Disabled people are never obligated to quell others curiousity
"Just over 6.8 million community-resident Americans use assistive devices to  help them with mobility. This group comprises 1.7 million wheelchair or scooter  riders and 6.1 million users of other mobility devices, such as canes, crutches,  and walkers." (Disability Statistics Center).
While the disability community is diverse, ”the disabled guy" stereotype generally involves being in a  wheelchair. It's visual storytelling shorthand. There are more specific disability  stereotypes, such as being blind giving you a 6th sense, and autism accompanied by savant syndrome.
The wheelchair-bound stereotype is the most prevalent in my life because my form of cerebral palsy has always included mobility aids. I had the most exposure to the  disability community at camp every summer.
Even through those experiences of  making friends and seeing what they could do, I still saw it as a failure when I first sat in a wheelchair.
Just because you know a disabled person, an Asian  person, etc. it doesn't mean you can't be ableist or racist. Accepting an individual is different than being aware of how stereotypes might affect your  behavior. People don't like to acknowledge our failures.
As a child, I was at least as "curious" about other disabilities as my able-bodied peers. Everyone learns from the media. I have the same questions about specific disabilities, such as visual impairments or hard-of-hearing people, that  others without disabilities have.
However, that doesn't make it right for me to ask invasive questions of other disabled people.
Internalizing ableism is complex. In the media, a hierarchy of identities is reinforced, and I am set up to  internalize where society "fits me in”, among the disabled. "Disability hierarchy is  not about disability type alone, but rather a complex, intersectional differential  valuation of disabled people regarding who can and cannot or should and  should not be accommodated and integrated into a society based on various  factors." (Schalk, 408)
I can only speak from my experience. What I know about  disability stereotypes and what questions annoy me the most do not necessarily transfer to other people.

