Please can I request: Kaiser🎆
Thank you! And merry (belated) Christmas 🎄
Thank you for the request nonnie, and merry belated Christmas to you too!!
Kaiser is going to take you to dinner at an expensive restaurant, with a view to the fireworks on the harbor. He's gonna pick your new outfit himself - to ensure you two are matching vibe wise - and just deliver the large boxes closed with a sating bow to you. You'll spend the night watching the festivities from above, in the nicest spot money can buy, only the best view possible. There'll be great food, the most exquisite drinks and the best experience you could have. Kaiser would probably have wanted to commemorate in bed afterwards but you'll both be feeling too full from the food and drinks.

Thoughts on the new trailer (SPOILERS)
Although it's mostly combat views, it's still nice to see some more in-game footage (as well as some cinematics).
Tumblr media
Etuwa already vibes as adopted mother for me, and can't wait to see how she'll interact with us throughout the game.
Tumblr media
Looks like an Iknimaya to me, although Ubisoft seems to opt for a more "peaceful connection" between rider/ikran than the cannon wrangling.
This is just wishful thinking, but to me it looks like there'll be spawnspots for our potential ikran, giving us a chance to choose one (it might also be one of those "go to 3 different spots" missions to underline the searching aspect with a pre-set model. But I hope for my version XD)
Tumblr media
90% sure we'll have a first flight experience. If there's gonna be VR support, I HOPE they include an ego perspective setting while on flight/ride mode.
WE DESERVE THAT
Still can't believe it's less than 3 months until we finally get the game \(Q^Q)/
Which means the statue will arrive too.
I'M RAVING

━ literally dances every dance known to man more like attempts to and when i say he goes ham, he goes HAM.
━ his confidence is super contagious, so even if you're not that strong of a dancer, it will. not. MATTER. he will pull you in for a funky dance and you'll both lose yourselves in it, music booming. you guys receive some noise complaints here and there, but it's not like you can actually hear the rest of the gang sooo (unless the crew turns off the music to get your guys' attention, but more often than not, they cave in and end up joining you two instead <3)
━ ever seen those movie bits where ppl dance in their pjs and slide across the floor? yeah, thats the vibe! doesn't matter where you two are, if you're itching for a good dance, consider it done! many moments of you two trying to crack each other up included. it always involves some form of laughter and lots of tugging each other by the arms.
━ very affectionate in the way he dances and loves picking you up and and swinging you around to the rhythm. try to break free all you want, mans gets all chuckly and squeezes you tight!
━ dancing with him is an experience and he'll do anything to have you enjoy yourself!! won't hesitate to be overly cheesy in his advances if it means he gets to see you have fun.
Tumblr media
Chris Kratt
Tumblr media
━ gets so so sooo into it! he busts some moves so earnestly that he ends up tripping over his own feet more than 90% of the time and drags you down to the ground with him.
━ encourages you to let loose and does this thing where he tries to imitate your own dance moves. you've impressed him with your own moves that he can't help but want to replicate em! it derails into a competition of who can do the most impressive dance.
━ if there's room for it, mans will swing, leap and do all these flips that have him crashing literally everywhere. he gets a little shy about it—he was trying to stun you with his super cool moves after all—but he's quick to pick himself up and get back on his feet!
━ the nerd just adores it when you two dance similarly to creatures you've encountered in your adventures. blue footed boobies? peacock spiders? grebes? you've done it all!
━ makes jokes about "courting" you despite already being in a relationship with you, but c'mon, nobody can resist playing along with his shenanigans! it's not everyday you get to see him shimmy like this, so take full advantage of it!
Tumblr media
Aviva Corcovado
Tumblr media
━ admits with a light chortle that she isn't the most confident or talented dancer and to not expect much from her in the field of choreography, but literally no one cares about how "good" she can dance—she deserves to let her hair down and have herself a jammy jam!
━ if you're like her, prepare for lots of giggles as you two try to learn how to dance. eventually, the aspect of actually "learning" some moves is long gone as you two end up doing whatever comes to mind and just roll with it!
━ she feels very comfortable in her skin around you, so if you do happen to know how to dance, encourage her maximum level! it makes her feel so relieved that you wholeheartedly accept this quirk of hers that she gradually learns to not take herself so seriously! she loves showing off, so there'll definitely be moments where she'll exclaim "watch this!" before performing her own little dance move.
