So there's this Thing about Aragorn that lives rent-free in my brain.
Aragorn's an old dude, right? He's one of the Dunedain, and they are descendents of Numenor and they live shockingly long lives for Men. Most other men live normal ass lifespans and/or are Gondorian and have a slightly longer lifespan because they're great-great-great-grandparent was Numenorian. Aragorn also left Elrond's care at age 20 after learning his real name and essentially went out into the world to simultaneously learn more about the Kingdoms of Men, help out the Free Peoples because he felt obligated as a descendant of a long line of Goodly Numenorian Kings, and maybe find himself. I mean, he literally lived the first twenty years of his life being called Hope in Elvish.
So he runs around Arda and decides to pretend his name is Thorongil, meaning Eagle of the Star. Which, okay Aragorn, we know you were raised by elves, but it's really evident now. Friggin' Varda-obsessed elves. And Aragorn's helping out these various rulers, fighting in campaigns and acting as an advisor. And then he keeps running around just exploring.
He goes to the East.
This is the part that really interests me, because Aragorn makes very few references to it in the books. The most obvious line about it is when he's participating at the Council of Elrond to decide the fate of the One Ring, and he's defending himself against the doubts of Boromir.
"For my part I forgive your doubt...Little do I resemble the figures of Elendil and Isildur as they stand carven in their majesty in the halls of Denethor. I am but the heir of Isildur, not Isildur himself. I have had a hard life and a long; and the leagues that lie between here and Gondor are a small part in the count of my journeys. I have crossed many mountains and many rivers, and trodden many plains, even into the far countries of Rhûn and Harad where the stars are strange."
And that's like maybe one of two really brief references to his travels East. Any other info about it you have to hunt down through the various appendixes or the other supplementary material published. And like, he traveled out there for about a solid year. Out into the deserts and dry plains.
What the hell did he do out there? Did he learn the languages? Did he make friends? Did he see the temples of sacrifice to Sauron, or meet either of the two Blue Wizards?
This is the kind of shit that keeps me up at night. Like, GDI if people want to make LOTR shows, they should have made an adventure show starring a young Aragorn/Thorongil fresh from his service to Gondor and defeating a big invading fleet of Umbar raiders, striking out into the desert in search of knowledge and probably some wanderlust-driven exploration. I want culture clashes and language barriers and maybe religious disagreements. I want this beanpole ranger surrounded by mid-height Harad men, probably attempting to ask for directions in limited Haradian/whatever language they speak but instead accidentally ends up asking for some cultural thing and Aragorn is thus forced to blunder his way through it.
Give me Adventure Aragorn, dammit.

oh. so, some twitter stans are migrating here, i see? welcome, i guess. just a tiny little request: for the love of god do NOT bring all those unholy stan mindset and practices you’ve learned from that sewer app to this site. those “jobless”, “big age” insults you say because you don’t like someone? yeah, those aren’t gonna fly here. the constant talk about your fav’s career milestones and awards and who’s better than who? we don’t care. the stan wars and the drama every other business week over absolutely nothing? eyeroll. eyeroll. eyeroll. making one liner comebacks that every other stan use just to troll? worms for brains.
you see, we like art and beauty and dumb jokes here. we love the weird, the sappy, the horny, the political. we respect the exchange of ideas and culture and perspectives. we gossip and speculate and sometimes make elaborate (unserious) theories about every little thing. we also like seeing random thoughts and tidbits of your life that you’re willing to share.
we admit to being hypocrites and we try to be self-aware as much as we can. but basically, what we do here is the ultimate escapism. ✨IT’S ALL VIBES✨ and if you ever find yourself sweating and dry heaving over the way we like to have fun, then idk maybe there’s no other choice for you but to go back and pay elon his $8 or something.

We shit on France a lot for a country that does most of our favorite stuff, such as:
Antagonizing England.
Antagonizing and disrupting global religious norms (Western Schism, anyone?).
Beheading the greedy, overwealthy bourgeousie and demanding various workers'/civil rights on a regular basis.
Holding their governing body accountable, with very real consequences if citizens' demands go ignored.
Normalizing snack culture (bread and spreadable cheese with juice, amirite, fellow neurodivergents?)
Having the BEST possible villain accent for campy children's cartoons (step aside, Cockney Brits)
Providing endless meme content.
Like I'm not a France Stan by any means. Please don't get me wrong. The one French exchange student in my university's English Literature MA program did his thesis on Homestuck, for fuck’s sake.
But damn... They have the vibes.

