yeah, okay. I just put in my two weeks' notice at my school janitorial job, and let me tell you, after working this job, I promise every on-screen adaptation of a US high school after-hours is a lie.
Lies:
only one janitor
for some reason there is never any type of security when they break in after hours.
no alarm
no walkie-talkies
Doors are always open
or, doors are never locked
No one grumbling about how dirty the drinking fountains are
FOR SOME REASON THE JANITOR ONLY HAS A MOP. I assure you, janitors use more than a mop. AND WE DOn'T ALl WeAr OverALls.
If there is staff, it's usually one elderly man with a beard and a scowl. And this man is supposed to clean the entire school by himself????
For some reason when they need to steal keys from the janitor, they have to get it off of the janitor. Buddy. There are like. He has an office. Where I worked, we have an entire cabinet of keys.
Oh! No janitorial office/supply closets. Yes, plural.
no on-floor sinks
No chemical bottles
No chemicals? I don't think I've ever seen someone use chemicals on screen. (Or doing anything but push a cart around. Hey! We collect the trash and clean windows and the freaking DRINKING FOUNTAINS.)
janitor always has the key or never loses it. (Keys get passed around like hot potatoes throughout the entire shift. Literally, I need someone, just once, to attack the head custodian with the intention of getting a key before realizing he already gave it to another employee like ten minutes ago, but when they go find THAT employee, they already passed it to someone else)
if something goes wrong in a school, guess who shows up first? Usually the janitor. They are janitor/matience/security/angry little man/woman/nb
something beeping and the police getting called. (Ha. one time I saw the security guy literally rip the beeping thing off the wall, told us to change the batteries, and then left)
No vacuums
This is not a hard job. Buddy. Look at me. Every job is a skillset you need to learn.

ooooh this is actually SUCH an easy answer for me! it's 100% this one teen wolf/x-men cross over (possibly my only one?) where Logan (wolverine) knew the sheriff from the way when they'd been lovers and he goes to find him, and stiles is a lil jean grey esque character. I think about this thing allllll the time, too. I freaking love it.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I used to use a looooot more than I do now, and I would use google translate. it's never GREAT, so I mostly avoid it now. I'll translate like, a single sentence every now and again, but I don't do a lot with it anymore.
as for how I feel about it as a reader - as long as I can figure out what's going on from context clues, I really don't mind it!

i have a sterek drabble called and i fell heavy into your arms (688 words) that is basically derek seeing stiles die and then immediately letting himself be killed
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
most of them?? not sure i can think of one specifically that was happier than the others.
Do you get hate on fics?
ah, i almost said no, but then i remembered that for my fic taste your beating heart every now and then i'll get scott fans who think the fic should be tagged as "bad friend scott mccall" even though he's NOT a bad friend in the fic, it's just a nuanced view of their changing relationship. like, that fic is about 3 main things that include: stiles and derek getting together, solving the main mystery, and stiles and scott's friendship maturing to a place where they can love each other and still be brothers without thinking they need to be in the same pack!! like it's FUNDAMENTAL.
anyway, i had one reader who i think quit the fic halfway through bc i gently pushed back on their rage comment insulting derek and stiles for a fight that takes place with scott. the reader left an angry reply to my response, which they then deleted before i could even look at it, and then never commented on the fic again even though they'd been commenting on the fic since chapter 1.

no not really. i don't know why i'm so bad at writing sex, but i am very bad at writing sex.

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
i've got a sterek idea that's an AU of the netflix show virgin river. i had a pretty brief outline that i sketched out some, and even started writing a little, but it never went anywhere. i did create an AU gifset for it and every now and then when people start reblogging it i think about going back to try and write it.
What are your writing strengths?
i think i'm good at realistic dialogue? but i don't know. i haven't written in a while so i'm not feeling super great about my writing at this very moment.
What are your writing weaknesses?
i suck at setting a scene. and conveying a complex emotion. also i feel like i get v bogged down in what characters are physically doing or whatever and i try to describe it and it just detracts from the story over all. yikes ok i'm feeling worse about my writing than i thought lol
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
if the context is there to understand what's being said, great. otherwise, just adding context to the dialogue tag (he said in french, in german, etc) works. personally i'd prefer not to scroll back and forth between the fic and the notes to figure out what's being said.
First fandom you wrote in?
harry potter. on the site quizilla back in the year of our lord 2005 lol. i started off writing like. a harry/oc fic lol where the protagonist was the classic american exchange student who had her own prophecy. truly mortifying!!
Favorite fic you've written?
i have a soft spot for taste your beating heart bc it was the first long fic i ever completed and it took me 7 fucking years to write it. but i think my favorite is actually finding our way (back home) which i really think captured everything i was aiming to do. will i ever be able to do that again??? who fucking knows. probably not. on the more self-indulgent side, i really really love the margaret buckley character study i wrote called so far from who i was.

