Notes: Here we go! The little SubScorp week bonus! Shorter than everything else, but I came up with this cute idea and HAD to write it!
There was a mystery occurring in the Fire Gardens.
For a few months now, Hanzo would occasionally come across small crochet animals, hidden away in obscure but still easily findable places. The animals ranged in species and design, although the size of them was always roughly the same. It was clear the person making and hiding them intended them to be found but for why he didn’t understand.
Initially he was just extremely confused. It was harmless enough but he couldn’t wrap his head around any possible reason.
Then the children of the Shirai Ryu got wind of it.
It started to become a collecting game for them, who could find and keep the most of these little animals. It even became a status symbol to have a particularly rare animal. There were plenty of little bears, but not everyone had a penguin or an octopus. The children were extremely jealous of Hanzo when he stumbled upon a little scorpion toy hidden in between a weapons rack. It was apparently the only scorpion, but the children let Hanzo keep it, because he had found it fair and square and those were the rules they had come to agreement of.
Hanzo hated to admit he was glad because he actually really liked his little scorpion.
Still none of this explained who was doing it, and why. The children had no idea, none of their parents knew, and none of his higher ups seemed to even know what he was talking about. The only person who eluded to knowing something was Takeda, but even then it wasn’t him. New animals were showing up at times he was no where near the Fire Gardens. Whatever he knew however, he was being tight lipped about it.
Hanzo was determined to find the mastermind behind this scheme.
He began to take note of when new ones would appear and where. He had a notebook with dates, and made sure to keep track of where they had been placed. Next, he began to cross-examine these dates in combination with his own diary, and noticed a very interesting correlation.
The appearance of new animals seemed to coincide with visits from Kuai Liang.
Hanzo didn’t know for sure, but he knew he had to try and catch Kuai in the act. There was a spot behind a bridge that seemed to be a favoured hiding spot. So the next time Kuai was at the Fire Gardens, he excused himself for important business, and then lay in wait a little way from the spot. He wasn’t sure how much time passed, and he was starting to think maybe he’d gotten it wrong.
Until he noticed Kuai creeping out across the path and towards the bridge.
He stopped at the spot, looked around for a bit like he was trying to make sure no one was looking. And then, from his pocket he pulled out a small blue crocheted cat.
Got you!
Hanzo moved out into the open, approaching just in time for Kuai to place the cat in it’s hiding spot. Kuai didn’t notice him until Hanzo coughed to get his attention. Or at least, Hanzo hadn’t thought Kuai had noticed, but he reconsidered that when Kuai turned his head to him with a sly smile on his face.
“So, you finally figured it out?” Kuai asked standing up and crossing his arms over his chest.
“I will concede you were elusive.” Hanzo picked up the cat and observed it. It was cute, he had to admit. “Are there more?”
Kuai reached for Hanzo’s wrist to guide him to put the cat back down. He then took Hanzo by the hand and led him back through the gardens and back inside. When they went inside Hanzo’s quarters, Kuai finally let go of Hanzo’s hand and walked over to where his suitcases were. He pulled out a small bag, and when he unzipped it, a small collection of various animals started to pop out.
“Did you make them?” Hanzo asked, reaching down to pull out a small pink octopus. There was one little girl who was clambering for an octopus and loved the colour pink, she would be so happy if she got her hands on this one. Kuai hummed in acknowledgment of his question. “You’ve never mentioned getting into crochet.”
“Cassandra decided I needed a hobby that wasn’t combat related or physically active,” Kuai explained, slowly pulling out more of the animals. “We tried a variety of different crafts, but somehow crochet was the one that stuck.” He picked up a small purple and blue racoon, popping it on his own shoulder. “I didn’t mention it at first because I wanted to get better and surprise you with a scarf or something, but then I got really into the animals and the idea of hiding them around here got planted into my mind, so…”
“Okay, so, why did you decide to hide them?” Hanzo questioned, picking up a red and orange tiger and putting it on top of Kuai’s head.
Kuai looked amused by the action before saying “well, admittedly at first it was because your face when your confused by something is really cute.”
“So you did it to annoy me,” Hanzo summerised, picking up a bear and also putting it on Kuai’s head as payback for putting Hanzo through months of unanswered questions.
“Aw, I know you like them really~” Kuai teased, getting his own back by picking up the octopus and balancing it on Hanzo’s head. Hanzo tried to give him the best unimpressed look he could muster, but the way Kuai bit his lip seemed to imply he did not believe Hanzo disliked the animals. “What about Pinchy over there?” Kuai carefully pointed in the direction of the crochet scorpion and Hanzo scoffed.
“Firstly, his name is Nobutoshi. Secondly-“ Hanzo paused, realising what the first thing he said was, and the triumphant grin on Kuai’s face. “I am not going to be able to argue against me liking them when I’ve named the one I own, am I?”
“Nope~” Kuai practically sang, knowing he had won. “Anyway, that is how it started, but when the children started finding them, I saw how happy it made them.” Kuai stuck his tongue out as he carefully placed a penguin on Hanzo’s head. “Every time I see them comparing their collections or going out hunting for them, it makes my day.”
Hanzo couldn’t disagree with that, the kids really did love these things. This life was draining sometimes, and it could be hard to see the good things in between all the bad. But seeing something so small bring the children of the Shirai Ryu so much joy was definitely one of those good things.
“Well, I suppose they would be upset if they suddenly stopped appearing one day.” Hanzo felt justified by the way Kuai’s grin grew wider, understanding Hanzo’s subtle permission to continue the game. “That said I think you definitely need to add another scorpion to the army, I fear for Nobutoshi’s safety.”
“Noted, I’ll add another to my todo list.” Kuai finally went to pluck the animals from his head and shoulder, carefully putting them back inside his bag. He then finally removed the ones from Hanzo’s head, before asking, “do you want to help me hide them?”
“Well, if you insist.” He picked up the octopus again and smiled, knowing exactly where he was going to hide this one. There was a spot that the little girl he’d believed would like it checked religiously and was always the first to check there. He couldn’t wait to see her reaction when she found it waiting for her.

