Jondaisy Playlist Deep Dive

So!! For the last day of @jondaisy-week, I wanted to talk about the playlist I have for them. I'll be sharing each song, talking about why I associate it with the pairing, and then spotlighting some of the lyrics I think apply to them most accurately.

Here's the playlist on spotify, so you can check it out for yourself! But for the actual list below, I'll put YT links on each song so they're more accessible to everyone.

About the Playlist:

This was originally constructed by borrowing inspiration/songs from another jondaisy playlist by an old fandom buddy. You can find their playlist here! My playlist is in a custom order, and one I'm pretty satisfied with. It's meant to somewhat mirror Jon and Daisy's relationship arc throughout the show. It starts aggressive, intense, and tumultuous, slowly twisting into complicated and messy (or even toxic) love, before balancing out near the middle to symbolize how these two become unlikely allies and friends. And then, a bittersweet, solemn end...

Daisy by Ashnikko

This is a fun starter, mostly because I think it both does and doesn't suit Daisy. Obviously there's the title, which might make this song seem like a shallow choice just for that, but I do think there are quite a few lyrics in the song that are perfect for Daisy. Plus, I love the sound, which I do think suits her pretty well - strong and steady beat, a little dirty, with a nasty vibe. That's Daisy!

Psycho by Lauren Aquilina

I like this one as a representation of Daisy's developing obsession with Jon, once she decides to Hunt him. It's got the good stalker vibes that are well suited to Daisy's pursuit, especially since the voice of the song is very much blaming the object of obsession for her fixation. Also, on a personal note, I do like applying it to AUs where Daisy does just fall into a sick sort of love with Jon and is unable to be normal about it! Uh oh, Jon!

Choke by Royal & the Serpent

Here, we get to the first song that's more about Jon/from his perspective. Super appropriate title, and basically every lyric is perfect for them <3 I think this one is a great song to capture The Woods Scene, given its subject matter, as well as the tone - conveying desperation and fear, the feeling of being unable to escape, but still begging to be released before it's too late...!

Hellbent by Mystery Skulls

Here we enter the sort of toxic/twisted love era. Less representative of canon, more exemplifying how Jon and Daisy are great choices for such a dynamic. I'd say this song is more of a Daisy POV. All in all, great vibe and energy, capturing the intensity that I think this ship can bring out in both parties.

Fear & Delight by The Correspondents

This song is perfect for 'Jon diving head-first into an inadvisable relationship with the woman who tried to kill him that one time', or any other sort of scenario wherein Jon thinks he should know better than to mess with Daisy after their history, but, well... Especially in canon, it's possible he's got some wires crossed after all his weird traumas. Sometimes it's simply impossible to resist the allure of a Scary Woman...

Spotlighted Lyrics:

Jon POV, of course. Who doesn't love a man out of his mind for some terrible, awful girl? This song might represent the height of the toxic love narrative (yknow, before getting to any metaphorical OR literal cannibalism, as we'll soon see.)

Spotlighted Lyrics:

Hot Venom by Miniature Tigers

This one is a little odd, hard to explain... I think it carries along sentiments from the previous two songs, where something that seems dangerous or inadvisable becomes a little addictive, something you feel like you begin to need. There's also an element here that makes me think of their dynamic in s4, just briefly; perhaps it can be seen as a sly hint of what's to come. Especially in the lyrics I chose, which make me think very much of Jon becoming aware of how much he's come to depend on Daisy in s4, as well as how inevitable it is that this brief respite together will soon come to an end...

Spotlighted Lyrics:

Her venom makes me strong Stronger than I am on my own Before too long I'll wake up to it gone Wondering how I ever was happy

Cannibal Queen by Miniature Tigers

A bit more lovey-dovey, both in tone and lyrics, but my favorite thing about this song is that at first glance you might think it's a Jon POV, but I actually imagine it applying most to Daisy (so Jon is the cannibal queen in the scenario, lol.) It makes more sense once you get a good look at the lyrics~

Cannibal by Tally Hall

This ended up becoming a direct companion to the previous song, for probably obvious reasons. We switch to Jon's POV, to a song chipper and lighthearted in tone despite the subject matter. Here we have a Jon who is content to let Daisy take her fill of him...

Spotlighted Lyrics:

Misery Meat by Sodikken

I like this one after the previous songs because it sort of brings us back down to a less idealistic and romantic energy. Devoured by a cannibal, and now you're just miserable meat, a body to be picked at. At the same time, I think this is well suited for Jon because it has an air of dark humor, of begrudging acceptance of horrible circumstances. We settle down and find some strange equilibrium in the midst of misery right before transitioning into a new era...

Spotlighted Lyrics:

As you open up my ribs, the blood flows out like a river You strip my bones away as you indulge in my liver And the more that I am in pain The more that you'll gain And to me, that seems like a pretty fair trade You bite my nervous system ignites The tormenting spite Sacrifices must be made

Spit It Out by IAMX

I love this one, because it sounds dirty and dark and dour to me, with the vocals coming in to evoke a sense of rawness. This is very much the start of 's4 era jon and daisy' to me. They're both crumbling, lost and in pain, and as they weaken, they fall into each other. Here, they begin to really speak to each other and recognize one another as real and the same.

Spotlighted Lyrics:

Monster by dodie

This one feels quintessential for jondaisy. More than any other song on this list, this one feels like it carries their spirit, the thesis statement of Jon and Daisy within the show. To me it's a song they are both singing, not only to themselves or each other, but to everyone, the world. Gnashing teeth as they settle into the reality of their mutual monsterhood.

Spotlighted Lyrics:

Hunger by Of Monsters and Men

To me, this one carries the idea of them both being determined not to feed. It's the beginning of the end for Daisy, given her choice to separate herself from the Hunt. For me this makes me think most of Daisy explaining why she's made her choice to Jon, how she refuses to ignore her own agency in the matter; it's an echo of the sentiment, and them reminding each other to keep it in mind, to keep each other in check.

Spotlighted Lyrics:

I'm Tired by Labrinth & Zendaya

I see this and the next two songs as closers to the playlist. Strength waning, Jon and Daisy find themselves tired of their struggles, and coming to peace with the idea of approaching their ends. It's hard to describe exactly, but I think this song is a good representation of what they both regret: the people they hurt, the things they did, just... the way things turned out, in the end. Quiet, reflective, and sad.

