One Piece Wano Theory - The Fall of Onigashima

Spoilers for Manga Chapters leading up to and including c997

So yeah, that happened Not content with just throwing his weight around in beating 8 Scabbards at once, Kaido decided to up his power play by LIFTING THE WHOLE DAMN ISLAND which he’s gonna then carry across this storming sea, to the Flower Capital - which is in the midst of the Fire Festival and completely unaware that this raid is taking place - which he likely will drop on top of the Flower Capital with the people below: destroying its aristocracy, a large chunk of rebels and leaving the weak and weakened at the mercy of Kaido’s (and Big Mom’s) military might.

So now we have more stakes to deal with, 2 stakes primarily:

Stake 1 - Defeat Kaido before Onigashima leaves the ocean, allowing the island to fall before it damages any populated area in Wano Stake 2 - Prevent Onigashima from falling on the Flower Capital, but at the same time defeat Kaido Obviously, neither are easy, but 2 is much more difficult than 1 to achieve, which means that Stake 2 will almost certainly come to fold, so the question is this: How does the Alliance STOP Onigashima from Falling?

No easy feat, but maybe this is a place for other Straw Hats and side characters to shine. So far I have 7 possibilities linked to who could help save Wano from ‘New Onigashima’.

Option 1 - Gods, Titans and Homies

Option 1 considers the idea of what, or better yet who, can amass to such a size to cushion Onigashima, and the first answer that comes to mind is Prometheus and Zeus. We’ve already seen Zeus and Prometheus grow to incredible sizes in Whole Cake Island and they both are able to carry Big Mom with ease, so who knows how much weight they can carry at that size. Zeus is probably the easier bet for cushioning Onigashima since Prometheus would burn everything too, allowing Zeus to be the pivotal character also allows it to go two ways, either Nami reclaims Zeus from Big Mom in some manner - which will likely lead to BM’s defeat - or Big Mom turns on Kaido and works with Nami to help. This allows Nami to show the strength of her Clima Tact, being able to strengthen Zeus beyond Big Mom’s own capabilities.

Option 2 - The Last Gift of the Minks

Currently the Minks are completely weakened by fighting Kaido, despite their Su Long form they have been left with a stalemate, however the Minks do have a disadvantage: if they turn off Su Long they are out for a considerably long time, too long to return to the fight, but if they don’t turn off Su Long they will die from exhaustion. Unfortunately I am convinced that many Minks will fight to the death, including at least one of the leaders, but there is a more valiant way they could go out, and it’s a power all minks had which is overlooked: Electro. Electro is born from every mink, the ability to produce electricity which is further empowered in Su Long, but when Carrot fought Big Mom’s fleet she was able to somewhat float off the ground, and that is what can help Onigashima float. If enough Su Long Minks surround the bottom of Onigashima, they could provide an electromagnetic field that can keep the island from even touching the surface below, pure static electricity as the Minks give every ounce of their life to save Wano.

Option 3 - Rise of the Kozuki Dragon

Momonosuke has an artificial Devil Fruit of a Dragon, one where he too is able to produce these clouds to float. The problem however, is that he doesn’t know how to use them, Momonosuke has been so busy training his human form that he’s never considered the benefits of a dragon form. Of course, this means Momonosuke cannot do this alone, but fortunately he’s got people who can help; Yamato has extensive knowledge of how the clouds work, Nami has weather magic, Shinobu’s ‘maturing’ theories could help strengthen Momo’s dragon powers or even his own age and experience and, should she turn on Kaido, Big Mom could imbue the clouds with souls to make them Homies, not only being able to funnel more power but give more sentient intent to the clouds themselves, she could even enthrall Kaido’s clouds this way.

Option 4 - Combined Might and Monsters

While we expect at the least Luffy and Zoro to have a crack at Kaido in the final fight, and hopefully more if not all the Straw Hats, there becomes a matter of what others can do to stop Onigashima from falling. We’ve seen Nami’s potential with Zeus but others can also combine in strength. First is Robin, her Gigantesco Manos or even a Spider’s Web could help resist the fall, but of course even she cannot carry that much weight. This is where Chopper’s Monster Point and Franky’s Iron Pirate can also assist with their raw strength, and this is where Usopp can also shine. Usopp’s weaponry appear to involve plants now thanks to his pop-greens, but what if he could influence existing flora? One of the main pieces of the Flower Capital is a giant tree and if he could influence that he too could be able to contribute to pinning Onigashima above him. But it can go farther, Tama’s DF allows the opening to control the entire flying squadron, anyone Tama brought with her (remember she has something brewing in 3 minutes), Drake’s Allosaurus form, Hawkins’ giant Straw Demon, Jimbei can even call the giant Koi from the waterfall (though it may serve more to drag it back), Marco’s phoenix flames may also have influence on top of Apoo’s sound manipulation, Kid’s metal, even Law’s shambles could assist - since I don’t think he could make it big enough to cover all of Onigashima. There’s also the matter of Perospero’s candy if he survives to help and anyone else not revealed to have been present in Onigashima, the possibilities are wide and combined could hold up an island. 