So, tbh, I know not that many people interact with my account right now, and I’m cool with that. I’m cool with tumblr being the place where I just talk about whatever and maybe a few people will see it and respond to what I say. Better than wasting my energy somewhere else. This feels like a semipublic diary for me where I can just dump whatever I’m feeling atm and not be worried that my real life acquaintances are gonna ask me what’s up and try to be nosy, nor do I expect people to respond and then get upset and disappointed when they ignore me.
Im chill with sharing with several random strangers. That’s cool with me.
That being said, I’m remembering The Batman that came out earlier this year (2022) and I haven’t put much thought to it in a while until just now when I was watching a video about fan theories for the coming film(s) in this new more modernised version of Batman. And I have a few theories of my own that I low-key just wanna get out of my system and into the hands of people who might feel the same because I never get to talk about this stuff! :)
(this is gonna be a long post, so buckle up)
Potential Spoilers if you haven’t seen The Batman(2022)
I think Bruce should go to therapy, and I think it should be an important plot point, rather than just some comment in a passing conversation with Alfred or something. Bruce can then both learn to get over his crush/possible future obsession with Selena (catwoman) after she leaves at the end of the film, as well as work on his social skills. It might lead to him meeting a new love interest in a public setting and just generally coming out of his shell more and becoming the Bruce Wayne everyone is more used to. Maybe Bruce will even confesses to them that he's batman and it becomes a whole thing later on.
Harvey Dent HAS to be featured in the future. I even thought he would be introduced IN the first movie after the District Attorney was killed by Paul dano✨, (either we would meet him or he would be mentioned but not featured yet) I even whispered to my sister in the theatre that there's no way they ARENT setting up for harvey dent after that.
I WILL DIE IF SCARECROW IS NOT IN ONE OF THE COMING FILMS. I think he is SUCH AN AMAZING VILLAIN- and biases aside, I think he fits really well into the creepy, gritty, and complex universe that Matt Reeves is creating. Especially with his Fear Toxin/Fear Gas, we can have so many interesting scenes breaking down Bruce's mind and making him face his past in a film that may be about him trying to heal and change into a person he's more proud of (✨character development✨, we love to see it). Bonus points if bruce's therapist, mentioned earlier, is working for or is connected to scarecrow in some way.
I think Penguin will have a larger role in the coming film(s) than he did in the first, making him more of an actual villainous threat and less of an annoyance and obstical for batman to face when trying to reach the real threat. I just think he didn't reach his full villain potential in the first film and I think they could do soo much more with his character going forward. Maybe they did that on purpose and he really wont be much of a threat going forward, but the foreshadowing they did at the end of the movie (if you saw it, you know what I mean) was undeniable.
It's already been confirmed by Reeves that the joker does (unfortunately) exist in this version of batman. He's featured breifly in that one scene(again if you saw the film, you know what I’m referring to), and it was a secret at first who this character was but then it was later confirmed to be the joker. It's not that bad but we all know that audiences are immediately going to compare him to the previous jokers (Leto, Phoenix, and especially Ledger) and I'm afraid that'll take away from the film and it's story and plot (in the sense that audiences will be more focused on the joker than they will any other potential villains and the overall character development that bruce is having). It would have been refreshing to have a batman film trilogy without the joker as a character (personally I think the joker role is cursed for whoever dares try to portray the character but that's unrelated), but audiences would be ✨absolutely pissed to shit✨ if there was no joker/no mention of him. It would be hilarious if the cameo happened at the end of the first film and then nothing happened with it afterward, that would make me cackle. But maybe the joker won't even be in the second film. Maybe they'll save him for a third, or whenever some big final fight will be and I think that's a good plan.
And lastly, I might be ridiculous for this/I might be the only person who wants this, but I NEED the Arkham Asylum to be PROPERLY FEATURED in any upcoming films. Either it's visited during a scene and we get an IN-DEPTH and DETAILED VIEW of it and all the characters there, or the second or possible third film is all about it. I love the Arkham Asylum graphic novel, and I just wish we had more content about it outside of comics and the video games. It fits the creepy, gritty vibe, it's a cool place for a final fight/large threat to take place, and it'll introduce a lot of fan favourite characters and villains (a cameo from harleen quinzel, for example). It'll be a good place for that scarecrow content to happen, as well as open doors to other character features. **I'm also lowkey tired of Arkham just being mentioned and like one hallway and maybe a couple rooms are featured and that's it. I'm calling for justice for the arkham asylum because we deserve that sweet creepy content.