I do regularly write stuff influenced by other fandoms or put characters in the world of another. I do have some ideas for full crossovers, though.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I used to write fic in German, then made the jump to English. I think it works better when you’ve consumed the og story in the same language. (For example, I was very scared how I got the voices in my Leverage fic because I only watch it in German but wrote in English. Thankfully other fics and gifs helped 😂)
Or is this specifically about when someone speaks another language? I think in that case it depends on whose PoV you’re writing – nothing irks me more than someone not knowing a language and yet it says “X heard Y say, “[proper sentences in that language]”. I don’t think that’s authentic. I always try to make it clear when the person doesn’t know what the other is saying.

5. do you respond to comments?
Yes, as often as I can. Sometimes, I forget on older fics. I'm sorry about that. If someone is rude to me in the comments though, I will respond rudely!
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably Teen Wolf. It's a story collection so the ending isn't really "true," but it's the end of Solas and Ghilan'nain's love story, in my mind. It's sad and bittersweet, as in the story, they are talking about building a house on the back acreage of Solas's mother's property, but I envision the very next day as being the day that Andruil invades the Weathers, kidnapping both Ghilan'nain and Solas's mother Leanathy, and beginning the Great War. In the ensuing days, Andruil's men leave Solas for dead, and when he wakes up, he goes to Mythal and begs her to free his mother in exchange for his loyalty. She accepts, rescuing and protecting Leanathy in her Blue Palace, and Solas becomes her Bodyguard. Eventually, he is elevated to her General, then he becomes her lover. During the war, after Ghilan'nain's betrayal, the Evanuris murder Mythal, and Solas, out of vengeance and grief, builds the veil and imprisons them all, including Mythal's soul, which would, over time, resurrect into her body, using special magic taught to her by Solas's mother many thousands of years before.
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Well, most of my long fics are unfinished. I'm sorry about that. I think that The Dead Season has a happy ending. So does Yours, Sadie Adler., thought it is bittersweet.
8. do you get hate on fics?
Not tons at all. I have gotten a few rude commenters over the years, mainly people being weirdly critical of my writing style in ways that are, frankly, moronic, and also some people who just want me to write more smut. But I don't write much smut anymore, and I don't think fics need smut to be worthy or interesting. If you only want a smut fic, you probably won't like my writing. Remember that tags exist so that you can see what you're getting into before you crack the first chapter!!!!
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
Lol. Speaking of. I used to write much more. It was never the overly explicit kind and I didn't have any specific kinks I liked to explore, but I wrote a lot of it for DAI and RDR2. I still write sex scenes for sure, it's just that they tend to be character driven.
10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written?
I have never written a real crossover; however, I do have some crossover characters in The Lily Farm. In the later chapters, I have two main characters who are taken from other texts: Woodrow Call from Lonesome Dove and LaBoeuf from True Grit. Both are Texas Rangers, and in my fic, they owe Dutch a few rather large favors. They help Arthur and Mary Beth on the river boat job, which goes terribly wrong. They also help break John out of federal prison. They are two of my favorite characters in the fic.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. I've had plenty of art stolen over the years and I don't even keep track anymore. Mainly it just gets reposted without credit on like, Pinterest. Oh well!
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I know of! But I am amenable.

I don't think so!
14. what's your all-time favourite ship?
I have several though Bethyl and Solavellan are probably tied for first.
15. what's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The Lily Farm. In truth there's not a ton left to write. But it's been 84 years like I don't even remember the geography of the game. I would have to replay RDR2, at least through chapter 4. I also wish I could finish Zero, my Niloy fic for HZD. I still think about them, and I still occasionally get really really nice comments on that fic. I honestly wish I could finish all my old fics. Like That he may hold, which also has maybe one closing chapter left to write. I wish I could finish As You Were, too, my TLOU fic, just so that I can save Joel's life, and as a big fuck you to Neil Druckmann.
16. what are your writing strengths?
I'm not sure. Pacing has probably always been my greatest strength.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
Overwriting, getting bored. My issue is often that I start a fic with modest goals but then those goals get bigger and bigger as I go, and I can't help myself. Then, I eventually get bored and I don't finish. I view fanfic as a way for authors to express themselves and their hyperfixations in the moment. I think that the quality of being "unfinished" is, in an of itself, conventional to fanfiction; however, I still view my general lack of focus as a weakness.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Don't translate it. Just put it there. If your reader cares enough and doesn't know the translation, they'll look it up. If they don't care enough to do this, then they're not your target audience. The internet makes this sort of thing very easy.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
Technically it's the boyband fandom (*NSync and Backstreet Boys, mainly) in like 1998, but in actuality, it's Dragon Age: Inquisition in 2016.
20. favourite fic you've written?
Probably Yours, Sadie Adler. It feels the most complete, and I still don't know how I managed to write that fic so quickly, when I was like three weeks postpartum with my second baby, and with very little revision. It just flowed out of me, like it was already written in my mind, and all I had to do was type it out. I have received some really lovely comments on it over the years. It seems to affect people deeply, which makes me very happy, because it came from a very raw place in my heart.