This one is so... ahh... Okay so, the way I apply this song is very much like... I imagine these are Daisy's thoughts and feelings in the moments right after she is shot and killed by Basira in s5. Her spirit, freed from her body, finally severed wholly from the Hunt. I think about Daisy standing over the scene and saying sorry, an apology no one can hear, and feeling all her life's regrets before she is gone for good. I also think, given how things end up with Jon, the voice could very much be coming from him, too. Maybe it's both of them...

Spotlighted Lyrics:

In a Week by Hozier

For the end of the playlist, the only way I can think to explain my feelings are, like... There was a moment where I realized, if we are trying to stick to canon, there is only one 'good end' for Jon and Daisy. Only one way they would both get what they truly wanted, which was to be free, to not do further harm to others, to escape the ugliness inside them and become inert. Only one way for things to end well, for them to be content. This song. For Jon and Daisy, the best ending they could have gotten was both of them choosing to starve to death rather than hurt anyone else, slipping away together in secret so they can die someplace quiet, but not alone.

hey!! yes I did -- for reasons that end up boiling down to not liking how I worded things and making it all seem much more uhhhh negative then I intended to. Sorry about that!

I've been thinking these past few days and if you still wanna know what I WANTED to say but hopefully better worded here you go. Also sorry for any spelling/typos I'm actually on my computer for once so I dont have autocorrect to save my ass. <- can never remember how to do the cut thing on mobile

I think in real life ShinRan would not work out. I want to emphasize in real life, because ShinRan is my favourite ship (despite my occasional dabbeling in Heijshin) and I love them and I want them to work out and this is, at the end of a day, a story about them and their life and how much Shinichi loves her. I do actually consider the manga a lovestory first and foremost, because Shinichis main motivation is to return to Ran and to live a happy normal life with her -- normal crossed out because I doubt they'd ever be able to live a normal life, but you get what I mean.

In univerese I imagine they'd work out similarly to Yusako and Yukiko, where yeah there's a case every other day, but they still get to spend enough time together to make up for Shinichi having to get up during dinner to safe the day or whatever. Shinichi actually returning to his life as Shinichi and a potential reveal where Ran realises that huh he never actually did leave her alone and had good, legitimate reasons for his "absence" -- that would probably really work in their favour. If he actually gets his shit together and works with her/lets her tag along (in case he ends up being a detective like her dad) that'd be a hugeee plus (bodyguard ran :sideeye:).

If he ends up going the police route with a semi regular (???) work schedule and a DUTY to leave, even during, perhaps, dates or whatever, I think Ran could cope with that as well, knowing how her dad used to have to leave her mum and her admiration (?) for the policemen/women in her life (<- so long he doesnt go down the Furuya route and/or joins one of the many, many organisations that would probably beg him for help once the BO is taken down. Like I think Ran would probably be over the whole spy/really dangerous people are after my life all the time thing and straight up beat him up if he tried to.)

In real life though I only see too real possibilties: either Ran gets tired of having to wait for him all the time, before the reveal even happens, (which has,,,sorta?? happened in canon already?? like its a joke at this point, and she does have the patience of a saint but lets be real) -- a girl can only take so much, and having to watch her sit around and wait for him all the time hurts even as a fan. Like at some point she'd be fed up with his shit or, if she somehow managed to hang on, Sonoko'd be fed up with his shit.

Like someone in her life would go: you know what? screw this and make her move on and they'd be right to do it too. Again, love Shinichi, like that's my special guy and whatever, but I don't think Ran, or anyone for that matter, could be happy in a relationship like that. Option two is...well...unlikely to say the least becuase, lets say the reveal does happen before she calls it quits and the BO gets taken down and Shinichi gets the therapy he needs -- unless he stops working as a detective, I honestly don't see them working out.

Finding out that your childhood best friend and boyfriend almost died, multiple times all while trying to protect you and lying to your face over and over again to do that is STILL putting himself in danger again and again??? I don't think Ran would like realistically be able to sleep every time he'd be out solving cases or whatever. And I dont think Shinichi would let her come along either because his main motivation is to protect her and she's already gotten in danger during "normal" cases before. AND SHE WOULDNT WANT TO KEEP WAITING.

So. Either he quits (which I don't see happening, not for lack of trying on his part but rather his ability to attract danger and also his sense of justice wouldn't let him I think) or they call it quits for their own sakes.

But this isn't real life so idc shinran on top lmao in my head they get married and live happily ever after

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): These aren’t my top five (I don’t even know what my top five is) but these are just ships I enjoy and have thought about recently; Karmanami, HayaChi, Meguyada, Gakuren, and of course MAEISO (my number one 😉)

Character I find most attractive: Ahem, uh, hehe…Irina 🫣

Character I would marry: I don’t see myself making it to marriage with someone at all but if it were my choice, Isogai.

Character I would be best friends with: Yada, I feel like we’d vibe!

A random thought: An Assclass x Full Metal Alchemist au because I’ve become obsessed with FMA and I’m obsessed with AC so why not?

An unpopular opinion: Some of the stuff Gakuhou does just confuses me. I’ve seen people explain the reason why he is now and I have very much seen season 2 episode 13. But even then, when it comes to Gakuhou, I usually think “But what was the point? What did that prove? Why just why?” And it’s not because I don’t like him (I don’t but that’s not the point) It’s just…I don’t know.

Pairing I am not a fan of: *Sighs* Isogai x Gakuhou…why? Just why? Not only is it a pairing I’m not a fan of, it’s a pairing I down right despise. Legit, just why!?

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I wouldn’t say “screwed up” but just could have done better, most of the main campus kids. We’re supposed to see them all as assholes but could you really blame them. Since they’re not really reprimanded for their behavior of course most of them are going to keep acting like that. Their teenagers! Teenagers are going to keep acting like assholes if the adults around them enable it. I wish we got to explore the different classes dynamics and stuff. I really think it was a wasted opportunity.

Favourite Friendship: The ikemen duo of course!

Character I most identify with: This answer changes as the day goes on but now I’m going with Okuda! A quote from her that I particularly relate to: “I never know the right way to phrase things or how to express my feelings as a person. But I'm okay with that because equations and formulas always have a right answer. They're free of fussy word games and complicated emotions.” Have you ever heard me say “words are blegh” or something like that? Yeah because words are fucking hard! I don’t know if someone might interpret anything I say in the wrong way and think I’m stupid or something like that and it’s STRESSFUL!