Elite is so bingable it’s kinda gossip girl but with murder. It’s a Spanish Netflix show that I’m watching dubbed in English and it’s awesome I can’t put it down. Every season there is a crime that starts the season and then from there you get flashes of what took place that night throughout the 8 episode season. I wish there was more episodes per season. This season is the mystery of what happened to Ari to put her in a coma and to have lost some of her memory when she wakes to couple drama. This one guy named Anders had cancer and his boyfriend Omar took care of him everyday they love each other, they live together, and Anders just broke up with Omar and maybe at most a day and a half later he’s having sex with my favorite character Patrick. These two other guys are have a dick measuring contest to see which one is more deserving of Ari.
Patrick is my favorite character, he is mischievous and knows what he wants and doesn’t stop until he gets it. He is very sexual and hot. He’s had a threesome, broke up a relationship, slept with both people in that relationship while they were still in that relationship and now slept with the person in that relationship right after they called it quits. Patrick has two sisters a twin named Ari and a younger sister named Mencia. There was an car accident when he was younger that killed his mom instantly and he was bedridden for two years. They’ve only mentioned what happen but I hope they show us a flashback and I think in the Patrick special they do show us what happened. Their father Benjamin is a douche I understand his wife died leaving him with three children but he doesn’t even seem to love his children. Mencia turns to prostitution to raise enough money to move out. From what they’ve shown it doesn’t look like he and Patrick have a relationship, the only one he depends on and asks to do stuff is Ari. The one fatherly moment I saw between Benjamin and Patrick was when they were at the hospital and Ari was in the coma. Patrick put his head against the glass and Benjamin asked him if he was ok. Next season Patrick finds love but it’s complicated excited for that.
Prince Phillip I don’t know how I feel about him. He likes a girl the girl likes him they flirt they have fun together and when they have sex he records it without her knowledge and when she finds out he tells it security reasons I was once accused of something now I record all my interactions. He tries to make it up to her by buying out a restaurant and being her server instead of her cleaning up after people as a janitor she is being waited on by him. They were gaining their trust of each other back and she googled what he was accused of and there were zero articles about it. She got caught on his laptop and the trust is now broken again. Their problems aside they are a cute couple they love fashion and he doesn’t care that she is janitor when she found out that he was coming to the school she was thrilled and excited to meet him. I know this sounds like a older younger woman young man but they are close in age.
I didn’t talk about everyone in the show but these are ones I’m watching it for. I love this show.

Patrick and Ivan from elite are cute together. Ivan annoys me sometimes but other then that they are cute together. Every scene they are in you can see Patrick is head over heels in love with Ivan and it’s adorable.
The other part of me the shipper in me and maybe because Ivan does annoy me sometimes. I wish and love Patrick and Phillipe I wish they were a couple or had more scenes together.

After seeing @that-bi-multifandom-mess posts of magneto family that are awesome I love them. I was inspired and came up with a magneto family idea:
Wanda is looking for Billy and Tommy and stumbles into the x men universe. Magneto finds her and brings her to his mutant refugee home. Wanda let’s it slip that her last name is maximoff and Erik already knows Peter maximoff is his son. So another maximoff would be his daughter and her children would be his grandchildren. When they go to Charles to use cerebro to find Billy and Tommy they also find Lorna who is currently imprisoned in a glass cell. Wanda goes to get Lorna, Erik goes to get Peter and then the family reunited go to get Billy and Tommy.