Jeff Satur-Lucid MV costar Nene Pornappan Pornpenpipat
So I know we've all been rewatching Lucid's MV, because it's so wonderful and beautiful, but of course I was curious about Jeff's costar, because I always am. So I looked her up, and turns out if you're a BL watcher, you may have recognized her. (I did not, though I have watched both seasons of this show, but I did think she was really beautiful.)
Tumblr media
She's in 2gether the series, which is awesome. I did a very brief look into her, and the woman has a pretty wild career history and is also wonderfully talented. I didn't want anyone who watched Jeff's video to think that she's just a pretty face (though clearly she's very beautiful) so I did a smidgen of a deep dive.
I'll start with the basics...she is a Thai-Chinese (born in Bangkok, though both parents have Chinese ancestry) actress, and singer. Her Thai name is Pornnappan Pornpenpipat, and her Chinese name is Zheng Naixin. She uses the nickname Nene across pretty much all of her career endeavors. She's 25, and her birthdate is 25 June 1997. You can find her Instagram (nenevader) here.
Tumblr media
Her professional career starts out in 2013, where she competed in True Academy Fantasia 10 (AF10) as the youngest contestant, being 16 at the time. Two years later she would debut with Thai idol group MilkShake managed by GMM Grammy. (You can see her in the center below.)
Tumblr media
They released 2 singles, one in 2015 as their debut, and a second in 2016. While not officially disbanded as far as I can find, they have not released new music since 2016.
From 2016 to 2022 she would act in various roles in various countries, including Vietnam and China, and eventually play the role of Air in 2gether the series, which is also produced by GMM (specifically GMMTV).
Tumblr media
In April of 2020 Nene participated in the Tencent Video's Chinese girl group reality competition show, Produce Camp 2020, eventually debuting as a member of BonBon303 in August of that year.
Tumblr media
From 2020 to 2022 BonBon303 would release 3 EPs eventually disbanding in July of 2022. During those two years Nene would also continue appearing in various Chinese shows, including reality and variety shows.
Tumblr media
She debuted as a solo artist with the single Promise on July 12, 2022, under Sony Music China.
Tumblr media
You can watch the official MV here. (It's a good song, very much a kind of chill pop-y summer bop, appropriate to it's release date.)
In the midst of all of this she also works sporadically modelling (unsurprising, as she is very beautiful) and was also a brand ambassador and promoter for Leader and Lancome respectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More impressively she also worked as a cultural Ambassador in 2022 as the China-Thailand Cultural Ambassador (I'm assuming one of many) and as the 2022 Thailand Customs Festival China-Thailand Cultural Exchange Ambassador. We have been seeing especially over recent years an increase in cross-country- and cross-cultural cooperation amongst many East Asian and South East Asian countries (Remember Jeff was also part of the KonnecThai Music and Arts event in late April of this year).
She also has her first solo fanmeet in Bangkok coming up at the end of this month for her birthday, which is awesome and I hope she has a really fun time.
Tumblr media
Now this is a lot of basic information, but doesn't give us much in the way of personality other than to clearly display that this women is multi-talented and determined. I can't personally attest to her personality, but based around her choices for her solo song/MV, and her Instagram posts, she seems to be very cool, she doesn't shy away from posting casual, candid, or unmade-up photos on IG, which always adds point in my book for authenticity.
Tumblr media
I'm not saying you need to follow her or stan her, or anything else, but I know how much Jeff values his own career (especially now that it's 100% under his control) and I don't think he would have chosen Nene, if he didn't think she was a pretty cool person. Here's some pics/clips she and Jeff posted of the BTS of the Lucid MV where they are clearly having a lot of fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you wanna look for some more info, you can start on her Kprofile page here, or also check her Wikipedia page here.

heya, this is the anon that salted about edelgard fans who get defensive of their fave to the point of romanticizing imperialism, and kind of replying to the other anon.
you missed the point of what i said.
i never said anything about dimitri and somehow you attacked with the assumption my fav is dimitri (my fav is claude btw). red herring, but go off i guess.
imagine playing crimson flower (or even scarlet haze in 3 hopes) and finding things that could fit in the history of your country. the wars that we never asked all because some powerful country out there decided they were blessing us with their superior culture. imagine hearing edelgard's constant insistence for the greater good, and things will be better. when i live in a country that is still hearing from the still bleeding wounds of colonialism and imperialism.
playing edelgard's routes genuinely upset me, but i had two other routes i could play that would let me enjoy the game. so i did. and i also know people like crimson flower and like edelgard and that's fine. we all have different tastes.
what i don't agree is when people aren't mindful to what they say for the sake of defending their blorbos. imagine, for one second, what it looks like if you talk to a fan who is maybe not british or whatever nationality that doesn't have a history of being colonized (and mayhaps have a history of being the colonizer), and you tell them that edelgard did nothing wrong. you equate her tragic and complex personality to being absolved from all wrongdoings. you dig in that hill, and you will die on it like bernadetta on the flaming platform.
and so you got two fans hurt. one thinks you're a white supremacist, the other assumes you hate edelgard. and so nobody talks. only debates. nothing is shared. only fought.
at this point any fan of the house leader is overly defensive. if someone doesn't like claude, you're racist. if someone doesn't like dimitri, you must be an edelstan. if someone doesn't like edelgard, you just like dimitri to dick you with the areadbhar between his legs.
i don't like yuri because he's too much of a twink for me, but i'm sure there's some morality reason for it in the fandom space. i must be a *throws dart on board* aelfric stan and ship him with *throws another dart* count rowe while also supporting *last dart* aristocracy and rhea's dragon tits.
i wish people stopped being defensive and enjoy their barbie dolls. all their barbie dolls. let people share their barbies without having some goddamn debate happening. exchange clothes. cut the hair. do make believe with funny voices.
i wish dimitri artists weren't harrassed because they like drawing dimitri. i wish dimitri fans wouldn't plot their own harrassment war on edelgard fans because of this ""travesty"" or whatever the fuck. yeah, philosophy and social issues are going to be discussed. it's a game with war and politics. just be mindful and not defensive. talk about things but for god's sake please make sure not to trigger or squick a fan while gushing because you're too focused on showing your barbie is the prettiest.
i wish i could share racist and dark fucked up colonialism headcanons on the world of fe3h because it's a comfort for *me*, a southeast asian who grew up with the colonial mentality of western countries being better and we should thank them for conquering us.
but i can't share these headcanons (besides a few irl friends) because people would think it's an attack on edelgard because how dare i unromanticize crimson flower. or that i hate claude for projecting that and i'm racist. or use it as a "gotcha!" moment to dunk on dimitri because "hey he supports monarchy and the church, and they're components of colonialism! why don't you talk about that? hmph you just like his looks"
so it's exhausting. and i'm okay with playing with my barbie dolls alone or with a group of two. but i wish i didn't have to