I don't really do angsty endings lol I think the closest I've gotten is Lay Me Down - 8k destiel major character death--lowest kudosed fic out of all 42 lmao

This is an impossible question. I am like the queen of happy endings? You want me to rank them??? Fine, it's You're Freaking Out. Best 10k epilogue in the land. Oh hey also I just noticed it has 997 kudos. May I humbly request 3 more pretty please?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No. Closest was when someone complained on one of my destiel fics about the grocery store not having plastic bags and needing a quarter in order to obtain a cart. I specifically remember they said, "I hate when writers do this," and went on to complain about us making up obviously fake stuff that pulls them out of the story. Like, first of all you're complaining about storytellers making stuff up ??? okay. And second, it was an Aldi. A real grocery store. That I didn't make up.
I had to take a day to cool off before I responded and then they were like oh yeah, my roommate told me when I complained to them, you responded to this really nicely though! WHICH folks LET ME TELL YOU made me angrier lol Like you found out you were wrong and didn't even come back to edit/delete/apologize for your comment???
Anyway after that I internalized that you don't know what kind of lived experience your commenters have so some comments should be taken with a grain of salt. Which is a double-edged sword bc sometimes I get really nice enthusiastic comments and read it like, okay but what if this person is 12 and read it at 2am in a fit of delirium and this is their first fic ever and it's actually not as good as they think haha
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I doooo. I haven't published any since I wrote for spn but I have a parkner pwp ready to go as soon as I muster up the nerve.
I have no idea how to interpret the question "what kind" lol uhhh the hot kind? pffft
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I have but I never published them. Again, these were for spn which is hella fun to play with merging into other canon. I started but never finished spn crossovers with Firefly, The 100, The Hunger Games, Criminal Minds, Agents of Shield, and Teen Wolf. I think that's all of them. I've been thinking about putting all of my abandoned wips on AO3 for archive purposes, but idk still noodling on it. I wish there way a way I could elect to post without notifying my subscribers :/ Or at least send them a message warning them that I'm about to be incredibly annoying

The wonderful @bluettspetal has translated An Insignificant Problem, Undercover? I thought you said under covers..., and Completely and utterly devoid of sex appeal into Russian with plans to translate more.
And Faaayeee42 on AO3 translated Paradise (spread out with a butter knife) to Mandarin Chinese.
I'm forever blown away by this.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope! Done some brainstorming a few times but nothing that has evolved into actually writing out a shared thing. Not sure I'd be any good at it tbh. I'd probably be a very frustrating writing partner.

Peter Parker/Harley Keener. They're good boys.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
My Infinity War time travel fix it (make it worse) fic 😔 It's got so much potential but it is perpetually at the bottom of the to-do list.

mother fucking action sequences and like, coming up with The Plan (the evil kind and the ones to take down the evil kind)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Eh. It's fanfiction, you know? Do what you want. Experiment. Try your best to do it justice. Accept that some people are going to let their eyes blur and skim over it while others will pick it apart but most will exist somewhere in the middle. Just write what you want to write, how you want to write it.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
*sigh* Harry Potter. Looking forward to my own post getting gobbled up by my block list lmao
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Goodness gracious how do I even decide? I think Peaches Ain't Pretty is my favorite. It's the fic that showed me beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can step outside of fanfiction and write whatever I want and be just as satisfied, if not more.

I love angst. I write it into a lot of things. But as far as endings go... hmm. Well I guess that title would currently go to one of my drabbles, A Done Deal [DnDads, G, Wc: 100] but without giving away spoilers one of my wips is going to take that title as soon as I get around to writting it lol.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Oh, But You Have Heard of Me [ Teen Wolf, M, Wc: 82,014]. My baby~! Happy ending and maybe one day it will have a happy sequel.

I feel like I'm going to jinx myself by saying no. I haven't recieved any rude or hateful comments on any of my fics. Not even when I posted on LJ.

I am not confident when it comes to writing smut. I used to write a lot of it back on LJ. Now I just Fade To Black, but I do have plans to maybe write some for a wip. But idk we will see when we get there.