Option 5 - Outside Parties

By raising Onigashima from the ground, Oda wants to give us the perception that no other external forces can roll up to Onigashima and support for or against Kaido, but that could be a misdirect. Currently on the surface as far as we know, Big Mom’s remaining forces, Law’s remaining crew and any other samurai, prisoners, SMILE members Tama had taken control over and as far as we know Hiyori, Hitetsu, Onimaru and Caribou, maybe even the Mountain God(s) from the Oden flashback. But outside of who we know is in Wano could be others we didn’t expect to be there; Germa 66 for one may come to ‘repay’ Big Mom for her attempted assassination, reengaging Sanji with his estranged family - and Baeju...which holds bias in this hope - which could just send all the other North Blue boys in a frenzy. The other outside factor is the Marines, Drake may not have called for help but circumstances outside of Wano may call for it: the marines going for a Warlord we didn’t know about (We only knew about Weevil, Mihawk, Boa, Buggy and Kuma, meaning Law and Doffy’s replacements were unknown), if Fujitora also shows up then Onigashima is no problem to his Gravity DF, but it will snowball another conflict.

Option 6 - The Sky Ships

This is probably my most deep-cut part of the Onigashima theory. As much as Luffy has to defeat the Yonko, Wano will never be free unless they see it for themselves: Orochi dead, Kaido defeated, until that is something the people can even believe in, Wano can never truly escape that oppression. Which is why arriving at the Flower Capital during the Fire Festival may actually allow ‘Wano’ itself to help save the country and a key part of that is the Sky Ships. Oda made note of paying attention to it, and making sure that the Fire Festival is as big as ever because this is the 20 year prophecy, every person in the Flower Capital right now is as spirited as ever because they desperately are clinging to the idea of salvation, so what if Oda is actually giving them an opportunity? The Sky Ships alone may actually be imbued with the spirits, the will of those who died for Wano, in that way the spirits of Wano itself could prevent Wano from falling atop of them, the same way Skypeia’s golden bell was to reach Noland and Calgara. It may be simple as these mythic powers from Wano’s culture, but it could be ushered by someone else - Brook. In WCI Brook proved himself capable of suppressing souls of chess soldiers via his DF, able to harm homies via Soul Solid, so what if via his Soru Soru no Mi he would be able to temporarily raise the souls of Wano’s dead and empower them through the memory and belief of the people symbolized by the Sky Ships they would release into the sky. 

Option 7 - All of the Above Outside of Luffy suddenly awakening his DF and making the island bounce off or a surprise Katakuri appearance, there aren’t many other options outside of the six detailed. But, why settle for only one option? Each of these options are feasible together as well as apart; Nami can empower Zeus and Momo’s clouds while Usopp, Robin, Jimbei, Chopper and Franky provide weight support as the Minks surround the island and Momo’s clouds with electro and raised by Brook’s soul-powered Sky Ships. A culmination of an absolutely bonkers scenario we’ve found ourselves in which can allow every Straw Hat a vital means of contribution but also allowing Wano and its citizens to have a large part in liberating its country from Kaido, Orochi and the Isolationist Regime Wano currently has.

Whether that comes to be remains to be seen, there are many pieces moving and as with this moment itself, it can go any manner of directions, we just have to wait for Oda to weave his magic.

