Daemon wants it all!
Tumblr media
Okay, this is my two cents about what Daemon wants:
HE WANTS IT ALL!
He wants his wife
He wants his mistress
He wants his niece
He wants his throne
He wants his dragons.
Deep down (very deep down!) he even wants his brother’s love and approval, but he would rather die than admit that.
And the thing is, I still love the greedy bastard!!!

Story concept: an adventuring group, sponsored and accompanied by a wealthy noble, chases a rumor about a buried treasures from civilizations ago. They do the usual adventuring with suffering and laughing and idiots not knowing how to push door to open. Eventually they end up in a dungeon deep in a mountain where they find a room with only one entrance. There are siege weapons and broken machinery everywhere outside the door left opened. And inside are treasures, gold and jewelry beyond the eye can see. So much so the room can fit five hoarding dragons and still have space to fill and fund another kingdom in there. The adventurers begin filling their pocket until they notice a corpse clutching a note in its hand.
The note reads simply: “This is the treasure of my people. We create a simple room that cannot be opened from the outside. Only from the inside. So that one of us will always remain here, to let others in, lest we lose the treasure.”
Having tested the note to be true, the group convenes to discuss. The noble does quick math and says that it will take decades to even get half of this hoard out of the room. As the sponsor for the group, he declares himself the rightful owner of the room, with promises that the group is entitled to their fair share should they help him get the treasure out. The adventurers, having already encumbered themselves, find no further needs for such hoard. Yet, they agree, leaving their ration behind for the noble to stay and wait as they go back for help.
So the noble stay. Hours. Days. Food begins to run out, and soon after so does water. There is nothing here to sustain the noble unless his teeth can bite gold. What has happened to the adventurers, he ponders. Maybe they plot against him, to wait til he dies and come back to claim it for them. That is why he wants to stay, no one could have agreed to let others in after sitting on this hoard of gold. He won’t trust any of them to stay behind and open the door for him when he returns with help. But the hunger claws and the thirst saps, his clarity wanes with time.
He questions leaving, even half his carry strength can buy him two kingdoms with leftover. But with this treasure, he will surpass mere fellow humans. He could build tower reaches beyond the cloud. He can commission research into immortality. He will have all the arts in the world to be about him, and his name will be the first and last word to leave the lips of anyone. And he would still have money left over. The possibilities. The power. It keeps him here.
Alone. In a dark room never to be entered again.

is there anything you two would give up stealing for?
Hah, that’s simple.
The answer is,
Tumblr media
No way they would give up their favorite hobby for some other possibility. You can throw in the consequences but they’ll never change.

Just thinking out loud, if you have known me for more than like…5 minutes you probably know I’m big into Phantom of the Opera. Not any one given version, just that story as a whole. At any given moment I could launch into a 76 part thesis on it.
You may not know that, generally I dislike Scooby Doo, unless it has actual ghosts.
But it strikes me, these two stories operate on the same mechanic. Scooby Doo is always “its not a ghost but a greedy old ass”, and Phantom is just “it’s not a ghost, just a lonely sewer goblin.”
Idk, different motivations certainly, maybe I like Phantom because “evil committed out of profound loneliness” is a little more tragic as a villain than “wants money and like’s costumes”.