Hahaha, yes! On LJ my irl bestie and I wrote a fic together! It was very cute, we each did a chapter following one half of the ships pov. I'd love to do it again some day it was super fun!
What I really wanna do is get a bunch of different writers involved in doing a collaboration where the characters are stuck waking up in different timelines, so each chapter could be a different one-shot by a different author but they all connect. I think it would be fun.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Sora/Riku.
I don't write for this ship but I will fight god about them. I've been obsessed with them since I was 12 and played Kingdom Hearts. I have fics I've been re-reading for alkjsdflks way too long omg. When I played Kh3 and Riku showed up I screamed so loud it scared my partner. You can pry them from my cold dead fingers okay.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

A Divine Move [Teen Wolf, M, 8,676]
Stiles is a horror game character (based off games like Until Dawn and The Blair Witch Project) and Derek is from a dating sim (Based off Hunnypop lol) It was going to get an E rating cause I had some absolutely slasher ideas for Stiles game and the plot was loosely adapted from Wreck-It-Ralph. So, maybe one day I'll get the inspiration back, but as of now it's just not there.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I have been told I have a very clear writing voice and that I'm very good at setting a scene and showing it to the reader.
I think my main strength is my humor. lol I find myself very funny.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
A lack of confidence alksdfjalksd.
I get so anxious trying to make sure that the movie in my head is being translated into word correctly that I sometimes over do things. Also I have the absolute worst grammar, and spelling omg.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
If I don't speak the language enough to be confident that I'm using the words correctly I just do the "They said in language" kinda thing.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Okay, lmao. Okay okay. It was for the Gorillaz back when Demon Days had just come out.

I have been putting so much work into this fic and it's really pushing me as a writer. I have been obsessed with cult and demons since I was young, probably too young lol, so this is just basically 3 of my hyper-fixations coming together in a fun way. I have big plans for this fic and I'm very excited about it. I've been working on it for 7 months now, and I'm really hoping I can finish it before the end of the year.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?
38 currently, but I orphaned a few in the past and am considering orphaning a couple more of my older ones, we'll see ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
220,579 - holy shit, when did that happen??
3. What fandoms do you write for?
At the moment just Sandman, although I still have some Umbrella Academy wips that I might try to go back and finish before season 4.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
lol I think just due to the nature of them being fics that have been on AO3 for a decade (which... holy shit I'm old 😂) my top five are four Teen Wolf fics and one Voltron fic
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Not really. I'll respond if someone, like, asks me something in a comment. I know I should respond more, but I often get overwhelmed and don't know what to say. So, uh... sorry everyone 😬
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hm, none of my fics have, like, angsty endings... I think the closest might be Now I Lay Me, just because it's more of a hopeful ending as opposed to explicitly happy (although I'm writing a sequel specifically so I can write the explicitly happy ending, so... that's me in a nutshell lol)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I would definitely say Smile Like You Mean It. That one is the most fluffy happy ending for sure.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nah. The worst I ever got was way back in the beginning on some of my Teen Wolf fics I'd get those comments that were like "you should have written it THIS way-" which were annoying but nothing I'd call "hate".
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
lol I wrote actual, explicit smut for the first time a few months ago with Undisclosed Desires. My fic famously will have almost-sex before something tragic happens and gets in the way lol, and even my one smut story is still very hurt/comfort. As much as I appreciate reading smut of all kinds, I think if I ever wrote more it'd be the same h/c vibe. I'm a one trick pony.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Nah, the closest would be in my bandom phase? But I never fully understood if those counted as crossovers or not lol
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
As far as I know I have not
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yup! I can't remember which ones, but I remember approving requests to translate a couple fics.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I did once, and I had a lot of fun with the idea part, but the actual writing a coherent, publishable fic together was stressful. I love just bouncing ideas with people, expanding on topics together, yes and-ing with friends, etc., but I think fully writing a fic with another person isn't really my thing.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
lol it's hard to say I have an "all time" favorite. I tend to just have my favorite at any given moment. Obviously I'm super into Dreamling right now, but I've had tons of ships that I still love and reread stuff for.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Honestly, there's a bunch of batman wips that I started ages ago and still really like, but I just haven't been able to get into them (Sandman took over the brain real good lol)
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I'm good at the emotional parts- it's why I like hurt/comfort so much. I will gleefully spend half a story ripping your heart out, but then I'll work hard to give it back. I think I'm good at writing inner thoughts in a way that helps evoke whatever the character is feeling. And I think I'm good at imagery.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Well for one thing I write out of order, so if I ever do multichapter fics I have to finish the whole thing before I can post it lol 😂 Also I think I struggle with action and plot. My writing is very heavy on character introspection, and I like my fics, but if you take a step back from them not a lot really happens in them.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I personally prefer not to, just because I'm monolingual. I'll either just do the italicized words and "they said in x language" or just say "they spoke in x language" and have the pov character not know what they're saying type of stuff.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Heroes. Does anyone remember that show?
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Oof, I will reluctantly narrow it down to three lol. Now I Lay Me (I love the concept), Sloom (love me some family angst), and Recoil/Release (A Voltron fic that is currently my longest fic, and was another one that I was really proud of the concept and characterizations)

