No, you don't get it: the most tragic thing to ever happen in any of Lucy Maud Montgomery's books is that Anne would have been around 90 by the time The Lord of the Rings was published - and she would have loved it so...
And she absolutely did live to read it (look, I get to make the rules; it's canon from now on) but imagine her having access to it as a teen! Then, she definitely wasn't there to read The Silmarillion and these books were just written for her, you know...

I called him, once; then listened: nothing moved:
Only my thumping heart beat out the time.
Whispering his name, I groped from room to room.
Quite empty was that house; it could not hold
His human ghost, remembered in the love
That strove in vain to be companioned still.

Danny as a Historical Badass
So, I'm sure you have all heard at least one story about those Badasses in History, the ones who are basically Legends at this point, right?
Like Simo Hayha, the White Death. The legendary Finish Sniper who managed to get 505 Confirmed Kills in less than 100 days, and an additional 200 kills with a Sub Machine Gun.
Or Mad Jack Churchill, the Craziest Commando. The guy who went to War with a Bow and a Broadsword, inflicting the last Archery Fatality in British Military History. He and his single partner also managed to raid a Village and capture 44 unsuspecting Soliders.
I want Danny to be seen in history in the same way they were.
If we go with the AU where the events of the Show happened in the Early 1900's, Danny would reach Eligibility just in time for both World Wars.
I want one of the Batfamily Members to run across a Video online of "Roman Helmet Guy" on Tiktok talking about Danny with that Badass Music in the Background.
Like, Danny is known as the Insane Solider of WW1/WW2. The guy who somehow managed to capture entire Platoons singlehandedly. The Guy who raided Enemy Camps in the Dead of night and managed to capture High Ranking Commanders on his own. The Guy that survives life threatening wounds like it's nothing MULTIPLE TIMES, and is somwhow back on the battlefield within the hour.
Some people speculate that he was an early Metahuman, but nobody can confirm because he hasn't been seen in decades. Some people.think he must be dead by now.
And then the Batfam member does a double take because, That's Old Man Danny.
Thats the old guy who runs their favorite Cafe. He must be well over 100 years old by now, but he looks like he's in his early 70's.
And doesn't Alfred frequent that Cafe?
Yes, he does. Alfred and Danny are old War Buddies.
Idk where this is going, I feel braindead right now.
I just wanted Danny to be seen as a Historical Legend because I was binging 'Roman Helmet Guy's videos and thought of this.
Wait, wasn't Diana in WW1? Like, in the movie at least she fought in WW1, so what if she met Danny during that time? What if she wasn't the only one to rush into No-Mans Land during that action scene in the Movie?
Diana shows up in Gotham and just says, "Oh no need to worry, I'm just visiting an old Friend."
Also, I recommend watching videos on Simo Hayha, he is such a badass.

Dom!Steven and Bimbo!reader headcanons
Tumblr media
Summary: You're a bimbo, but you're not inexperienced. Steven Grant is an obvious sub... right?
Warnings: oh the filthiest smut, vaginal fingering, overstim, kinda mean dom!Steven but not really, squirting, multiple orgasms, reader faints, titty play (if you squint), reader is described as dim, stupid, but she's nice.
Notes: For @cosmicblogs xxx we are hopping on the bimbo reader bandwagon FR!
Tumblr media
So picture this: You're a bimbo girlie. You adore anything pink and sparkly, cute and fluffy, ect. Your nail are always perfectly manicured and your outfits always steal the show. Your ditsy, and sweet, and thoroughly enjoying your date with giftshopist Steven Grant.
This was your 3rd date, or rather the tail end of it. Steven had invited you over, and you, being the innocent, unassuming thing you were, agreed with a smile.
Under no circumstance would you have assumed Steven had less than safe for work intentions. Besides..
He was a sub. It was obvious.
Eventually though, you made your way back to his flat- Steven scratched the back of his head, and flushed a little as you squealed about how "cute" his homestead was.
Steven had worn tight jeans to your date today, he had hoped you might be into how fit they made his ass look- you didn't seem to be noticing much though. Not that you ever did.
