Hoshiko Yukimura is a 21 years old practitioner of magic and brilliant student at the Faculty of Arcane Studies of Prague.

Living in a cyberpunk setting where the secrets of magic and occultism have been uncovered in the XXI century and have since been incorporated into advanced technology, Hoshiko possesses both the aptitude and the rare genetic predisposition to be a candidate for an elite group of magic-wielding soldiers to defend humanity on the frontlines on its war for survival.

As such, plenty of responsibilities and expectations piled up on this prodigious yet anxious and insecure young girl. As part of a the advanced training she is undertaking to qualify for the project, she needs to summon her own familiar to aid her in spellcasting.

Proud of my kiddo. They created their own powder for luck, as well as a prayer to go with it when they burn it. They did most of the work. I helped where they asked for help and supervised when it came to their candle and the charcoal disk.

Little witch Hoshiko

Took me a while but I've finally finished an illustration of my new OC Hoshiko Yukimura, capturing all of her awkward joy as she's posing in her costume for Halloween, ready for her debut adventure. And since she's a magical girl in denial, the costume I chose for her couldn't be anything else but a witch, a somewhat under-represented archetype in cyberpunk settings.

She loves this stuff, being in costume, looking all pretty and magical, but she feels too much under pressure to ever admit it. She holds herself to a higher standard as somebody who's professional, mature and beyond such frivolties, and she repeats it often enough that she managed to convince herself as well. What can be misconstrued as an uneasy forced smile from outside is actually her doing her best to keep her giddiness in check and to try not make a big deal out of being in costume.

Captain Marvel, new Den-Mother (despite the fact he himself is a child even if the league isn’t aware of that fact) for the Young Justice team blinks. Klarion, so-called chaos lord, blinks back in the middle of a spell.

He tilts his head. The other baby realms-being mirrors him. His own magic-fueled core pulses, and a chaos-core vibrates back. Oh. Ah. So that’s what’s happening.

“They can’t play right now,” he explains to the barely-younger ancient-in-training, ignoring the team’s incredulous looks at his words with the practice of someone who had to deal with the voices of gods all the time. And Batman’s narrowing eyes. Scary.

The chaos-core thrums in a distinct pouting-sensation, alongside a whine unique to young ghostlings. A whine that he replied with, even if only they could hear. Come play later, busy now, he insisted again, even if Klarion’s pouting was turning visible before it shifted to a scowl.

“Fiiine…” And then the chaosling was gone, his familiar with him. Billy really wished he could join in disappearing, seeing the info-hungry look in the others’ eyes.

I've been getting a lot of witches coming at me for the fact I celebrate Christmas with my family. Not here but after this post I'm sure it will come.

But let me tell you something.

I have a 7 year old who goes to public school. He knows I and his other parent celebrate Yule. He has expressed interest in practicing witchcraft. We are doinf this with him. Teaching him the basics and answering any questions he has. He's also expressed that while he understands that Yule and Christmas are similar he feels left out when his friends talk about Christmas, he feels like he's missing out. His first question was "we can't celebrate Christmas because we don't believe in that right?". You know what I said?

"That's not true! We can celebrate it secularly. We can celebrate being with family and being good and kind to others. It does not have to be religious for us!" So that's exactly what we do. We celebrate Yule as a sacred day and Christmas secularly so my kiddo gets to experience that and not feel like the odd one out. Maybe one day he'll decide he just wants to celebrate Yule, but until then, we do both and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It doesn't make us any less witches for it.