Erm I think that might've been Warrior Cats, *way* back when I first discovered fic!
Favorite fic you've written?
Without a doubt, Supplementations and Upgrades! This is a fic inspired by a Tumblr post wondering what if BioWare *had* gone with the apparent original idea of the geth bringing Shephard back to life for ME2. I wrote the first chapter as a one-off with my Shephard, Rochelle (biotic ping pong ball of death), and then the idea just wouldn't leave me alone! Ended up being over 230k words and honestly it's my biggest project to date and the one I'm most proud of 😁 I constantly re-read it, and have commissioned art for various chapters from @defenestratin! (With plans for more bc I CANNOT get enough of how they draw Rochelle 😍)

Gulps…, hellohi.. confession I’ve been daydreaming about angst recently and that cult leader Geto drabble u wrote only made me think about it even more… <///333 ignore that I’m a little bit obsessed with the mentally ill/traumatised reader + stsg trope but… can u really blame me ☹️ they would be so good and I think they would be the best comfort u could possible have :((
Ok but. more specifically reader with a rough childhood (a lil like sugu.. he def has some sort of daddy/mommy issues i will die on that hill) or some sort of abandonment/trust issues that has a habit of self sabotaging or intentionally distancing themselves. More specifically maybe grown up stsg where they’re a little more mature and have more of a grasp on how to help you better.. maybe reader has a nightmare or something, goes out for a smoke on the balcony etc etc.. sugu meets them out there n. They just have a good old fashioned talk like :( just being honest and vulnerable because it’s late and u just need a hug most of all :(( def ends with him carrying reader back to bed n playing with ur hair until you fall back asleep GODDDD KILL ME NOW ☹️☹️ moments of tenderness/vulnerability are my absolutely favourite thing in writing/shows/etc ESPECIALLY when it’s from characters that usually don’t display those sort of feelings because you just know it means there’s such a strong bond between them…. Can u hear my heart breaking
^^ either this one or reader with trust issues that’s a little cat-like personality wise (which I think fits so beautifully because stsg are the most wolf coded boys ever) who’s fully convinced they’re better off on their own, they don’t need friends or people to rely on. Until they meet stsg!!!!! Because suddenly there are two irritatingly charming losers following you around and worming their way into your heart and you just. Physically cannot bring yourself to deny them, even if it’s a little scary allowing people in. And god i think it would make them feel SO special once you started warming up to them. Allowing satoru to greet you with hugs or pinch ur cheeks… letting sugu baby you a little…… (distant screaming)

ok, i think it just has to be a tie between "only time is ours" and "34 Days", which are check please kent/jack fics about the same pre-canon break-up events, the first from jack's pov and the second from kent's (tho iirc they have different interpretations of events beyond the pov switch, too). they are inherently angsty bc absolutely nothing is good at the end of them.

this is so hard to decide, bc i primarily write romcoms and by the end of them if your teeth aren't rotting i did it wrong. i will give a shoutout to "doesn't matter what we do", a bts jimin/j-hope that is all about just Letting Urself Be Soulmates and then grossing out ur bandmates about it.

crossovers of fandoms that have nothing to do with each other actually kind of squick me - i'm talking crossovers where characters who have never and will never meet are there for no reason (think superwholock tbh, tho i was uncharacteristically a lil into that at the time), not fusions or big universes with diff shows or whatever. it's just not for me!
but in terms of things where it's less drastic (crossing over bands in k-pop, for example) i am all over that, bc there's interesting stuff from real life there! my craziest example atm is a baekho/jun fic, and like, it's not that crazy!

yessssss, my favourite way to create fic.
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
this is an extremely insensitive thing to ask a ship whore like me. there are some ships that REALLY set my brain on fire over the years, though. check pls kent/jack drives me insane to this day. harry styles/nick grimshaw was So compelling. 2012 oilers "kid line" (nugent-hopkins/hall/eberle) went off.
often fandom really makes these ships worth it to talk about and inspires me to contribute. i am often very compelled by one character in particular and just ship them with everyone possible so i can examine all their sides.
What’s a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
hmmmm if i WANT to finish it, i probably will. there are things that i ended up abandoning, though. one of those i'm still kinda sad about was a dylan/mitch/auston sequel to my connor/rystro.
What are your writing strengths?
i write realistic dialogue and i'm great at characterization (shoutout to the mean comment i got circa 2010 telling me to get good at characterization. i did. thanks.) my voice has always been strong, too.
What are your writing weaknesses?
i sometimes slack on depicting the interior emotions of characters. i'm not great with setting or exposition because the brand of fanfic i tend to write isn't a great place to practice those skills. i try to find places to do it, though!
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
it's the norm in k-pop fandom to drop in localization things like honorifics, and i like it because it can communicate relationships between the characters and so that it's not SO divorced from the context the idols actually live in. this is such a weirdly specific question, idk what else to say about it lmao

Favorite fic you’ve written?
choosing between my children? ok. at the moment i'm quite fond of too real to call it magic, a contemporary fantasy au where the main character is stuck in a dream. i felt really good about what i did with the themes and setting of the source material (a mv, so you're only 3mins and a quick google of the main characters' names away from reading this fic!) and the way i developed the relationship. it's underrated af bc it's a niche pairing.