hi, this is 90sfatal. personally idc what any of you have to say about me but do you not realize that you’re upset over a minor who has clearly not been educated on the evan/emma situation.. instead of attacking him maybe it would be helpful to provide the evidence that evan is a victim to abuse & not the abuser. & i understand being upset i didn’t defend evan the way you all wanted but i have devoted years of my life to supporting evan & his work even when the world seemingly hated him. i have defended that man countless times & will continue to do so when it comes down to it. excuse me for bantering with a mutual & then messaging him privately to educate him. y’all wouldn’t know about that tho bc you’re not in my dms
letsxriot asked: if you guys don’t like twitter so much then why do you watch our every move.. saying twitter is insane is valid bc we are but at least we have the balls to speak what’s on our minds freely without hiding. you’re the ones going out of your way to send our tweets to a gossip blog anonymously. that’s so strange to me. just don’t look at what we have to say if it bothers you so much. all i do is talk about my fav on there & interact with my friends.
-
i understand that perhaps this person is your friend and you are familiar with him on a deeper level, and that because of this you would feel differently about their statement/how it should be received. with that said, being 17 is not in any way a shield nor an excuse to say outright false, defamatory, and outlandishly offensive things about someone you dislike due to stan war/stan culture.
this goes for you, him, me, and everyone else: what we post on the internet, between friends or not, is public forum and subject to strangers opinions and critique. i know for a fact i have said things on here that ruffled peoples' feathers; i have had entire accounts on here and twitter created for the sole purpose to flame me, dox me, cancel me etc... you're right that we are not in your dms and we don't know if you had a meaningful conversation about why what he said was unacceptable and harmful. i'm glad you did and i certainly hope that he took what you said to heart and will stop confidently spouting lies.
if you have indeed been a fan for years and witnessed the hate that evan received and defended him, then i feel that you'll be able to understand why it's reasonable that some folks would be bothered. he didn't say ''evan peters is an ugly hoe'', he literally accused him of abuse, racism and nazism. it is normal that people would have a reaction to that.
also, i mean, to be fair.. i, and i presume others, are speaking to twitter/fandom twitter as a whole, not directly to your account to disparage you personally. the fandom on twitter currently, is dominated by people who never made a single tweet about him before 2022, many of you guys are teens or just outside of that, and tumblr skews older so it's not unusual that there is a disconnect. that's why i'm here, on tumblr, and not on twitter yelling at anyone to get off my lawn. this entire exchange is a microcosm of that app and why i tend to not engage; it is generally a negative vibe for me, but that doesn't mean you or anyone else should not enjoy it with your friends.
no one is forcing your hand to read a gossip blog nor keep tabs on what my readers send me on here. you used to follow me on here/twitter, stopped, and now are following me on here again because you saw someone send in an ask about twitter happenings a few days back, and wanted to send me a message about it. so in all fairness, you clearly do care what others think and it feels like you and your critics are both utilizing this blog as a vessel to engage in some sort of back and forth about disagreements. to be clear, i've deleted tons of stuff from my inbox about twitter beef. respectfully, i'd prefer that drama stays on the appropriate app and not involve me. criticizing a post, tweet, video, etc. is fair game but this should not be personal. this is the internet and you're certainly entitled to your own feelings and opinions - so are the people who read this blog, who are no more "anonymous" than you or i. like i said before, i fully believe that muting/blocking and not engaging with people who bother you is the best course of action. this fandom is never going to all hold hands and sing kumbaya but it doesn't have to be a negative and hateful experience.
i'm gonna go have my edibles and a bubble bath.

