The West, and we all know exactly who I’m talking about, will never understand the plights of the global majority. Sure we have popular book series like The Hunger Games but we saw just how “colorblind” they were when a semi-accurate Rue made her first appearance on their screens. Ppl were literally saying that they lost empathy for her cuz she was Black when she was quite literally Black in the freaking book. The same thing happened with Babel by R. F. Kuang. White bookstagramer showed her whole behind cuz apparently the book discussing oppression made her “feel bad for being white” cuz the white girl in the story literally was apart of the problem. Even had the audacity to label it as racist. This all goes hand-in-hand with my other post where I said they need to start making stories from the eye of the oppressor and not the oppressed. They don’t get it. They want to “save” us but really just want to be heroes. That is not the same thing as fighting against an oppressive ppl and system. It is a god complex. Let the MC learn how corrupt their country and system is. Let them realize that they most likely are part of the problem! This is also how we wind up with them using our experiences and placing them on elves and orcs even after we’ve said that it’s not doing what they think it is. If they don’t understand Star Wars and can’t see that it’s always been political then they do not need to be writing these stories.

i think one of the best subtleties of challengers is we all think art has matured because he got what he wanted - tashi and fame - and tashi and patrick are still immature teens but art hasn’t! he’s still a stunted adult, a literal teenager in the body of an adult who puts on this facade of maturity and wisdom to hide the fact that he’s deeply hurting inside because he does not want to be perceived as childish or immature, he does not want people to know he still ruminates over being the second choice lurking in the shadows of patrick and tashi - because even as an adult he still is. he can’t exist with tashi and he can’t exist without and so he becomes this blank nothingness and does what she says to feel something - approved, desired - so he does not become the bitter and jealous child that broke up tashi and patrick and ultimately led to tashi injuring herself. he is literally nothing more than tashi’s partner (as she is to him too) and has to pretend he’s okay with that so he doesn’t lose everything he’s built like he did when he was 18 and in love with his best friend and his best friend’s girlfriend.

One of the cruelest things I think Bowser would do is give Mario an ultimatum, a very cruel one. So your Mute Mario, making him chose between Luigi and his daughter.

Ooooh I really love angsty scenarios where someone is forced to choose between loved ones!

For Mario, he would pretty much instantly delude himself into believing he could save them both. He has to save them both. There’s literally no other option in his mind, because he can’t bear the thought of losing one of them.

But for Luigi, there would be no choice. Mario has to save his daughter. He does everything he can to get that point across to Mario, and if he has the option he’s making eye contact with Mario from across the room to convey that to him. He wouldn't even have to say it or sign it. Mario would see the look in his eyes understand automatically that Luigi would never forgive him if he let his daughter die instead.

It would break his heart, but he'd still promise to save Luigi, signing it from across the room as he finally looks away and sprints towards his daughter. It's probably the last thing they ever communicate to each other.

the last unicorn post from earlier has me thinking about the master. that yana is still in there, you know? is still someone he was, if even for a brief flash across the life of a time lord. there’s no way to unlive that life. there are ways to twist it later, sure, to make utopia into hell on earth. but the life was lived. in much the same way that the doctor can remember, can feel, the love he held onto as john smith even as that life is ripped out of his hands. the doctor choose denial and then grief and then to shutter it all away. and so john smith died, and so professor yana died, and the doctor and the master live on. the doctor has done this before, and he lives in orbit around humanity, trying to keep the best parts of them and hold them deep enough to take root (which he can pretend he gets to choose, as a time lord. as a human, it all floods in and can’t be dug back out.) but what about the master, right?

to borrow a turn of phrase: i think there are two time lords left in the universe, and they both learned how to regret.