My #1 post of 2022
After watching fate season 2 and loving riven and Musa. Plus last night I watched overdrive which has the actor who plays Riven in it. He was my favorite part of the movie. I came up with this one shot. For my rivusa sister @misssophiachase
Riven ducks as Musa’ Bo staff tries to hit him. They are sparring with each other and have been for the past nine months. As she spins the staff around her he grabs it and holds it behind his back. Riven jumps and spins as she tries to lunge at him. He tries to kick her and she jumps back unfortunately she didn’t realize how close she was to the edge and almost falls into the water. Riven catches her their hands holding on each other’s wrists. As he pulls her back onto the mat they stay connected their eyes never leaving each other’s. His thumb starts to brush over her wrist. She smiles up at him. His eyes go to her lips. “The suite is empty.”
The suite doors open and they stumble inside. Their lips connects hands frantically removing pieces of their training gear. His vest falls to the ground along with her puffer cropped vest.
Riven is walking backwards as they continue to kiss to her bedroom. He does fall into a chair bringing her down with him. “The great specialist can’t avoid a chair?”
“Shut up pixie.” He reaches up to continue kissing her but she leans back. “We don’t know when they will be back, do you really want to add fuel to Terra’s hatred of you finding us in the living room.”
Musa gets up and starts walking to her bedroom but Riven picks her up from behind she can’t help it and lets out a squeal. When she is with Riven she is not overwhelmed with emotions or feelings. He quiets them and brings her out of her head. He is the only one at this school who really sees her and was really there when she lost her magic. Everyone else tried to immediately get her powers back. He listened to her.
As soon as he puts her down in the middle of the room, it’s a race to get their clothes off. They don’t know how much time they have so they will use every moment of it. It’s only after their clothes are off do either of them remember that she still has the power dampening bracelets on. He looks down at them then up at her and she nods. He picks her up by the thighs and she wraps her legs around his waist her arms going around his neck, she leans down and kisses him. For other fairies these bracelets are painful and humiliating but for Musa they are a gift. She doesn’t have to feel everything she can be in the moment. Riven knows how much she struggled with her powers and even after they came back he noticed she was not happy they were back and was having a hard time. So when he gave her the bracelets so she could focus on the fighting part then on the fairy part. She is so much more then just a fairy is also a specialist in training.
Since they starting sneaking around sparring has become their foreplay so any touch on the field is just hyping them up even more. Finding an area is not easy the suite is usually filled, and the few times it wasn’t Terra almost caught them luckily they heard the door and Musa could feel her emotions and Riven was shoved in the closet just as Terra came in unfortunately she complained about Riven and how he is a terrible person and she does not get how someone like Flora could be friends with him. Or why she has found Musa sparring with him. Musa didn’t need to be an empath to feel the annoyance vibes in that room she put a hand on the closet door keeping it closed. She defended him telling Terra that he is not a terrible person and that she knows he is capable of a lot she can feel it. Sky walked in on them a couple times when they were in his and Riven’s room. Sky didn’t pay them any attention and just came into grab something. They tried different places in the school but Musa could still feel people plus it was very dirty and damp.
Musa moans as she can feel Riven inside she doesn’t need the bracelets to know he feels calm and happy. The smile on his face and the glint in his eye says it all as he slides his fingers through her hair as he thrusts into his little fairy specialist.
Musa is different, Riven has always been this cocky dick but around Musa he finds himself smiling and being more open. That day Musa got stuck in the track thanks to Terra. He could of and was supposed to run with the rest of the specialists. Instead he sat down next to her and made sure their bags were in front of Musa’s legs so nobody saw anything. He choose to sit with her instead of training. The night they went to rescue Beatrix his only concern was Musa. He didn’t want her to get hurt, when he realized that she was still inside he was worried she put her trust in him coming with them and he wasn’t going to let her down by not making sure she got out too. By the time he got outside with Musa everyone had already left. He walked her blooded weak body back during the whole walk back he kept making sure she was breathing and had a pulse it weak from the blood loss. By the time he got back to the school his legs were shaking he was so worried about her.
Riven grunts when he feels her lips on his neck and and the little nibble on his ear. His fingers grip her hair gently but still a little rough and he feels her body mold to his as her nails scrap down his back resulting in him arching his back. He leans down and kisses her. Her lips part and their tongues start to battle. Musa puts a hand on his chest and looks towards the door she thought she heard something. It was nothing. Her fingers wrap around his neck bringing his head down to kiss him. She bites his lower lip and swallows the groan he makes.
They were pent up from training but also it’s tough for them to find time alone. They found a release quickly he leaves a kiss on her neck right below her ear. Riven flips them and wraps his arms around Musa laying on his smooth chest. Musa leaves a kiss on his neck.
The secret they share of how Musa gave her powers up that night created this intimate bond with them. That developed into a friendship. Even after she got her powers back they were friends and continued to hang out. They took it further becoming a couple they get each other on a different level. Not only do they train together but he does try to help her with her powers. A couple weeks after she got them back she tried to block everyone out and focus on him it wasn’t a success. She helps him too with her he feels less alone. Besides Sky he can only rely on Musa she hasn’t betrayed him like everyone else has.
Musa gets off him and grabs his long sleeve hooded shirt he wears to train. He watches as she puts it on. “I’m going to need that back. Silva is picky about the specialist dress code.”
She chuckles as she bends down and pecks him on the lips,”Then I should go grab your vest in the main room.” He chuckles as he stretches and rolls onto his back looking up at the ceiling.
Musa picks up both vests and as she is going back to her room Terra and Stella come through the door. They both look the mind fairy up and down Stella raises an eyebrow but doesn’t say anything just goes to her room. Terra on the other hand questions it. “What are you wearing?”
She looks down at Riven’s shirt on her she doesn’t have pants on either she did put a black bra and panties on. “Silva finally gave me a specialist uniform it’s a little big I’ll have to ask him for a new one.”
Terra starts heading to her and Musa’s room but Musa says loudly. “Terra! Flora wanted to show you something I think she’s in her room.”
One last glance at her roommate Terra heads to Flora and Stellas’s room. Musa rushes to her room and finds Riven standing near the closet with only his pants and shoes on. Musa taking his shirt off throwing it at him as she goes over to the window and opens it. “You have got to be kidding me.”
As she pulls on a pair of leggings she tells him. “Do you want to explain this to Terra when she sees you leaving. I know I don’t want to hear or feel the disgust that you have been in her room she doesn’t even like you in the greenhouse or talking to her friends let alone dating one.”
Riven rolls his eyes and shakes his head this is ridiculous Terra’s hatred of him is interfering with his relationship. He doesn’t like her either but still he would rather walk out the front door instead of scaling the side of the building to get down. He gets half out of the window and looks back at Musa who is watching the door. “Come here.”
Musa goes over to him and he pulls her closer to him and cups her cheek as he leaves one last kiss on her lips she deepens the kiss putting her arms around his neck pulling him closer making him chuckle in the kiss.
The sound of the doorknob interrupts them and he quickly tells her. “My room next time.” Then he’s gone. Terra comes in and notices the window open, Musa smiling and touching her lips, but she also sees the bracelets on Musa’s arms.
“Oh my god Musa Riven is making you wear those bracelet, he is a terrible person why do you even train with him?”
Musa grabs a sweatshirt putting it on. “Riven is not making me do anything, he’s not as terrible as you make him out to be. Silva wants me to wear these during training so I don’t have an unfair advantage against my partner.” Which is a lie Musa wanted to wear them Riven got them for her but it was her idea.
Before Terra can voice another option Musa says. “I’m going to go train.”
When she left the suite she was going to walk around but she found herself at the wall outside her room. “Wow your slow should you really be teaching me to be a specialist. No offense.”
He jumps down off the wall and towers over her. He leans down to tell her. “ I’m sure no other specialist will give you the same special treatment you require no offense.”
She laughs and pushes his shoulder. He adds. “Plus there was no urgency to climbing down that wall, now if I was climbing up the wall…”Riven raises his eyebrows teasingly she looks impressed and raises an eyebrow.

