Can you say more about why you think Northstar is trans?? I love it but I don’t know a lot about his character!!

hsjfbdnfnnc I can ALWAYS talk about Northstar.... especially why I think he’s transmasc but bare with me because I’m going to very quickly become this:

1. The twins identical power and appearance

Unlike most twins in the Marvel Universe, Northstar and Aurora are remarkably similar in power set and appearance. This one tends to be the beginning and end of the twins’ trans coding for some, but I am a trans man who dedicates an ungodly amount of my free time to thinking about the Beaubier twins.

2. Northstar and Queer-coding

Because of the comic code authority, marvel editorial, and 70-90s era homophobia, Northstar’s coding as a queer character was left to vague innuendos and microaggressions. Now, I am now saying that John “trans people are no better than pedophiles” Byrnes intentionally set out to make Northstar transmasc and gay, but certainly the homophobia Northstar faces in Alpha Flight is flavored very similar to transphobia

(Also just as an aside.... this is one of the very reasons why the use of the term “gay coding” in place of queercoding rubs me wrong... I’m not saying queercoding isn’t a term without flaws, but here we see a clear example of how even when something is “gay coded” can having coding as other things as well.)

3. Northstar, The Mutant Metaphor, and the Skiing World

Okay this one for me is the meat and potatoes of Northstar’s trans coding. Because Northstar’s mutant identity and how it clashes with his career as a skier is the closest I think I have gotten (and may ever get) to the backlash a trans athlete gets after coming out. Honestly there are many times when the mutant metaphor and the way it is used to tell a doubly queer narrative with Northstar.... personally I can only read him as a gay trans man...

4. If you think about it long enough (and without CisBrainrot™️) it actually makes sense too.

Listen even if your cis... you can think about it without cisbrainrot... Jean-Paul ran away from foster homes at the beginning of puberty (as far as the vague timeline we have implies) and ended up on the streets. Not only an unfortunate narrative of many trans and gay youth, but it also gives Jean-Paul an opportunity to transition quietly, and I’m sure some of the shadier friends he made, or Raymonde, wouldn’t be above forging documents, say a birth certificate or two, to help smooth some feathers. (I mean... also the dude can fly so let’s not pretend EVERY rule of our reality applies to comics shjdbdjd)

Literally I could talk about this for literal days probably (lord knows I have been LOOSING my mind about it so much on Twitter I forgot I rarely talk about it here) but consider this an invitation to accept Trans Northstar into your hearts!!!! And if you don’t accept trans Northstar into your heart, this is your reminder not to send me anon hate over me saying a fictional man doesn’t have a penis lmfaooooo)

#Trans Northstar will always be real to me...#Amazing reasoning oomfie but also you could've just said BC I say so and it'd be equally valid #Plus it makes so much more sense for the twins to be identical but jp transitioned #That being said if I was jp and Mac of all people introduced me to my pre transition self looking ass sister #It'd be over for me

Super happy to report that @monsieuroverlord commissioned me to make some super fun dnd inspired auraki designs!! ^^ It was super fun to work on and they were super easy to work with

I made rora a divine soul sorceress specifically with Sehanine Moonbow as the divine origin of her subclass in some way or the other, then gave her a sea elf parent who is totally not namor and a pallid elf parent just for the excuse of a light cantrip

Aki was more non-specific with my ideas of his origin. I saw a ranger subclass involving drake and linked it to dragons which linked it to that one time connection he had with the golden dragon statue. To mee in this au he's some sort of bounty hunter and does usual uhh roguish things with the help of his. Dragon influenced subclass. Idk how he got there. Drank dragon blood or smthn Bjcsjb

Anywho this was super fun!! Ty again ^^