Character I wish I could be: Do I even have to say it? MAEHARA ALL THE WAY! I swear, if I could have even a pinch of his coolness, I’D BE SET FOR LIIIIIIFE!!!

very funny to me that there are literally no canon ships in yugioh. takahashi was like "ok i'm gonna set up the barebones for some ships" and then he just. never came back to them ever. the peachshipping scene in duelist kingdom is so cute and then it just never happens again. iconic. in my mind puzzle is canon tho so i'll go w/ that <3

My Non-canon OTP:

it's still puzzle! they're everything 2 me. in theory i like lots of other ygo ships but i only ever actually read or care about puzzle sorry

i guess it's atem? but that's not the side of him that i like the most, i prefer him when he's just a guy

What I like about them

I love Makoto's arc of realizing she's just a tool of adults who don't care about her, and its not worth it to compromise herself just for their approval. It's very powerful and relatable. I also like her confidence and intelligence. She really is like an honorary second leader to the Phantom Thieves who keeps them grounded. Without her the Thieves probably would have been found out a lot sooner. Akira can be...a little reckless, lol.

Also. She's hot.

What I dislike about them

Ok, before I get into this rant, let me first say: Makoto is one of my favorite Thieves. She's slowly lowered in my internal ranking of them over the course of the past year as I've soured on where her arc ended up and other Thieves overtake her as I grow to better appreciate their arcs, but I still love her, and I say all of this as a Makoto stan.

That said. Literally everything about her becoming a cop. It's not only an insult to Akira's trauma and a flat-out contradiction of the game's core themes, but it also walks back any progress Makoto makes in her character arc. Because, let's face it, Makoto can be a bit of an authoritarian. She's very uncompromising and stubborn in her point of view. Her confidant wants you to think that her friendship with Eiko expands her worldview, but in then the entire situation resolves with Makoto being Right and using her Fist of Justice to force Eiko into doing what Makoto thinks is best. Like a cop would. What happened to Makoto's flaw of being too stubborn and close minded? The narrative ends up taking Makoto's side and saying she was right all along. She doesn't learn anything.

I should probably write a more in depth analysis of her at some point because it is SO frustrating but I'm really tired of the fandom taking it out on her when its the writers' fault for screwing up what was intended to be her character arc.

Favorite moment

Her Awakening, no contest. One of the best Awakenings in the whole game.

Least favorite moment

Any scene that revolves around her dream to become a cop. Especially when the game forces Joker to support her in that goal after everything he's been through.

A situation with this character that I want to see explored more

This is probably obvious by now, but I want to see Makoto realizing her dream of becoming a "good cop" is fundamentally flawed and changing her career goals accordingly, deciding to reform the system in a way that doesn't turn her into just another cog in the machine that nearly ate her up in the first place.

They're like opposites and yet the same (haha, like akeshu). They're just so cute and wholesome. And the Aesthetic is perfection. I adore their showtime.

The Thieves make fun of her for practically running a military state with how organized it is and how stale its aesthetic becomes with everything made of metal and stone. Haru helps liven the place up by planting flowers all around the island.

Makoto becomes like a surrogate older sister to Akane and becomes the kind of person for Akane that she wishes Sae had been for her.

Why don’t you ship it?

I think it's probably because Bill is such a unique villain and throwing him into a relationship with anyone but especially Dipper really takes away from that fear factor he's got going on? like, Bill's not a classically scary villain but I would argue that he's among the scariest and easily the most powerful in any show I've watched. I can see him faking an interest to get something he wants or to screw with Dipper (or anyone honestly) for the fun of it, but I also don't think he ends up in the position where that's the best avenue for him that often (if ever), y'know? also. Dipper is 12 and Bill is a triangle. one of those things, sure, maybe I could ship it, but both? it just feels too silly lol

What would have made you like it?

a) he is not a triangle, b) ...hm. I'm actually not sure. I'm not a fan of sanitizing Bill for shipping purposes but I also just went over why his spook factor is important, which shipping takes away from imo. and I also usually don't ship one-sided or forced relationships so, yeah, I think this one's a non-starter lol. creepy billdip is definitely better though because it's closer to canon characterizations

ASK 2. I will talk about ships now. Personally, I can’t say I am on board with any of them (canon or not canon, but where there were hinted romantic feelings). Like yes, I enjoy some cute moments but I can’t say any of the ships got me invested. That doesn’t mean they are not written in a good way (seeing so many ppl liking them), they just are not for me and that’s it (you’ll see why).

I am number 1 fan of the trope enemies to lovers (and in this fandom only two ships have that trope: GinaxNini and EJxRicky). Like give me anything and an enemies to lovers plotline and I’ll choose the latter, always. So yeah, the fun theory is if the writers say sth like: screw this, we are switching 180 degrees and make these two ships canon (or at least one of them since Olivia won’t be sm on the show; for Gina they could bring Jack back in s4-5, like imagine the Andy Mack fandom; they would be thrilled; the video with most likes in the Gina tag on tiktok is the one with Jack, so yeah). I will say this for the ppl who say that pw or rina have that trope. Nope. They don’t. EJ was at most annoyed with Gina, and about Ricky and Gina, there was literally one scene where Ricky was already pissed bc of EJ and he took that anger on Gina (I find it funny that Gina took that anger from Ricky on EJ when she poured the drink on his head). Ricky was annoyed that EJ found a date so easily. He envied EJ bc that it is exactly what he wanted to do that night, to put himself out there and hated that for EJ it was so easy. When Big Red tells Ricky at the table that he can learn from EJ, he replies with sth like: “Ty for defending my mortal enemy”. Coming back to rina, the conflict is resolved really quickly and it wasn’t that big to call them enemies. The pw conflict was a little longer, but again, none of these conflicts scream enemies to me (for both ships). I’m sorry but it’s not enough. Like compare the RickyxEJ dynamic to either one of this and tell me it’s the same level. They hated each other bc of Nini, EJ hated him bc of the play and they pissed each other off bc they were envious of the other one. They saw in the other person qualities they don’t have.