He didn't like to admit it, but it was the truth. You were.. a little dim, at best. He still loved you, and wouldn't change you for the world.
Sometimes he wondered if there was anything between your ears, or if your brainspace was totally occupied by pink sparkles and high heels.
An hour or so later, you both were curled up together on the sofa- Steven had turned on some random documentary on thr history channel, and had to keep himself from laughing everytime you expressed geniune awe at things most people learned when they were children.
"You're so smart Steven." You had said, without a hint of irony, when he'd corrected you that WW2 had infact come after WW1.
It made his heart swell, you were so adorably dumb.
It also made his dick twitch, you were amazed by him, willing to offer him endless ego boosts. Something not many people were.
Steven's eyes raked over your body, god you looked delicious.
You wore pink, obviously. But the way that dress hugged your body... Steven felt his dick twitch again, his eyes fixating over your breasts.
He'd bet your nipples were so sensitive, and if he closed his eyes he could almost imagine how they'd taste...
"Steven?"
Your voice broke him out of his dick-brained stupour-
"Yes darlin'?" "You're like, totally out of it. Shall I like, leave? Like, you look totally tired."
Awe. You thought he was tired.
"No no, love, 's alright, c'mere-"
Steven gently tugged you closer to him, now having you laid on your stomach against his chest.
You nestled there comfortably, and hummed as Steven kissed your head.
He looked down, from this angle he could spy just how juicy your bum was.
His hands twitched.
Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
Steven decided to test the waters, just a wee bit.
Slowly, he traversed his hand down your back, smoothing over your dress. You cuddled into him further, and so did Steven go further.
His hand now teased the hem of your dress, before reaching in to gently caress the apex of your thighs.
You moaned softly, stretching upwards like a cat- "Steven, that like, feels good."
He had never heard you so breathless before, "Yeah?" You moaned again, as his hand travelled a little lower to rub the pad of his fingers against your hole.
Your hips jerked, and you buried your face into his chest to hide your embarrassment as Steven's touches became more and more confident.
This wasn't how this was supposed to go! Steven was a sub, surely! Your tiny, bimbo brain couldn't comprehend him taking control over you like this.
He pinched your clit through your panties- no doubt also pink- the texture of which had you keening.
Steven rubbed your little bud between his fingers until you were drooling on his shirt, pleasure rolling through you in hot waves.
You expected him to stop now, flip you over and stuff you with his cock until he came, you were certainly wet enough-
But he didn't. His fingers kept working you until you came, hot white bliss, and then some.
The pressure from his fingers waned, but didn't stop, not even as he shifted, sitting up and pulling you into his lap, where you felt the heat of his cock pressed up beneath you.
He heard you whimper, and he kissed you neck.
His hands just didn't stop though, even as they dextrously moved your panties aside, finally plunging two of his thick fingers deep inside you, they just kept moving.
Stroking you inside in all the right spots, all the right points that made you cry out, legs twitching.
It wasn't long before you felt another shattering orgasm approaching you.
The only sounds to be heard in the flat now, (TV having turned itself off long ago) were your breathless cries, the wet squelching of Steven's hand against your cunt, and his soothing voice whispering into your ear;
"Yeah, 's good yeah? Feels good?" "S-steven-" "Yeah.. I bet it feels so good, dunnit? Hmm? So good you can't even speak, huh? No? It's that good, sweetheart? So good my baby's tiny is just fit to burst, huh? Can't fit nothing else in there?" He tapped your skull with his free hand, "Nothing else but me in there, ain't that right?"
You wanted to protest, a little peeved that he'd just insinuated, accurately, how stupid you were- but no words came you. Only pathetic, drooling moans and whines, both your hands digging into Steven's arm, leaving crescent shaped scars.
It didn't stop, not even as you came for the second, and third time, and even as the fourth built up.
At this point Steven had tugged your dress and bra down under you tits, and with his previously free hand rolled and squeezebox of them, and suckled hard on the other, gently teasing with his teeth.