━ put on music like cumbias, urbano latino, tropipop or pop romanticona and she gets all giddy inside! she absolutely loves spinning, so please do take her by the hand and give her as many twirls as she'd like!
━ once shes reached the point where she's become sure of herself, she does this cute little thing where she pretends she's only met you now for the first time in forever as she asks for your hand to dance <3
Tumblr media
Koki
Tumblr media
━ the ultimate dancing queen!! enjoys making up her own dance moves on the spot and it's always the most sensational thing ever. the execution is so smooth that all her moves seem legit!
━ if you two were to dance a song made for two, you better believe she'll be the one taking the lead! very cheeky in the way she dips you out of nowhere. she thrives off being spontaneous on the dance floor and shaking her groove thing!
━ cheers you on as you dance to the sound of your own beat. she claps, whistles, woo's—the whole shabang! she's extremely adamant on making you feel goated with the sauce <3
━ the type to get a hold of absolutely anything, use it as a microphone and belt out the lyrics with you. she goes full throttle with it as if it were a real performance and for a while you two believe it to be true!
━ it's a heavy workout every time that whenever you're both done with dancing, you two just lean on each other's backs as you slowly fall to the ground, heavy breaths and all. compliment her; tease her about how she's got quite the happy feet and she'll chuckle out an airy "shut up" <3
Tumblr media
Jimmy Z
Tumblr media
━ chair dancing! chair dancing!! chair dancing!!!
━ it usually starts out with him listening to some bops on his headphones and telling you to take a listen. all it takes is you tapping your feet or bopping your head for him to disconnect his headset and blast the music out loud for the both of you to hear!
━ before you know it, you two are swirling in your own chairs—hovering literally everywhere and anywhere. a mixture of "whoas!" and laughter boom from wall to wall as you shimmy and wiggle in your respective seats.
━ loves doing this thing where you meet each other half way, outstretch your hands to each other and lunge yourselves around hq! sometimes your hands slip from each other and you're practically squealing like little kids, excitedly trying to come into contact again.
━ sure, you may bump into some walls and tech, but it's never enough to actually hurt you. mercy to anyone who happens to need something 'cause they'll literally have to zoom in zig zags to avoid a collision with either of you.

YO WAIT I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING
do you think the new spooky month episode could be more serious and dark like I know the other episodes are pretty dark but mostly more funny but with deadly smiles and tender treats having pump and skid almost having near death experiences and Lila looking more worried and stressed in the trailer it definitely feels like we getting closer to the serious episodes….
Yeah-
I think there'll still be some humor, it's Pelo after all, but the vibes definitely do lean more serious this time, especially with what we've seen so far
And tbh that terrifies me because as the stakes get higher death is more and more of a possibility and I have become FAR too attached to these bozos

Prime Directive #0 - let's get the ball rolling
Here we go. It's happening, just as I threatened. Let's start our look at Dreamwave's first Transformers G1 miniseries, Prime Directive, one issue at a time. Pray for me, folks, people keep reacting in horror to me telling them about this project and it's making me nervous.
Tumblr media
Some context before we begin our comic today, though. When it came out in 2002, this miniseries was the first attempt to seriously reimagine the G1 franchise since it originally ended in the West. The then-contemporary mainline Transformers fiction was anime prouced either wholly by or in conjunction with Takara, and none of it was in the style of the original G1 cartoon. In 2001, the Takara-made Car Robots series was imported by Hasbro, dubbed, and tweaked a little into the Robots in Disguise cartoon. In 2002, when this comic came out, Takara and Hasbro's joint efforts had resulted in the Armada series. Both were complete reimaginings of Transformers compared to what had come before.
So unlike today, when G1 nostalgia is ubiquitous enough that a common complaint amongst the fanbase is that it's impossible to escape, when Dreamwave released this comic there hadn't been any G1-esque English language media of note in years. In addition, the early 2000s were the start of the nostalgia boom we're still living through today in terms of pop culture, where the process of old franchises being strip-mined for constant reboots began. 'That cartoon you liked as a kid is getting a new comic, and it's for ADULTS this time!' was still a selling point with some novelty to it. The stage was very much set for this to be a succesful endeavour, and Dreamwave was banking on that to be their big break as a comics publisher.
And with that, here we are, folks: the first issue of Dreamwave's big Transformers revival. ...Sort of?