 Happy 2019! We are deeply, deeply sorry for the long hiatus. Flu season is getting around, and the crew are still sick, plus I’ve been majorly busy with loads of work now that spring is coming and job hunting season/ visa renewal season for me. But to make up for the long absence, the crew gathered everything everyone missed even while being sick so I will lay out everything. First off, the chapter will resume this week I think as last time, it was left where Zoro gets acquainted with his new friend, Yasu as he brought him to a town of smiles and suffrage, Ebisu town. Everyone was all smile despite the hunger, pain, and illness going around, they still keep a big happy face. Zoro thought it was strange, but understood the hardship they are w/standing. One of the villagers mentioned to Yasu that a Robin-hood hero pass by the village again. Supposedly, this hero brings them food and water to ease the hunger of the villagers. Who could this stranger be? They call him ox-free. Back at Onigashima, MAJOR trouble stirred up! Big Mom showed up to get Zeus back, and brought her whole crew with them. It was chaos! They steer the mother ship towards the water fall almost reaching to the top, but King, one of the big honchos, used his devil fruit, the dragon-dragon fruit, pteranodon style. He turned into a dinosaur, pterodactyl. Anyway, King knock the ship down as Big Mom sinks into the ocean. At the end, Sanji, Franky, Ussop, and Law are heading for the hills to avoid getting caught. Law tells the guys that if they caught, they must not reveal their plans, and to not pick a fight as it would ruined their chance to fight for real. Sanji then hears screaming from the village, and it was none other than Page. Demanding for Sanji to show up, he destroys the soba stand, and hurting the villagers. Suddenly, Sanji kicks Page to the curb. He tells the guys to go on ahead as he pulls out the weapon that Niji left for him back at WCI. Sanji then pulls out his weapon and BAM! The dark knight, Soba Mask, appears! Black suit, family hair do, shades, rocket shoes, I mean the whole enchilada. Apparently, this new suit really is useful and beating Page. At the end, a surprise got washed up ashore. Chopper takes a stroll with Tama, Kiku, and Momo and they spot Big Mom. However, when she woke up, she doesn’t know her where she is nor who she is. EH?! AMNESIA? Will it last? What’s gonna happen if regains her memory? Big time yonkou will clash! What fate will hold for the kingdome of Wano?! GAH! So many mysteries and questions! Guess we’ll have to leave it up to the big man. Let’s be surprised. Also, if you want to read official manga, please use official websites. Do not go around revealing spoilers on any media such as FB, TW, or any other to everyone who are patiently waiting for the official released. It’s rude and messed up. Be considerate. Next, totally behind on the anime, but we’ll wrap it up in one. We finally see Luffy catching up to Katakuri’s level and getting the respect after finding out that Flampe pulled a dirty trick and put that brat in her place. This past weekend’s episode was a major throw down! We finally see Luffy’ new awesome gear 4th move, SNAKE MAN, which it increased his speed of his attacks. Katakuri however was still one step ahead thanks to his awesome observation haki. Both warriors are going all out majorly. The guys pulled their final move into a huge impact of haki!! Meanwhile, Sanji and Pudding wait in an alley. Pudding hesitates to say goodbye to Sanji, but approached him for a final request. At the end, the fight is over. The victor is…none other than our fellow rubber champ, Luffy-kun! Katakuri stands up and asked him if he will beat Big Mom. He vowed to come back and do so. Katakuri finally passed out defeated for the first time. At the end, Luffy leaves his hat on his face as show of his respect and Pekoms shows up. It’s 5 until 1 am. Next time, Pekoms helps Luffy by awakening his sulong form, but will it save our hero? DON’T MISS IT! Thank you, Katakuri for putting up a major fight. We hope to see you down the road. Now on with the goods! First, we received a telegram from Tongari-san as he caught the flu, but will get better in no time. One Piece 853 thoughts

After the long pause, having two chapters in a row is something I’m strangely unfamiliar with O.o though, as you may know, Oda’s frequent pauses - added to the regular ones of Shounen Jump - are due to his health: so it’s a good thing he takes them, we need him alive and well to finish the manga - so for at least another 20 years. Stay healthy, Oda-sensei, please. The good thing though is that on the cover they seemingly announce they’ve set a twitter account for the “behind the scenes” of One Piece drawing? Great! I’m looking forward to see whose desk is messier, if Oda’s or mine XD

For what concerns the cover... after the last few covers with Robin’s art and Brook’s love song and so on, this one’s a bit disappointing for not having any particular hints at something, as it simply shows something we already know so well: Barto’s love for the mugis. 

So Brook was defeated - or did he let Big Mom defeat him? - I was a fan of the “Brook-won’t-defeat-Big-Mom-at-most-tie-with-her-barely-escaping-with-his-soul” club since the day of its foundation, and I’m glad today to celebrate with its members. Honestly: IMO it’d be a stretch if Luffy defeated BM now, not to mention Brook...! But his ability let him: 

1. survive - as the piece of a collection, but beggars can’t be choosers

2. hold his ground against her for a while 

3. possibly* steal the poneglyph anyway - *whereas by possibly I intend “almost certainly”, or he wouldn’t have made that big speech in not one, but even two chapters, about the courage of Pedro acting as decoy, Luffy becoming Pirate King and etc etc all of that heroic stuff - I don’t know how, but his fruit must have come in handy 

We also learn that not only Zeus and Prometheus, but also the Big Mom’s hat, which has a name - technically it has a soul, so I shouldn’t freak out, but still,  a hat with a name... -, have a part of Mom’s soul, and therefore are stronger than all the iother homies. From the looks of it, it could be that they act sort of as clones of hers, and of her power, and by that her power is multiplied. I don’t know what kind of abilities a hat - ???? maybe it makes her smarter,  - could have, but Zeus and Prometheus have their weather power and so they are already pretty strong. For now, this is the overview of Mama’s powers. 

