What kind of associations do you want people to have with your writing?

HAPPY (belated) STORYTELLER SATURDAY😆💜

Ooooof I'm not sure? I've never really thought about it to be honest. I've thought about goals, like what I hope to accomplish, but associations with my writing? That's a great question!

I've always wanted to build a community and give people a sense of "home" through my writing and like they can find a piece of themselves in my characters, so I guess that's what I want people to associate my writing with?

That, and cool worldbuilding. I really love coming up with new things or twisting things around so they're a little different than what we know/accept, so to have people associate my writing with interesting worlds would be an absolute dream🥰

Day 22: Where would you MCs like to travel?

There's no time for traveling and hopes or dreams in the romantasy WIP🫣 (Just kidding! I'm sure if the whole "catch the master of thieves" thing and "hide my identity" thing were sidelined, Gavin would 100% travel to the Kordouva's coast and Adelaide would just want to go home, as she's been away for some time).

Day 21: Myths in my WIP

Me, trying to physcially restrain myself from infodumping about the myths in the romantasy WIP for Fantasy Indies April (Insta): LEMME TELL Y'ALL ABOUT THE PENUMBRA REALM! So in the very ambiguous setting of the romantasy WIP, I delve into parrellel universes, and talk a little bit about the veil between them. Inspired by the stories of Halloween's origins, I decided to incorporate the Penumbra Realm and its army and gates between worlds and fleshing that out was one of (okay it WAS) my favorite part of drafting. Naturally, the citizens of Kordouva have a lot of supersitions surrounding nighttime and a healthy fear of the Penumbra Realm because *spoilers*, which created the perfect environment for me to stoke the romance Adelaide and [redacted]. Shoutout to my proofreader for helping me realize I could do all the things with the shadows and still stick to the romantasy genre expectations😎

Fantasy Indies April Day 20: Saturday Snippet

Theme: Secrets

There are LOTS of secrets in BPM, making it the perfect choice for today's Saturday Snippet:

It was a small thing, but it made me feel better in this moment as I walked out to my car and turned the key in the ignition.

My family didn’t know how many lies I’d told them over the last [year and a half]. And with any luck, they’d never have to know what I’d been doing with my life since Bren died and I’d turned eighteen.

I just had to survive. I had to outlive any threat that this job posed. I needed to somehow take [main-villian] down, and live to tell the tale.

I got 4 items on sale for you today!

First up we got my favorite Spheal pokemon card, ain’t he cute? I stole this one along with all the other cards from a scalper some month back.

Second item is this strange hat, I think it’s some earth fashion since that is where I stole it from. It’s too heavy for me, so I’ll trade it for a cuter and lighter hat.

Next up we got an orb of eternal flame. It’s a nice orb of eternal flame. But with it, my room is too warm to sit with a blanket, so I would rather sell it. And no, I won't tell you where I got it from.

And at last I got one crate of fresh bananas! I’ll give you one bannana for free, it’s rich in potassium!

Some head cannons I have for the uncle, who will now be called their nickname, Ozzy!!

They go by he/they and is 10’6 tall when in their armor ovo; (hecanchangehisheightbuttheyaremorecomfortableatthatsize)

The day my uncle came to earth was the day humanity forgot. I was only able to find out recently as I was helping him clean his armor and preen their wings.

They had wanted to go unnoticed by the humans so they brewed up a potion that if any mortal laid eyes on their skin that the mortal would forget them immediately when no longer in sight. but since he was the first to arrive, he didn’t know how big gods where when they are ‘born’ into the world.

He had looked fondly at his armor and told me that their siblings made the suit that they wear so they can walk amongst the world without worrying about breaking a mortal’s mind.

I swear I saw a small white light nuzzle my uncle’s face out of the corner of my eye but I didn’t say anything.

My uncle is always wearing his armor when people are near, never showing skin and seems to be almost scared if anyone saw their skin.

He only ever takes it off when they are alone at their house or with their siblings. Sometimes I get to see him and my mom tells me that I am lucky to have been their child and I didn’t get it at that point but...

The first time I showed someone my uncle, they kept forgetting and getting headaches. It was only after I asked mom why that was happening did they tell me.

No mortals can see my uncle’s skin, only the gods and those who shared their blood can see and not forget.

My Uncle is a god and I might know what type of god he is.

My mother is a god, and my father a kind gentle soul. I would see them cuddling near the fire place talking about immortality and my mom begging dad for him to live with them and that I could join them when I am of age.

Dad would always decline with a soft sad smile and kiss them on their head, telling them that he isn’t strong enough to see his friends and family age without him. He would have them promise that if they ever find someone to love again that they aren’t betraying him, that all he cares about is that they are happy.

Milestone reached: 30k words!

A little over 30k words now in my romantasy WIP, but really made this post to share my struggle with having to come up with character names. 90% of these characters have placeholders much like the one seen here. They'll have names....just not in this draft🤣

What are some placeholders y'all use when you're drafting? Do you stick with "elephant" or do you try to short notes for yourself that way when you go back you kinda know what was supposed to be there? (Honestly that's my fear with using the "elephant" method🤣 I don't trust I'll remember the vibe I was going for or which specific elephant I was holding that place for😅)