Tumblr media
Before Dreamwave published their first Transformers miniseries, Prime Directive, a 6-page preview was produced to be sent to retailers. If you've followed any monthly comics before, you'll probably know that ahead of an issue dropping, companies typically release 4-6 pages as a preview ahead of time; this, by contrast, is an entirely original piece, taking no content from the upcoming first issue. If nothing else, that gives a good indication as to how hard Dreamwave were banking on the Transformers license being their big break.
The thing this preview is most remembered for is probably that it features five pages of nothing but humans talking, with only one brief glimpse of any robots. We open on said humans in the arctic, a setting which is notable because a) it gives me immediate Bayverse vibes and b) it's very obviously been picked so Lee doesn't have to draw too many backgrounds. I mean, look at this.
Tumblr media
And hey, let's be fair. It's a lot of extra work to draw six whole pages just for a preview. There'll be plenty of other reasons to call Lee a lazy hack as we go through this project, so I'll let him off easy here.
What I won't be as kind to is the dialogue.
Tumblr media
Right off the bat we begin with a very clumsy attempt to get some themes in here. When you're working within such a small pagecount, that's a wee bit tricky. A deft writer might have a conversation pull double duty, telling you a couple of each characters' quirks so they immediately feel like more than cardboard cutouts while having it relate to a wider idea. Since Sarracini is not a deft writer, instead we get a sports metaphor that makes no sense whatsoever and which goes on for two whole pages.
Tumblr media
Decompressed storytelling was a big thing in comics around this time, with western monthly releases experimenting a lot with the sort of slow moving, character-focused pacing found in other examples of the medium, like longer form graphic novels and manga. Unfortunately, a lot of the people who jumped on this wound up not understanding how to make it work on a structural level, and they really just made less things happen per panel and page to imitate the aesthetic elements. Dreamwave is an absolutely stupendous example of this approach. This is all foreshadowing.
What we actually learn in these two pages is that this Lazarus guy has taken the other guy to the arctic. He's some kind of potential investor in a project Lazarus is looking for partners on. Lazarus apparently hasn't explained why exactly wandering around the frozen tundra is important, and the other guy is understandably pissed. It's a little unclear why he came along to the arctic when he has no idea what Lazarus wants to invest in, but here they are, trudging through the snow.
So they argue, and then a very confusing set of panels happens.
Tumblr media
I had to squint at this for a hot second to work out Lazarus is supposed to be grabbing him painfully. Lee is not a master of… much of anything, art wise. And clear, readable action is something he struggles with from the get go. Anything that needs a reader to understand implied motion and momentum has a good chance at winding up a dud.
No worries though. We get straight back to po-faced declarations of The Themes Of The Comic, Honest, which only requires that he draw people standing around.
I have a high tolerance for comic book-y expository nonense. But it's so entirely joyless here. Shoot me, I have to read the entire rest of this fucking series.
On the next page, we finally get to something Transformers related I can draw your attention to, though. There's a full page of them coming across a monitoring set up for something (oh my, I wonder what it could be) in the ice. It's more space filler of no real interest, but this particular text box might ring some klaxons in a modern day Transformers fan's head:
Tumblr media
Now, this isn't an example of 'what do you MEAN, Dreamwave did that first?!', a refrain that will crop up quite a few times as we make our way through these comics. It's true that a shocking number of franchise staple concepts originate in Dreamwave, but the gladiatorial element isn't one of them. That goes back to Marvel, with the UK-only prose story "State Games" establishing it as part of the backstory for both Megatron and Optimus. But it is notable that Dreamwave is going to be where a lot of people encounter this concept for the first time, given that the prior story was not just a UK exclusive, but specifically a prose story tucked away in an annual rather than the regular monthly comic. (And yes, spoiler alert: it will crop up again in Dreamwave.) I would not be surprised to find out the revival of this concept in places like the Aligned continuity owe at least some debt to the idea resurfacing in this series.
Anyway, the comic then tries to persuade us that the thing most of interest when it comes to what can be gleaned from terrifying alien war machines with all the onboard tech and weaponry they have is that they turn into cars sometimes. No further explanation is forthcoming. Lazarus just sort of says this as though it's self evident and moves on.
