gather roun’ children
trying to explain executive dysfunction is pretty much impossible, especially explaining it to neurotypical people. not being able to explain it makes awareness and acceptance more difficult. but to try to explain it, executive dysfunction is basically this. there's something I really want/need to do. (take a shower, get food, do homework, feed the dog, etc.) but even though I'm telling my brain I need to do that, it just wont cooperate. if any neurotypical person wants to brush their teeth, eat something, clean their room, etc. they just go and do it, not much effort needed. but its mentally exhausting to some people to do these things and that itself can be very discouraging. executive dysfunction isn't being lazy, it isn't putting excuses, it isn't lack of motivation, and it isn't not caring. It is a valid and real mental block between having to do something and being able to do it. I wish this was acknowledged more and not something thrown under the rug. it’s real and it’s not limited to a specific group of people. Anyone with Any type of mental illness or physical disability can suffer from executive dysfunction. it’s a real thing and it's not the person’s fault.

adhd isn’t just being distracted and not being able to understand things. adhd isn’t running after a squirrel or staring at a shiny object for half a day. Even though those things can happen, adhd is more than what stereotypes deem it to be. adhd is feeling like a failure 24/7 because of the debilitating symptoms of RSD. its having sensory issues that make it difficult to do simple things because they irritate you and nearly cause you a mental break down. its extreme impulsiveness that can put yourself and others in dangerous positions. its having ways to cope that are not exactly the best and can often further deteriorate your mental state. so when people don’t get a math problem or lose their train of thought and say “oh haha guess I have adhd” or any thing else like that, not only does it invalidate us who truly have it, but it angers us to know that the struggles that come with having this disability are thrown under the rug and laughed at as if adhd is just something made up to excuse laziness, a short attention span, and a way to get Adderall to get high.

ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.. an over diagnosed learning disability. For those that are really ADHD, it sucks. the people that are "normal" take Adderall, Ritalin, etc. to study for tests while we have to take it every fucking day just so we can sit through class without getting distracted by the lamest things..
