the og Ghostbusters having little mentor moments for the new Ghostbusters

Loved that Ray was along for the ride in Frozen Empire, he wanted to get stuck back in, and he wanted to help Pheobe and Podcast with the mystery

but it would've been great if just occasionally Ray (or Peter, or Winston, though they weren't interacting with the new guys on a personal level much) just dropped a couple of tips he'd learnt from his time, or just helpful anecdotes from back in the day - the kind that you're confused by at the moment but later make you go "oh shit, that's why they told me"

I Believe...Steddie

I normally don't mind angst (though I avoid drama fics in general). Miscommunication is the biggest trope in romance, so I'm all for it, but for some reason Steve x Eddie fics / drabbles where Eddie still thinks of Steve as Steve THE KING Harrington always sit weirdly for me. Sometimes, if the Upside Down didn't happen (AUs in general) or pre-UD setting, maybe -- sure, then that could work. But close to canon fics where Eddie lives and Steve legit confesses to him? Always just -- strikes me as wrong.

Finally realized why -- it's literally the antithesis of canon Eddie. Canon! Eddie is quick to acknowledge Steve has changed. He literally runs up to him in the Upside Down while a bunch of madness is happening and where he has every right to be consumed by his own shit-tastic situation, but instead, he's telling Steve how he is a great guy and has changed.

Can Eddie be bitchy and prejudice? Yes.

Does Eddie have grudges against jocks / the popular crowd? Yes.

But he also goes full on bowing gentlemen for cheerleaders (going out of his way to help Chrissy and make her smile) and he's quick to acknowledge Steve's not that same popular AH anymore.

With Steve's bitchiness not aimed at him, Eddie would be eating his Honeycomb and snickering when old habits popped back up, and maybe he'd feel conflicted about jocky Steve, complaining about going to games or something until somebody smacked some sense into him. Totally believe tension and disbelief about one liking the other or some bias about things, but I just can't see Steve proclaiming his love or whatever and Eddie assuming it is a trap or trick or prank or something.

Maybe he'd think Steve was confused. Maybe he'd assume they were doomed, but I can't see him blaming Steve for that or blowing up their relationship IF Eddie accepted the confession and they started dating. Eddie's way more down on himself.

If someone can explain how it makes sense, please do. I'd love to enjoy all Steddie tropes, and that one seems popular lately, but where my brain sees so many problems with them getting to the confession point or even a number of big arguments that could happen afterward due to outside aspects, those two strike me as highly tactile, highly clingy romantics who would be convinced they were the height of discrete while practically fused, constantly touching and being snide little judgy dudes together.

Seeing the same people who perpetuated or sent vicious misogynistic hate to Hannah Schmitz, as well as disgusting racist abuse towards Yuki and Alex because of FUCKING CONSPIRACY THEORIES and those who just straight up ignored it, now up in arms regarding whatever the fuck is going on between the FIA and the wolffs is beginning to piss me off. Because now that it's not someone red bull affiliated involved, it's somehow now unacceptable.

[just venting a bit into the void you understand you understand 😌] Lately I've been feeling very caught between "I have a lot of thoughts on Sparrow and Normal and all that with the ending and teen talk and feel like I need to get them out and voice them for my own piece of mind and resolution" and "I am lacking the strength and energy to actually sit down and write it all out and kind of really just want to fully move on to other things (AUs, fics, anything else)" but my brain can't seem to commit to either and that's quite frustrating cause it's just left me very restless. *Sigh*. Idk! Just needed to complain about that a bit ig, it's silly but this is what has been ailing me as of late.

#Then there's also a part of me that's like “does anyone even care at this point? haven't I already talked about them too much?”#but I have seen many a take that irk me...#and perhaps at the center of it all nagging at me is that persistent conflation of love and pride #Less about that in Normal's mind so much as in Will's and the fandom's 🤔#Also that reoccurring issue of the fandom going ''Normal thinks this therefore it is The Truth'' though I believe I've discussed this befor #And... Hooks Will could have grabbed onto but didn't... Quite a few of those...#And the double standard/negativity bias in fandom of ignoring that Sparrow says both that he loves and likes Normal while doodlerized #But not treating those with the same legitimacy we do the pride thing. And ignoring Sparrow's demonstrations of love and change...#And what the love wolf scene actually implies about Sparrow (as I see it) with his own explanation of the pride thing in mind #But also!!! Also on Norm's epilogue and how despite everything taken at face value (i.e. no teen talk influence) I don't actually hate it #and I think it's plenty salvageable #And gah also that like *regardless* of how things turn out with Normal and his dad-#Well I haven't listened to much of the teen talk just the directly Sparrow-relevant clips #so I don't know quite how cynical Will is or isn't about Normal's future #But like. no but thinking of violante's manic state following her murder of ruven and that sick game of association-replacement played by gortash where he acts just like ruven did, picks up some of his behaviours and mannerisms and speech patterns he specifically used with violante and that he knows of well bc he observed and studied them interact, so that he can fill up the now empty spot left by ruven's death.