Martell’s stans pretending that they’re representatives of Global South in ASOIAF where instead they’re a region who’s constantly in clash with their neighbours cause they can’t stop looting and raiding the Stormlands and the Reach.
*EDITED* (11/5/23)
I haven't come across a Martell stan yet, in all my 7-month life here on Tumblr. But I already wrote a post on why the Martells aren't exactly PoCs (because race, as Americans and modern peoples know the thing, doesn't exist in this fictional universe) so much as "Others" are seen as ethnically different but not enough for there to be concern over "miscegenation" or "dirtying the blood" or losing actual social privileges the Martells still had like other "white", nonDornish nobles.
Ethnicity doesn't equal race, and "people of color" denotes "non-white" people, and "white"/"PoC" are racial terms.
Nationality also does not equal race, nor does it equal ethnicity.
"Race"--as in just the practical applications of their real modern realities and economic and social structures as a result--is not accurate or a paltry thing the further you go back in time. There were definitely racializations, racial & ethnic biases, and ethnic & racial tensions/violence, but religion and/or language more often defined a person's belonging and identity within a different hegemony until maybe the late 14th to 15th centuries.
The Rhoynish would definitely be considered PoC in our modern American & British racial categorization; in the world itself, yes they were a "foreign" and literally foreign people and a different ethnicity from First Men and Andal.
However, ONE -- Dorne is not progressive in terms of class, not at all, and TWO -- these two are both Essosi in origin while several of their original cultural aspects [the Faith, the symbols, chivalry, court culture, oaths, the kin slaying taboo, the importance placed on swords, guest rights, etc.] still exist in the main events of ASoIaF right now. These didn't change or get lost upon their arrival to the Westerosi continent.
Dorne, by virtue of the fact that their succession customs are equal gender, will inevitably be Othered and thus they have that sense of "not white-ness" but this doesn't really pin them down as "PoC" bc the emphasis of why the Dornish are Othered is much more about there being less misogyny than religion, region, etc. and the Martells still independently/non-coercively share Andal cultural aspects then they do Rhoynish. Because, how can the whites (nonDornishmen) racialize a region based on skin color or principles of "purity" seen through the outside (as this has been used to create current racial categories) with people with different skin colors?
The First Men are not Andals, the Andals and FM fought several times in past history, come from different regions of Essos, have different religions and both typically have paler skin. Both have misogynist practices and are more stringent about male primogeniture and able-bodiedness mattering to leadership.
The "salty" Martells and other Dornish--even those who are "sandy" or "stony" as Daeron I categorized them--are more analogues of both Welsh vs. the Anglo-Saxons or Normans (all "racially white" ) because of their constant wars with Reach people and Stormlanders. AND Spaniards (European people, so racially white) because Spain has a history of Moor, Hebrew/Jew, and pre-Moor Spaniards having intermarriages and other types of exchange or interaction LONG before King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella expelled the Jewish and Muslim peoples. Even then, she and her King husband were not at first the rulers of all of "Spain", but of the kingdoms of Aragon and Castile freshly uniting these to develop and become what we know as "Spain". Like how England used to be Kent, East Anglia, Essex, Mercia, Northumbria, Sussex, Wessex, the Welsh peoples (a Celtic people) before the Normans arrived (Northmen/Scandinavian/Swedish/Danish/Viking originated) and conquered the English islands.
Once again, do we consider Spain a "white" country, or not?

I'm re-watching older cutscenes to kind of reacquaint myself with Aymeric and Lucia's introductory appearances and Alphinaud's insistence that Ishgard rejoin the Alliance was pretty grating to sit through.
I get that Thordan VII's introduction was flanked by Ascians, so by that point the player is already like 'ooh, oh noes', but hearing that Ishgard is viewed as an opportunistic ally of convenience is so... meh.
Aymeric reiterates that Ishgardian politics don't presume to intrude upon other nations' conflicts, they're clearly busy with their own issues (the ongoing Dragonsong War *coughs*), the Ixal business is left to Gridania since they fall within Gridanian borders and we all know how Gridania is about outsiders to begin with- It just feels like you're supposed to be extremely suspect of them from the beginning. I have also seen fandom state they initially thought Aymeric or Haurchefant would betray the WoL/Scions before they started stanning either or both characters.
Maybe this is also supposed to showcase Alphinaud's arrogance in believing his Crystal Braves can solve every city-state's ills, but the 'join us=good for everyone' writing just gets very tiresome (including the later summit with Varis representing Garlemald) time after time.
I'm not denying Ishgard has some obvious issues, we've seen as much through the main scenario quests involving House Haillinarte, but taking such a critical stance of Ishgard from the get go is so mindnumbing to sit through and the idea that you can blanket-criticize another nation for being *gasp* insular is so obnoxious in general.
Part of it, I understand, is simply the nature of the game and some limitations of storytelling due to the medium? But at large, I'm just sick of those faux-altruistic values being lauded in general storytelling. I've seen and heard it so many times in real life too: US-centric 'global' politics and American civil rights movements, it makes me really tired and annoyed. Like "oh, do this for the good of everyone or you're not helping" or "if you're not with us, then you're a bad person" and ignoring all of the details and nuances involved with culture, history, and resources.
Well, at least I can see why Aymeric is certainly frustrated with the talk I guess, but I feel like his composure is not at all viewed as a positive trait and more 'playing his cards close to the table' or the like.
I don't know, I always thought Aymeric and Lucia were interesting characters and even when I was younger and playing through the ARR patches, I didn't default think they were bad people for outright stating what they had the manpower to do and not do- as well as being transparent about the exchange so they could have an eye on Midgardsormr.
I know it's 'dated' now, but arguably the later expansions still adhere to that kind of 'kumbahyah- everybody hold hands and play nice with each other' kind of simple-minded narrative.
Maybe it's because I initially started playing Warcraft, not to say Warcraft's writing is 'perfect and never flawed' *gestures at Sylvanas and Tyrande, to mention a few characters who were did real dirty by various writers*, but I just don't recall being as exhausted and exasperated about things as I become with FFXIV- unless the fandom's involved, but that's an entirely separate rant.
IT'S BORING, DO SOMETHING ELSE, PLEASE-