I would be invested in either one of these crackships bc of the trope, the unexpected plot twist and the fact that I think these characters complement each other and can work well together (funny GinaxNini thought: Gina was able to give Ricky helpful advices when they were about Nini, and not when they were about his personal pbs (the one in ep 1x7); so yeah, usually when someone (person A) gives relationship advice to person B about person C and they work, it proves that person A and person C can work together; it’s simple math, transitivity).

Now coming back to reality, I really wish they’d develop EJ and Ricky’s friendship (but I am afraid they will get maximum a nice convo and kinda that’s it (if they get one)). I am speaking from what I saw the writers did with their s2 interactions. But, maybe, the writers will surprise me, who knows. Speaking of Nini and Gina, there is less hope. Maybe they will talk to each other bc of Jamie. Idk. Anything is possible.

I am curious to see your opinion about these crackships. I wanted to do analyses for both ships and talk about a hypothetical future that can work with the current story (that’s why I said in the first ask that I will go from that premise; I wanted to make one for Nini too (even though for her is less realistic)). Idk if I am still going to do that in the near future, maybe I’ll return at some point.

So yeah, from what you see, regarding ships my hopes are pure delusion and I admit that. Honestly, all I want for this show is to get in a direction where all the characters find their happiness and their potential isn’t wasted (and since you noticed I’m an EJ stan, I hope that they will keep him in the show in a manner that doesn’t waste his potential).

alrighty part 3! i'm really getting through these fairly well and i'm kinda impressed with myself for it haha.

the only ship that i'm like- really and truly properly invested in for this show was rini and that's fine- i bought the narrative being sold to me for that one haha, and i don't always. i'm a huge sucker for childhood best friends to lovers and while they could've done a better job with displaying that narrative- that detail about them sold me even more on a ship i was already getting into.

but yeah different people just like different tropes and different ships and that's okay! my ship is dead, and i'm well aware of that given the fact they're almost certainly writing nini out. so like- it's probably time for my brain to pivot but i'm not ready so here we are. i'm down to wait and see whatever the show decides to do, but we shall see how it goes and if anything can give me the same feeling as rini does...

enemies to lovers is complicated- but i think on a show like this it's always more rivals rather than enemies in any circumstance. an enemy is like- i want a fight to the death. but that's just me being nitpicky haha.

that said, taking the term more loosely, what do we need for people to be rivals? the mutualness of having a rivalry is where nini and gina fail that definition, because in season 1, which is when they don't get along, it was definitely more of just gina acting maliciously towards nini than an actual rivarly because it's not mutual. nini takes gina's shoes- which was an act of vengeance in the loosest sense of that word, but i really don't think nini's singular act of rebellion is enough to class them as rivals. also nini immediately apologizes for thinking gina stole her phone and returns the stuff kourtney stole (and in fairness to nini, gina did in fact steal her phone, so... y'know). someone who could've been actually a rival to gina is lily, because she's actually the kind of person to fight for her ambitions, but they didn't go there.

ej and ricky definitely come closer to being like- rivals bc they both act in opposition, and i mean the basketball scene is the best example of that. ej both does and doesn't see ricky as a threat, and vice versa, so it's complicated. ricky wasn't trying to be the lead in the play, he just meant to be in the play to spend time with nini. ej's desire to get ricky out of the play was a one sided issue. the only thing they actually come toe to toe on is nini. so it's hard to say, but this one is for sure closer to a rivals plot.

but for your actual stuff you're saying... you're right. neither ej or ricky were ever enemies (or rivals) to gina. ej and gina were like- the enemy of my enemy is my friend in season 1. (and lbr- their wonderstudies plot could've never worked out for both of them because if one of them succeeds in getting their rival out of the play, the other won't be because the point is to get ricky and nini uncomfortable with each other's presence. if one quits the other definitely won't.) it didn't even make sense for them to team up... but yeah for sure not enemies / rivals, they didn't have the same objective pitting them against each other, bc they weren't going for the same role, or trying to get the same thing in general really. reluctant allies, maybe frenemies, not enemies or rivals. ricky and gina on the other hand had a single conflict... which was way more about ej (and his home life, lbr) than about gina herself. that said- their whole dynamic started because gina was trying to manipulate him so that she could get nini to quit the show, so it's more complicated than just the one moment at homecoming. that said- ricky didn't ever find out about that, just like nini never found out about gina stealing her phone, so y'know. (i do find it interesting gina never faces consequences for her actions like ej does, but i was pleased to see his character facing consequences anyway bc disney typically brushes over this stuff).

i'm not usually necessarily one for an unexpected plot twist, because i'd rather see something that follows the existing narrative, even if it seems boring or cliche or whatever, but i get why people like them at the same time bc it spices things up.

i don't think gina's advice even about nini always works for ricky, particularly when taking 2.04 as an example, but that aside, i do think that's a trope explored a good bit in fiction, and a fun one when done well. like- usually works lightly inspired by the play cyrano de bergerac especially. the half of it on netflix comes to mind, but there are LOTS out there. if you like that trope definitely look into media inspired by cyrano.

i do think it could be really nice to see ej and ricky actually become friends, particularly with how close matt and josh are irl, but if they really do play into the love triangle this season (which imo isn't as much of a given as people expect), i don't know how close they're going to let them be. i'd be happy to just see one nice conversation between them at this point bc it doesn't seem like the show is willing to do much else. look at gina and nini- they don't even feel like they're really friends then BOOM. one good emotional conversation to close out the season.

i think if they were able to bring back jordan fisher, maybe they'll have some scene where nini's with jamie and she thanks gina over facetime or something for connecting them, or maybe even without jordan fisher? but who knows. i was thinking maybe the show would have gina get some moment of like- maybe in the background she and jamie are rebuilding their relationship even though we don't see him. but idk if i still expect that or not with the shorter timeline and less episodes? we shall see. idk if gina and nini will interact this season. they might and they might not. i think if she interacts with a main cast member it will likely be ricky or kourtney, or both. and it's probably going to be on facetime imo at this point.

at the end of the day, i agree with you when you say these ships aren't likely to happen, given there's been no attempt at a set up for either in our existing, but i don't think that should stop you from shipping them even if it's not realistic. aus are a thing for a reason haha. (i know i love writing aus even for canon ships.)

but also! i 1000% agree when you say you just want the characters to be happy and live up to their potential. it's all anyone could want for a character they care about! i do think there aren't a lot of ways to keep ej around to a large extent without somewhat doing a disservice to his character, but i truly do hope they do well by him moving forward, in whatever way that may be :) i just want the show to do well by these kids. it's what they deserve.