2022 Russian Literature Reads
Finished: 17 books
TRANSLATING GREAT RUSSIAN LITERATURE by Cathy McAteer. A look at the translators with Penguin books from the mid 1900s to about 2000.
ROADSIDE PICNIC by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky . Not sure of translator. A sci-fi classic that left me wanting more.
THE QUEUE by V Sorokin. This may have worked in Russian or it may have been good had one lived in the Soviet Union, but falls flat to me.
WOE FROM WHIT: A verse comedy in four acts by Griboyedov (translated by Betsy Hulick). A reported classic whose quips have infiltrated the Russian language. Like most poetry much is lost in translation and my lack of knowledge of Russian hinders my appreciation.
A RED FLOWER by V Garshin at least my second reading.
THE ADOLESCENT by Dostoevsky My second read of a new translation. Did it with the r/Dostoevsky reading group
MY LIFE by Leon Trotsky. Typical autobiography (ie I did nothing wrong)
AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A CORPSE by Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky, translated by J Turnbull. Collection of short stories. I gave 4 stars on goodreads (I try to make 5 stars very rare).
TOLSTOY, RASPUTIN, OTHERS AND ME by Teffi. Meh
WHAT IS ART? by Leo Tolstoy, translated by Aylmer Maude. A one star read-finished just because who the author was.
ENVY by Yury Olesha. at best meh. At least my second read.
TIME OF TROUBLES: The Diary of Iurri Vladimirovich Got'e. Surprisingly very interesting. Four stars.
ONE DAY IN THE LIFE OF IVAN DENISOVICH by Solzhenitsyn. I love Solzhenitsyn, but not this book to be honest. Second or third re-read.
A HERO OF OUR TIME by Mikhail Lermontov, translated by Nabokov(s). Excellent as long as you don't try to make the parts a coherent story, but as sketches of a protagonist.
SOLZHENITSYN, TVARDOVSKY, AND NOVY MIR by Vladimir Lakshin. Background to an Solzhenitsyn and his literary battles and a testament to his larger than life ego. I got it free from a nephew who knew I like Solzhenitsyn. Not one to re-read.
CRIME AND PUNISHMENT: A new translation by Dostoevsky, translated by Michael Katz. Excellent. First re-read of C&P. Been 15 plus years (too long!)
Current readings/unfinished:
WHAT IS TO BE DONE? by Chernyshevsky, translated by M. Katz. Good background on the 19th century ideas and relates to or reacts to Turgenev and Dostoevsky. Half way done and I am not impressed. To be honest I am disgusted with the implications of his philosophies and may DNF this one.
MARCH 1917: THE RED WHEEL, NODE III, BOOK 3 by Solzhenitsyn, translated by Marian Schwartz. Probably will not finish before the year ends. A continuation of the excellent (IMO) Red Wheel epic on the Russian revolution. See earlier post
DOSTOEVSKY: THE SEEDS OF REVOLT, 1821-1849 by Joseph Frank. Long way to go with this one, but good through the first 100 pages or so.

With WBD deep in the midst of massive changes to the way the company runs, it seems as though no previously announced DC project is safe from cancellation The Vampire Diaries Damon’s Bourban shirt . Following the shocking news regarding Batgirl's axing, multiple other TV shows and movies have hit the chopping block, and there are even rumors that next year's The Flash could never see the light of day due to the Ezra Miller situation. While The Batman 2 appears to be safe from that fate, for now, it's still disappointing to see that Pattinson and Reeves will have to wait to return to their Batman universe for some time. With nothing on the schedule after Joker: Folie a Deux arrives in October 2024, it could be a while until anything official is confirmed for this new version of the caped crusader. This delay will probably push The Batman 2's release as far as two years out, meaning it might not release until late 2024 or even early 2025. As the schedule becomes more open for Warner Bros. with so many different cancelations and delays, it certainly brings some concern regarding when fans may see the follow-up to one of the most celebrated superhero movies of 2022. The Batman is now available for home viewing, while The Batman 2 is still waiting for the official green light from Warner Bros. Discovery.

Upcoming DC Movies: Complete Release Calendar

The DC Extended Universe is in full swing! With a healthy schedule of upcoming DC movies in development, the DCEU isn’t going away anytime soon, and there’s still lots to look forward to.
So, it’s time to take a look at all of the DCEU superhero movies that will be released over the next few years. And trust us, there are a ton of them on the way, and we expect more details will be announced as we go forward. We have all the release dates for every one of ’em right here, as well as official details, the most interesting rumors, and suggestions for further reading where appropriate.
Thanks to HBO Max, Suicide Squad 2 is on schedule for August 2021, with The Batman, Shazam 2, Aquaman 2, and more due in 2022. There’s a bright future for the newly revitalized DCEU movies!
Here’s how this works, because the schedule is getting a little weird. We’re starting with the DCEU movies that officially have release dates attached to them. Then we’ll get into the stuff that we know for 100% certain is in development, but that don’t have release dates yet. Then we’ll get into some of the long shots, the projects that are announced but quiet or seemingly dead, at the bottom.
Keep in mind that many of these are the CURRENT release dates as of this update, and all of these are subject to change. We’ll keep updating this with more information as we get it…

Suicide Squad 2

David Ayer going to be too busy with other projects until further notice, and none other than James Gunn (of Guardians of the Galaxy fame) has stepped in to write and direct Suicide Squad 2. This is now called The Suicide Squad, which indicates something of a soft reboot, but expect this to remain a DCEU movie.
The cast is positively bonkers.
Returning from the first film we have Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, and of course Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn Scheduling issues forced Will Smith to bow out of the project as Deadshot.
But then that new cast is wild! John Cena is Peacemaker, with Idris Elba as Bloodsport, David Dastmalchian will play Polka Dot Man. Daniela Melchor will play a genderswapped version of Batman villain Ratcatcher…and there’s more, including Sylvester Stallone as the voice of King Shark! We have a full breakdown of the cast right here.
Pandemic be damned, this one arrives on HBO Max AND in theaters simultaneously, so that August release date isn’t going anywhere.
The Batman

So, speaking of movies that had their release dates shifted because of the coronavirus pandemic, The Batman recently had to move from June to October of 2021 after its filming was put on hold fairly early on, and now it has had to vacate its October release slot for March of the following year, thanks to the aforementioned Dune reschedule, and also another production halt after star Robert Pattinson was diagnosed with Covid-19. Fortunately, principal photography has wrapped and this is now well on its way to meeting that release date!
The Batman solo movie has Matt Reeves as director. Robert Pattinson is the new Batman. Not only that, this movie will likely kick off a brand new trilogy of Batman movies. Expect a more low-key, detective focused approach to the Dark Knight than we’ve seen in previous movies.

Black Adam Powers and Abilities Explained

This is the kind of thing that could work as a nifty prequel to further flesh out the mystical world of Shazam if they choose to go that route. More importantly, this movie will feature the DCEU introduction of the Justice Society of America, including Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher!
We’re currently on the lookout for more info, but Black Adam is supposed to start filming in early 2021, which seems unlikely at this time because of the global coronavirus pandemic. This film had been scheduled for December of 2021, but lost that date with all of WB’s recent release date shuffles. It’ll happen, it’s just a question of when.