Tumblr media
Look, making the fact Transformers characters can transform central to the fiction is my whole thing. I want it. When Transformers media doesn't take advantage of that stuff, I am sad. But the degree to which this falls flat is a bit of a warning as to a problem this series is probably going to come up against a lot as we go on, and which plenty of recent Transformers media aimed at fans has struggled with. How do you do things like that in something that isn't made for eight year olds and running on "rule of cool"? Transformers turn into cars and planes and weird animals and such because that's cool to a child who wants to buy awesome toys. It's tricky to translate that into a story aimed at adults that takes itself remotely seriously. In no way impossible. But if you don't really consider how you plan to approach that part, and indeed a great many elements integral to Transformers, you're probably not going to nail it.
They talk for another goddamn page after this and oh my god, this preview should have been three pages tops. I'm not making you read all that. Just rearrange the words in one of the above panels, it's about the same experience.
Finally, FINALLY, we hit the jackpot with the last page: a full page spread of Soundwave, partially obscured in ice as they excavate him. (See? Bayverse vibes.)
Tumblr media
Soundwave is pretty much the single most iconic non-Optimus Transformer in broader pop culture, so that tracks. (Honestly, he'd probably give OP a run for his money.)
And it is a very nice bit of imagery, though they really didn't need those damn speech bubbles down there. But you can see here where the concept for this preview originates. All the build up being so you can have the final full-page splash of an 80's-style iconic character to get the audience hyped up. In the hands of a better writer, that would probably have worked perfectly well. As it stands, the fact this apparently did get people hyped is really more just down to Soundwave being really cool, I reckon.
So that's the preview. It's on Earth, the robots came to Earth a long time before under circumstances we don't know about, and now some shady humans have found one of them. It's a decent enough setup. One so good it's been used in Transformers at least twice; seriously, that is just a description of Megatron in Bayverse, right?
After all this riveting comic content, the original version of the preview also featured some teaser art. This gives us a bit more of an idea what the upcoming series might look like, since we get all of one panel of Lee actually drawing a robot in this one.
Tumblr media
Pat Lee's art is, of course, one of the more infamous elements of Dreamwave's comic. He called his style "anime inspired" a lot, which was a real exciting prospect in 2002 if you were a certain kind of nerd. You can sort of see some of it in his art. In that very 'western artist in 2002 working off an English language how to draw manga book' way that is a peculiarity of the time period. But it sure doesn't look like, say, the Transformers work of Studio OX.
More to the point, his artwork is frequently a mess, with terrible composition, incoherent proportions, very little understanding of perspective, and little to no emotion conveyed by its characters. He tends to draw his robots all very... puffy and inflated-looking, too. This style would form the basis of a 'house style' all other artists brought in were expected to follow. Even when much more competent artists than Lee are to be seen, they'll be somewhat shackled by the restrictions put in place there.
And that's a wrap on this wee little six page preview, so god knows how much I'll have to say about the series itself. Stay tuned to see if any robots get to speak next time!

Hi! About your post with the vp-kp hate, i think it may be about the specific vp fans who negatively compared kp's hotel sex scene to vp's sex scene? I've seen some posts n tweets that were pretty hateful, mostly in the way of "vp was consensual, kp was not", which may be what kp fans are frustrated about?
I know that some kp fans have made posts to battle those people specifically, since some(!) fans were getting out of hand with the hate comments on other people's posts. They would say things like "kp is toxic", "and that's why I like vp better" or "at least vegas did it consensually unlike kinn", which, as you said, isn't true, and an odd comparison to make.
That's also where I think the "vegas king of consent" came from, which is what some people (I think on twitter?) started with, and that some people on tumblr adopted.
But don't let it ruin your experience, enjoy what you love and don't let others spoil it for you. There'll always be annoying fans (sadly), so it's best to stick with the ones that don't care about the drama. Cheers!<3
Hey there! Thanks for reaching out.
Tbh, I'm not aware where it all came from. I've heard how bad the shipping wars have been in the fandom, so much so that people speculate Build's first scandal happened due to KP fans hating VP's immense popularity by the end of the show, but I hadn't seen the show then. I watched it in November and I started using Tumblr like two months ago so I'm fairly new here haha
I can believe VP fans exist that hate KP and make sure everyone around them knows by being condescending and preachy about it but I haven't seen much of that myself on social media. I'm sure this is due to me loving VP and not really caring about KP, so my feed must be in accordance to that.