When did I start shipping them: When I finished the attack on Liyue Harbor, but it really grew roots after the latest 2.7 archon quest

My thoughts: I think they could deeply understand each other, their losses and pains. They could help each other, heck Xiao comes every single time you call him to the field and Aether whenever we run into Xiao wants to talk with him a little longer. They are practically one of the more Canon non-canon ships, if that makes sense

What makes me happy about them: The mental image of Xiao catching Aether in the fight at the harbor, how this is the first person he has touched in hundreds of years, how he's been so cautious of his karma and he's worried if he has infected Aether with it, only for the relief that Aether… isn't really human, and that he wants to be in Xiao's arms again and have Xiao in his

What makes me sad about them: just Xiao. How he isolates himself from everyone, that actually getting them together would first be preceded with 100 levels of self hate/insecurity from Xiao in his mind. He doesn't think he's deserving of love :(

Things I look for in a fanfic: I want to find a fanfic that really explores their potential. Like, I want a 12k fic of them just talking. A real ass long deep conversation. I want a character study

Who i would be comfortable with them ending up together if not each other: Xiao with Venti and/or therapy bc we both know Venti doesn't know therapy, he can't be Xiao's "therapist" like Aether could. Aether is the bicycle of genshin, he can be with almost anyone, but Ayaka and Venti are strong contenders for me

My happily ever after for them: End of genshin impact, Celestia is defeated, twins are reunited, Khaneriah is restored, the twins decide to stay for a while, Xiao is released from his contract, and he heals. They get closer, they help each other, they change, out grow each other for the better, Xiao is more integrated into society, and the twins continue their journey across the stars. In my mind, they are simply two people who were lucky enough to cross paths and help each other for as long as they could.

How i feel about him: Tumblr sexy man-esque. He's a little… overplayed by the fandom if that makes sense, kinda like how Oikawa was. Everyone loves him and hates him and they overlysexualize/feminized him. Who he actually is out of fandom is really cool and I understand why he is a fan favorite. I'm excited to see him more in canon

Any/all I ship with him romantically: Zhongli, Traveller!Lumine, AbyssPrince!Aether (these are very specific and the twins can't be changed), and likely a future fauti member bc there is a potential dynamic I could see (but not signora or scaramouche)

My favorite non-romantic relationship with this character: Kaeya and Signora- they have a more bitchy friendship thing, and scaramouche hates his guts, I love that for him aghdjd

My unpopular opinion (NSFW warning): I really hate zhongli/childe being in an ABO au, they are, by definition, switches where childe is the more dominant by the fact that, say it with me, "water erodes stone"

One thing I wish for in canon: I hope we see him before we go to Snezhnaya, I feel like Snezhnaya is going to be the last land we explore besides maybe Khaneriah and I don't want to wait over 3 years to see him again

Favorite friendship with him: I guess… Zhongli. Or the Traveller. I guess the Traveller in canon bc I don't know if Childe and Zhongli meet up after Childe learns the truth or if they have broken apart. I loved that they seem to have lunch together, it showed a closeness. And as for the Traveller, the fact that Childe trusts his younger brother in our care and knows we would instantly take care of this lost child- idk I like that trust

In Supersons we see a couple of kids that are implied to be Damian and Jon's children and the boy has laser eyes and can fly, so I asume he's not adopted. The girl, who calls Bruce grandpa, can also fly, btw. So it's canon (probably by accident) that Jon can have kids and he must have married one of Bruce's kids. What I Thought About "Eda's Requiem" from The Owl House

Salutations, random people on the internet who certainly won’t read this! I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons.

...

...HOW IS SEASON TWO SO GOOD?! WE'VE HAD SEVEN EPISODES SO FAR, AND EACH ONE OF THEM WAS A HIT!

Take "Eda's Requiem," for example. It's yet another episode where I have NOTHING bad to say about it! That's two weeks in a row where that happened! HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?!

HOW!

...But anyways, "Eda's Requiem." It's another fantastic episode, and I'm about to dive into explaining how and why. Just keep in mind, it's gonna require spoilers to do so, so be wary of that as you keep reading.

Now, let's review, shall we?

WHAT I LIKED

Eda’s Checklist and Grom Photo: Within the first second, "Eda's Requiem" perfectly sets up Eda's central conflict in the episode. Despite spending years being on her own and looking after herself, she now has two kids that she's constantly caring over. Eda can try all she wants to say that she doesn't care, and I bet she has in the past. But given the hard work she's putting into getting King and Luz what they need and having a grom photo of the three of them together pinned in her mirror, it's pretty clear that those two knuckleheads wormed their way into her heart and are never getting out.

Eda’s Worried About King and Luz Leaving: And thus, that's precisely why something like this bothers her so much. Eda inadvertently adopted two rambunctious rapscallions (Yeah, I know. I'll get to it), so the idea of them not being around her anymore is going to be terrifying. That is a situation most parents, especially mothers, can identify with. It’s called empty nest syndrome and it proves just how much Eda loves Luz and King that she can't stand the thought of her babies leaving the nest. It's yet another well-made, wholesome, found-family moment that this series continues to excel at each week, making me extra excited for more like it to come...while also readying myself for heartbreak when one of them eventually does leave Eda.

Eda and Raine’s Music: Ok, I don't know the exact instruments that were played during this episode, but I also don't care because it was all (for lack of a better term) music to my ears. Every time Eda and Raine played resulted in melodies that are so beautiful and filled with so much emotion and feeling that I'm honestly tempted to listen to them again, multiple times, on repeat. Shows rarely do that for me, as background music doesn't always draw me in as much as lyrical songs do. Usually, it takes something so extraordinarily composed to give me the desire to listen again, and that's the case here. So huge congrats to Brad Breek for doing so. Seriously, the man's been killing it this season.