You were a mess. Your mascara ran streaks down your face, thighs covered in your own juices and hair dishevelled and messy.
Past the point of moaning like you enjoyed it, you just full on cried now, sobbing and babbling whilst staring in awe at Steven's hands.
The electricity of climax was all you felt, and it was constant. So much, too much. It was the only thing you were aware of.
When the fourth and final one peaked, it was different. You threw your head back agaisnt Steven's shoulder, but not so far as to miss the torrent of liquid gushing from your core, twisting hard pleasure through your every vein.
Eventually the pleasure stopped, but you weren't aware of that either, having blacked out in a hazy, cum brained unconsciousness, still twitching ontop of your lover.
Steven finally pulled his hands from you, a little worried that you'd fainted, but he figured you'd come around soon.
He brought his fingers to his mouth and sucked them clean- mmmmmmm, god, he'd have to taste you later. For now though, hed leave you be... you needed some sleep.

i’d never even considered how the civil war would affect alfred during ww1, that’s a really interesting idea. would you mind expanding a bit more if you haven’t already?
fuck yes I can expand on that. TW for historic nastiness.
Okay to prelude— I don't typically do 1:1 state/gov to character but considering the cession of the south into a separate state and the US itself is the Union, my boy is in blue. In this blog's universe there is no schizophrenia or split personality or Doppelgänger or any other representation of the south. It gutted him and he lost feeling in a lot of his usual area and it severely weakened him but he represented the United States and that means union blue. And considering the north really doesn't have all that much moral leverage on the south especially in matters of racism, it's not much of a jump. If you aren't crazy about that, look away now.
So. Trench warfare. It's as old as humans bashing each other's heads in. Defensive ditches are an archaeological feature across the applicable world. But it's the American Civil War that might hold the gold medal for largest gap between how technology designed to kill had advanced spectacularly over any innovation that might save lives. I won't say deadliest because you do have the Taiping Rebellion around the same time but a lot of that was sièges and counter sieges and river based naval engagements. But anyway— rifled artillery and direct fire techniques had changed the game and soldiers were driven underground behind parapets and sandbags. Around Petersburg especially. And it's towards the end of the war when the Confederacy is increasingly desperate and hand to hand fighting is getting more common and more brutal. Entire regiments were lost in hand to hand mêlée. And if a soldier didn't die instantly, it was off to a field hospital. Guts ripped open by iron shells, lungs hanging from the tips of bayonets, wounds so infected they glowed, limbs hacked off by a surgeon who hadn't washed his hands in six days and sepsis rot so foul someone can taste it on the air even with the mouth closed. Malaria and typhoid so fucking bad the army cots would literally shake apart from how bad men shivered when the chills aspect of the fever cycle hit. I know it's fashionable right now especially on vintage fashion YouTube to say people in history weren't disgusting but like, I've been in archives for years. Yeah it fucken was. Never was medicine so far behind the ability to kill.
So Alfred's probably died a solid dozen times half of which from shitting himself because he's probably riddled with parasites. He's been shot, stabbed, slashed. Shaken, rattled and absolutely steam rolled. And the final part of his almighty trauma is this is happening just up the river from where he was born in Jamestown. Alfred is on his belly in the earth beneath the feet of the people that bore him and then rejected him, begging his Protestant God and any of his own people listening and the very earth itself to protect him, to keep him alive as shell after shell lands around him.
When every battle is over, the dead rot in piles across the fields and trenches. The famous photos of the Antietam and Gettysburg dead are days old, you can see some of the bodies had been looted. There were so many dead and so many dying that upon its tardy entrance into world war one, the US had a more coherent body management and disposal program than any other of the entente powers. Who had already been at war for nearly four years.
So yeah, in my opinion he got ten steps into a front line trench where the British and especially the French were just causally walking on bodies, he vomited so hard New York felt California rattling around in there and said fuck it. My boy was either off to cleaner pastures like Belleau Wood or the air corps. It was too much too soon and he just couldn't keep it together in those conditions. They knew what bacteria were by WW1 and he was a burgeoning world power. So he probably only went full himbo with dysentery twice in France so it wasn't as bad as his civil war flop era but oof. That smell, the screams, pressing himself into soil that is not his own yet again is too recent and too vulnerable. He can't do it again so soon.