So someone else “stole” Mama’s poneglyph before. It isn’t clear how, if Roger did indeed steal or copy them, or he simply “perceived” them or their translation - he must have perceived thier translation, since, as we know from Silver Rayleigh’s story, they didn’t have any Ohara scholars with them who could translate it - unlike our Mugis, who conveniently have Robin with them. 

What is certain though is that Roger’s ability must be linked to the ability of this so called Three-Eyed tribe, from which Pudding’s unknown father must hail from. Mama evidently hoper for her to be able to translate them for her one day. 

Getting to the Die Hard movie part of this chapter, Pedro is fighting Baron Tamago’s evolution

Tamago, or Chick, whatever, seems so well fused with his devil fruit ability that I’m suspecting he might have been an object that ate a devil fruit, originally - it wouldn’t be strange to introduce such things, which we know can exist in-universe, in this specific arc where everything and everyone has souls*

*where by “souls” I mean “life”. Not souls souls. They all are pieces of s***.

I don’t know why but these two panels are hilarious to me. Look at him, the poor thing on the ground. A omelette.

BADASS MODE

Yup. Who doesn’t appreciate a nice explosion every now and then?

Carrot and Chopper save Pedro from becoming a kamikaze - not so fashionable in these geopolitical period, you know - by oulling him in the Mirror World with them, where they move around in a merry company holding hostages Brulée and a train dude. 

On a side not, it may be my having watched too many idiot animes in my teenage years or just the meme, but Carrot has the “Senpai” mode on. It’s all the memes’ fault. Gettin to the very hightlight of the chapter, because f*** BIg MoM, f*** the poneglyphs, Roger, the third-eyed tribe revelation, Pudding, her power, Luffy, Sanji...

THIS

is what I’ve been waiting for my whole life. 

Just kidding, just since Oda started being so lovey-dovey, so around the time of Babt 5 and Sai and then Praline and Aladdine. Because when you start moving around the genre, you also have to parody it, and here we are, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, in all its glory, the shoujo parody.

It reminds me so fricking much of “The rose of Versailles”, though I never watched it - too many ribbons honestly - the style is just that. Funny also because both Luffy and Sanji look like females just as much as Nami. Also, kudos to Carrot for even finding the time to draw additional around roses around. These are the little things that make me say Sensei’s a genius. For the big things, we got Rafter and co., for all the rest, this. 

From the Mirror we also learn thet Jinbei and Nami are moving around the castle, probably planning something big - or at least that’s what I hope, we’re not getting out of here without a very good plan and a certain number of side plans.

In the meantime, Luffy’s making a ruckus - no surprise here - trying to find Sanji. Things are getting bad though, because a “Minister class backup” has been requested, meaning someone other than Cracker and Smoothie but just as strong as them will come for his head - which is still missing a teeth!! Someone fix it already! Bropper ! Where are you when we need you? 

Confirm that Reiju’s strong above - second confirmation, she did bend jail bars as a kid. 

Also Oda’s making her stay almost naked just casually like that, lol, okay.

That’s lovely of you, Luffy, but East Blue is not literally around the corner.

And then... here we are now. 

Sanji’s been smelling the inviting fragrance of freedom for a while now. Last chapter even Reiju supported him and the list of pros for him playing the sacrifice gets thinner every second. Though he still appears upset, I don’t think he’s being weighed down by remorse anymore, has instead finally started devising a fricking plan. I cannot express into words how much I hope he has. Why else leaving Reiju’s side or reflecting yet again on all the pros and cons?

There’s no going back now... Luffy...

Here I don’t think he’s referring to himself not going back - though we should wait for other translations to confirm it -, but to the situation that they, collectively as Mugiwaras, have come to. They have not only angered a yonkou, Sanji’s murderous family, risked a ton of lives other than their owns... they have done all of this in one moment and in one place: now, they can either submit to eveything or rebel to eveything, therefore they must bet everything in order to achieve it. And that resolve has now been made by the cook as well. 

He will try and find a way to make everything work as a whole: save his crew, his true father back in East Blue, his sister - I’m not bettin he’d save the brothers and father too, but we’ll see -, himself. Since Jinbei and Nami are now free to act and Bropper and Co are being productive as well, a masterplan could come out of what had started as a total disaster - something like the plan in Gold, though that is not canon, a plan that includes arriving to the Spannung moment, which is the wedding ceremony, and then turning things upside down, using the enemies abilities against them. And that is why I’m thinking Mr. Prince, not Sanji the Cook, steps in on the wedding day. 

Finally: will Luffy be a part of said plan? Does he really intend to wait outside in that place until Sanji finishes things off in front of the altar? We’ll see. Apparently the Captain trusts the Cook enough to let him deal with it himself.