Eda’s Bard Magic Causing Things to Turn to Ash: This was assuredly a surprise side-effect of the curse. The fact that Eda can sort of do magic at all was its own shock. To then reveal that a specific type can do dangerous things to people and environments is...Well, it definitely brings up its own fair share of questions. Like, how can she do this? Will she do it again, one day? And are there other types of spells that can be negatively affected by Eda's curse? We don't get answers for any of these questions, and odds are, we never will. But that's alright with me. Because if a show makes me consider these many possibilities after a brief amount of time, it is a show that has to be doing something right. Even if I don't get the answers I want, the fact that it caused such a reaction makes me less willing to care.

Raine Whispers: Hey, would you look at that. Another fun, interesting, and compelling character added to the list of this shows' other fun, interesting, and compelling characters...how is this series so good at this!?

Joking aside, Raine's pretty good. I like Raine. They could have been this super serious leader who lost all their fun after years apart from Eda, but I'm glad that they're not. There are moments when Raine takes their job as leader of the BATs seriously, as one would, but I still prefer the fact that they kept a jovial nature despite how grim their situation is. It's an admirable trait to have, and it avoids the trope of making leader characters boring just because they're the ones who have to take things seriously.

Oh, and also, Raine's Disney's first non-binary character who has a stake in the plot. This is a tremendous deal, as you don't usually see that many non-binary characters in children's animation, let alone ones that hold importance to the story. So it's pretty cool for the writers to feature Raine, as it helps several kids feel as though they're finally seen and respected. And the fact that Disney of all companies gave the thumbs up is even more impressive. I hear people say that Dana Terrace should have pitched The Owl House to more progressive networks to avoid pushback, and while I absolutely see your point, I'll have to respectfully disagree. Disney is the largest entertainment industry of all time, so if you want to make LGBTQA+ representation normalized, you gotta stop making splashes and start making waves. Because if the same company that made three racist cats in the span of a few years manages to say that being gay is a-ok, then you know there's something wrong with you. Yes, Disney ended up screwing over the show anyway. But for that one moment, when kids felt pride after seeing a character like Raine, then, in the end, it's kind of worth it.

Also, if you're still having issues with more representation like this popping up in kids' shows, then allow me to redirect you to the complaint department.

...I made that post earlier today for this bit. YOU HAVE BETTER APPRECIATED IT!

Day of Unity is meant to be a Secret: At least, that's what I got when Raine stumbled over their own words. So if it's true, then I wonder why? Why does Belos want to keep the most critical change in the Boiling Isles a secret? Does he want to make it a surprise for his grateful subjects, or does he not want to spread worry and fear amongst the wild witches? It has to be something big if he doesn't want his followers to even say the words "Day of Unity." Whatever reason he has, we most likely won't know until the future. A future that I grow more and more afraid of each week.

Hooty Eating Echo Mouse: My heart sank in that brief moment when I thought that Hooty intensely screwed Luz over in getting back home. But looking back...it is pretty funny.

Just the suddenness of Hooty eating the poor creature that Luz desperately tried to earn its trust is priceless in how shocking it was. And also, Luz's expression.

That was the look of a young girl who immediately shoved her hand down an owl demon's throat the second the scene cut away. The Owl House may not always be a hit in the comedy department, but scenes like this prove that when it's funny, it is hilarious.

Luz and King Entering the Grand Prix: Not much to discuss here. It's just a cute subplot that adds frivolity to the intensity of what's going on through Eda and Raine's story. But I will say that I love how both stories occasionally interconnect with each other through the many moments of Eda being worried about King wanting to leave to find his father and avoiding any conversation about it. It helps both plotlines feel like they belong together, without being something like "Through the Looking Glass Ruins," whereas both stories could have been in their own episode. Which is neat.

How Bard Magic Works: I really love how this season is diving into how the other magic types work. More specifically, the ones that seem a little vague. I mean, stuff like healing, potions, and plants are easy to figure out, but what does it mean when a witch's talents are construction, beast keeping, and bard magic? We've been getting a lot of clearing up lately, with bard magic looking like a witch can control their environments and enemies through the power of music. Which is fair. Music is pretty powerful in the metaphorical sense, and I actually love that it's powerful in the literal sense when in the Boiling Isles.

The BATs: Not much to comment on these three either. The BATs have the potential to have an entertaining dynamic, but they do very little in this episode that I can't say much other than I hope they make a return in the future. But I will make this claim: Amber is my favorite. I'm sorry, but her screaming "You're not our mom!" to then go, "Bye, mommy Eda" is just too precious for me not to love.

I'm a simple man who falls for cute s**t. Leave me alone.

Raeda (RainexEda): Well, EdaxCamila, you were a fun crack ship while it lasted, but I'm afraid that this is now goodbye. The current canon has provided an incredibly adorable and believable relationship that I would be a monster not to support with my whole bi-heart. It's been real.

Ok, back in serious mode: I love these two together. Eda and Raine are grown-ups, and they still act all flustered near each other as if they were still Luz and Amity's age. It's definitive proof that you're never too old to get flustered near a crush, and seeing them interact adds a sense of wholesomeness when seeing them together as well as heartbreak when they're forced apart. Plus, we get confirmation that Eda's LGBTQA+! Whether she's bi, pan, or whatever, now that we know Eda can catch feelings for someone like Raine, it's yet another case that The Owl House is the most important series to the community. Because having the main character be queer is fantastic in its own right. But having the same apply to the motherly mentor figure? That's is an extra bit of normalization that anybody would be willing to appreciate.

Unique Guard Designs: Not many fans are going to appreciate this, primarily compared to everything else this episode does perfectly. For me, I actually like that you see a few Coven Guards looking differently from the others, as it helps make them less like clones and makes it seem like anybody of any body type could be a part of the coven.

Gus Looking Uninterested when Presenting Grand Prix with his Dad: I am positive that you didn't notice this (I didn't even notice it until someone else pointed it out), but there's something to dissect here. It hints that perhaps Gus isn't as interested in his father's field of work as one might think. If he did, he would look a lot less bored and much more excited to be helping Perry Porter present the race. It could just be the race itself, but judging from Gus' expression, it really seems like the kid would prefer to be anywhere but there. And why would he have that reaction to a race that his best friend is competing in? To me, this seems like an inkling of what Gus' relationship with Perry could be, which may not actually get time to shine, what with how little wiggle room the series has now (Thanks Disney). Regardless, it is interesting to notice, and it will certainly have fans thinking for a while.