From TV Guide (26/10/1999):
<<<<A funny thing happened on South Park's way to the pop-culture scrap heap.
Two years after the gleefully sophomoric show about bratty, foulmouthed
Colorado third graders debuted on Comedy Central to record-setting ratings,
and a year after the season frequent reruns and a slumping viewer ship, there
seems to be new life for Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny and the whole proudly
obnoxious little crew.
It started perhaps, with last summer’s "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut,"
a feature film version of the show that turned out to be smarter slyer and
funnier than it’s critics had expected, earning to date more than $71 million
worldwide. It may have been minute-for-minute the most obscenity-ridden movie
ever made, but it was also sharply satiric, and a pretty good musical to boot.
The movie provided a measure of vindication for the two overworked Colorado
malcontents who write, produce and voice South Park - which has 17 new
episodes coming up, starting this week. In the past two years, Trey Parker,
who turned 30 this month, and Matt Stone, 28, have helped put Comedy Central
on the map, offended parents and moral watchdogs, alienated a long list of
Hollywood luminaries and watched their stock rise and fall. The two talked
about their strange career in the spacious office they share in South Park’s
West Los Angeles headquarters, a wharehouselike building whose two prime
parking spots out front are labeled Mao Tsetung and Patrick Duffy. (The late
Chinese Communist leader apparently now drives a silver Lexus SC400, while
the former Dallas star gets around in a dented blue Geo Metro.) Pinned to the
door of their office is a scene-by-scene rundown of an upcoming episode, one
that features actress Sally Struthers (no doubt without her cooperation or
permission), the character Starvin’ Marvin, and lots of space travel.
Outspoken, casual and blatant in their disregard for the usual showbiz
niceties, Parker and Stone are also as profane as you’d expect for the guys who put the words in Cartman’s mouth. This is a PG version; the unedited
transcript would merit at least a hard R.
TV GUIDE: Since you started working on South Park Two years ago you’ve made a
couple of albums, finished the movie "Orgazmo," starred in BASEketball" and
made the "South Park" feature film. But now you’re back working on the TV show
full time.
Trey Parker: Well, we promised ourselves that we were going to come back and
just do the show for a year. Because in July, I started getting grey hairs.
And I know it’s from the movie.
Matt Stone: The "Chef Aid" album [a faux benefit album spoofing the Live Aid
concert] was a lot of work, but the movie was the king monster of them all.
Trey Parker: We felt like, this better be good, or we’re in trouble.
TV GUIDE: Why so much pressure?
Matt Stone: We just felt that people were thinking. South Park isn’t new
anymore, the honeymoon is over, it’s passé. All the summer movie previews
were saying stuff like Austin Powers: It’s shagadelic!, Starwars: Here comes the force, South Park: It may be passé. So we knew the movie had to be good.
But also we felt that the movie was a swan song. We just felt like, we’re gonna
go out in a big blaze of flame. And somehow that backfired, and it was a
critical success and an economic success.
Trey Parker: And people treat us differently now. After BASEketball and
Orgazmo they were starting to go "Oh, those guys are over" But now things are
different. I got a letter from Stephen Sondheim saying that he thought South
Park was the best musical of the last five years.
Matt Stone: So all of a sudden we got a little bit of credibility back. Be we
exchanged it for years off our life.
TV Guide: You went whole hog with the movie. You offended the ratings board,
really annoyed the MPAA president Jack Valenti, fought with Paramount
Trey Parker: Oh, yeah. What I’m most proud of us for, we always said "If we’re
gonna get kicked out of this down, we’re gonna get kicked out flipping everyone
off" And what’s cool is that we haven’t gotten kicked out yet.
TV Guide: Not that some executives probably haven’t tried.
Trey Parker: It’s funny, because everyone was saying "You guys are ticking
off Paramount. You really better be careful. Don’t you worry about your
careers?" And we were like "No". All that matters is that the movie does well.
If the movie does well, we’re fine. If it doesn’t, we’re out. And if we’re
out, we wanna go out with our heads up high.
TV Guide: Do you think the quality of the show suffered when you were off
doing movies?
Trey Parker: No, quite the contrary. I know how we work. I won’t be creative
unless I’ve got a deadline. So it’s not like, wow, if I don’t do this, I could
write a book. It would never happen. I’d sit there and play video games. I can
be the biggest loser in the world, unless I have a very solid deadline: You’ve
got to hand this in or your going to get sued for $6 million. Then I can be creative.
Matt Stone: If we didn’t do the movie we could have done more shows. But I
don’t think they would have been and better. It’s stupid the way we work.
Trey Parker: We suck. We have no work ethic. No self-discipline. We’re just
total losers at heart, that’s the problem.
TV Guide: So why not delegate some of the responsibility
Trey Parker: The easiest thing to do would be to get a writing staff. Hire five
people and have them do it. Matt and I could be executive producers and do the
voices and watch the shows and make notes.
Matt Stone: And we’d get paid the same.
Trey Parker: We’d get paid the same and we’d add years to our lives. But once
the show took off we promised we’d never do that. We’ve done really bizarre
stuff this year in these new shows because as we said from the beginning we
would rather have the show completely inaccessible than just sort of peter out.
We did a show about Jew Scouts, and it was insane. It made no sense. But we loved it.
TV Guide: So even after offending much of Hollywood, you have no plans to
calm down?
Trey Parker: We’re gonna get older just like anyone else, and our values are
probably going to change, but when that happens, I want us to not be doing
this anymore. I just hate watching people in music or whatever, going through
that phase, becoming tame, sitting there on a stool playing "Tears in Heaven".
I feel like, just shut up. You did your thing now go away.>>