Crisis On Infinite Earths Confirms DCEU Movies With Ezra Miller Cameo

Ezra Miller will reprise his Justice League role as Barry Allen. Kiersey Clemons is Iris West. Ron Livingston will play Barry’s father, Dr. Henry Allen (replacing Billy Crudup who played the role in Justice League). But here’s where things get crazy…Ben Affleck will return to the role of Batman for this movie. And Michael Keaton will ALSO return to the role of Batman for this movie!
How is this possible? Because it’s based on the DC Comics Flashpoint story, which for the purposes of the movies will be used to create a big screen multiverse. Wow.
Oh, and it that’s not enough, this movie will introduce Supergirl to the DCEU, played by Sarah Calle!
This movie has had an extraordinary amount of trouble getting off the ground, so let’s see if the combination of Muschietti and Hodson keep this one on schedule for that release date. Or any release date. But pre-production is well underway, so it looks like Ezra Miller’s Barry will finally get his day in the sun.
Aquaman 2

After it made a billion dollars at the box office, you bet your trident that Aquaman 2 is happening! Right now the plan is for James Wan to remain involved and start developing the movie, but he won’t decide whether or not to direct it until there’s a script in place. Fair enough. Patrick Wilson seems set to return, though, and of course, Jason Momoa will be back.

Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods

Shazam 2 is now officially called Shazam: Fury of the Gods and…that’s about all we know about it right now.
One thing is for sure, though, this movie will retain the look, feel, and charm that made the first one so successful, since both director David F. Sandberg and writer Henry Gayden are returning. And this time we’ll have an entire Shazam family to help out!
Wait…did we mention the Sinbad cameo? No, really!
Now, let’s get into the projects that are in the works, but don’t have release dates yet. We’ve grouped these roughly in the order we expect to see them based on how far along they are.
Blue Beetle
There’s a Blue Beetle movie in the works. And unlike the character potentially appearing in the Booster Gold movie (more on that down below), this one would focus on Jaime Reyes, the magical tech powered teenage hero who wields the scarab of original Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala) is writing the script, with Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) directing.
There’s no release date yet, but this is scheduled to begin production in fall 2021, so maybe we can pencil in a 2023 release date.

Untitled Superman Project
Ta-Nehisi Coates is working on a Superman feature film with J.J. Abrams producing. No other info is currently available, but it appears to be a reboot.
“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” Coates told Shadow and Act when the news was announced. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”
Will this continue Henry Cavill’s time in the role, or will it take a new approach? Will this be a completely different take on the Man of Steel altogether? Time will tell!
Zatanna
One of the most powerful magicians in the DC Universe is getting her own film, with a powerful writer attached. Emerald Fennell, who wrote and directed the brilliant Promising Young Woman has signed on to write a Zatanna movie for Warner Bros. No other details are available at this time, but you don’t sign an Oscar hopeful for a movie like this unless you’re serious about getting it moving.
The New Gods
Ava DuVernay will direct a movie based on Jack Kirby‘s New Gods. It’s not clear yet whether this will fit into the continuity of the other DCEU movies, but really, it doesn’t need to. The New Gods is a cosmic story of such incredible scale that there’s no reason to try and connect this to earthbound concerns. Tom King, the DC Comics writer who has made waves with his work on the New Gods-centric (and Eisner Award-winning) Mister Miracle series, is co-writing the screenplay with DuVernay.
The New Gods is the story of two worlds, the warlike Apokolips and the peaceful New Genesis, each populated by immensely powerful beings with fantastic technology. Darkseid is the evil dictator of Apokolips, and he swaps sons with Highfather, the leader of New Genesis, and each child is raised on the opposite world. Darkseid’s son, Orion, becomes a troubled champion of New Genesis, while Highfather’s son (raised by Darkseid) revolts and becomes the super escape artist, Mister Miracle. This barely scratches the surface of what this movie is about. We tried to get into more detail about it here.
The Trench
Aquaman director James Wan and producer Peter Safran are working on developing other corners of Arthur’s world in addition to Aquaman 2. The Trench will focus on the terrifying piranha-like beasts seen briefly in the first film, and will be a smaller-scale, more horror-focused movie, and one that won��t feature any of the main characters from Aquaman. A different approach to superhero movie worldbuilding, for sure. Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald are writing.

Supergirl
Oren Uziel is working on a script for a Supergirl movie. It’s not clear what kind of ties this will have to the currently dead Man of Steel franchise, especially given the uncertain state of Henry Cavill’s future as Superman.
But one thing is for sure, the DCEU does have their Supergirl! Sasha Calle will be introduced as Kara in The Flash movie, and presumably she’ll lead this one, as well.
Green Lantern Corps
Fairly or unfairly, Green Lantern has the most working against him. The 2011 film failed to kickstart the DC Universe as planned, and received a lukewarm (at best) critical and box-office reception. There are, of course, ways around this.

New Green Lantern Series Expands Cosmic DC Universe

One way is to simply not make Hal Jordan the central Green Lantern of the movie. Thisone may focus on as many as three Green Lanterns, with the main focus on a kind of buddy/cop movie with John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Geoff Johns is writing the script, but there’s no director in place yet, however Johns should be turning in his script soon and that will allow the director search to kick off in earnest. There’s also the recent announcement of an HBO Max Green Lantern TV show to consider. It remains to be seen what (if any) connection that will have to this movie.