Bump Being Smug of Luz Being in the Lead: That's it. Principal Bump looking smug as his human student is beating the students of his rivals is yet another moment that proves why Bump is easily the best cartoon principal.

Darius: First of all, this guy is f**king fabulous, and I love him. *Snaps*

Second, he is definitive proof that you do NOT want to f**k around with Coven Leaders. Lilith may have had her intimidating moments, but none of them compare to the guy who can turn himself into an abomination monster where only magic that hasn't existed before can take him down. It's genuinely scary to see Darius lose control, and I fear for the day when Luz inevitably ends up in his crosshairs.

With that said, Darius' still a ton of fun! He may be threatening, but he's just a flamboyant guy that hates the idea of getting his outfit the tiniest bit dirty. And I love that. I love that these Coven Heads have actual personalities instead of being generically evil. I consider it preferable to make villains entertaining rather than blatantly scary as I'll remember the personalities first and the villainous acts last.

Eberwolf: But this one's my favorite. I told you: I'm a simple man who gets easily swayed by cute s**t. And Eber? I mean, just look at her:

She's just a cute widdle rascal! I just want to pinch her cheeks, give her a belly rub, and--

...Eberwolf is not a cute widdle rascal. She is a strong, independent woman, and I will respect her as such from this moment forward...lest I feel her wrath.

That is all. Let's move on.

Eda and Raine Attempting a Final Performance: This was the best scene of the episode. It looked gorgeous, it shows the dedication Eda and Raine have for stopping Belos, and it says so much through so little. Go back and look at how Eda and Raine regard one another when performing Eda's requiem. Through their expressions and a few short words, you know they understand that if they complete the song/spell, they probably won't make it in the end. And yet, they don't care. They both know bad stuff will happen if Belos wins, so Eda and Raine put everything to the side, both their feelings for one another and the people they leave behind if it means putting an end to a tyrant. That level of dedication...Words can't fully describe how powerful that is.

Raine Sacrificing Themselves Instead: But in the end, Raine can't do it. Not when they know the life that Eda has and the people she'll be leaving behind. It's an extra bit of nobleness to the character seeing that Raine refuses to take away a woman from two kids who need her the most. A tad bit selfish, sure, knowing what Belos has planned. But when it comes to love, the romantic, familial, or platonic, the best decisions aren't always the logical ones.

Eda Crying: Luz crying tears me up, but seeing Eda cry is a whole different level of heartbreak. Like Lilith, Eda has her emotions locked up tight, with the closest she came to weeping were those two tears in "Young Blood, Old Souls." In "Eda's Requiem," she cries but almost quickly stops herself. As if she knows that doing so isn't going to save Raine. That is...even worse than seeing Luz break down after losing Eda. The fact that Eda refuses to give herself time to mourn losing someone she loved is tragic because crying is the most natural way of showing grief. Turning that off isn't healthy, and seeing her do it with little resistance is sad to me. It's sad to see a character I love can easily shut off all emotions despite how badly she may want to embrace them. It's one of those moments that, again, by doing so little, it shows so much.

“No one watches Crystal Balls anymore. It’s all about streaming.”: Oof. Even I felt that burn towards cable.

King’s Message: King's message was the pick-me-up I needed after the heart-wrenching sadness this episode put me through a few minutes ago. Seeing King say who he is and listing all the things he loves is nothing short of adorable. On top of that, I adore that Eda willingly recorded the whole thing. She may not want King to leave, but that doesn't mean she'll sabotage the one thing he wants. Especially not after Raine gave up everything so Eda could be with her kids. The opening scene may prove how much Eda cares about a rascal like King, but this heartwarmingly sweet moment reveals just how far she'll go to make him happy.

King’s Dad Reveal: ...ok, I'll be honest, I did not think we'd get that reveal this soon. Dumb of me to say, considering the number of times I've said that these writers don't waste time getting to the s**t, I know. But still, it's pretty cool knowing that King's dad is alive and well, added with the fact that we've got a fair idea of what he looks like. At this point, it's only a matter of time before we see him figure out where the Clawthorne residence is and witness the tear-jerking moments that will follow.

King Changing his Name to King Clawthorne: Not the official adoption I was expecting Eda to make...but DANG IT, is it still diabetes-inducing levels of sweetness!

Personally, I feel like the main reason why Eda breaks down this time is not only because she shouldn't be worried about King leaving her life, but also because Raine's sacrifice wasn't in vain. Her kids really do need Eda because no matter how far apart they'll be, she will always be a part of their life...dang it, I'm going to cry too!

What those Coven patches really do: Well...that was horrifying to see.

...Writers, if you kill off the best non-binary character in animation (it's a short list, I know), we are going to have PROBLEMS!

IN CONCLUSION

"Eda's Requiem" is--surprise surprise--another A+. The emotions hit hard, the representation hits harder, Raine is a fantastic addition to the cast, and it was all surprisingly cute at times. Season Two is currently on a hot streak, constantly winning with every episode that's come out so far. When a bad episode does eventually show up (IT'S GONNA HAPPEN!), I'll be sure to sing my requiem then. For now, I'm just gonna enjoy the ride.

I agree with your unpopular opinion! Vanitas and Jeanne have an interesting relationship that is both messy and important to the story

I saw gifs of the OP and went huh, now I have to watch it

My thoughts:

Vanoé is fun, plain and simple! They have the classic unlikely partnership and banter that turns into almost-friendship and a “I hate you but I would trust you with my life” vibe

What makes me happy about them:

There is something about characters that don’t like each other all that much to begin with slowly learning more about each other and becoming closer through shared experiences that is *chefs kiss*

also did I mention the fight in the rain? I’m a sucker

What makes me sad about them:

We know that Vanitas dies. Their relationship was doomed from the start

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

honestly not sure! I don’t have many fic pet peeves

Things I look for in fanfic:

I don’t know what it is about VNC but I want more vampire + human found family. Show me the Dhams spending time together. Show me Vanitas baking. I’m usually more of an angst fan but I’m craving domestic fluff

Look, I don't want this to sound bad or be misinterpreted, that's why I'm writing it to you, who are one of the few human beings in the fandom who take more than 5 seconds to think before speaking.

Look, I think I'm just sick of the timkon, I've never been one of those who ship but I just don't care, everyone can imagine what they want, it's just that in this case, it's just on another level.