The Cost-Effectiveness of Non-Emergency Medical Transportation: A Win-Win Solution
Introduction: Understanding the Importance of Non-Emergency Medical Transportation
Non-emergency medical transportation refers to specialized services designed to transport patients not in immediate need of emergency care. These services cater to individuals with chronic illnesses, disabilities, or limited mobility, ensuring they can access necessary healthcare services without complications.
One of the primary advantages of NEMT is its cost-effectiveness. Dedicated medical transportation services offer a more efficient and affordable solution for patients than emergency ambulances or private vehicles. Using specially equipped cars and trained personnel, NEMT providers can safely transport patients while minimizing unnecessary expenses.
Furthermore, non-emergency medical transportation ensures that patients receive timely and consistent care. Many individuals need help accessing healthcare due to a lack of personal transportation or physical limitations. NEMT bridges this gap by providing reliable transport options tailored to their needs.
This section will explore the various aspects and benefits of non-emergency medical transportation. From understanding how these services operate to examining their impact on patient outcomes and overall healthcare system efficiency, we will explore why NEMT is an indispensable component of modern healthcare.
The Benefits and Cost Savings of Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Services
Moreover, NEMT services contribute to improved health outcomes for patients. By providing timely transportation to medical appointments, these services enable patients to receive necessary care promptly. This can prevent missed or delayed appointments, ensuring that patients receive the treatment they need when they need it. As a result, health conditions can be managed more effectively, leading to better health outcomes for individuals and potentially reducing the need for more expensive emergency interventions.
In addition to improving patient satisfaction and health outcomes, NEMT services offer significant cost savings opportunities. By efficiently coordinating transportation resources and optimizing routes, these services help reduce unnecessary expenses associated with missed or delayed appointments. Moreover, by providing reliable transportation options for non-emergency medical needs, NEMT helps divert unnecessary emergency room visits, which can be costly for individuals and healthcare systems.
Reducing Healthcare Costs through Non-Emergency Medical Transportation
In today's healthcare landscape, finding innovative solutions to reduce costs while improving patient outcomes is paramount. One area with great potential for cost savings is non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT). NEMT has emerged as a critical strategy for cost containment and improved patient care by providing access to preventive care and reducing hospital readmissions.
The ability to offer reliable transportation options for patients requiring non-emergency medical transportation in Houston, Texas services can significantly impact healthcare cost savings. By ensuring that individuals have access to preventive care appointments, such as regular check-ups or screenings, NEMT helps identify health issues early when they are more manageable and less costly to treat. This proactive approach improves patient outcomes and reduces the need for expensive emergency interventions down the line.
Furthermore, NEMT is crucial in diverting patients from emergency rooms when their conditions do not warrant such acute care. Emergency room visits are often associated with high costs and can contribute to hospital overcrowding. By providing alternative transportation options for patients who require non-urgent medical attention, NEMT helps alleviate the strain on emergency departments while ensuring that patients receive appropriate care in a more cost-effective setting.
 2. Improving Patient Satisfaction with Convenient and Affordable Transportation Options
Accessibility for disabled patients is a crucial consideration when it comes to transportation. Many patients with disabilities face challenges accessing public transport or arranging for private transportation that meets their needs. By providing convenient and accessible transportation options, healthcare facilities can ensure all patients have equal access to quality care.
Door-to-door service eliminates the stress and inconvenience of navigating unfamiliar routes or finding parking at medical facilities. Patients can rely on reliable transportation services that pick them up from their doorstep and drop them off at their destination. This not only saves time but also reduces anxiety, especially for elderly or disabled patients who may have difficulty traveling independently.
Personalized care extends beyond medical treatment to encompass every aspect of the patient's journey. By offering tailored transportation services, healthcare providers demonstrate their commitment to going above and beyond in meeting patient needs. Whether it's accommodating specific mobility requirements or providing additional assistance during transit, personalized care ensures that each patient feels valued and supported throughout their entire experience
3. Enhancing Health Outcomes by Ensuring Regular Healthcare Appointments and Treatment Sessions
Regular healthcare appointments and treatment sessions are crucial in enhancing health outcomes. However, many individuals struggle with disease management due to various reasons such as forgetfulness, lack of motivation, or difficulty in adhering to medication schedules.
To address these challenges, healthcare providers increasingly leverage technology to support disease management. By utilizing digital platforms and mobile applications, patients can receive reminders for regular follow-ups and check-ups. These reminders serve as gentle nudges that help individuals stay on track with their healthcare appointments.
Moreover, technology-enabled solutions can significantly improve medication adherence rates. Patients are reminded to take their medications on time using intelligent pill dispensers or medication reminder apps. This ensures that they receive the full benefit of their prescribed treatment and reduces the risk of complications or relapses.
Selecting the Right Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Provider for Cost-Effective Solutions
Regarding non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT), selecting the right provider is crucial for cost-effective solutions. The selection process involves carefully considering various factors, including cost analysis, comparison, and quality assurance measures.
Cost analysis and comparison are significant in determining the most suitable NEMT provider. It is essential to evaluate pricing structures, such as flat rates or mileage-based charges, and compare them with other providers in the market. By conducting a thorough cost analysis, you can ensure that you get the best value for your money without compromising quality.
In addition to cost considerations, quality assurance measures should be a priority when selecting an NEMT provider. This includes evaluating their track record of reliability, punctuality, and customer satisfaction. Look for providers with robust safety protocols and employ well-trained drivers who prioritize patient comfort and care.
By carefully assessing both cost-effectiveness and quality assurance measures during the selection process, you can choose a NEMT provider that meets your budgetary needs and ensures safe and reliable transportation for patients in need.
The Future of Non-Emergency Medical Transportation: Innovations and Possibilities for Further Cost Efficiency
The non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) industry is on the brink of a transformative shift, thanks to integrating new technologies. These innovations hold the promise of not only improving patient experience but also driving further cost efficiency in the sector.
One significant development in the NEMT industry is the integration of ride-sharing services. By leveraging platforms like Uber and Lyft, healthcare providers can tap into existing transportation networks, reducing costs and increasing patient accessibility. This integration allows for greater flexibility and convenience, ensuring patients can easily access medical appointments without relying solely on traditional NEMT providers.
Another area where technology is making a significant impact is fleet optimization. Advanced routing algorithms and real-time data analytics enable NEMT providers to optimize their vehicle fleets, reducing idle time and maximizing efficiency. Providers can minimize operational costs while maintaining high service levels by ensuring that vehicles are deployed strategically based on demand patterns.
Predictive analytics also play a crucial role in shaping the future of NEMT. By analyzing historical data and utilizing machine learning algorithms, healthcare organizations can forecast demand patterns accurately. This enables them to allocate resources effectively and proactively address potential bottlenecks or capacity constraints before they occur.
Conclusion: Embracing the Economic Benefits of Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Services
In conclusion, embracing the economic benefits of non-emergency medical transportation services is bright for healthcare providers and patients. Healthcare facilities can reduce costs associated with missed appointments and delayed treatments by utilizing these services. Patients, especially those with limited mobility or lack of access to transportation, can benefit from the convenience and peace of mind that non-emergency medical transportation services offer.
Furthermore, these services contribute to the overall efficiency of the healthcare system by reducing wait times in emergency departments and freeing up resources for critical cases. They also help alleviate the burden on public transportation systems by providing specialized transportation options for individuals with specific medical needs.
By recognizing the value of non-emergency medical transportation services and incorporating them into healthcare strategies, providers can improve patient outcomes while optimizing resource allocation. It is an investment that pays off economically and in terms of patient satisfaction and well-being.

