Bernie Sanders finally made a statement, on Nov. 4, calling for a "pause" in the bombing. People in the replies are saying "better late than never!" and I don't even know where to start.
The genocide has been going on for almost a month. Over 9,000 men, women, and children have been murdered. Thousands more have been wounded. Members of press and healthcare and their families have been deliberately targeted and assassinated. Israel has been murdering civilians en masse with impunity for weeks, both lying about it and blatantly admitting to it. 100+ Palestinians have been murdered in the West Bank due to settler terrorism backed by the Israeli army.
In an interview, Dr. Ofer Cassif, the Knesset member who was suspended for calling for an end to Israeli violence against Palestinians, revealed that he'd reached out to Bernie months prior to Oct. 7th because of the pogroms being carried out by Israelis against Palestinians which he said would result with an "explosion [of violence]", but received no response.
what the fuck do you mean "better late than never". what the fuck do you mean? the genocide is still ongoing, and, just like Blinken, Biden, and every complicit ghoul, he's calling for a pause. not a ceasefire. a ceasefire is just the start of what needs to happen. but he hasn't even called for that.
"better late than never" what gives you the fucking right to say that? tell that to the 10,000 people who the U.S. and its allies allowed Israel to murder. tell that to the thousands of wounded. tell that to the thousands who have been displaced. tell that to the people of Gaza who have been without food, water, and fuel for WEEKS. tell that to the Palestinians in the West Bank who are being murdered at the hands of settler terrorists. tell that to the Palestinians who were abducted and tortured and released with blue bands around their ankles. tell that to the Palestinians in occupied Palestine who can't reach their families and friends. tell that to Palestinians in diaspora who have seen their families, their friends, their people slaughtered with the full backing and support of the vast majority of western governments and media.
"better late than never" no, it's not good enough. IT'S NOT. there are SO many people around the world - both citizens and members of government - who recognized the injustice for what it was the DAY the bombing started. we owe the Palestinian people so much more than that. "better late than never" the ONLY thing that could POSSIBLY begin to even "make up" for the horrors and injustices inflicted upon the Palestinian people for almost a century is to end the genocide, end the occupation, end the apartheid, end settler colonialism, and dismantle the colonial state. Palestinians deserve NO LESS than total emancipation. Complete liberation. until then, it is not and will never be enough.

Just rembered that Stiles' grandfather is canonically named Elias and I'm just... why would they name Derek's son Eli? Why make him so sarcastic and similar to Stiles, distinctly mention him PASSING OUT at the sight if his fangs, give him that strangely close relationship with the Sheriff, and even go as far as to have Stilinski PERSONALLY GIVE HIM THE JEEP???
At what point does it no longer count as subtext?

// attention conservation notice: this post is more inane than usual
I'm at the age my declining memory intersects the ever growing curve of people I'm acquainted with. like I met a person last night I thought I knew from online but they said "but we also met irl six years ago through Douglas and Yesenia" (not the real names)
and I said, shattered, "oh yeah, Douglas and Yesenia" and had to move on with the conversation normally while warding off the cascade of memories of a whole ass D&D social group I'd hung out with while new to Seattle & employed at a Facebook & struggling to figure out my social life. almost none of the group worked at Facebook, but I and this other guy would let them in after work so they could play D&D from like 6-9pm in a conference room
I never played so I can't tell you what tf I was doing with them (clearly one of my social exploration dead ends), but I do remember I somehow became integrated enough that I went to the couple's moving-to-the-Bay housecooling party & put them in touch with my Bay D&D contacts because I could tell, even as a non-player, that Douglas was a great DM
anyway the uncommon-in-combination names unlocked the memories, but if more time had passed or the names had been more common or if the person had said just "Douglas" I wouldn't have remembered, you know? That's freaky!
and it's just an early taste of loss, too

