Phillip Schofield coming out as Gay is extremely important
Phillip Schofield, for those who don’t know, is a beloved TV icon in the UK. He has been a presenter of prime time, Saturday night, and morning talk show shows for decades and is ITV’s most famous personality. Philip has never really had a scandal in his life. He’s kept his record remarkably clean and is a very safe and uncontroversial choice for TV presenting. Nobody really has any reason to dislike him or boycott a show with him on it. He’s always just been this Bob Ross type wholesome character that everyone loves.
This week, he came out as gay and talked about it on live TV. Sitting on the same sofa he and his colleague Holly Willoughby would interview his guests on.
This is massive, not only because he is now a very famous member of the LGBT community, but for a number of reasons many people are overlooking right now. Phillip is 57 years old. When he was a child homosexuality was still illegal in the UK. And even after the legalisation, just being a regular citizen and being gay or bi or trans would have been taboo. If Philip has any questions about his sexuality, he would really have been told to suppress this and generally, it wouldn’t have been supported. So Philip got married to his wife and had two daughters. Everyone really though he was straight because of this.
Philip has always been regarded as a “silver fox” in recent years. A “Silver fox” is someone (normally a man) of around 50-60 with silver hair who is remarkably charming and good looking. Someone like George Clooney or Mark Harmon. Not many people really questioned his sexuality. So him coming out as gay has shocked a lot of people. Many are immediately jumping to the idea that he cheated on his wife with a man. This is completely not the case. His wife and daughters are very supportive of him. He loves his wife, but just not in the way he thought he did. His wife is not a victim, she doesn’t need pitied and sympathy, because Phillip has not done anything wrong. They have had a loving and caring marriage for many years and have raised their children well.
Sexuality is not always concrete. I’m sure many of you on this site thought you were straight or cisgender at some point in your life until realising hang on...maybe I’m not what I thought. Maybe I’m more male than female, maybe I like guys, maybe I like girls, maybe I like all of them, maybe I like none of them, maybe I’m not quite this and not quite that. Sexuality can change. People can be conditioned to believe they are one thing, and all of us know how difficult this journey is, especially for a man Phillip’s age, and even more so in the public eye. He has done remarkably well to keep any controversy out of the public eye. And he made this statement of his own accord so HE could own his coming out and not have it exposed by someone else.

Doctor Who is about to die
Fugitive of the Judoon is probably the best episode we’ve had this season. The plot actually went somewhere, the return of Captain Jack was handled quite well, and the Judoon were not ruined.
Furthermore Jo Martin as the Ruth Doctor have a much better performance in those 15 minutes than Whittaker has done for the past two years. BUT. As much as I adore Ruth, and she makes an amazing doctor, recent comments from Chris Chibnall may spell the final nail in the coffin for the fan base that have been loyal for so many years. Here’s some problems we have with the Ruth Doctors addition.
She has been confirmed to be a REAL incarnation of the Doctor. No parallel worlds/alternate timelines/tricks/clones. This, on the surface is fine, until you think:
Okay, shes 14? Or something later? Cool but then why would she not be given a proper introduction and reveal like the other Doctors have? Oh, shes meant to be from Whittaker’s past.
Okay. She CANNOT be pre-Hartnell. There are reasons because of this:
If Ruth is Pre-Hartnell, why does her TARDIS resemble a Police Box? The act of the Forst Doctor stealing the TARDIS and running away from Gallifrey and getting the chameleon circuit stuck is one of the key and most iconic events in Doctor Who’s 57 year history. We also saw the Doctor as a male child in Series 8, with a male voice, and his parents or the adults in the room can be heard using male pronouns. So the doctor WAS ORIGINALLY MALE. it’s been established.
Certain sources are saying that Ruth is supposed to be between 2 and 3. NO. This can’t work either!
The second doctor was put on Trial and forced to regenerate into the Third Doctor. Three was then exiled to earth, and started working for UNIT. THE THIRD DOCTOR DID NOT HAVE A TARDIS AT THE BEGINNING OF HIS ERA. SO HOW CAN RUTH BE BETWEEN THE SECOND AND THIRD DOCTORS IF SHE HAS A TARDIS...? We also saw 2 regenerate directly into 3, so there is no explanation for and extra incarnation to pop up in there.
In my personal Opinion, it would have made a lot more sense and been a much better choice to cast Jo Martin as The Rani, or Romana. Or another female time lord, but by casting her as another random itaration of the Doctor just adds another level of chaos on the already manic series.
This has nothing to do with Jo being a black female.
This is about the fact that Chibnall is about to retcon a show with one of the most iconic and beloved lore timelines in history. And when you go back and start screwing with 50 year old established events, the fans are going to be pissed off. Jo Martin gave a stellar performance on Sunday, but by screwing around with the lore, fans will be alienated, Jo will receive unnecessary backlash, and the first black female doctor will be received poorly. I really hope Chibnall doesn’t go down this road.
Alienating your audience is not the way to introduce diversity

when his Aura broke, his semblance stopped working and his good luck ran out, leaving Qrows bad luck to work more extensively. You can see Qrow genuinely snap anc crumble as Clover was his only true friend because Qrows bad luck didn’t effect him.
My god this scene broke me. Qrow deserved good luck and he’s going to be framed for Clovers murder because TYRIAN used his sword.
I never even liked Clover as a character but damnit RT I WEEPED for him.
You sick people. Well done. I’m broken bye.