Thinking about things that are popular interpretations but not really ‘canon’, Amestris is not ‘literally Germany’ and trying to parallel everything only with Germany or critiquing it on the basis of how good it represents (historic) Germany comes off as.... tunnel vision, in my opinion. Even in 03 were they actually interact with Germans, Amestris is still it’s own country with a different history. It’s another country in another universe, not a parallel version of a real one.
Yes Amestris has European aesthetics as inspiration, that does include Germany too. Yes Arakawa researched early 1900s and WW2 era political situations around the world, including Germany. But also, in a large part Japans history and politics which she has talked about in interviews.
Even on the European aesthetics of Amestris. It has a more broad inspiration too. They canonically speak English, they have London style telephone booths, their military wears blue uniforms like France in ww1. Their military has an American ranking system (at least some of the Dutch military ranks don’t have an english translation so ranking is not always universal). A large part of Amestris is covered by desert and (bryce) mesa/badland biomes or open grasslands. They are land-locked. Despite it being 1914 they dress in modern western clothes. The population is multi ethnic. The life-action movie was filmed in Italy (iirc). The Armstrongs being an old noble family implies a past monarchy. Go wild!

Choosing you as the most likely to give a honest and detailed answer. Feel free to delete, however.
When people are calling Israel a colony, what do they mean? The way I understand that word, a colony is land, controlled by some other country that's elsewhere and run by citizens of that country. That doesn't seem to be the case here, since most Israel citizens are only citizens of Israel, not something else, and there's no "main" country they're representing and can return to. Or are people using "colony" metaphorically here?
Before Tumblr mobs me - I don't like Israel and don't support it.
Israel began as a British colony of Palestine in the post WW1 era, around 1920. The people responsible for the genocide are almost entirely of European origin who were moved to Palestine after WW2 (in the 1940s and 1950s) to avoid returning to the homelands where they'd been given up to the nazis by their neighbors.
Today, however, the bulk of the colonization effort is managed by the US military industrial complex.
Now, there are many other people living in Israel, of many faiths and many ethnicities. The Israeli people, be they Jews or otherwise, are also not fans of the genocide, in much the same way the American people are not fans of US genocides.
But the israeli government exists almost entirely as a puppet for US and European colonial goals, and has done since the assassination of Prime Minister Rabin in the 90s.
Prior to that, there was a brief period wherein the rightfully elected leaders of Israel sought peace in the region after throwing off the shackles of British colonialism, which again founded the country and only "ended" (on paper) in the 1950s.
Israel has been a colonial effort for about 2/3s of the century it has existed, including today.
Now, this is a simplified explanation, of course. For example, although it was was a colonial effort, the "return" of Jews to their "homeland" was also a refugee effort, and a repatriation effort.
Jews never really "stopped" being indigenous to the levant even in diaspora. This is extremely obvious if you've ever lived in a Jewish neighborhood, but may come as a shock to a lot of people used to thinking of the assimilated mask Jews wear in Christian societies as our "true" selves.
My family were nondiasporic Jews until me, which I gather is an... unusual perspective that many people don't see often. You'll have to take me at my word, I think, because it's difficult to explain. But Jews never actually "became white" the way people so desperately want to believe. Some jews learned to pass for white, yes, but that isn't the same thing.
Jews, even the Ashkenazim (the "white european" ones) have a right to return home the same as anyone. And not just because I'm a fan of open borders.
But here's the deal.
Mizrahim (Jews who remained in the middle east rather than living in diaspora) are literally treated as inferior, as "arabs" (a colonial term) regardless of religion or ethnicity. To be a Jew is not enough. You have to be the right kind. This is true of other Jews of Colour in Israel as well, often to an even greater extreme, as any Ethiopian Jew in Israel damned well knows.