Since you gave me the chance, let me give my own opinion about both first times:
VP's first time couldn't have been more consensual with these two: Pete was free from his restraints, he returned, he could have left whenever he wanted afterwards because Vegas had basically given up on everything mentally by that point and his seduction was just his effort at taking the attention away from himself.
KP's first time was dubcon: Porsche was clearly in a state of not being able to give consent but he also wanted to have sex with Kinn, hence the term.
Now, the important thing to note is how both of these characters feel after the fact. Porsche doesn't even remember it at first - the first red flag - and then, once he does, he feels awful about it. Ep 6 is all about their talk and how Porsche expresses that he felt violated by it, with Kinn recognizing what he did and apologizing for it.
Pete, on the other hand, remembers everything and never regrets it. What he experiences is subdrop which Vegas is too whipped and on cloud 9 to notice. His solo scene before Vegas comes with the noodles in ep 13 is him being conflicted about why he liked it, why he wanted it, not that he gave in.
That's how I view both of their first time. No offense to anyone who believes otherwise obviously, everyone is free to interpret media in different ways ✌️ Also, don't worry about me and getting my fandom experience ruined. I make sure to not engage with hate and to be surrounded by positive vibes about my boys.
Kisses 😗

I finally had time to read the new chapter and I was in awe!! But I need to know if there'll be some interaction between Lupe and wille because I feel like they'd get alone perfectly. Also, will we have news about Wille's gender journey???👀 I love the way you've written all discussion about it before
hiii i'm so glad you enjoyed it!!
as of now i can't tell you if lupe and wille will interact or how much!! (i did not plan to make lupe a very big character, they're just kinda there and vibing - god knows i have enough other characters to keep track of ahaha) but you never know!!
as for wille's gender journey, there will definitely be more hints at it as they've been so far. i think i've mentioned it in an ask or post or something before but it's been ages so i'm just gonna say it again: wille's gender journey in terms of realising it is very heavily based on my own experiences. so it's gonna take a while for him to get there. a while meaning past the point of when i plan to finish the story
BUT fear not i will definitely write a one shot about it <3

Billy as a husband hcs?
Oh Billy, Billy, Billy. Boy do I have a lot of thoughts about how being married to the greasy rat boy would be.
TW: Some toxic relationship dynamics, brief NSFW lines near the end.
Married Life w/ Billy:
So firstly, if Billy actually marries someone it's safe to say he genuinely loves them. I don't think he'd marry just for the sake of it, or because someone's pressuring him to. Unlike his dad, he at least attempts to be a good husband.
This doesn't always work out though. He can be extremely manipulative. There'll be many times where he will make you think an idea that was his was yours all along, to get you to do things you dont realpy want to do.
He's extremely loyal though. I don't see Billy cheating on his spouse. For many reasons. One is my demi hc's for him, second is his desire to not be like his father, and a third is the fact he's terrified of being alone again.
Billy remains clean shaven until around the time he hits his 40's. At that point, he'll want to start growing out his facial hair for a more mature vibe. If you don't like it? Tough.
He's a hypocrite though, and will bitch if you get a haircut he doesn't like lmao. Too bad though, he'll just have to deal with it too.
Billy rarely loves, but when he does he loves intensely, and it's long lasting. His troubles with empathy don't go away, and he'll still be plenty toxic, but he would tear the world down if you asked him to because you're his. He'll always be in your court and on your side, because he has a very 'Us Vs Them' mentality when it comes to you two and the rest of the world.
Billy could take multiple career paths in life, but the three I find most likely for him are Criminal Investigator (obv reasons + passion), following in his father's footsteps and becoming a Lawyer (bc he already has the connections anyway), or a Celebrity Chef (yes, this ties directly in These HCs Here and no I wont be taking criticism 😤).
Honestly, it'll take a loooong time for Billy to come around to the thought of children if you want them. He has a lot of issues with the thought of raising a family. He's, frankly, terrified of the thought. Why can't it just be you two forever?
And if you're specifically a F!Reader, he has a huge internalized fear of you leaving him and the kids if he messes up. He doesn't think he could handle that mentally and the thought of you being just another whore like Maureen plagues his subconcious.
He doesn't have that same fear, however, if you're a M!Reader. This double standard is largely bc of his internalized misogyny issues.
Speaking of misogyny, Billy does get better with it the more he ages and matures. He'll eventually get over his adolescent feelings towards girls and their autonomy, as he has new experiences and understands other perspectives more with age.
