this quote about cordyceps from this article in a scientific magazine is basically how i've always imagined possession to work in horror stories. the demon/entity/whatever doesn't alter your perception, displace you, or control your mind, they just take over all your bodily processes, bypassing your brain entirely. they force your mouth and vocal cords to form the words they want you to say, force your limbs to move in the direction they want you to go, and force your lungs to keep expanding and contracting and your heart to keep beating, even through excruciating pain and horrific injury, so you can't even self-sabotage and your friends and loved ones are discouraged from trying to stop you for fear of what harm they might cause you to do to yourself to escape. you're a passenger in the driver's seat of your own car, and the hands on the wheel, though outwardly apparently the same pair you've always had, are no longer your own.

henry telling joel the story of how he informed fedra about the leader of the resistance so he could get the medicine he needed to save sam, and seeing joel's entire face and demeanour change as he starts to understand who henry is and how similar they both are. joel initially not trusting henry because he's a rat, but once the full context is given to him, he tells henry it's not fair on him for so many people to want him dead for what he did. joel not questioning why henry would betray so many people for his brother, because he knows he would do exactly the same thing in his place. henry DIRECTLY making joel ask himself the question "what is more important: the world, or the one person you love? your honour, or your family? when it comes down to it, how many people will you hurt to make sure she's safe?", and you can just see that joel immediately knows the answer.

If you are in your 20s or early 30s and are still trying to figure out your life and feel like you can't be an adult/function within society, can I please recommend Nagata Kabi's memoirs????? She's a manga artist who nearly exclusively writes/draws about her own life, and her struggles with utterly crippling anxiety and depression, and her fight to become an adult that she can love!
I have been BINGEING them these past few days, and I feel like I have learned so much about myself!!!! The author is so vulnerable and honest about herself (even about nsfw things), and while there is a focus on her hardships, the things that she's learned I feel like can be quite useful to people who are still trying to figure things out!
There are some serious CWs for eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, and alcoholism (and also sexual assault if you read her 5th memoir, but the author is kind enough to tell you what page to skip to if you don't want to read it).
I've been dealing with the fact that I've just turned 26 and I still live with my parents, have a part time job, and quite frankly have no romantic prospects-- but in spite of how hard some of the topics she writes about are, I cannot begin to tell you how hopeful these books have made me feel.
So... I just wanted to share in case someone out there might need something like this right now!
Image below is the cover of the first book-- be warned, the paperback and ebook versions of this same book's cover are more on the nsfw side, so be careful looking it up at work lol. Also while she is a lesbian, I feel like these things can apply to folks of any gender or sexuality!

Actually flabbergasted at the HLVRAI fandom right now. Everyone keeps talking about "the buildup with no payoff" bro what buildup.
I am not someone who follows creators closely, I just sorta sit back and if something new comes out I look at it- all we got about BBVRAI before it came out was a silent clip showing the reactor. (And apparently a twitter joke which I personally have not seen so I really can't talk about that.) There was no buildup about it being HL2VRAI. From what I can tell, and from what I know from my friend who watches RTVS, the only "buildup" for HL2VRAI came directly from the fans. Did y'all see something I didnt or what?
In any case. HLVRAI fandom, get your act together. Stop harassing the creators. It's okay to be upset and it's okay to have opinions, but it's not okay to be hateful because of it.
And if you aren't enjoying something, you should just leave, respectfully. Step away. I speak from experience when I say it works wonders.
