summary: ethel attempts to flirt with you...

ethel wasn't aware what flirting was until she read about it in a book she found in the city library

it took her a while to wrap her head around the idea of flirting and how to properly do it – as well as who you're supposed to flirt with

but since she was dating you, it seemed like flirting was something she should try with you – or something she should've done a while ago during the courting process

ethel was determined to flirt with you, seeking you out in the city, already thinking about some things she could say to make your heart beat faster

when she finally reached you, ethel greeted you with "hello baby!" and smiled

it was quite a surprise to be called baby by her, but you just greeted her normally, before ethel continued her flirting

"you know, i was thinking we should try counting our shoulders!" she decided, before pointing at her shoulders and then yours, while counting to four

though once she reached four, she just smiled at you awkwardly and it became clear that something was missing to make this pick up line work

"counting shoulders…? oh, you mean…" you chuckled as it finally hit you what she tried to achieve

you started counting again, this time wrapping an arm around ethel as you reached shoulder number four and letting it stay there

ethel took a second before sharply breathing in as she realized what she did wrong and her cheeks turning red from embarrassment that she messed up the pick up line

"i have to touch your shoulders for it to work and keep my hand on it… i see…" she mumbled, clearly flustered. "can we try that again another time…?"

you couldn't help but chuckle

ethel's flirting didn't work as she had planned, but seeing her attempt it despite not being good at it was quite adorable, so you didn't mind her attempting it a few more times…

ethel was well known throughout aionios, as a strong and powerful leader of one of the strongest keves colonies

she was always fighting at the front, slaughtering her enemies with ease

and yet the one time she managed to mess up, she wasn't even the one getting hurt

ethel was being careless, too focused on what was in front of her to realize a gunner from the side

all she heard was the shot of an agnian gun, before turning around and seeing you drop to the ground

that gunner was taken out by another soldier quickly, but the damage was already done

"Y/N–!!" she called out for you, quickly dropping onto her knees beside you

you were badly injured and yet she tried to help you out somehow, pressing her hands onto your wound to stop the bleeding

she was scolding you for being so stupid, for letting yourself get injured while trying to protect her

you managed to get out a weak laugh, seeing your usually so calm and collected girlfriend so furious at you

you survived the battle, but ethel wouldn't let you return onto the battlefield until you were fully healed up again

every day she paid you a visit in the infirmary, each time scolding you for how reckless you were

but you knew she was just doing this, because she was so afraid that she would lose you that day

just like you had been afraid to lose her…

ethel knew what music was before she learned about the city, due to the off seers

but seeing you play an instrument for the first time was something completely different compared to what she knew

to her, music was a tool to pay respect to fallen soldiers, to guide their way and to honor their accomplishments

the music she knew sounded sad, but what you were playing was nothing like it

it was cheerful and happy! the first time she heard it, she felt like it was disrespectful to play such a happy melody for fallen comrades

meanwhile while you were playing, ethel stood out to you in the crowd

while everyone was having a good time, she had such a serious expression on her face while she was staring at you

after you finished performing, you decided to talk to that mysterious silver haired girl in the crowd

it didn't take long for you to realize that she was a soldier of keves

it wasn't just her iris that gave her away, but also the way she talked about music

you ended up explaining to ethel, that music in the city isn't just used to send fallen soldiers off and that it could be used for anything you desire

you can play happy music when you are in a good mood. sad music when you feel down. and love songs when you're in love with someone

it slowly started to sink in for her, but you decided to give her a little demonstration nonetheless

you decided to play a love song for her, singing along to the melody

ethel was listening carefully to the lyrics and the melody, trying to understand it better

both city music and love were very foreign to her, but perhaps with a teacher like you, she could slowly learn to understand those two things…

just a month or two ago, ethel would've laughed if you told her she'd be dating someone from agnus!

yet here she was, in a secret relationship with a commander of an agnian colony…

the two of you were introduced to each other by noah, after both of your colonies were freed from the flame clocks

both of your colonies needed help and working together was the logical choice! even if you had been mortal enemies just weeks prior…

still, as the commanders of your colonies, the two of you began to work together! and that friendship you formed while working together soon began to become more than just that

it was the first time for both of you that you had fallen in love. it was already nerve wracking, but knowing your colonies likely wouldn't approve of your relationship only made you more nervous

the two of you decided to keep your relationship a secret, acting as if you were just good friends, in hopes your friendship would help the colonies realize agnus and keves weren't so different

but despite trying to keep it a secret from everyone, bolearis was the one person who knew you were a couple, even if you never told him!

eunie on the other hand took a little longer to realize she was in love with you, but compared to ethel, she was much more vocal about her crush on you

ethel didn't tell anyone about her crush on you, planning to keep it to herself until the right moment would come to confess to you

but before ethel could tell you how she felt about you, she overheard how eunie talking to mio and sena, mentioning how she wanted to find the right moment to confess to you as well

the only difference between ethel and eunie was that eunie was ready to create that right moment, by taking you somewhere nice and secluded to confess to you, while ethel had just been hoping an opportunity like this would fall into her lap

but hearing how determined eunie was, ethel knew that she had to do something too or she'd lose you to eunie, before she even had the chance to confess to you

eunie however only found out about ethel's crush on you, when she spotted the two of you talking to each other and watched as ethel invited you to a trip to the forgotten colony

eunie immediatly realize what ethel planned to do there: she wanted to confess to you underneath the safronia trees, the most romantic place in all of aionios

eunie was certain of it! after all, that colony had been one of the top spots she wanted to bring you to as well. but now ethel managed to make her move first…

while ethel wasn't the type to confront her romantic rival, eunie surely was!

and that's just what she did, waiting until you had left, to confront ethel. as soon as ethel saw eunie approach her, she knew what this was about

ethel had kind of expected eunie to tell her to back off, but surprisingly eunie wanted to play fair, despite the two of them being romantic rivals

eunie asked ethel if she truly felt the same about you and once she got her answer, eunie proposed something to make things fair: both of them would confess to you at the same time, letting you decide who you prefere

of course, both ethel and eunie wanted to be the one you picked and their odds would be better if they confessed to you as soon as possible

but neither of them wanted to end up with you if you would rather have someone else be the one by your side

they wanted you to choose who you prefered, at least this way they knew for certain how you felt…

summary: ethel tends to work too much and as her second in command, you make sure your boss gets enough sleep!

"i'm not tired yet!"

as soon as you had entered ethel's office that night, she knew what you were here for. you were always complaining she was working too much! and while you did have a point, ethel didn't like admitting that.

"you've been up since six and haven't even taken a single break today" you sigh softly and step closer to ethel, who was still sitting behind her desk.

"because i don't need a break. really, i'm fine!"

in response to that, you just raised an eyebrow and crossed your arms in front of your chest. ethel stared back up at you, putting her pen aside for a moment.

"yeah, i'm not buying it!"

you smiled and leaned down, pulling ethel closer to you by her chair, before grabbing her by the waist and picking her up, launching her over your shoulder.

"h-hey! let me down!"

ethel complained flustered, her cheeks red already, despite you not getting a good look at her pretty face in this position.

"i'll let you down once we reach your room, boss~" you reply teasingly. "and don't worry, i'll make sure to tuck you into bed as well~!"