His internalized homophobia is the same way. Marrying a M!Reader forces him to confront the fact that, yes, he is also attracted to men too, and yes, it's okay. This love is real and not perverse and he's not a fag or fairy or whatever his dad would've called him. (he wouldn't want to reclaim those slurs either.)
If you DO have children, it's game over for Billy. He becomes fiercely overprotective of his kids. I'm talking confronting and scaring the shit out of some third grader in the park for bullying his child levels of protective lmao.
But, it's unfortunately more likely that you won't have kids. He's much more likely to do so if you're in a poly relationship with Stu though. Because three people raising a kid could go less wrong, right?
Speaking of Stu, Billy definitely keeps him around. He'll use Stu's old feelings for him to his advantage, something you disapprove of. For example, if you ever have any sort of money issues? He'll convince Stu to help out easily.
He does still care for Stu, of course. But just like he'd be toxic to you sometimes, he's the same with Stu.
Stu would be more popular than Billy with any kids you have, something that has Billy seething immaturely at, even in older age. Whenever Uncle Stu comes around on Christmas time with expensive gifts? It's like: Dad who? Billy what? Don't know her.
Stu's treatment of you will always be positive and he'll remain goofy and fun. However, the amount of bitterness he feels towards you regarding Billy choosing you depends on many factors like if you were friends before your marriage to Billy, how well you vibe with him, if he ever had feelings of his own for you, etc.
Billy loves killing. It's a high like he never experienced before and he'll want to continue unless extreme intervention happens on your end. There have been cases of irl serial killers stopping their activities due to a major event in their lives (marriage or death of a loved one for example) or if a huge turning point in their mental health happens, so maybe you can try and trigger that in Billy if you want him to stop.
If you don't though, or fail, he'll continue and use Stu's money (even if he has enough of his own lol) to cover any suspicion. And of course, Stu will either help out or join in (depending on what's happening in his own life).
Honestly, that's also a big reason Billy doesn't want kids. He doesn't want to give up his passion and he knows himself well enough that he know he'd likely give it up for his brats, out of necessity if anything else.
God sex will NEVER be boring with Billy, no matter how old he gets. He's always willing to try new shit, always willing to put the effort to get you to cum (for his ego and bc he loves you and seeing you in pleasure makes him feel all fuzzy and gross inside), and always ready to go.
And you'll for sure want to do it with him too, bc we all know how well he ages 👀. Man won the whole ass genetic lottery.
Honestly, this may sound shallow, but it's understandable - Billy will want you to keep up your appearance as you age. He puts in the effort to still look good, so he expects you to give him that same courtesy.
He wont be like Stu and recommend plastic surgery or anything tho lmao. He's (surprisingly) fine with an aging visage, and gets less shallow with age, he just wants the effort to look good to be there. Makes him feel like he's worth putting the effort for.
He remains an introvert, and his ideal date night with you will still be snuggling on the couch with popcorn and blankets, watching the latest or classic horror flicks (sometimes with Stu too if schedules permit).

Fandom discourse and culture has changed a lot over the years and I always try to err on the side of caution whenever possible.
The reasons writers create and share their work are varied and diverse: maybe they're trying to improve their writing and welcome advice, sometimes it's all about the ~ S Q U E E ~ because you loved the show/character and wants them in more situations, sometimes the reason is the ~ R A G E ~ about the direction canon took and you plan to murder it and use it's blood to re-write the story; this is more an illustrative than exhaustive list and sometimes there'll even be multiple reasons at once of course.
And sometimes, those reasons do not match or go well with any type of criticism, even well intentioned, constructive ones.
I saw an post on Tumblr that ilustrated very well another reason why one shouldn't simply assume that con-crit is welcome: if you go watch an amateur performance (in the most literal sense of the word of non-remunarated, regardless of quality of performance), one won't immediately presume afterwards to go to the artist and start critiquing it.
At the same time, I wholeheartedly think that one of the most wonderful, unique possibilities of fandom is the capacity for collaborative work between the authors of a story that is being posted as it's written and it's readers, culminating in an end product with quality that ends up being more refined than otherwise it would've been.
That type of interaction is even sometimes one of the main reasons people write fics, to not only create something, but also to share the act of that creation.
