Everyone likes to hate on Mass Effect Andromeda but that game set up for me what's the ideal way of making companion quests. Locking to getting to know and bonding closer with your companions behind a romance was quite a bummer for me in regards to Baldur's Gate 3.
My first playthrough of ME:A I romanced Vetra, got to race her up to the top of the cliff and then lay down the rock holding hands with her. And I still got to meet Jaal's family and see his holographic map of the galaxy and it was such a sweet moment between friends! And then on the next run, it was the opposite - I got to enjoy the sunset on top of the cliff with Vetra as friends, and kiss and hold hands with Jaal under the holographic stars on his bedroom.
Just... let me have nice intimate moments with companions as friends. Let me have wine with Shadowheart on the beach without wanting to kiss her. I want to hear about her plans for the future! Why would she not share that with me just because I never got into her pants!
Anyway, long rant over

I went to do the stations of the cross with my family this past weekend for good friday/easter not because i’m religious but because they are and i enjoy latently existing in religious spaces. However this time around I realized something that I think really got to the heart of why I stopped wanting to follow Catholicism.
During the stations there was this repeated phrase (I dont think this is universal but it might be) that says “Let me die than ever sin again” and I got to thinking about that and.
In its kindest, most gentle interpretation, sin is simply an action that brings us away from god. It’s the root of suffering because we aren’t one with god. The implications here are that sin makes god sad because he wants to be close to us absolutely and that for us to stop sinning makes us one with him, stops our suffering, and allows us to live as our most true, authentic selves. There’s a lot to unpack with that as it pertains to free will but that’s not what I’m here to talk about today.
What struck me today was how this must sound from god’s perspective. Or at least, from the perspective of a god who is truly omnipotent and unconditionally loving.
Now, I’m no theologian and I am just one guy but if I was a god, or ANYONE with any relationship with another human being, I don’t think that is… something I would want said about me? We are encouraged to view the relationship with god as a parent-child, close friend, and even in some CERTAIN, SPECIFIC, VERY TENUOUS contexts even as romantic. (Beware the blapshemy on that last one lest you be burned at the stake). I wouldn’t want someone I loved thinking that every time they fucked up they should just die. That’s horrible. I’d want them to get help for that. Even if they were trying, or even not trying, or not trying very hard, I wouldnt want them to feel like their closeness to me was contingent on them never screwing up ever. To the point where they’d rather die than mess up again. I’d look at them and say ‘girl get help.’
It also doesn’t sound like true love to me. It doesn’t sound like the words of someone who is trying their best but knows they are fallible and will be loved no matter what. It just sounds like self flagellation for the sake of self flagellation which I guess if you’re into that, cool.
That’s just me though. Maybe i’m a kinder god than most.

bombing hospitals is a war crime. cutting off power to a hospital during times of crisis is a war crime. besieging a hospital is a war crime. shooting at anyone trying to flee a hospital is a war crime. making conditions so unbearable in a hospital that patients are dying is a war crime. and if anyone wants to get into specifics and say "well actually so and so ISN'T a war crime", i apologize for implying that it was. but it IS fucking deplorable. it SHOULD be a goddamn war crime. and hell to everyone who had anything to do with this. hell to those who stood by silently while this happened. and even worse, to those who applauded or justified this.

"What's happening to Gaza?"
On October 7, Hamas militants conducted an attack on Israel resulting in the death of ~1300 Israelis, including women and children and other civilians. The militants broke out of Gaza at the Erez crossing (north Gaza Strip).
In response, the Israeli government has authorized and carried out an extensive campaign of airstrikes against Gaza using the justification that Hamas militants purposely use Palestinian civilians as human shields. The Israeli government contends that Hamas chooses headquarters locations in residential buildings as a way to discourage the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) from targeting them. Israel also contends that Hamas militants have an extensive tunnel system under Gaza in the north, which protects the militants from perishing in airstrikes.
While Hamas' political wing was elected to power in the election held in 2007, there has not been another vote since. Fully half of the 2.2 million people in Gaza are children. Israeli forces left Gaza in 2005 but has blockaded it since then. Israel has full control over everything and everyone that enters and leaves the Strip.
Currently, the Erez crossing is inoperable. The only other crossing is Rafah, in the south, sharing a border with Egypt's Sinai peninsula. This border is closed. It has been open 3 times since October 7: once to let in 30 trucks of humanitarian aid, once to let in 17 trucks, and once on 1 November to allow three critically injured patients and 400 Palestinians with foreign passports to evacuate. The Rafah crossing has been bombed by IDF multiple times since October 7.
The Israeli government has cut off communication with Gaza twice since October 7. It could do so again at any time.
From UNRWA (United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees):
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, 8,525 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since 7 October. That is 3,542 children and 2,197 women. A further 21,543 have been injured.
Many in the West do not know any Palestinians at all, let alone a Gazan. They can feel sad when they see bombed out buildings and men digging through rubble with their bare hands, but not knowing a person there allows them to easily move on to the next thing.
I cannot do that.
On my personal account, @yessoupy, I have posted often about my Palestinian students from Gaza. What is happening in Gaza is not an abstraction for me. I have anywhere from 15 (confirmed) to 30 former students currently in Gaza.
What can you do to learn more?
Instagram is widely used in Gaza and is the best place to follow Gazan journalists reporting on their homeland.
byplestia - Plestia Al Aqad, my former student
motaz_azaiza - Motaz Azaiza, Plestia's former schoolmate
hindkhoudary - Hind Khoudary, cousin of another former student of mine
wizard_bisan1
You can add to your list by following these four and following who they tag. By following these accounts, you're able to see what is happening. Please, if you do not know a single Palestinian, please learn. All of these journalists post most of their work in English.
If you have questions that you're afraid to ask because you're worried about whether your wording is offensive or you're worried that you'll look stupid, please send me a DM or an ask off anon (I will not publish publicly unless you EXPLICITLY tell me that you DO want it published). No question is stupid, and I will gently (and without judgment) correct any wording as necessary. In my real life I am a teacher, and having taught world history in the past I know that at least in America students don't learn very much at all about Palestine. I am happy to teach you.

