TFW you realize the world has always been dystopian. Unsafe, full of greed and violence. Dystopian movies and books aren't about the future. They're about what is and always has been.

it’s both comforting and heartbreaking that over time you will slowly forget the little details of someone you once loved so deeply until their memory is just a hazy blur like a dream you once had and can’t quite remember anymore

The whole idea of soulmates is based on the premise that being soulmates is something mutual, and a given.
In real life, it's a bit more complicated. The perfect person for you may not think you're the perfect person for them. But then again, this probably means they weren't really "perfect" for you.
Somewhere out there, there are probably multiple people who would feel the same about you, as you would about them. That is, given the right circumstances; if you meet at the right place and time, and all that, you might just be lucky enough to get to know each other that well and develop that bond.
I suppose this is what some of us want to call "soulmates". But, for what?
Maybe because we're hopeless romantics, deep down.
Or simply because we find solace in the idea that there's a plan for us, and life isn't just a convoluted series of semi-random events. We would really prefer it to have a deeper meaning. A purpose.
Otherwise, we'd be turning our gaze dangerously close to the overwhelming idea that we're but a speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark.
Absolutely frightening.
(sighs)

I must confess. I know it's been years, and I have gotten really good at convincing myself that I'm over it... but the truth is that I really miss the old duolingo tree.

I saw this exchange online today and it made me laugh:
Dude 1 "Sole proprietorships are literally communism because the worker owns the means of production"
Dude 2 "So if we all started sole proprietorships would that mean we've finally overthrown capitalism?"
I mean, it's more complicated than that, but I like your way of thinking!

on "flaws"
Story time! To give you some context first: I have mild cerebral palsy. It's not extremely obvious, save for a limp, a tendency to go full t-rex with my arms, and reduced muscle mass in the affected limbs. Obviously I got bullied as a kid for BeInG a CriPpLe, and although people stopped noticing (or at least pretended to) as I grew up, these features have remained the biggest sources of my insecurities.
So, I met up with some friends from highschool the other day. I mentioned my disability in passing while reminiscing. To my astonishment, one of my really close friends was completely surprised. He said that he never realized, and that he thought this was like a part of my cute-and-clumsy-emo-girl thing.
I kid you not when I say that was, somehow, truly the best, most reassuring thing i've ever heard? Like... basically, someone thought my disability is... cute? Suddenly, my brain no longer classifies it as a flaw. That random comment changed SO MUCH in the way i perceive myself.
i'm only sharing this because I think there's definitely someone out there who needs to hear this. That thing you hate if yourself? Stop thinking that it's a flaw. Think that it ADORNS you. It DISTINGUISHES you. It is one of the things that make you, YOU. And that is BEAUTIFUL. Don't let others tell you otherwise.

i think this is a "i feel threatened by the perspective of others getting respite from, or -- even worse -- closure about, things which i had to stand in silence. it's only fair if everybody suffers like i did" kind of gatekeeping. repressed and bitter. sad and painful for everyone involved.
Idk for some reason, people really have it in this mindset that they're healed, more authentic, and better than chronic complainers because they're always talking about how they're "unbothered" by everything, don't complain about anything, do not have an issue with literally anybody (except negative people, apparently), don't want to be around people who have issues with other people, just want to go to work and go to bed
But really they're describing depression, repression, apathy, low emotional intelligence, escapism, and/or projection
Like NOTHING bothers you except people that are bothered by things, to the point of shitting on them? Low emotional intelligence and/or apathy and/or projection.
You literally do not care how bad or good someone is because it's just not your place to give a fuck and you see everything related to morals as just unnecessary gossip? Apathy
You just don't want to deal with people ever unless they can be as shallow minded and toxic positive as you and can avoid any difficult conversations that require an understanding of struggling and trauma because it's not "live laugh love"? Low emotional intelligence, apathy, and escapism.
You just literally cannot "sit and stew" in the negativity but you can sit for days, weeks, months, etc on other people being negative because it's for some reason on your mind despite "not being bothered"? Repression and projection.
You literally don't want to acknowledge any problems of the world and just get that bag and go home and vibe? Probably depression, some repression, and more than likely escapism.
It is NOT healthy to be this apathetic toward negativity. And it's also probably the most privileged you can be, is uninterested and uncaring about the world's problems, your friend's problems, evil people, etc, but you can certainly make time to complain about the people who complain about it.
*and if you were authentic, you wouldn't need to push your performance so hard and push everyone else down in the process for living differently than you, unless they're negative to everyone because they're being a dick, like you're being one, then it's not your business*.