This also... well, I've talked about it a bit before, but this summary is also casting a very cruel light on the concept of Jewish citizenship being automatically granted in the case of Jewish descent. Which isn't fair of me at all.
In a world without all the goddamned genocide, having a reduced immigration process for the children of emigrants is perfectly fucking common and normal and many countries do it, including the US.
And this also doesn't touch upon the critical political reality that Israel exists as a place for bigots to throw their jews away instead of straight up killing us.
So, okay, this got away from me.
Basically, Israel as a state is a colony of the US (today) and UK (historic), which is armed almost entirely by the US, and which attacks targets the US deems "of interest." The fact that the colony is populated by repatriated indigenous peoples doesn't really change that.
If anything, it deepens the horror, because many of the Jews involved in the genocide against Palestine genuinely (and fairly) believe that this is the last place on earth where a Jewish person can reasonably expect religious safety. Genuinely, and fairly, believe that it's a choice between "the genocide of all Jews globally or the elimination of a single '''Arab''' city."
They're wrong, but not irrational.
In a way, the existence of global antisemitism is the justification that fuels the ongoing palestinian genocide.
Though in practical terms, it is "fueled" by US weapons. The US wants to own Israel and use it as a launching off point for US violence in the region, without the US having to take the blame.
"See? It's all just poor, innocent Israel defending itself*!"
*(entirely with US weapons and often on US orders, often with weapons given to Israel rather than purchased, solely to further destabilize a religiously and financially significant region and furthermore to instill a sense of fear of Israel's neighbors and gratitude to the US)
For another example of a colony-of-the-repatriated, you can check out the history of civil war in Liberia, after the US just dumped a bunch of freed slaves there instead of killing them. Unsurprisingly, it went fucking Badly. However, because Liberia was not considered a "valuable" colony, less study tends to be done into the complexities of that.
Or, I mean, there's always "the life history of Osama Bin Laden" which is kind of like a one man speedrun of what the US is doing with all of Israel.

idk if you've seen that post, it's from years ago at this point, where someone is surprised to hear that Bucky has a disability. i think it's in an ask with a response like HE'S MISSING AN ARM. remembering that left me thinking,,, what are your thoughts on Bucky's own comprehension of his disability? like, i'm sure he experiences chronic pain, and he's aware of his disability *especially once he has a metal arm that can be detatched as we see in tfatws* but i also feel like he might feel guilty taking the title of disabled because he has the serum and is "super" plus he doesn't feel like he deserves the support/help that can and should be given to disabled people when they need it. ALSO he hasn't had all that much time to process as a human rather than a controlled weapon that he is missing an arm. his prosthetic has been welded into him,, with probably less sensation,, but it functions like an arm,, idk i just feel like it probably hits him out of the blue, too 🥲
Oooh thanks for the interesting ask nonnie! And yes I do remember that hilarious post.
Here's my usual disclaimer that this is just throwing out ideas and that canon lends itself to many different interpretations.
I think the first thing to consider is Bucky's relationship with disability as a concept. He was good friends with Steve, a chronically ill person, but sometimes people have a different bias when it comes to invisible illness versus visible body difference. I have seen people, including disabled people, who are more accepting of one type than the other. He had grown up during a time when disability was considered a "defect" and there was talk of eliminating them from the gene pool, so there might be some inherent fear of being seen as "disabled". At the same time, he had also fought through one of the bloodiest wars of human history but also post the antibiotic era, which means a lot of major injuries became survivable compared to WW1. He likely saw many people around him become physically marked in one way or another. I have a feeling that that experience would have reconciled him with the fact that the value of life is greater than physical wholeness. So overall, I think Bucky probably had a fairly accepting view on disability and illness back when he was able-bodied, and while he needs time to process the loss, that acceptance is probably somewhat protective against self-hatred.