I agree with everything you said and that’s how I’m reconciling it too. This case had made me so disappointed in many people, in real life and people/celebs whose work I like.
You’re correct Luke N isn’t being called out as much - very unsurprising. He followed JD in the past few weeks as the trial was ongoing. With Charithra, she followed JD yesterday evening. I saw him under her most recent follows myself. Of course, some Kanthony stan DM her on Insta calling her out and then posted part of Charithra’s (admittedly kinda yikes) response on Twitter. And now she’s holding the rest of the exchange hostage for a “gotcha” moment it seems? … It very much seems stans are less sincerely upset about the JD support than they are eager to finally have “ammunition” against Charithra.
Yeah, of course they are. Let's be real, a lot of people don't give a fuck about Depp or Amber on both sides. They're symbolic. They're part of a stan war. It's fucking sad, because Amber was horribly abused by this man and he's exploiting the system in a way that will affect male and female DV survivors, and in particular survivors who want to speak out. It's not a stan issue. When official GOP accounts are posting Captain Jack gifs? We are FUCKED.
I don't think any of this should be used as ammo. This is also alienating DV survivors who've supported Amber on a very like... Idk what the world would be. Meta? Pop-cultural? Level. You can't even watch a Florence Pugh movie without being reminded of how she liked that post, and wondering if she thinks DV survivors are just full of shit. I imagine it's more likely that Florence is a dumbass and doesn't take her platform seriously, but still. And of course, many celebrities have made themselves unwatchable for people before, but I think the volume of people involved in such a short amount of time is what makes this case interesting (and sad). It's also very VISIBLE. There are plenty of celebs who've worked with Polanski or defended him, but you may not have known that unless you were browsing their wikipedia pages randomly.
And look. Elliot Page worked with Woody Allen, and he shouldn't have, and it's not my place to accept his apology regarding that. But it did seem like a thoughtful apology; and it'll be interesting to see if any of these people issue those types of apologies in the future. However, it really would be on Amber to accept those apologies, wouldn't it?

after much ethnographic immersion, i have determined that as of 2022, there's actually a roughly equal number of erik stans & charles stans in the current cherik fandom. they just happen to exist in entirely separate spheres & seem to be unaware that the other group exists. if you are suffering from fandom fatigue as a result of feeling that everyone else woobifies your unfavorite, i recommend some kind of cultural exchange that would expose you to a different circle of cherik shippers, because the one thing we can all agree on is that anons whining that everyone else in fandom is so stupid & wrong & annoying is possibly the most annoying thing of all.

My #1 post of 2022
but ALSO ON THE OTHER HAND the failure of telepathy. erik who is like "ah so he knows i am a monster" and just goes on like that glumly but also doesn't bother telling charles anything about himself because he already knows, surely he already knows. erik who makes charles his arbitrator of what is good and moral and thinks A Good Person Would Be Against Me Killing Shaw even knowing that he killed my mom, experimented on me, that his death is the only thing that has allowed me to keep putting one foot in front of the other instead of just lying down and dying, this man who knows everything about me and therefore gives me exactly what i am worth and it is the tenderness of friendship but no more, it is sitting three feet away from me in his study. and meanwhile charles is like :) can't wait to get to know him as a real person more than just what my telepathy can tell me because charles knows better than anyone that it doesn't matter what you think and that who you are is defined by what you choose to do (which is why he should convert and not just to give edie the satisfaction of marrying her child off to a nice jewish boy)

Hello BPP! I hope you’re doing great :) I used to follow your old blog and was sad when you deactivated so when I found out that you were back, I was so happy!
Anyway, I wanted to ask you if you have any opinions on the common discourse of white people trying to become k-pop idols. I’m not much of a k-pop stan but I am of asian descent so seeing fellow asians rising through the world stage as k-pop idols makes me happy for the representation.
A lot of stans say that white people are encroaching into asian spaces - k-pop is still just one of the few ways asians CAN take vs trying to get there through the USA or UK or any of the western countries - and taking away chances from asians because white people traditionally have it easier if they want to establish a music career compared to POCs. They have fewer barriers of entry so them trying their luck in SK is seen as greedy.
In a way, I can see their point but I also don’t want to gatekeep, you know? I guess I want to be more inclusive and that way of thinking is kind of racist or at least discriminatory? I’m aware that a homogeneous country like SK and Japan can be racist too and can make foreigners very othered so the chances of them blowing up the same way as native koreans is slim… I don’t know, I haven’t reached my own conclusions yet so I was hoping to hear your perspective.
Thank you!
**
(Thanks for the kind words anon 💜)
Oh goodness,
Anon, this topic is one of the discourse topics that can get me heated. Even my casual manner of speaking is typically a bit caustic so I'm going to try to keep it together in this post. And the best way to do that is to try to make this short.
"In a way, I can see their point but I also don’t want to gatekeep, you know?"
I (EYE) want to gatekeep. I want to gatekeep everything. Needless to say, I think most white people are perfectly capable of respecting whatever culture they take interest in, and many will be phenomenal idols. I might come to love a few. But if I was convinced that K-pop and Korean artists will also be elevated, respected, and accepted as true equals to their white counterparts in America and the West, I'd be all for this. But it would be stupid to expect equitable treatment even though Asian representation is so needed. Real and equitable Asian representation is terribly needed, and just when it's starting to really happen partly thanks to BTS, non-Asian artists want in. White/American artists are already played everywhere in South Korea. Random people on the street know what Billie Eilish did on TikTok last week. But if you ask Jennifer from Kansas if she knows who Yuqi from (G)I-dle is, I hope she'd say yes, but it's more likely she says no. If White entrants into the genre increase rapidly, Korean artists will benefit as well, but the benefits won't be split equitably imo.
An influx of white entrants would also facilitate some exchange of culture as well, which is a great thing, but...
There's so many ways I can go about saying this, but the bottomline is, roots are important. K-pop is distinctly Korean and should mostly remain that way. By this I don't mean all the members have to be Korean, I mean the group has to remain Korean. We have Korean groups with members of all nationalities and races, but the group's identity remains Korean - the language and culture is infused somewhere in the group. I'm not talking about J-pop or C-pop or whatever, I'm talking about K-pop. And let's be real, it's easier to have this arrangement with POCs than not, because we can’t ignore a history of imperialist/colonizing impulses in white cultures, and the impacts those attitudes have had on other cultures. It's not just possible but likely that whatever is Korean about K-pop will be appropriated and whitewashed, and I struggle to see how respect will be given to the history and culture behind the genre.
But,
Ironically, and maybe because of my background, this is exactly how I feel about k-pop, but with regards to Black culture. This time the k-pop industry is the offending party, because k-pop also borrows heavily from Black culture and even in the big year of 2022, refuses to sufficiently credit and elevate the Black artists they too often, blatantly rip off. And this one thing I will always give props to BTS for.. Because these guys do their homework. They put in the work and pay up. It's respect and cash, from Bangtan to every single Black artist they've referenced (because let's be real, money talks and you should put your money where your mouth is). We need to talk more about the sort (and lack) of homage paid to Black culture, Black artists and activists by the K-pop industry.
*
More exposure and collaboration with other nationalities/races is almost always ultimately a good thing. Homogenous societies like Korea are somewhat unprogressive in their politics and racist in their attitudes, and mingling with more liberal ideas could be a good thing for the industry. There's a lot of room for growth in K-pop.
I think it's inevitable we get more white participants into K-pop. It's also possible that rather than white entrants into K-pop in Korea, what we end up seeing is something more of a hybrid of "K-pop" with more Western ideas of a boy/girl band. So something a bit like FLO, but a group with more of a K-pop structure.
Music entertainment is going to evolve in interesting ways this decade. And I hope to be here for all of it. I hope the same for you too anon.

