• During this pandemic, we may have been scrambling for the last roll of toilet paper, the last bottle of hand sanitizer, the last bag of rice or can of beans. Fear of the unknown can cause us to think with a scarcity mindset. A scarcity mindset is the belief that there will never be enough, resulting in feelings of fear, stress, and anxiety. . On the other hand, an abundance mindset flows out of a deep inner sense of personal worth and security. It’s grounded in the belief that there is more than enough for everyone. An abundance mindset can help us relieve our fears and anxieties in these uncertain times. When we feel secure and confident about what we already have, we’re channeling an abundance mindset. . Scarcity mindset, or the belief that there’s not enough, can show up as fear-based thoughts and behaviors. Here are a list of counter thoughts and positive reframes to invite abundance and positivity into your life. . #Repost @browngirltherapy Repost from @csicounseling • . . . . #mindsetofgreatness #mentalhealthblogger #mhblogger #gambia🇬🇲 #africa #newyork #mindfulness #blackconciousness #selfinquiry #selfdiscovery #holistichealth #loveyourself #positivevibes #gratitude #blackmentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #BlackLivesMatter #BlackLivesMovement #TogetherWeRise #theshowmustbepaused #blackmentalhealthmatters #amplifymelanatedvoices #blackmentalhealth #endpolicebrutality #africarise #usingfashionforsocialimpact #GeorgeFloyd #Antiracism #Antiracist (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CC_yIBiHqLm/?igshid=cg2ozvz8wdqr

Repost from @theconsciouskid • Racism is not limited to the individual choices of "bad people". It is structural and embedded into all aspects of society—this includes laws, dominant cultural norms, and our very own consciousness. We need to understand how individual acts of racism are a reflection of systemic (structural) racism. We also need to understand how is affects us in Africa. One thing we rarely look at is the connect between African History, American History and European History especially in the context of structural racism We hope this breakdown of individual vs. structural racism is useful. Repost from @theblackhistorylesson • SKIN BLEACHING 👸🏿+🧪=👸🏽 * It is the prerogative of an individual to do whatever they want with their body.*🤎 Disclaimer: This post is not encouraging skin bleaching nor is it slandering those who choose to do so! Anyway... let’s get on to the not-so positive history of skin bleaching.🤭 Skin bleaching is the practice of using chemical substances to lighten skin tone by lessening the concentration of melanin. Melanin is a pigment which actually helps protect the skin from the sun which is why people become very sensitive to the sun and can be sore/red after bleaching. Skin bleaching is not only very common in Africa (and black peoples around the world in general) but in Asia as well. Skin bleaching started a long time ago and was often done by royalty and those associated with wealth and status. The perception that the lighter/closer you are to being white then the more beautiful and attractive you are is a result of Eurocentric beauty standards which have been imposed on many races. The view that the lighter one is the ‘better’ they are is described as colourism which stems from times of slavery where the fairer black slaves and mixed race slaves were allowed to work in the house (not that it was much of a party in there either 🥴) and were valued more, being given work that would be considered less degrading. Whilst skin bleaching is very common in all parts of Africa, it is particularly common in Nigeria where it was reported in 2011 that approximately 77% of women are recorded to bleach their skin, making Nigeria the country with highest rates of skin bleaching. . . . . #skinbleaching #skinbleachinghistory #historyfacts #mentalhealthblogger #mhblogger #gambia🇬🇲 #africa #newyork #mindfulness #blackconciousness #selfinquiry #selfdiscovery #holistichealth #loveyourself #positivevibes #gratitude #awareness #BlackLivesMatter #BlackLivesMovement #TogetherWeRise #theshowmustgoon #nojusticenopeace #amplifymelanatedvoices #usingfashionforsocialimpact #slavery #loveyourskin #youaredivine #knowyourhistory #findyourself #youareenough (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CChDtohnHLO/?igshid=n74r09wa9h7t

Repost from @odunifehistory • Follow @odunifehistory Day 5 Already! 🤓 In the previous 4 post days, we have looked at ancient Africa's contribution to Education, Design & Architecture, Science & Technology and Agriculture. Today we will look at Africa’s contribution to medicine and this history would be incomplete without the story of Imhotep. Do you know about Imhotep? He is considered to be the first physician that ever lived and is the father of Medicine. He laid the foundation for modern medicine as we know it today. While Hippocrates is considered by some to be the father of modern medicine. Imhotep was already practising and writing detailed medical texts 2,200 years before Hippocrates was born. Imhotep was best described as a one-stop human hospital, very knowledgeable in the extraction of medicinal value from plants and herbs in a way that was gentle to the environment and to the human body. He diagnosed and treated various kinds of diseases of the abdomen, bladder, eyes, rectum, tongue, skin, hair and nails. In addition to his impressive medical port folio, he was also a skilled dentist. Due to his mastery of medicine and other disciplines, he was seen as a god of science and medicine and he was worshipped by the ancient Greeks and Romans. It was said that he had been bestowed with the book of healing from the ancient forces of ancestral Africa and he used it for the good and advancement of mankind. Before his death, Imhotep authored the Edwin Smith Papyrus which is an Egyptian medical text containing almost a hundred anatomical terms and describing various types of injuries and their treatment Imhotep’s contributions to the world of medicine cannot and should not be overlooked. There's so much more to cover on this topic but I am constrained by insta space. You can refer to my previous post on the origins of C-section from the Bunyoro Kingdom of Uganda in East Africa. If you would like to take a deeper dive into these "hidden" African stories, feel free to download my E-book: Africa's great contribution to World civilisation. You can find the link in my Bio.