#rena.txt #LIKE THE LAYERS. vio is visibly not. alright. it's all about 'i'm alone without him' so he plays a role. takes advantage of the weakness so #to devote her to him like she was devoted to ruven. vio could've killed for ruven and now more than ever she's a powerful asset to have on #your side. plus she showed she can and will kill. she took out the only person she cared for (in their twisted ways) in the world so she's #useful but dangerous. a double edged blade. no better moment than now that vio is so unstable and lacks purpose and a sense of community #to lure her on his side for his future plans. there's smth about the manipulation in it that makes me lose it like #i know this is what you desperately need rn and i know you know you will never have it back so what if i showed you i can be that thing #you're missing? that sense of loneliness is what he's pressing on the most. and the loss too. and vio notices ofc she recognises when he #speaks or acts in a certain way. she's aware but willingly letting his plan work bc god. she does miss ruven so sickly much and the comfort #in a lie is preferable to what's going on in her mind in that moment.#there's exploitation and there's a lil touch of loneliness on his side too and it's bitter to pretend to be someone else to convince her to #stay but he won't ever admit it. genuinely think that if vio didn't leave without saying a word his plan would've worked. she'd willingly #pretend he could replace ruven. it would hurt less probably #that devotion that could lead her to do great horrors...both her weakness and strength 👍 the illusion of free choice 👍#it's past 3am if i could elaborate better i would but i feel like i'm having visions at this point.hit me with a giant hammer so i can slee #i 🫶 toxicity in my characters dynamics btw

It baffles me sometimes how Yakuza 0 is about the weight of taking a life and how death and killing is a big deal and then the rest of the series it's like lol no.

Female character? Kill her off with little fanfare and development. Helpful side character? Dies for the protag. Antagonist? Have them off themselves.

Characters whose deaths could've and probably should've carried more weight but we don't get enough focus or development on their character. Potential is often squandered. And yes, there is something hard hitting about losing a character before they truly had the chance to flourish, but when it keeps happening? We can't build on character bonds, that'd mean cutting down on substories!! What do you mean we've done this one before it's different now!!!

Not to mention when the franchise decides that completely fatal wounds Are Fine Actually They're Alive And Well All Along. And, y'know. The Heat Actions. Akiyama has kicked many men to death and you won't convince me otherwise.

Idk I like the franchise but I feel there's a bit of lack of tonal cohesion here and there. Notably.

#smol speaks #smol plays yakuza #you are free to disagree but i cannot take the idea the franchise treats death with weight seriously #every one so far has ended with an antagonist who's actually really interesting and could have so much more done with them only for them to #fuckin kill themselves whilst taking out the ACTUAL villain who is far less interesting and basically always just 'Bad Man In Suit'#just Dude Who Wants Power. which yeah in a franchise about yakuza makes sense but they're not interesting about it despite being the REAL #mastermind or w/e. and then Yakuza 4 switched things up by not even giving us an interesting secondary antagonist so very brave move there!#and of course wasting Yasuko's potential but that's fine I'm not bitter. and before you go 'but what about Sayama/Makoto' they get shipped #off to the States and Hana-chan got made skinny so shh. There's a greater pattern at play here and we can talk about the #writing for female characters another time. i'm just saying there gets to a point where death in the franchise doesn't shock me #it does often disappoint me though. if it's not Kiryu or Majima or Haruka or some other protag don't get too attached cause even if they #don't die you likely won't see them again. also they likely will die because fuck you actually. or rubber bullets. as a double fuck you

A little slice of life of a disabled high risk person in year FOUR of the covid pandemic!!!

My mom tested negative but she's hacking up a lung out there and I don't have anyone to cover the shift!!!!! Because this is my brothers first week off in WEEKS so he already made plans and everyone else either already has their max hours or they're working their other jobs!!! And there's an unaddressed nursing shortage made worse by covid so it's not like I can just!!!! Get more help!!!! So I have LITERALLY no one to cover and I just have to tank highly probable exposure!!!!!!

And that's the reality disabled folks literally all over the place have been left to live in!!!!!!!!!!!

still 5 boxes to go - looks like my becky chambers, murderbot, and my dark is rising box set should be in there, plus a bunch of mysteries, but this is more representative (except don't judge me by the donaldson those were a gift from my aunt & uncle. also yes that is a duplicate grimm's bc it was like a dollar ok, i might want to give it to someone)

then i'll just have the boxes of my dad's books!

.. i'm going to have to get another bookshelf

#and then in order to have them match i will have to move a living room one to the bedroom #and then flip the other living room ones so that the new one and the only slightly less new one make a bookend type situation #bc that's the only way i can think of to get the heights and shelves matched up and it's been bugging me anyway #but it involves even more book shuffling plus probably blisters again #and it STILL won't be enough shelves even if i chunk everything on the 'not a lot of love' table right out #like seriously all my paperbacks are still mostly double-stacked which is okay #but i REALLY WANTED to see all my books spined out please tell me if there are tricks i'm missing if you have tips #because i cannot justify like four more bookshelves - one will be a lot if i go for it - but it seems like that's what it would take #this is nuts how do bookshelves hold so few books? i can't even fit all my liaden books in one shelf #just organizing my fave authors together takes like two entire bookshelves and that's not even getting to the mysteries #then i have the sff favorites that have pride of place and NEED to be in the bedroom plus the shelf of 'kid books'#and that's not even counting the memorabilia stuff like the doctor who and robotech stuff #and actual books from when i was a kid that have sentimental value - like my rule is if i've reada book more than a dozen times #i am not getting rid of it no matter how it's falling apart especially bc so many are out of print #me still trying to find john verney books whenever i have a chance bc i only have the first two of the february series #which ... my february paperback better be in those boxes too >_>