Okay since you wanted some asks…
🖤 what song makes you happy?
🖤 where’s your favourite holiday destination?
🖤 dream festival line-up?
🖤 what would you like to accomplish by the end of the year?
Wow there are a lot of questions 🥰
🖤 song that makes me happy: it’s impossible to me to choose only one so at the moment I think could be Rango, Golden, Reptilia, Black Madonna, Mamma Mia, Bad Habits from the Kooks, Ho hey and many more honestly 🙈 but they are the first to come up to my mind
🖤 where is my favourite holiday destination: I been in Italy and there is something about the combination of the people, the gastronomy, the city and the ruines that makes me feel overwhelmed of joy, idk if it’s for my grandma o the fact that I feel that Italians are loud and friendly like the Argentinians due to the fact that most of us are descendants of them and we inherit many traditions. I love the cultural scenery and how many layers of different historical periods are mixed it’s amazing.
On the other hand I must admit that I’m in love with English people. I’ve been in London too and i dream every day to visit it again with my friends to go out at night and visit so many pubs as possible. Maybe it’s because I studied English for about 6 years but I melt every time I hear your accent and I loved the musical environment like going around abbey road or walk in Chinatown and see a lot of artists trying to show their talent. How many famous artists that i stan were born there? There is something magical and attractive there for sure. Also the rainy days are not that bad
🖤 dream festival line-up: first of all Catb with the original members of course, despite of all its a dream huh? A few must be are The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Inhaler, Cage the Elephant, the Kooks, the Neighbourhood, Tame Impala, Gorillaz, The 1975, Twenty One Pilots, Maneskin, Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Lewis Capldi, the Gallaher brothers, The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Metallica, Guns n Roses, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, The Cure, Elton John, the Ramones. Lol there are so much i better stop
🖤 what would I like to accomplish by the end of the year: I would like to pass the Italian exam so I could go to Italy for exchange or obtain the scholarship so I could go to Ireland instead, go out and be happy with my friends as much as possible, maybe find love or a musician that breaks my heart? And really I don’t know maybe get good grades too
Thank you dear Em 💞

See, running a ua is a lot of work and I know that. People take a lot of time to do so. No one is obligated to, of course, so it is a choice someone makes but I can appreciate that it takes a lot. Hld have crossed many lines and I’m sure they think they care about Louis so that would be devastating for the people behind the ua but what they were doing is taking advantage of other fans. It’s easy to say that fans don’t have to allow themselves to be taken advantage of by other fans but stan culture does encourage that kind of mindset. I don’t know, do people deserve some sort of compensation for running a ua? It’s complicated, I don’t know what would be fair, but getting people to pay for untrue reports/“unseen” pictures that would be available anyway, it just takes advantage of young and naive fans. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth
That’s a fair question - do people deserve compensation for running a UA?
Ethically, it’s a loaded question, I think.
Big fandoms like 1D become complicated when there are perceived tiers of fans with special access to secret information, like stalkers, for instance. That special treatment is already seen as “compensation” of a sort: in exchange for access, these fans can be employed by the artists’ teams to manipulate the fandom, thus changing the artist-fan relationship.
Similarly, a UA getting financial compensation becomes motivated by an incentive other than pure admiration. The insane, unimaginable numbers of followers makes the UA’s admins parasocial celebrities, even if we don’t know who they are.
It’s an addictive feeling, being “special,” having thousands respond to your actions and words.
Add in money for rumors, and it all becomes a bit like selling lies? It’s one thing to keep up with celebs, and another to profit from news that can affect their mental health, even if the news doesn’t have their consent, or is even TRUE.
Tbh I’m against the idea of fans being “famous” either. It’s the same sort of principle — personal benefit means a change in the artist-fan relationship, for the worse.