Plastic Man
This one is a little further off in the future as all they’ve done is hire a writer. But there is definitely a Plastic Man movie in the works, with Amanda Idoko (ABC’s The Mayor) working on a screenplay. We have some more details on it right here.
Blackhawk
Steven Spielberg has long wanted to make a Blackhawk movie, and he’s finally going to get his wish. And if it was your wish to see Steven Spielberg direct a DC movie, you’re also in luck. David Koepp is writing the screenplay. We have more details on this one here.
Batgirl
Joss Whedon was originally supposed to write, direct, and produce the Batgirl movie, one that was reportedly based on Gail Simone’s recent New 52 take on the character. He has exited the project and now Christina Hodson is writing. There is no director at the time of this writing, and rumor has it that this will be a project set to go direct to HBO Max.
Deathstroke
Joe Manganiello has long been cast as Slade Wilson, known to DC fans as Deathstroke. He even made a cameo in one of the Justice League theatrical post-credits scenes back when that was supposed to set up a Justice League 2 that never happened. But it turns out that the original version of that cameo in Zack Snyder’s Justice League was meant to set him up as the villain of The Batman solo movie (that is no longer the case),
Deathstroke was also once set to get a solo film, written and directed by The Raid‘s Gareth Evans. Despite Manganiello returning for a brief scene as Deathstroke in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it doesn’t seem likely that his solo film is happening anymore, which is a real shame as he would have been great in the role.
Justice League 2
Justice League 2 isn’t likely to happen at the moment given how the first film underperformed at the box office. It once had a release date, but that long since evaporated. Still, “The Snyder Cut” generated considerable buzz on HBO Max, and featured a teaser scene that was very much meant as a preview for what the director was looking for in his dark vision of Justice League 2.
Nightwing
The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay has been tapped to direct a Nightwing movie. Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) is working on a script. No other details are currently available, and this one doesn’t have a release date yet.
Justice League Dark
At one time this was called Dark Universe, until Universal came along and ruined that name with their failed horror movie shared franchise. This one will feature the supernatural characters from the DC Universe. Characters like Swamp Thing, Demon, Deadman, Zatanna, and even John Constantine.
Guillermo del Toro was attached to this one for quite some time, but had to leave the project. Then it was Doug Liman. Now J.J. Abrams is involved as producer for what will likely be an HBO Max series.
And now for the long shots…projects mentioned, rumored, or that haven’t had any movement in a while.
Man of Steel 2
Never officially announced, with no director or writer ever attached…another solo Superman movie starring Henry Cavill seems pretty unlikely at the moment. Especially considering that Henry Cavill appears to be finished as Superman, there’s an excellent Superman & Lois TV series on the air, and the aforementioned movie in the works from Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Cyborg
OK, to be perfectly honest, the Cyborg movie almost certainly isn’t happening. Ray Fisher made his first (very brief) appearance as Vic Stone/Cyborg in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and played a crucial role in Justice League. At one point he was supposed to feature in The Flash solo movie, too, but it’s not clear if that’s still the case.

Basically, though…let’s be completely real: this movie isn’t happening. There hasn’t been any movement on it in years, despite once having been assigned an April 3, 2020 release date. As far as we can tell there has been no additional movement on this movie in years. It’s probably dead. Too bad, since Ray Fisher was great in the role.
Harley Quinn
Yes, there’s also another Harley Quinn movie in development! Well, at least there was at one point. Whether this is a solo project or something else remains to be seen. Keep in mind that while very good, Birds of Prey didn’t set the world on fire at the box office, which means that Warner Bros. might be a little more wary than before about additional solo projects for Harley, even with Margot Robbie’s star power. As for what shape this movie was supposed to take in the first place, your guess is as good as ours!
Gotham City Sirens
David Ayer is looking to direct a Harley Quinn and friends “girl gang” movie. Geneva Robertson-Dworet is writing, with Margot Robbie producing. It’s not clear where this stands on anybody’s priority list these days. Ayer has moved on to other projects, and as mentioned above, Birds of Prey wasn’t quite the financial success that Warner Bros. had hoped for. It’s possible that Gotham City Sirens has been put in a drawer for the time being.
Booster Gold
Flash and Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti is going to executive produce and possibly direct a Booster Gold movie. Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class) will write the script.

Early reports described this as a “superhero buddy cop movie” that would involve Blue Beetle. We’ll get you more updates on this as they become available, but keep in mind there hasn’t been any movement on this in a long time, and the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle movie is probably taking priority for the studio.
Deadshot
Warner Bros. knows they have one of the biggest stars in the world already in costume, so they’re reportedly considering a Deadshot solo movie, as well. But with Smith now having left Suicide Squad 2 this project seems like it may not ever materialize. Unless, of course, switching Idris Elba’s role (he was originally intended as Smith’s replacement as Floyd) means they’re keeping the door open for him down the road.
Lobo
The Lobo movie may attempt to be the DCEU movies’ equivalent of Deadpool. Jason Fuchs must have impressed Warner Bros. with his work on Wonder Woman, because he’s on board to write the script for this one. Michael Bay might direct. But with Lobo appearing on Krypton season 2 and a TV series for the character that had once been put into development (but is probably dead), this might be less of a priority for the studio now.

Joker & Harley Quinn Movie
At one point there was yet another Joker-centric flick in the works. This one, a Joker and Harley Quinn movie is absolutely part of the DCEU movie continuity would pick up where Suicide Squad left off. There are currently no additional details available on this one, either. This probably won’t happen, however.
Warner Bros. is very happy with how their R-rated, out of continuity Joker movie performed both critically and commercially, and with Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar win, it’s a safe bet that they’re at least quietly hoping to make him their definitive Clown Prince of Crime for the foreseeable future…even though Joker was never intended to be part of the DCEU.

Jared Leto Joker Movie
Honestly, we’re having trouble keeping track of all these, but yes, there was also yet another Joker solo movie in development focusing on Jared Leto’s version of the character in the works at one point. Apparently, this has long been canceled, but we’re keeping it here to be safe for a little longer.