The second thing is the curious subject of Bucky's bionic arm. I have met (lower limb) amputees who reject the "disabled" label, because to them once they put on a prosthesis they could walk and run and work and exercise. I think worrying about being "deserving" might be a small part of it, there's a bigger part of worrying about social perceptions of disability -- they didn't want the "handicap" label to be used to hold them back. I suspect you are right, in that Bucky probably sees himself as very capable, even super-humanly so, with the (very high-tech) prosthesis. He most likely feels that being a soldier is a big part of his identity and sense of worth. I suspect also...going back to what Bucky's relationship with the word "disability" means, his interpretation of that (given he came from the 1940s) might mean something that has a profound impact on function, and he may feel that he doesn't fit that mark.
The third thing is Bucky's relationship with body image, which has varied from movie to movie. The Winter Soldier had no qualms flaunting that arm, but then the Winter Soldier had no mind of its own, and its handlers knew the metal arm was intimidating. In both Civil War and TFATWS, we see Bucky wear gloves and long sleeves to hide his arm, which he removes when he starts a mission. It could be that he doesn't want to scare people or draw attention to it day to day, or it could be that he associates the arm with the soldier part of himself and he doesn't want to see it when he's trying to return to a normal life. Interestingly, in Wakanda, Bucky had been quite content to walk around without any sort of prosthesis at all. This might suggest that he's less bothered by the missing arm than he is by the need to wear a weaponised prosthesis.
But you know, people are fickle creatures, and I am sure when he's hit by PTSD or a bout of anxiety or depression, his views on body image and his physical limitations would take a very nasty turn and he would have to work through all the stages of grief again.

Arthur Timeline Analysis
This is a big analysis of the events in Arthur's life, based on what we know as far as episode 9.
If you just want the timeline here it is. However, I go through my methodology below the cut, so stick around for that if you would like!
Year campaign takes place: 2023
Year of birth: 1887
Year of Embrace: 1912
Year of immigration: 1918
Arthur's current age: 136
Arthur's visual age: 25
Quick warning for suicide a bit further down.
Facts we know:
Arthur is a little younger than 140
He left England in 1918, specifically right after World War 1 ended
He had younger twin siblings (that were smaller than adult size, yes this is important)
So, with this information I made a few assumptions. We are placing the timeline such that it is 2023 (year of recording) when this campaign is taking place. There are jokes in the episode about it taking place in 2012, but that makes the ages not line up well, especially with World War 1.
Another assumption: We are taking Arthur's true age to be 136. It is the lowest estimate for "a little younger than 140" I am comfortable with making.
And thus begins the timeline shenanigans.
Arthur was born in 1887, which makes him 136 in 2023.
His siblings would have to be under the age of about 11 to be smaller than their full grown, adult sizes. If Arthur were to be turned in 1918, he would have been 31. 20+ years difference is much quite a large gap between siblings, so he must have turned before 1918.
However, it was said that he left soon after being turned. But what is important to mention is that Arthur is within the age range to enlist in the British Army.
This seems out of character, but it really wouldn't be. He would have very recently killed his whole family. He wants to die. Being killed in a war is seen much more favorably than trying to kill himself. He already knows that trying to burn himself in the sun will just lead to Frenzy that will eventually get him out of harm's way.
So he joined the British military in 1914. He could have been turned right before enlisting and be 27 at the time of his Embrace, but that also seems unlikely.
Arthur wouldn't want to leave the country without checking for Anya everywhere he can. So he looked for her in all of England, while avoiding London as much as he possibly could. After the graves were dug, he didn't return until over a century later.
I say that two years is enough time to look for her in England, meaning the year he was turned was 1912. He would be 25.
This makes sense for his siblings ages as well. They could be 11 years old and only have a 14 year age gap. This is still somewhat large, but much more reasonable than 20. I know many people with this large of an age gap between siblings. A friend of mine has an age gap of 15 years and my mom has one of 16 (both with no siblings being born in between).
At 25, Arthur could still reasonably be living at home. He could be learning the Vampire Hunting trade from his father as an apprentice. His siblings would be young enough to have a small grave.
RECAP:
Arthur is currently 136. He was turned into a vampire before WW1 in 1912 and searched Great Britain for Anya for 2 years before volunteering for the British army, where he stayed for 4 years. Once the war ended in 1918, he left for the United States as soon as he could.
