c ool.... Misc stuff I didnt already mention previously: -Ritsu is insecure about her singing voice. Partially because she's afraid she'll get nervous on stage and mess up (chronic stage fright), but also because she's irrationally afraid of sounding masculine -Likes to wear corsets because they make her look curvier -Hates how she looks in pants. Never wears them. -She has an extensive care routine for her hair and gets pissed off when it's messy (and no... she still hasn't cut it!) -Her dad still refuses to use the correct pronouns -Ritsu changed her last name to sound more Japanese and to further disconnect herself from her dad -Titanium don't jiggle but she wears bras anyway

Okay are you exhausted yet. With all of this said I also want to mention I have a secondary Ritsu interp that skips all the lore and borrows directly from canon material. He's a femboy jackass(she/him) who likes to play jokes on people and is oblivious to the consequences of his actions until they kick him in the well-dressed ass. Lily is his ex (for comedic effect) and Ruko has to watch over him like a toddler. I love both of my wissus equally.

Ruko has nearly the same amount of lore, by the way. I think you can tell who my favorites are

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.

By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?