The same study found [The Boy in the Striped Pajamas] is the most widely read book about the Holocaust among students aged 12-18, surpassing Anne Frank’s Diary (by a shocking 59.1%) and even history textbooks. In the UK, over 35% of teachers use it as a resource when teaching the Holocaust in history classes. The damage it has done is well documented; a 2009 study by the London Jewish Cultural Centre showed that 70% of readers thought it was based on a true story, and many even thought Bruno’s death ended the Holocaust.
Boyne protests that his work is “just a fable,” but this doesn’t detract from the views of children after reading the book, many of which are quoted in the study mentioned above. “We always think of the Nazis as the bad guys and this shows that the Holocaust didn’t just affect the Jews (…) but the problems that Nazi families might encounter and what their problems were,” said Dan, a year 9 student. “It is too easy to feel sorry for the Jews (…), I don’t mean that in a rude way, it is just like, everyone is always (…) going to sympathize with the Jews (…) when you see it from like Bruno or the mother’s perspective it seems a bit different because they had to live with that,” said Jack, year 12. The most egregious quote though is “they (the Nazis) couldn’t do anything about it because they (…) basically got killed off if they didn’t do what he (Hitler) said (…) it doesn’t matter who was the bigger victim, they (Nazis and Jews) were all still victims of Hitler’s control in some shape or form,” from Erica, year 11.
Now, in 2022, Penguin Random House is giving us the sequel no one asked for. In case we didn’t get enough of humanizing Nazis, “All the Broken Places” will tell Bruno’s (now adult) sister’s story, focusing on the trauma she feels over her Jew-hating, Hitler-loving past. Why? It seems a poorly thought out, cash-grabbing sequel is more important than proactively making amends for the damage already done to the Jewish community and Holocaust education.
Our education system is deeply broken.

Entry 8: Changing Lanes
I haven’t written in here in a while but to be honest, there’s been nothing much to report. Yesterday, I reorganized my living room. I put the dining table by the bookshelves, right outside the kitchen and dragged the so-called “comfy chair” - a lazy boy type armchair which vibrates on command and can even warm itself up which we bought for my late uncle and which he never used- to the opposite side of the room, to the place where the dining table used to be. Funny story, we didn’t buy the chair until my uncle was mostly gone because the head nurse had given us the impression that if he was too agile he might accidentally press a button and accidentally project himself across the room. This terrifying but highly comical image now seems completely absurd - while the chair does right itself when you press press a button, it does so at a snail’s pace and would by no means be able to act like a catapult (regrettably - this would be great fun now. Perhaps I can re-engineer it to speed it up?). In any case, that’s beside the point which is that after re-arranging my living room I managed to create a huge amount of free space which in turn managed to make me feel dreadfully guilty. In my heart, I feel that any self-respecting student living in a city should live in a space the size of a cupboard - because how else can they claim to be true intellectuals? That I should have enough cash to provide EXTRA space for myself seems so shameful I almost don’t want to tell you about it. How embarrassing, it is. I feel I should be saving every penny, that to spend any money on EXTRA space is something of a mortal sin, a sign of moral decadence and mental degradation. What am I to say to anyone when - though I should say ‘if’, given how this pandemic is shaping up - they come over? They’ll take one look at the blatant luxury of my empty space and I know what they’ll think. Rich girl. Daddy’s girl.They’ll imagine a whole life of similar luxuries, of even more shameless empty spaces. Maybe even horizons. The shame will be so great I’ll feel equal parts compelled to blurt out some mitigating fact -to say that I’m actually quite comfortable sleeping on the floor and have done for many years- as I’ll feel compelled to say nothing at all, because to explain oneself in that way is to admit an insecurity, a weak spot that a friend turned enemy might prod at during some later confrontation (a lesson I learned, like most people, at some vague point during primary school). Thinking on it and about how proud and wary I am of all members of my species, the second action seems far more likely. Let them think what they will. Better they take me to be a spoilt, sheltered socialite than a doormat.
But that’s all a tangent. It’s not what I wanted to write to you about. You see, lately I’ve been thinking on what I should do when this whole pandemic is over. Up until last week, my plan was to finish my MA this Christmas, perhaps take some OPT employment during the following six months and enter the Philosophy PhD program in the autumn of 2022. It was a solid plan but whenever I found myself thinking about it during these long months of quarantining, I admit I felt more disheartened than enthusiastic. “Four more years of this,” I’d catch myself thinking. The prospect of being freed from the bonds of social-distancing only to enter a library and sit alone for hours on end just filled me with the most profound sense of despair. So, I thought: fuck it. Scrap that plan. I’m not doing the PhD. I’m thinking “Antarctica, how about it?” See the whales and the penguins and the strange, inhuman landscapes. Follow Frankenstein and his beast to the edge of the earth and begin again (it was the antarctic wasn’t it?). Having had this thought, I youtubed videos of the Antarctic and nearly cried. The skies! The bleak, vast white-ness! The green glow of the ice in the waning light! This, I said to myself, this is exactly what I need. And of course, if I’m going to take all the trouble of going to the Antarctic (an expedition I have yet to completely figure out) I need something to record it - a go pro? A camera with a good lens? It occurs to me suddenly: I could do a travel log, a video diary. A *reportage*. And then, not like a bulb switching on but more like a slow, flickering sunrise, I understood what I should probably have always known. I’m not a philosopher. I’m a journalist. I’ve been doing it, without really knowing since I was a child, always disregarding it for the thrills of more fantastic or pretentious avenues of writing. I had never stopped to think that my sketches, my little written portraits of scenes I see on the streets or out my window might actually inform a career. It seems so silly now to have missed it. So glaringly obvious. But I guess we are a mystery most of all to ourselves; if it had been anyone else, I’d have been able to identify it immediately - that is, after all, what I did as a professor: find a student’s strengths and try to enhance them. In any case, there it is. I was blind but now I see. After Antarctica, I’m doing a second MA in narrative non-fiction. That’s what I wanted to say.
EDIT: A small addition. Have been dancing in my living room from god knows when till 2 in the morning. Placed my multicoloured light on the coffee-table on the strobe setting to create more of an atmosphere. I can feel droplets of sweat run the curve of my breasts. Baptizing my new life in salt water.