That works almost like making all the readers of a fic into beta-readers and can be a wonderful thing, but the post argued that the work done by betas is analogous to editing in published works, and that such a relationship is based on built trust, so while yeah, that dynamic between writer and all their readers could work, assuming and simply barging in is generally more harmful than productive.
When I adopted that new reasoning, I debated whether or not I should then mark all my bookmarks on AO3 as Private and make them inaccessible to anyone else, but in the end opted not to, mainly because even though I mainly write them for my future self, I also feel other readers can benefit a lot from knowing how the experience of someone who liked a work enough to rec it went, specially if while reading that fic they stumbled upon things they didn't like.
If there's one thing I learned from over 15 years of reading fics is that my tastes change over the years, and sometimes it's not even about the quality of the writing itself or even the progression of how polemic subjects are treated at any given time, but rather the moment that I am in changes how I receive the same work, such that tagging a certain work as one worth reading again later with no contextual information on the vibe I was riding when I did that will inevitably lead to a disappointment that is frankly an overreaction on my part.
That happened somewhat recently with a Frostiron fic I read a long time ago, in a moment where I was squeeing like crazy over the pairing (and it was a work of squee, so we matched really well) and it got on my list, but years later, when I was feeling nostalgic over the pairing and went to read my list of besties, the expectation I had was so great that the dichotomy between my experience back then and the one in the re-read were terribly big, even though it was a well written fic, squee and all, and the only real difference was that *I* wasn't squeeing over the pairing anymore.
And at the same time, I found that, in a way, this managing of expectations I do primarily for myself when I create a rec with the bad points of a fic that I loved can also be helpful for others, because even if it doesn't fit 100% since we're different people, I always thought the best recs I've always found were the ones that stated what were the cons of any given story, because those cons might not be something that bothered me like it bothered them or it even might end up being somewhat bothersome to me, but the pros outweigh them and, because I went in expecting to find those things, there's no disappointment in it, so they end up bothering me a lot less then it could've.
The other reason I eventually settled on not making my bookmarks private was actually because of those authors that seek improvement and welcome constructive criticism from all the readers who are invested in their story and value their thoughts and experiences while reading their work, because while yes, better to err on the side of caution and not go offering advice and opinions were those are not wanted, if we let that completely rule everything we do in fandom there will be a lot of loss in regards of this constructive, dynamic and interactive aspect so characteristic and wonderful to this type of media.
I know authors can have access to the bookmarks made of their fics, but unlike comments, it's not quite a space exclusively dedicated to them or even for interactions between reader/author.
In a lot of aspects, I'd even go as far as saying it's a space primarily for readers: it's not something that will culminate in a email sent to the author's mailbox, it serves mostly for filtering and ordering purposes (like when you're looking for fics to read and apply a filter to show only fics with a certain number of bookmarks or to order the fics shown from the greater to the least number of bookmarks) and also so readers can, reading these bookmarks, have a better idea on what's to expect from a work from different readers with different personalities and world views and ways to pereceive what was written.
And since it's a space the author *can* have access to *if* they want, it's possible for them to look at that place to see that con-crit while, at the same time, not being a place where that con-crit will get shoved in their faces if they *don't want it* and as such it seemed to me to be an overall respectfull and good compromise between those two points that seemed very important to me, and one of the only way I've found of making it known if that type of interaction is welcome, I'd be happy to head over to their comments and talk there.
If I'm marking it as a rec and commenting, I'm doing it because I think that fic absolutely is one of the best stories that I had the pleasure to read; however, the number of characters allowed in a bookmark rec are limited, so if I end up putting into it anything besides an incoherent keyboard smash, those things are going to be whatever points I feel are very important to keep in mind whenever starting to read it so that reading experience is the most enjoyable possible both for my future self who's going to look at that besties list and decide on what to read again as well as first time readers who might have seen the rec and will go in knowing somethings that, by their nature, don't tend to be things we tag for; they will have mostly what amounts to con-crit, so if you welcome this type of interaction or if the rec I made is bothering you in anyway, I urge you to get in contact with me through the fic mail I linked in my AO3 profile.
This post is getting linked there because the profile section doesn't allow enough characters for everything that I had to say about the subject.
As soon as I see the email, I'll either be happy to either tag the bookmark as Private so it won't be visible to anyone but myself if it bothered you or head over to your comments section so we can talk better about the points I raised if this type of interaction is something you welcome.
