Activists in Tasmania have stuck up more honest promo stickers inside Coles & Woolworths stores, the two dominant supermarket chains in Australia.

some funny news out of australia i think deserves to be laughed at internationally
the CEO of Woolworths (1/2 of the monopoly grocery chains in australia) did an interview with the ABC
Coles (the other one) and woolworths have both been accused of monopoly price gouging and are being actively investigated by the government
the woolworths CEO (Brad) is a rich white south african who came to australia around the time a lot of rich white south africans left their home country, you know, for normal reasons
Brad showed up to the interview cosplaying in the uniform and name tag all the minimum wage employees of his company wear (imagine if jeff bezos wore an amazon delivery uniform for interviews)
the ABC is government funded - they’re only outlet that can’t be bought for good press
Brad got up and left 1/2 way through the interview after being asked 1 (one) question about running a monopoly
everyone say bye bye apartied brad because he then resigned the very next day

Demand the end of the supermarket duopoly!
We only have a few days to demand meaningful change in Australia's unjust grocery sector, with submissions to the inquiry closing on 2 February.1
Together, we need to seize this moment. Otherwise, we risk sending a dangerous signal to the supermarket duopoly and other corporations cashing in on the cost-of-living crisis that they can continue profiting from our struggles without consequences.

In the wake of the target pride boycott i gotta tell yall some good news. Woolworths south africa recently put up a pride display and some dude lost his shit about it on twitter so Woolworths blocked his Woolworths account so he can't use his shopper rewards and stuff
They really said 'well since you wanna boycott us let's keep you committed'
Tumblr media
And when I saw south africans talking about it I was worried the comments would be filled with hatred but its like 10 homophobic fools and everyone else is absolutely cooking them im so proud of my people

With a deep, weary sigh: so it turns out you can't buy any almond meal/flour product from the Coles lines, because although they advertise it as an "ideal substitute for wheat," on the front of the package it is in fact processed on the same equipment as wheat products and they have to include the "may contain," allergen declaration on the back in teeny tiny writing. No, they aren't hiding their magic, actually-GF almond products in the health food aisle. I did not find a single GF almond flour/meal product in my local.
I'm sure this will not bamboozle anyone's aging aunt who is trying to serve 15 people over the holiday season and is unused to accommodating the 2 coeliacs in the family.
I can't believe I'm about to declare any kind of loyalty to a major supermarket, but even the metro Woolies carry their "macro," wholefoods lines, from which the almond meal (for now, according to its declaration) is gluten free.
