I hope this is true. Because it would just be so in line with deciding to be so cartoonishly evil in public right before SAG was set to go on strike as well. A union that really has the power to shut down the whole industry and make them lose astronomical amounts of money per day.
All that Deadline article probably did was make SAG more emboldened to get everything they're asking for and not extend the deadline again.

Instead of bitching and moaning about shows and movies being delayed, how about instead we compile and pass around recommendation lists of older or lesser-appreciated shows and movies to binge watch during the strike?
Like, this isn't the first time this decade we've had shows and movies delayed. We already did this shit in the early days of the pandemic, why don't we do it again?

A word of advice in the coming days:
Given the amount of outrage that is pouring out toward Paramount at this time, in addition to people cancelling their subscriptions left and right, they will probably release a statement in the next few days to try and do damage control. I would put money on them blaming the writer’s strike.
Do not let them fool you. Do not let them redirect your rage. More than likely, the cancellation would have happened regardless and the strike will be used as the scapegoat.
The strike is not the villain here. The strike is not the reason of the cancellation. Do not let them convince you otherwise. It is possible for shows to get renewed AND for people to get paid fairly. It is necessary for people to be paid fairly if you want to continue to get good content.
Direct your hate and outrage where it matters: To the rich white people who only care about fattening their wallets, not about art, or stories, or the people who make them happen.

Crisis: a perspective
Tumblr media
The news that AMPTP has hired The Levinson Group isn't exactly a surprise. The PR agency is, after all, a top firm in crisis management, as many articles related. However, it is telling that what the AMPTP considers a crisis is their image and not workers being unable to pay their rents, mortgages, or qualify for health insurance among other things.
You want to know what makes for a good image? Being a good listener. Being compassionate. Seeing humans as humans and treating them that way. Recognizing that labor needs safe working conditions and fair wages. Cooperation comes before corporation in the dictionary and together, the artists and technicians working with studios have created magic for fans of their works. If a PR agency tries to convince the public that the WGA and the SAG-AFTRA members are the ones being uncooperative in their asks, I would suggest they consider that the public's perspective of what constitutes a crisis is a lot closer to what the strikers are facing than that for which the executives are hiring a spin doctor to heal.

What the WGA was offered on May 1st vs what they achieved through 5 months of striking, if anyone is interested. AI issues are at the very bottom of the document, starting on the bottom of page 6.

Oh, good lord, the AMPTP is planning to call in the Feds to help negotiate with SAG to try and avoid a strike.
SAG has made it clear, however, that even with the Feds being called in, they will not extend the strike deadline again. The contract expires tomorrow at midnight PDT, no matter what.
It's very, very clear, IMO, that SAG knows they have the leverage here. I will be surprised if a strike is avoided at this point unless the AMPTP gives SAG all they are demanding at the last freakin' minute. I mean, it could happen, but . . .
But the Feds being called in to help negotiate means that if a strike does happen? There is going to be lots of work done to try and get it over quickly. Because, as I and many others have said, if a SAG strike happens, the industry as a whole stops completely. And untold amounts of money will be lost per day by each studio.
For my IWTV followers and fans? Keep faith and hope but it's looking more and more likely that those recent posters are all we might get wrt the show at SDCC this year. If a strike happens, the actors won't be there at the very least. It may just be poor Rolin Jones up there by himself (in his producer role -- because the writers for the show can't go to SDCC either).

It's okay to be disappointed that something you were looking forward to has been delayed because of the WGA & SAG-AFTRA union strikes.
But your anger should be directed not at the unions, but at the companies they've walked out on. If the studios had just met their demands in the first place, this strike would not be necessary.
And here's the thing; they want you to blame the strikers. If you bitch and moan about the strikes delaying Deadpool 3 or The Boys season 4 or whatever it is you were excited about, then congratulations, you're playing right into corporate hands.
Be patient. Your entertainment can wait.
And remember, strikes are supposed to be disruptive.

Is it wrong of me that part of me hopes that this WGA strike leads to something beautiful and unique ala Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (on top of getting results obviously, which is top priority)?

Strike is on. Actors will be joining the writers on the picket lines. This is the first strike in 60 years for SAG, and essentially shuts down the entire US film and television industry.