Borderlands used to be my main playground for several years (and I still have plenty of unfinished fics for that fandom). I wrote a bit for Undertale, but not anymore (ran out of ideas). In my WIPs there are a few fics for Gloomverse (a webtoon), Gravity Falls and The Owl House.

Hm…I'd name one or two of my wips that have angsty endings planned for them, but since they're not finished I suppose they don't count…

Either "Hand in Hand", "Matching Colours" or "round and round in circles we go"? I have a lot of one shots that end on a fluffy note, but I haven't finished one where I'm going "yes, this is the fuzziest and loveliest of all 💕"

Nope. At least I don't remember.

Yes, but I rarely make it to posting. Smut is kinda hard and I get easily distracted by building up the premise that leads to it.

NONE, I WILL FINISH ALL OF THEM, YOU HEAR ME. >:D If I actually want to finish a WIP, there's no doubt in my mind that one day I will, no matter how long that takes.

Descriptions, especially of emotions I'd say. Character reflections. And coming up with new ideas! I feel like I'm pretty good at coming up with interesting scenarios.

Dialogue, my beloathed. And smut. I also have a problem of starting a lot of new projects and not finishing/taking long to finish the old ones.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
Depends on the specific story, how it's used and what the author wants to achieve with it. Like in movies, it can be super fun if you know the language.

Officially that would be Undertale. (I wrote only two fics for it, and the first is deleted from the web because it made me cringe after a while.) Unofficially, I've been writing fix-it stories for Naruto when I was a teen…but mostly in my head.

"The Craving of Your Heart" is still occupying the top spot in my heart currently, closely followed by "Follow My Lead".

> If you want to, go for it, but don't rely on Google Translate to do it for you. I typically only put Spanish or Latin in my fics and I have the help of fluent people so that the languages correctly translate. Use the tools at your disposal.
First fandom you ever wrote for?
> In general, it was Austin & Ally when I was newly 14 years old lol. On AO3, it was Teen Wolf (Why Are You Half Naked?)
Favorite fic you've ever written?
It was definitely anchored. It's a newer one but I am so proud of the work I put into it.

On AO3 specifically, seven fandoms: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Kissing in the Rain, Green Gables Fables, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Rogue One, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Cloak and Dagger.
(RIP to that one Teen Wolf fic I posted in college and deleted last year.)

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Listen. I am fundamentally a wimp, so I tend to avoid writing angst because it scares me and I always feel like it’ll turn into melodrama. Having said that, the first chapter in the nothing in the world so well as you collection might win this title on a technicality because I unwittingly predicted one of the sadder moments in No Way Home.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
I am always all about the happy/hopeful endings, frankly, but if I had to choose between them, I think I’d go for parks and rebellion. It’s not overtly romantic or anything, but I just feel like it holds so much hope and promise for the future, and I am always emotional about people finding themselves a home and allowing themselves to be still.
Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
Sort of? I’ve been referring to by land, by sea, by dirigible as “the C&D crossover” the entire time I’ve been planning/writing it, but since Cloak and Dagger and TFATWS are both within the MCU, I’m not sure whether that counts?
I did, however, back in the day, write @compactpersian some birthday fics that crossed over Warehouse 13 with Doctor Who, Veronica Mars, and Elementary (although not all at the same time.) They’re buried somewhere on this blog tho and definitely not on AO3 so good luck finding them.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope, but that’s less because I have anything against it and more because writing that stuff well is very very difficult and not a skill I have.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Yes! I’m always so heartwarmed when someone takes a beat to leave a comment on something I wrote and I want people to know that I appreciate it. I try my best to get to them all, but sometimes on older fics, they sort of fall by the wayside and I do feel a little bad about that.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Back when I wrote Peter/MJ fic, I would sometimes get annoying comments from people who were clearly just looking for an excuse to shit on Michelle as a character, but those were pretty promptly deleted and it wasn’t really an issue.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Thankfully, no!
Have you ever had a fic translated?

Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I don’t co-write, necessarily, but I have a select few trusted friends with whom I can freely riff on fic concepts or AUs and their input is always invaluable. (Technically, nothing in the world so well as you is co-written, but in that case, my friend and I traded off writing one-shots, so that hardly counts.)
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Obligatory shoutout to Sam/Bucky for spurring me to write fic after a nearly four year hiatus and to Anne Shirley/Gilbert Blythe for being effervescent in every universe, but I think the answer has to be Jyn/Cassian. It’s part of the bedrock upon which I bonded with my best friend, so I can’t imagine anything taking its place anytime soon.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
The modern Musketeers AU that features Porthos and Elodie in a marriage of convenience! It is very dear to me but there are so many moving parts that I think it’ll only ever live in my heart and messages with my friends.
What are your writing strengths?
My go-to answer is that I’m good at making the world of a story feel lived-in, but I’ve also been told that I have a knack for throwing in little details in body language or other bits of narration that open out the characters more or reveal something about their dynamics, and if I manage that one consistently, I’ll be a happy girl.
What are your writing weaknesses?
One day, my final sentences will be something other than just the place where the writing stops, but it is not this day.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
It’s tricksy and I really admire authors who can do it naturally. I’m always wary of throwing in languages I don’t speak, because of how sketchy Google translate can be, and the ones that I speak aside from English just haven’t come up organically in any fics I’ve written.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
I posted a Chuck fic on FFN in the wake of the series finale, but I’m sure I’d dabbled-but-never-posted in fics for different fandoms before that.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
At the moment, it’s by land, by sea, by dirigible, both because it’s a WIP that I’m actually on track to finish after years of fic based commitment issues and because, thanks to it slowly simmering over the course of a whole year, I have accidentally put my whole entire soul into it and I hope it shows.