As a who and trek fan, if you go for classic who I suggest starting with either 3’s era (s7-11) or 4’s era (s12-18), with a bigger emphasis on 4 because his stories are more bite sized (4-6 22 minutes episodes each serial) and then continuing until you finish 7 or watch 8’s movie before going back to watch 1, 2 and 3. 3’s era imo is best viewed after having a feel for what the series is normally like. (3’s era’s initial gimmick is that he’s stuck on earth. And I don’t mean like there’s just a lot of stories that take place on earth, I mean the TARDIS is busted and he’s stuck in the early 1970s.)
ty for the recommendations!! i appreciate it n ill keep it in mind – but jsyk don't count on me getting into it anytime soon haha i said id watch star trek for probably about a decade and only just watched tos all the way through a few months ago...... and ive still got so much star trek left and my attention is hard to divide between things lmao

The other thing with Qin Su is that she's let down so profoundly by everyone around her, who all keep information from her For Her Own Good but also (even moreso) out of fear for themselves. Madame Qin never tells her--ostensibly out of fear for Qin Su's reputation, but also out of fear for how Qin Cangye will react and/or how Jin Guangshan himself will react. Jin Guangyao himself never tells her--also ostensibly out of fear for Qin Su's reputation, but also out of fear for his own standing and, again, how JGS would react. Bicao never tells her--again out of fear for Qin Su's reputation, but also out of fear for repercussions from Madame Qin for breaking her confidence, or from Qin Cangye for keeping the secret in the first place, or even (once more!) from perennial source of angst Jin Guangshan.*
Like, that is three people who could at any time have clued her in, and they didn't! They made the decision for her! They all have compelling reasons to have made that decision,** but it's still a betrayal of trust. She must have felt so alone when she got that letter. And when her husband's response to all of this is to tell her not to worry about it and neither confirm nor deny murdering their son, and the rest of the gentry seem thoroughly uninterested in her behavior, and she doesn't have much of a family network left***... is it any wonder that she's feeling so desperate in that moment that stabbing herself seems like the best option? Everybody's preoccupied with something else up to and beyond the moment of her death, and it's awful.
*I do find it interesting that JGY himself never throws Madame Qin under the bus, at least not in CQL canon. He could have said "well! if her own mother didn't tell her, how could you expect me to?" but he doesn't! He brings it back to his father and simply says that Madame Qin feared to come forward sooner/more publicly because of JGS.
**Obviously JGY's the most culpable in CQL canon; regardless of when you they may have first had sex, he very much sleeps with her after he knows the situation (despite his own discomfort, which makes this an absolutely wretched plot point from every angle). But even there, he's not the only one who has the information.
***What happens to Qin Cangye anyway? Is her dad in all but genetics still around? What does he think about this?

Talking a little bit about 'boycotting Eurovision' under Keep Reading, feel free to scroll down if is not what you want to see.
The most used argument on the matter of banning Israel from Eurovision is the fact that Russia got banned from Eurovision, which is the worst argument anyone could bring.
Kindly reminder that Russia didn't get banned because of the war with Ukraine. Russia got banned because many countries has threatened to withdraw from the competition. Sadly, that's a big difference.
Yes, the countries has threatened to withdraw because they support Ukraine and see Russia as the party in the wrong. That was their reason. EBU's reason for banning Russian was because those countries threatened to withdraw, not because the war was bad and Russia must be stopped.
This situation isn't the same. Why? Because many countries support Israel in their genocide. Because this time around Palestine is the party in the wrong. Because we're taught to believe that Israel isn't in the wrong here.**
Boycotting Eurovision won't work. There are people out there who don't know the truth and want to watch Eurovision. There are people out there who don't care and will watch Eurovision regardless of the situation. There are people out there who, despite having the facts, still don't see Israel as the bad guy in this situation and will watch Eurovision. Sadly, boycotting won't work unless everyone does it.
The only way Israel will get banned, in my opinion, is by going through the same thing as Russia. If other countries threatened to withdraw- and not any countries, but the ones investing the most in Eurovision, then yes. That will get Israel banned.
Otherwise? The only thing we do is hurt artists that don't deserve it. Artists who use Eurovision as a way to get more exposure and experience. Artists who deserve to be heard.
Don't vote for Israel's entry. Don't stream their song either. Heck, turn off the TV when is their turn to perform.
**This whole situation (the war, not Eurovision) isn't only black and white. Civilians die daily because of this, all of them from both sides. Innocent people who has no fault. Let's not forget that