I am genderqueer but I am not non-binary.
I am a binary gender. That binary gender is male, and happens to also be genderqueer. Even if that “technically counts as being non-binary,” it doesn’t to me.
I am two genders at the same time, but I am not bi-gender.
I have two gender identities. They coexist at the same time and never change. I am always male and always genderqueer. However, I am not bi-gender. You might be scratching your head and wondering how that’s even possible. How can someone who’s two genders at once which never change not be bi-gender?
Because I’m not. The label just doesn’t fit me. I do not identity with the label bi-gender. I am not bi-gender, I am genderqueer. A genderqueer guy.
Although my gender fluctuates in intensity, I am not gender-flux.
My gender tends to be silly goofy and likes to fluctuate in how ‘intense’ it is. One day, I could be feeling 100% super manly man, boyly boy, and want only to be addressed using he/him/his, no matter what I look or dress like that day. Other days, I could feel a little more ‘disconnected’ from my manhood, and although I still love he/him pronouns, I might throw it/its into the mix too. (But never they/them.) You’re probably thinking that that sounds like the textbook definition of gender-flux. And it more or less is. But it’s not me. Even I don’t know why; I just don’t vibe with the label.
There are certain labels that, although they may “technically” describe someone, won’t fit them. In my opinion, gender should not be defined as what label “technically” fits. It should be defined as how the individual themself feels about it.
A binary trans person might identify as a label such non-binary, for instance, not because their gender itself is not binary, but maybe because they still like dressing in clothes traditionally associated with their birth sex, or because they don’t like being referred to as a woman or man and would rather just be called a person! Or even if they just like they way the label vibes with them and would rather use that instead or “trans man,” or “trans woman.”
Their gender could still be binary, but they are 100% allowed to refer to themselves as non-binary, for whatever reason they want.
If you want to use labels to describe your gender expression rather than identity itself, then that’s alright! You’re allowed, I promise. And if anyone tries to police your identity for no absolutely reason, just remember: it’s YOUR gender, it’s YOUR identity, and it’s NOT hurting anyone!

Another thing that always bothers me, is the whole Crow and Soulburner comparison.
For starters Crow did not ‘steal the spotlight’ so there is no comparison to begin with. A better comparison would be Bruno, but y’all don’t have the capability to shit on any character that’s not Crow. If you are going to misinterpret everything about Crow at least have the decency to shut up about him.

TW! Mention of predatory behavior, (former) Admin Bright.
The SCP fandom is an absolute shitshow right now with the Dr Bright/Admin Bright issue, and right when I was about to board the Dr Elias Shaw boat, now the person who came up with the idea is also a perverted fuck. There is no winning at the moment and I just feel really sad.
I loved the character of Dr Bright. Dr Bright was a little spark of humor in a serious organization, and also hit the dark side of immortality. Hearing that his creator is a horrible person made me sad. Then I hear there’s an alternative. Yay! We can develop this character with the base idea of the original! But nope!
I’m not trying to act like people are overreacting. I only just learned about this a few hours ago. Predatory behavior and abuse of power for sexual favors is disgusting. I wouldn’t wish such behavior upon anyone. (P.S. watch Dr Cimmerian’s videos on the situation. Other than his hesitance to go into much description, I think he did a good job being reasonable and level headed, talking about the situation as a former admin himself. Considering the subject matter, it’s not too surprising that he doesn’t quite know how to go about explaining everything.)
But I just don’t fuckin know what to do anymore. We’re in a lose-lose situation and no one wants to talk or agree on a course of action. They only want to condemn and be angry. I don’t know what to think anymore. Especially knowing that there’s nothing I can do about it.
I know I haven’t posted much in regards to the SCP Foundation, but I believe the best course of action (for myself) is to leave. At least, partially leave. The skips themselves I’ll interact with. Nothing else.
TLDR- I don’t know how to feel anymore about the SCP foundation, and I’m limiting my interactions with it for an undetermined amount of time.
