God growing up and looking back at how you developed is a strange feeling.
I don't know what compelled me but it's 01:30 AM and I went and listened to Your Favourite Martian's 'Smithers Love Song'.
I remember watching Ray William Johnson as a kid and, around that time, questioning my own sexuality, I lived and still live in a village in the middle of nowhere and honestly feared for my safety just THINKING gay thoughts, and I remember genuinely being brought to tears by this fucking dumbass meme song, and it's just a genuinely kinda heartwarming feeling reading through the comments and finding how many other people who were teens in the 2010's were made aware, tolerant and accepting of gay people back during the height of homophobia online, how many people watched this video by the creator of such timeless classics as 'Mr Douchebag' and 'Dookie Fresh' found out who they really were or what they were unaware they were even going through.
Pretty sure RWJ is a clown tho

It’s Fine Press Friyay!
This week we’re digging into our 1896 copy of Alexander Pope’s (1688-1744) The Rape of the Lock: an heroi-comical poem in five cantos, which features decadent illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley (1872–1898). This crown quarto edition of 500 was issued in London by Leonard Smithers (1861-1907). It was printed on deckle edge paper at the Chiswick Press.
This publication is an excellent example of high burlesque, a style of satire in which “a literary, elevated manner was applied to a commonplace or comically inappropriate subject matter.” Pope’s epic treatment of a minor event of social trespass- the theft of a lock of Arabella Fermor’s (1696-1737) hair by Lord Petre (1689-1713), her suitor at the time of the incident and soon-to-be ex-fiancée, mocked the excessive role of social mores and morality in European culture of the era through exaggerated imitation.
Leonard Smithers was a London bookseller and publisher associated with the Decadent Movement, a 19th century Western European artistic and literary movement that prized aesthetic excess, artificiality, and hedonism. In addition to his support for Beardsley’s work, he also promoted the work of a number of controversial figure or the time including, amongst others, Max Beerbohm, Aleister Crowley, and Oscar Wilde.
The Chiswick Press was founded in 1811 by Charles Whittingham (1767–1840), who found success in producing accessibly priced editions of classics. His nephew Charles Whittingham II (1795–1876), who took over in 1840, was known for printing William Morris’s (1834-1896) early work, and would establish the press as part of the Private Press Movement in England, which started in reaction to the mechanization of book production. Contributors to the Private Press Movement championed the material qualities of their publications, lending heightened consideration to aesthetic choices and reviving traditional techniques of typography, binding, paper making, and printing.

Re-reading G!G! for like the third time
Watchmen made 20 dollars a month. William made 30 dollars a month with his news-letter before the events of The Truth and got to spend most of the month kicking around.
It's really weird coming back to these books after seeing how deep the bond between Vetinari and Vimes became and how important the watch became in the city DESPITE Vetinari being directly responsible for the city watch being dismantled as a part of the Thieves Guild becoming official.
It's kind of sad seeing how less and less important Minty becomes. Like when Carrot is sending his letters he always asks about her but as the book continues he doesn't ask as much about her and she isn't even mentioned in the last letter. Carrot is so autism and doesn't handle long-distance relationships well without regular input but I bet if Minty ever came to the city he'd be able to pick things right back up with her as if he had only left last week.
Vimes is such a fucking loser he's a pathetic excuse for a guardsman and it's so weird seeing how this explicit enabler for the broken system eventually turns into an avatar for righteous fury.
I completely forgor that Drumknot wasn't always Vetinari's secretary that gives me weird Black Smithers vibes.

Been literally thinking all day about how Ray William Johnson (yes that Ray William Johnson) released a wholehearted, unironic, unabashedly pro gay song where he shipped Smithers and Mr Burns from the Simpsons, including commissioning a full length animation of them doing things together and eventually kissing.
In the vitriolically anti-gay year of 2011. When people still used "gay' as a synonym of "stupid" without seeing anything wrong with it. And kept the video up and defended it from the trolls for 12 years, as it went from a majority of hateful comments to a majority supportive ones...
???
There is absolutely some kind of "epic win" here, as they would have said back then. Also I think he would have done numbers on Tumblr if he had tried

CATO STREET CONSPIRACY
22-23 February 1820
The Spencean Philanthropists were a revolutionary organisation who plotted to overthrow the government and kill Prime Minister Lord Liverpool. The group of men included Arthur Thistlewood, George Edwards and Jamaican-born William Davidson. The men were angry about the Peterloo Massacre, as well as the depression and King George III had just died which resulted in public unrest. The group of men rented a small house in Cato Street to use as their base and conspired to kill all the politicians whilst they were together at dinner. They planned to seize key buildings, overthrow the government and oversee a radical revolution.
An informer spilled the beans and on 23 February, 12 officers were waiting for the group of men to arrive. The men arrived at 7:30pm near the Cato Street building where the police apprehended thirteen of them. During the scuffle, Thistlewood killed police officer Richard Smithers with a sword. Some of the men escaped but were arrested a few days later.
Most of the men were found guilty and sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered; however, there sentence was later changed to hanging or beheading. The men were hanged at Newgate Prison on 1 May in front of a large crowd. Five of the men were transported to Australia as convicts.