‘not all monsters do monstrous things’
I know this might seem like a questionable choice for a quote, potentially bordering into #notallmen territory and the like.
Truth be told, I’m not actually sure what most people would make of this quote. Aside from the fact that I’m not really ever sure what other people think about anything, it’s also just frustratingly vague when removed from the original context.
The quote comes from MTV’s Teen Wolf, which is probably not quite as shocking a revelation as knowing “I think we deserve a soft epilogue, my love” is from a 2015 stucky fanfic.
In the context of the show, the quote is meant literally; not all werewolves kill people. This is, one could argue, the message of the show, but it’s also hard to know what that means when placed into a broader context. What are you trying to say, Jeff Davis? Who are these monsters, and what monstrous things do they refrain from doing?
And yes, I know, lending this much credence to a low budget teen show from the 2010s is probably a waste of time, and these types of shows probably had more thought put into them by the fandoms than by the actual creators,,
BUT. I reject this as grounds for dismissal. For a couple of reasons:
Firstly, analysing any art is valuable, not just critically acclaimed pieces. Teen Wolf was a massive part of my adolescence, and, for the record, (not that this is an unpopular opinion), season 3B was award worthy.
Reading into things is fun, especially when you care about the art as a whole, even if, admittedly, the original source is mildly shitty. Gays especially, are very accustomed to reading too far into facets of mainstream media, because crumbs of representation are better than nothing. The fandom’s interpretation of the CW’s Supernatural is heartbreaking. Destiel? EVERYTHING. The actual show? HA. It has its moments. (There is SO MUCH I could say about Supernatural, but that will have to be another time because this (whatever this is?) wasn’t even meant to be about Teen Wolf.)
Secondly, (yes yes we were listing things, I get pretty carried away - deal with it). Secondly, this quote, this specific quote, ‘not all monsters do monstrous things’, is one of the most commonly repeated amongst the Teen Wolf fandom, at least in terms of quotes that are meant to carry some deeper meaning. I myself had it on my bedroom wall for a good five years before redecorating recently.
It seems like it’s saying something profound. It really does. What that is, I’ve had a hard time determining.
And this is not in anyway to poke fun of my younger ‘cringier’ self, or a piece of media that is typically enjoyed by young girls and gays. This is to say that i think I may have found an interpretation which may explain why I was so inexplicably drawn to it. (At least in the context of my life. - I don’t know you, maybe you read it as some homophobic conversion therapy mantra.)
Anyway, stay with me here.
That might seem like a ridiculous request to make, this far into a piece that has already referenced destiel in a positive light,, HOWEVER.
However.
The Depp/Heard defamation trial is nightmare fuel for victims and survivors of domestic and family violence. Coincidently, (a very fun coinkydink I’m sure you’ll agree) I found myself trying to detach from my abuser, in real time, as the trial played out and beyond.
I think that is all I will say on that for now. All you need to know is I am a victim of abuse, which has caused major physical and psychological damage to my body.
This is not the first time I have found myself fixated on learning about domestic and family abuse, not the first time I have found myself attempting to come to terms with my reality, not the first time I have found myself seeking to detach myself permanently from my abuser.
It is, however, the first time I have been shown in real time just how many people, not just anons on twitter, but people I know in real life, do not believe me. If the trial had started a mere two weeks earlier, I would probably still be in the thick of that abusive cycle, for I don’t know how many more years.
So it stands to reason that I would be seeking out resources for victims, especially when surrounded by people who are, at best, dismissive of my experience.
I have found a community on twitter, just as preoccupied with the trial, and the verdict, and what it means for survivors. To be clear, the verdict reached declared that even if someone is to not even name their abuser, when discussing their own experience of abuse, it is defamatory to the abuser. The trial was about silencing victims. And it scares me. It should scare you.
Ok, ok, but what does all of this have to do with the Teen Wolf quote?
I’ve read countless amazing articles, threads and such, where people articulate my thoughts and make coherent conclusions; basically they say what I can’t, way better than i ever could.
A lot of what I’ve read confirms what I had already been trying to figure out as a survivor. Some of it is new; definitely some of the vocabulary, but the concepts are things I know so intimately. How easily abusers can fool the people around them, the tactics they use, but also, how willing people are to believe them.
It is easier to believe Johnny Depp,, (derogatory).
Watching all these people I know, people I loved, people I trusted, people I had once confided in, people I was considering confiding in, engage in such vitriolic and relentless victim blaming, was traumatic. Not being believed, not being taken seriously when discussing abuse, is as traumatic, if not more, as the initial abuse.
It took me 16 years to admit to myself that what I was experiencing was unusually bad, and another 4 to be comfortable calling it abuse.
These past few months I have found myself back in my school counsellor’s office, where I was being told to take his words and let them wash over me like water on a duck’s back. Where after 2 solid years of visits she finally agreed that my troubles were not just those of a typical strained relationship.
I am back in my first psychologist’s office, where, much to my surprise, I first heard the word ‘abuse’ used to describe my experience.
The number of people who have had to say the word to me unprompted, for me to even partially believe it to be true is far larger than I care to admit.
Now when I’m upfront about calling it what it is, to friends, to family, to new psychs, they are distrustful of my summation, certain I must be exaggerating. FORCING ME TO EXPLAIN EVERY DETAIL FOR THEM TO EVENTUALLY AGREE WITH MY ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS.
I KNOW WHAT IT IS. BUT PEOPLE DON’T WANT A VICTIM TO BE AWARE OF IT. THEY WANT TO BE THE ONE TO TELL YOU. THEY WANT TO BE A SAVIOUR. IF YOU ALREADY THINK THIS, OBVIOUSLY YOU’RE LYING, OR AT THE VERY LEAST READING INTO WHAT LITTLE THERE IS.
Every time I try to get someone to understand me, I am re-traumatised, only for them to, yes, be sure that what I’ve experienced was truely unpleasant, but in the same breath tell me that ‘abuse’ is too strong of a word. If I was abused, that makes him an abuser. And he’s not. He can’t be.
He’s not a monster.
And this is where my points collide. Two half-baked thoughts of mine become untangled and join together to complete the circuit.
I am reminded of this sentiment I heard in a video essay about racism; that racism isn’t evil, because evil isn’t real.
Monsters don’t exist. Abusers are not monsters. That’s what makes them so insidious. To most people, the ‘they’ve always been perfectly nice to me’ crowd, abusers are very nice, charming, whatever. They have to be. And they know it.
If they show just how intelligent, sensible, and level headed they are, painting their victim as a hysterical, delusional, LIAR, is almost too easy.
They are making a choice. They prove that they can be kind, to both the people around the victim, and the victim, in the ‘honeymoon’ stage of the abuse cycle. They are taking their power, and using it to do what they want, because they know that they can.
And they’re not wrong. They can. And if they were unsure, Johnny Depp just gave them a little ‘how-to’, on a GLOBAL stage.
‘Not all monsters do monstrous things.’
What does this quote mean to me? Being monstrous is a choice. No matter what society sees you as, no matter what you have done in the past, etc…
You can be a monster and still do good. That doesn’t take away what makes you a monster.
This can be viewed in an optimistic sense; you are not your worst actions.
But in the context of abuse, if you reframe it slightly; ‘monsters don’t always do monstrous things’.
You are not your best actions.
I do have good memories with my abuser. It doesn’t erase my abuse. It doesn’t make it less painful. What it does do, is make it harder to consistently believe myself, to say a permanent goodbye.
Two years ago I was about 5 months no-contact with my abuser, still in the infancy of my healing, but making slow progress.
Hearing he was in a bad place mentally, I went back, fearing for his life.
I was angry with the people telling me ‘he’s been depressed before’. I had to do something, I had to be there for him.
My past attempts to disengage had always been reframed as the REAL ABUSE, and I felt as if it was quite literally ME who was putting his life in danger.
I could not be the reason that someone, let alone someone I loved, died.
By walking away this time, by making that his last chance, I am putting my life above his. Which is good.
But it is also an acknowledgement to myself that if he dies without me, he dies. I am accepting this fate. I am taking on this burden of guilt and grief, becoming HIS villain, in order to save myself.
I am holding on to this seemingly unrelated Teen Wolf quote, a remnant of 15-year-old me, to help me stay gone.
Maybe I’m his monster, but that doesn’t mean what I’ve done, what I’m doing, is monstrous.