😃 What are some headcanons you have for a character in your fic? (Maybe for The Dead Do Talk, but could be whoever you want to answer for :))
💭 What's something you haven't written about that you'd like to write about?
💬 Do you prefer dialogue or description?
🚦 Why/when did you start writing fanfiction? Why did you start posting?
Sorry if this is a lot lol you can ignore if you like
💛 you 😙
😃 yes yes yes I love talking about The Dead Do Talk
So. Headcanons for the series.. You and Johnny are a well oiled machine together, through weeks of traveling you learned eachothers faults, weaknesses and strengths.
-Johnny worked hard to get you to let him help, to let him carry you often, to give you physical assistance. Truth be told? He loves touching you. Not in a creep way, no, it's not like that, he has so much respect for you. He's just a very physical person, feeling your warmth, feeling just your breath on his shoulder, it's a constant reminder that you're alive. He's not alone. And he'll do anything to keep it that way. He takes any touch you're willing to give him.
-You, fret over Johnny a lot. He's not used to it at all. He's used to being told to get up and keep moving even if he's shot in the gut. But you? You're grabbing his face when he gets the smallest scratch, cursing him softly for not being careful enough. You take care of any wounds he gets, even the smallest of scrapes. You check on healing progress too. Often, when he's sleeping (pretending to-) you check on his temple, tracing the raised skin where the scar is starting to form.
💭 I really. REALLY. Wanna do something with omegaverse, but flip the shit on it's head. Like Simon hiding being an omega, but ends up going to reader, wheelchairbound alpha reader who gets annoyed when she's not taken seriously, for help with his heat.
💬 Dialogue. I love writing witty banter. And conversations that go from arguments, to soft confessions of care.
🚦 Honestly, only started writing fanfic recently. I write mostly original stuff. But I started writing and posting fanfic cause I enjoy character exploration and giving disabled readers representation.
♥️♥️♥️ Thank You ♥️♥️♥️

To each of the 7 koopa kids, what is your most prized possession?
Bully: Prized possession... my crutches, maybe? Odd to say, but... it beats being mostly wheelchairbound.
Kootie Pie: My charm bracelets! King Daddy gave me all of them when I threw enough tantrums. ~ ♡
Big Mouth: So, when I was a kid, I would pretend stones were gold, like gold dabloons and stuff. And I'd keep grabbing them, and bringing different ones home, and I never really grew out of it. Long story short, my pile of rocks that's in my room.
Kooky: Oh, uh... my chemistry set. It allows me to do my experiments since Toadstool won't allow me to have my own lab, unlike King Dad...
Cheatsy: ... Um... a skaaaatebooooard. Verrrrrryyyy... boyish...
Hip: I would say Hop, but I don't own him!

Hip: Oh! Mine is my toy UFO then. We love to
Hop: Play "Outer Space" together!

ill agree we are housebound in the winter
we do not leave the apartment in winter we usually dont do medical in the winter unless we absolutely have to and its unavoidable (side eyes neuro appt in dec...) and that requires a shittonne of logistics to make happen
but i really really hesitate to refer to us as house *bound* the rest of the time bc we...aren't? not really. we do medical appts. we do outdoor [sport] activity every week (mostly). we walk to the close mall to pick up meds. we can at least. kinda leave? we can generally do 3 or so hours out of the apartment instead of 0. like yeah its still logistics and we still need a lot of help but. its *possible*, yanno?
its kind of like how we can generally do 3-4 hours out of bed before needing to return to it so we dont like calling us bedbound unless we literally physically cannot actually leave bed *no matter what*.
but we *will* call ourself wheelchairbound (1 word? 2?) because we cannot exist out of bed anywhere w/o our wheelchair. plus like. we actually are getting straps w the manual (...if assistance is going to cover it bc technically counts "extra" even though supporting documentation from ot : /) and we do actually need straps with our powerchair (it doesnt support installation soooo ot says sol on that : V) so theres the... literally "bound" to wheelchair aspect?
idk. words mean things and it confuses us so we usually just avoid it altogether hahaaa