I'm not homophobic or anything annoying like that, I was among the first to jump with excitement when the first Urban Legends request came out hinting at Tim's reveal.

It's just that I'm fed up, since it became official about Tim it seems that everyone only wanted it for their ships, it doesn't help that the timkon really is one of those ships maked because two characters are close so they should automatically be a couple.

The ship stems from Geoff Johns' TT era where none of the characters were particularly well written, I've seen people who literally only like that run because of the moments they assigned to the ship.

And the worst and what has bothered / surprised me the most at the time of writing this silly complaint, I really just cannot process that there are really people outraged and spitting billis at DC for not putting a ship that is not canon in any way in Titans , that simple, as if it were something real or elemental of both characters.

At the same level of those same people who want to make Kon homosexual from one issue to another just to stick him with Tim and throw the narrative sense in the trash, I don't know what to say anymore, thanks in advance.

Honestly, I'm right there with you.

I'm not sure I can say I'm sick of it. Cause really I'm sick of most of the fandom's stuff.

Because so much of the things are popular is just bandwagoning and that's it. Like I bet you, without finding whatever it is to jump on online, they would not still like it as much and may have a total different view even.

Some of the hills people die on are freaking crazy cause I read a lot of comics and they're often so off the mark it's honestly, so so honestly head scratching.

And I'm not saying this to be like, "yeah screw you TimKon stans", cause legitimately I'm not. People enjoying whatever is good as long as it's not morally wrong. Cause that just means people are enjoying themselves. Which is good in the end.

But boy, do I not get it from a fuller perspective. They were just suddenly best friends in a series without much good characterization. During Y.J. they got on better terms...but not really best friends.

Why...would they be? lol

Neither of them are into the same things. They're quite different. Barely shown just hanging out.

Kon was closer with Bart if I had to compare.

But ships and stans generally speaking. Always have insanely loud, insanely toxic people.

They lie, gaslight, bully, exaggerate, and go into denial about stuff to create this preferred image for whatever it is. Not limited to TimKon. Cause I mean in literally every fan base. In that way.

It's why I stopped being on as much. There's too much about stuff people don't know a lot about and won't let go of. And again I get it. But when you really care about them cause it's a comfort thing or that's just how your mind works, odds are you really won't like it.

I don't find the fun in lying to myself or pretending I find the same jokes funny time and time again.

Just exhausted of fanon. Why do people forget there's a gray area? Sheesh. I'm not into stuff that comes from a janky source at best. I want to like actual content.

Anyways I find people that want Kon to be gay, as in loud ones not all of them, literally just want it for their ship. They don't actually care about the character/characters. They got obsessed with it so much that it's probably not healthy. I've yet to see someone that actually seems to genuinely like the character get so stressed about the ship.

Most of the ones that care about Kon aren't stressed about the ship being canon. Some ship it. But barely nuts about it. Some may want it. But they aren't acting as if they are canon and it's imperative.

That's my experience at the very least.

Honestly, and this is probably a very unpopular opinion, but I think I might have to say Abigail. Like first of all I love every single character on this show so I do still like her, but I'm not into the murder family dynamic, and I was never all that invested in her as anything more than a plot device. She served the story best by dying imo.

hannigram, marlana, freddie/wendy (freddie's gf in the book) lol, uhhh price/zeller... chiyoh/bedelia.

Character I find most attractive:

Chiyoh probably. Maybe Margot. Tough call.

Character I would marry:

I'd say Margot for the fortune but there are so many hoops to jump through before I could marry her what with murdering Mason and all. Maybe I'll say Molly since she seems cool and down to earth and possibly makes a lot of money since it didn't seem like Will had much of a job while he was with her.

Character I would be best friends with:

Bev. There are so few characters in this show I could handle even having a conversation with lol, but Bev's one of them.

I like the "music" on the show lol, I think it works. Actually in general I love everything about the tone.

An unpopular opinion:

Will's personality doesn't change when he interacts with people bc of his super empathy or mirror neurons or whatever. That was an early character concept that got dropped (thank god tbh), and something Hannibal says to Jack while specifically trying to frame him and convince Jack he became a murderer by getting into the heads of murderers (he didn't).

My Canon OTP:

My Non-canon OTP:

Idk lol, this is a show where I can somewhat ship almost any two randos and find something interesting about it, but I'm only invested in Hannigram. I'm gonna say Freddie/Wendy because I really wanted Freddie to get a girlfriend and so did the actress.

Most Badass Character:

Bedelia. Yeah Hannibal murders a bunch of people and has a couple cool fight scenes, Will manipulates Hannibal and is cool about it and also fights Dolarhyde with him, Jack kicks Hannibal's ass that one awesome time, Chiyoh is like a cool sniper, etc etc, but Bedelia telling Hannibal his crush on Will is stupid and manipulating him into trying to kill Will because she's sick of his pining and then waltzing off to get a book deal out of it and then charging Will to tell him his crush on Hannibal is stupid? That fucking incredible scene in Dolce where she get high and lies her ass off and it works? Amazing

Most Epic Villain:

yk season 1/first half of season 2 Hannibal was pretty epic. Even moreso bc it's not so much intricate schemes, aside from his back-up emergency Chilton frame up he'd clearly been planning for a couple years lol, it's mostly improvisation and dicking around to see what happens without getting caught.

Pairing I am not a fan of:

Any alternative to Hannigram. Not interested in shipping either of them with anyone else.

Noooone of them. If anything each character just got better and better and better as the show went on imo, like Chilton lol. Well, Bev's death did suck a little, I think that could've been done better, so let's go with her.

Favourite Friendship:

Cheap answer here lol but Hannibal and Will specifically in Sorbet. Hannibal being paralleled to Franklyn, Hannibal pining to sad Mozart when Will misses his appointment, Hannibal clearly a little drunk when Will comes for his session and trying to confirm his friendship with him after Bedelia refused to call them friends during their earlier appointment... just wall to wall delightful commentary on Hannibal wanting a friend. Incredible episode.

Character I most identify with:

Literally no one on this show is relatable at all imo.

Character I wish I could be:

Hannibal. Dude was living the fucking life and I sure wouldn't throw it all away over some guy who smells like wet dog. I wish I had a tenth of his joie de vivre.
