today is national women’s friendship day in the US and, as two women who are also very good friends, we’re fans!
we racked our brains this week thinking of our favourite healthy and successful female friendships in books, and were disappointed that we couldn’t think of many!

so apparently yesterday was international kissing day…

we’ll take any excuse to talk about some of our fave romances in literature so here are a couple of our recommendations:
alli’s rec: i’ll give you the sun by jandy nelson
one of my favorite contemporaries as it features both a straight and gay romance, and both are done so beautifully. i honestly dare you to read this, and not root for each of the narrators and their respective love interests. (even if one couple might be *cough* a tad problematic? idk read it, maybe we can discuss after 🙃) nelson does something really interesting with time and the dual narration, and it all flowed really organically without sacrificing the suspense needed for the underlying mystery. i’ve become such a sucker for ya that feels like literary fiction and this definitely fits the bill!

grace’s rec: the all souls trilogy by deborah harkness
okay my dudes, brace yourself - this is a trilogy (and an additional novel i have yet to read!) filled with magic, witches, vampires, daemons and romance! we love us some star-crossed lovers!
i have loved these books for years and - no spoilers! - but deborah harkness is real good at the history stuff and that’s so much fun when you’re dealing with creatures as ancient and magical as witches and vampires! also i just love diana and matthew okay?
maybe don’t watch the show though…