How fictional futures are contributing to today’s ableism
The character of Jake Sully fits the disability standard wheelchair-bound person stereotype. The film takes place in the future when there's an operation people can undergo to reverse paralysis. However, Jake cannot afford it. Because the premise involves controlling an Avatar with your mind, Jake is rarely seen in his wheelchair. He is ecstatic when he experiences being an Avatar for the first time. He runs as fast as he can away from the researchers who want to do simple tests with him first. "Disability hierarchy also incorporates moral judgments about attitude and behavior with those perceived as hard-working, positive, and inspiring valued over those considered lazy, self-pitying, or faking." (Schalk, 408), Presenting Jake as having the attitude of "once a marine always a marine" and with no sign of mental disabilities makes it easier for the audience to accept him into society. Mental disabilities carry a much greater stigma and encourage more stereotypes. Avatar comforts its audience by keeping the disability barely noticeable.
In real life, I want people to view my disability as a small part of me. But the "plot" of my life still involves it. Jake being in a fully able body through the entire film doesn't serve as a good disability representation. The film focuses more on "quelling anxiety" around disability than representation. Jake is an ideal disabled veteran. "The film is only able to maintain this unsullied perspective by demonstrating Jake's able-mindedness through his persistence, reliability, intelligence, and creativity throughout Jake's mission, thereby banishing anxieties about PTSD and TBIs. Their role as physically disabled soldier-heroes is foundational to the disability hierarchy." (Schalk, 410)
"Able Mindedness" is what ableism is, or at least what it can lead to.Comparing and striving for an "able-body" is a recipe for internalized ableism.
It can lead to being ashamed of mobility aids or thinking disabled is a dirty word. This can result in not connecting with the disabled community because you're fighting against it. Films like Avatar that feature a disability cure miss the point of representation. Having no disabled people in the future reinforces disabilities as a weakness that a more advanced society can eliminate.

#myedschallenge #edsawareness #imhere #disabledisnotabadword #wheelchairbound Ok so for the people who don't know me this is me. I'm wheelchair bound for about 5 years now. I fought for a very long time not to be in a chair. I tried cane's, and Walker's, and such. But I have lost the fight. I have a few gentic disease s one is EDS . I have Classic and Kyperscolisis kind. I have dysautonmia as well as Anklyditios spondylitis. I can only walk about maybe 3 steps before I get dizzy and fall down. I can't stand for more than about 1 minute. I crawl alot to get in my house and out of my house. I am here, I am disabled I am not ashamed. But my diseases do not really get the medical attention that we need to get help. There is no cure, we get tired alot, we live in unimaginable pain. Our joints "Pop" out. We are falling apart. But we are strong. We are here. We are #Zebras#wearespoonies. A MOTORIZED AIRPLANE WHEELCHAIR THAT SETS INTO THE FIRST ROW SEATING
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Securing a Discovery Of The Season Award in addition to a Platinum Champion Award in the European Product Design Awards in 2019, The Row-1 airplane wheelchair surely has happened on the brilliant solution for any problem that no designer recognized before. The Row-1, to put it simply, is definitely an inclusive-design motorized wheel chair that lets disabled and seniors patrons in an airport terminal go right out the check-in desk to within the air travel, and de-board the flight in their destination. The motorized wheel chair works just how you’d expect it to, allowing those with disability to pay for large distances inside an airport terminal (with the aid of air travel staff), but where it truly shines is incorporated in the way it rolls directly into the aircraft and safeguards itself towards the plane seat. “1 million travelers with disabilities required 23 million journeys in the last 2 yrs, spending $9 billion on their own flights”, states Ciara, a design finish the College of Limerick, Ireland. The Row-1 is aimed at bettering their experience through the elimination of the necessity and also the connected discomfort of altering seats whenever a disabled person boards or deboards an airplane. The Row-1 airplane wheelchair is actually a motorized wheel chair that has a nesting design and inward-folding rear wheels which help it integrate itself easily right into a seat the very first row, giving the patron extra leg-room and keep them nearer to the bathroom too. By doing this, the passenger never must change seats through all of their journey, except for passing with the security check. The motorized wheel chair is even outfitted using its own seatbelt that proves helpful inside the airport terminal on a trip on ramps and air-bridges, in addition to within the plane. Exactly the same motorized wheel chair ranges from the airport terminal of departure towards the plane, and lastly escorts the passenger out in the airport terminal of arrival. The motorized wheel chair even includes its very own joystick-panel for manual operation, in addition to space underneath the seat for storing handbags. airport wheelchair assistance tip airport wheelchair assistance jobs airport wheelchair service how to request wheelchair at airport in india newark airport wheelchair assistance wheelchair assistance for parents how does wheelchair assistance work how do i get a wheelchair assistance at the airport Read the full article