In "Relating Social Contextual Knowledge to Graphic Designers’ Practice” by Stan Mauger, graphic design is referred to as a conceptual activity where designers draw heavily on acquired knowledge through to their practices. The paper looks at two designers and their practice to consider the value they placed on their social and conceptual knowledge, and how it corresponds to their work.
This topic was explored by Friedman (1997) and Durling (2000), where the discussion was made clear by the academic community that design – both practice and education, needed a bigger focus on obtaining the necessary knowledge for problem solving. It needed to be beyond visual and technological concerns, which expert designers have come to see.
Graphic designers draw a lot of inspiration for ideas from their own experience, where tacit knowledge gained from their practices becomes experience-based expertise. This is shared with others in their groups which Nonaka and Takeuchi (1995) highlight the importance of this as a way of generating new knowledge. As a designer, the language that is used is likely to be understood best by other designers as opposed to those who are outside of the graphic design practice.
As they work within a social setting where knowledge culture is unavoidable in daily exchanges with client and the problem solving activity, it’s difficult to establish how well each designer recognises the knowledge base they extract from and how they integrate it. The answers to these questions can be found through consideration of if knowledge has been built up and recognised as being relevant within the graphic design field. First being the designer’s social structure, secondly as the surroundings related to the culture of the designer’s firm and thirdly in the field of practice and changing natures within and finally the external social worlds.
A designer’s personal background provides social values to their practice, that of which are usually understood to be the base of an individual’s actions or practice. Links can be made between a designer’s background and the social values that are expressed in their practice; and from these, are open to changes through changing design culture and social settings. Designers share knowledge and as the field is made-up of many aspects of practise, shown by both common and specialised knowledge requirements of technology and social knowledge.
It's essential to understand communicative aspects of graphic design through having social and cultural knowledge that is related to lifestyle and popular culture. A designer’s knowledge is always being altered by external impacts within media. Social knowledge of a designer comes from both personal background and their interactions at different levels.
As designers, we live in an experience economy where we ‘shape the experience of others’ (Sherry, 2002) and because of that, there is new interest in doing ethnographical research into consumer behaviour.

< Spoilers for the star wars Thrawn novels? they arent good so I wouldnt care but if you’re looking at this blog you presumably like unhinged media and might get something out of them. so for your consideration. oh boy > i still cannot from the bottom of my fucking hard believe that the Thrawn trilogy ends with Thrawn looking at Krennic’s Right Hand Guy, this hyperfascist palpatine stan fucking guy who’s done nothing the whole book, and he’s like. Hey Eli my yaoi apprentice Eli my man my Good Imperial friend, take this guy who talks at the Project Stardust BBQ night about how cool he thinks it is that the Jedi were systematically wiped out and how brave Palpatine was for doing it even after they tried to have him killed and turned him into a frog guy man. You know that guy. Take him to the Ascendancy! it’ll be fun it’ll be a good cultural exchange! he’ll learn not to be a racist not to be a Space Eugenicist But Specifically For Force Sensitivity maybe probably, and the Syndicure will learn to Never Fucking Cross Me Again. So you just have Eli this Good Country Boy Imperial Never Did A Thing Wrong Just Works In Logistics guy who’s been getting some weird ideas about if the Empire is good actually now that he’s been a part of an alternative political system for a while. and he’s going “uh hey thrawn. You sure thats a good idea?? You think they’ll be good with that?” and Thrawn going “Yeah He’ll Get Better”. and then you CUT. to the guy’s monologue. And he’s just like “OH MY GOD THE CHISS USE FORCE SENSITIVES TO CALCULATE HYPERSPACE JUMPS JEDI??? BLUE JEDI????? BLUE PADAWAN JEDI THERES JEDI ALIVE IN THE CHISS ASCENDANCY HOLY FUCK DOES PALPATINE KNWO ABOUT THIS?? Someone’s gotta tell him! someone’s gotta tell him theres JEDI oh my gosh he LOVES KILLING JEDI oh I know waht I’m getting him for Life Day now lets see tarkin top this wtih another weird jedi temple he found now lets fucking GOOO” oh and then the prequel thrawn books are basically constantly telling you that the Chiss are fucking 40k blackshipping force sensitives so that nobody has any idea the Chiss can navigate on their own via child soldier labour, because this is basically The Biggest Secret and cannot under any fucking circumstances get out for a second. imagine exiling thrawn because he was the only competent person in your country and then finding out that thrawn fucking escaped exile by joining the human state next door who’re starting to sound Real Fucking Weird about aliens. and then like a few years later he’s somehow one of their biggest guys and this human you recruited because he had to leave the Empire because of Thrawn turns up at your doorstep like a scrungly housecat and says “here’s this fascist who’s seen the navigators he’s absolutely leaking whatever he can to the Head Fascists, directly whenever he can. and also he’s seen the navigators. and we have to let him in because thrawn says so. imagine getting played. because you couldnt imagine the Honorbound Tender Autistic Boy you fucking hated so bad you couldnt stomach look at him so you you had to get rid of him would become so virulently a true fascist believer (i guess???) that he would sell out. the entire state. imagine having to come into work at corruption parliament after that. what was zahn saying with literally any of this. what
