Hi! I just wanted to drop in and say how much it means to me that you've been such a positive, wonderful presence in the Hackearney fandom! There's so much awfulness out there regarding this ship, but you and so many others refused to be cowed by it and I absolutely adore that! The past couple of months experiencing all the stunning content of this community - from the art and fics, to the analysis and headcanons, and your incredible anons with their fantastic ideas - has been one of the best times I've had as part of a fandom in a long time, despite the unpleasantness of some people.
Everyone is so lovely and supportive, and even though I've been fairly quiet until recently despite being here since pretty much the beginning (it takes me a while to get the confidence to engage in new fandoms, bad past experiences lol) I feel so much love for every single person here, and you are such a huge part of that! You are a creator and conduit for so much wonderful stuff, and every single day I am thankful for you and this fandom. I love and respect you all so dearly, thank you for everything, you have been such a bright spot in my life this whole time. It makes every day a nicer, happier time! This ship of our beloved Laura and Travis is always on my mind, and it just makes every day that little bit easier to get through, especially with such creative and wonderful fellow shippers! Official Damirae Zine Announcement!
Welcome to the DamiRae Zine 2022!
Greetings fellow shippers! With the enormous success of last year’s zine and all the beautiful works that came out of it, we’ve decided round 2 is definitely in order.
For those of you newer to the fandom who may be wondering what this is all about, a fanzine (fan magazine or zine) is a non-professional and unofficial publication, produced by enthusiasts and fans of a particular popular cultural interest, for the pleasure of others who share your interest. In other words, a Zine is an unofficial project, unaffiliated to DC Comics, made for our nice little fandom. Fanart and fanfics galore!
In celebration of our second year, the first Zine is now available for free download. HERE
The title for this year’s zine is "Ordinary Worlds," and the theme is cinematic and literary AU’s. Give your favorite book or movie a Demonbird makeover! If you’d like to participate, please message us here on Tumblr or in the DamiRae discord with an explicit ‘yes’ that you’ll be contributing. We’re looking for about 25 creators in total, but may expand this if the interest is great enough and if we organizers can find the bandwidth.

Story Requirements:
Must submit a sample of your writing in order to be considered, although it does not have to be a new story. Betas and proofreaders will be available to help with translated works and anyone who just needs help with the technicals.
1k minimum word count for stories. Writers who require assistance with beta/editing will have a 3-5k word limit (~10 pages). Those who don’t have a 10k limit. This will be decided by the staff based on the writing sample you submit.
Maximum 2 stories per writer
Art Requirements:
Maximum 8 pages (= 4 full spreads)
A4 format, 300dpi // 3508 X 2480 pixels OR 297 X 210 mm — whichever measure is more comfortable
Nothing over 600 dpi, and final files preferably PNG, if not, JPEG
Color mode RGB, as it is friendlier for digital viewing
Timeline:
December 20th: Signups officially close and art/story ideas are due. The participant list and table of contents will be announced shortly after on Tumblr.
Signups may close earlier if we exceed how many creators we think we can successfully work with
March 1st: Deadline for sending ALL FINAL works.
April 1st: Estimated launch date for the zine. This may be sooner or later depending on how long it takes to put everything together. At that time you can purchase a digital copy for $10 with all the proceeds (minus processing fees) donated to charity.

Heyo, fellow Inuyasha fans! Happy Friday! This particular blog will serve as a collection of random thoughts I’ve been mulling over lately. Hope you’ll consider giving it a read. By the way, it’ll specifically pertain to the Sessrin ship. If that’s not something that is of interest to you, then no need to read any further. Whatever happens, I wanted to get this out before the sequel. Alrighty, let’s go!
I’m not sure many of us realize just how much fiction sparks public dialogue and shapes culture. There have been countless studies and research done to prove it, therefore this really isn’t up for debate. What the real question here should be is have we taken the time to fully contemplate and assess just how much fictional experiences are able to change or influence our perspective on real, everyday life? The visual arts are just one of many evolutionary adaptations that serve to give us more insight into one another’s mind. If our outlook on fiction contrasts with said insight, then perhaps some re-evaluating is in order.
Powerful works of literature such as 1984 and the beloved Harry Potter series are just two examples. George Orwell’s book contributed strongly to how readers viewed government and politics during that time, and to this day it’s a book that resonates with many. As much as Harry Potter is cherished all across the world, there are religious and academic institutions that condemn it or have even gone so far as to ban it. I may not agree with the extreme measures taken, but it’s fascinating nonetheless to witness the extent to which fiction can move and mobilize people for a cause.
The takeaway is that indicating fiction doesn’t have the power to create change in our everyday lives is misleading to say the least. So how exactly then can fictional stories that are, after all, completely made up affect society in such profound ways? It all lies in the power of the psychology of fiction. According to cognitive psychologist and novelist, Keith Oatley, who’s been researching the psychological effects of fiction for over a decade, he states that engaging with stories about other people can improve empathy and theory of mind. When we identify with these characters’ struggles, we begin to share their frustration for societal problems that plague them. These types of stories tap into our emotions more so than- believe it or not- nonfiction, and thus their effects inspire us and even have the ability to alter our worldviews.
I’ll be returning to that specific topic a bit later, but moving on for now!
It’s safe to say that I speak on behalf of the majority of antis. That being said, I first want to add that we are aware that sessrin shippers claim to agree that there was nothing inherently romantic that took place between Rin and Sesshomaru during their travels together. The thing is we have trouble believing you guys when you time and time again provide contradictory statements to defend your stance.
Voicing things like, “all signs point to Rin” and “it’s been foreshadowed” sends the exact opposite message of what you supposedly stand for and, if anything, confirms that you’ve had romance on your mind long before it would’ve been acceptable to come out with openly. You can’t just go along with what we say when it’s convenient to your argument and then back it up later with “who else but Rin.” How can the relationship you’re imagining be so obvious if they didn’t hint at it for the whole duration of the original series like we agreed upon? Elaborate on how we could’ve possibly come to such wildly different conclusions when we started AND left off with the same views for and throughout the series.
On top of that, making the excuse that we don’t speak for adult!Rin and that she has the right to make her own decisions once she’s old enough is a weak defense. Firstly, because we haven’t even met her. Secondly, because it’s unfair of you to assert that you know what’s best for Rin and then say we’re not allowed to just because it doesn’t align with your beliefs. I get that you feel protective over her character, but do recall that this adult version of her none of us have actually met yet. We have no idea what kind of woman she’s become, what her dreams or aspirations may be, and whether she’s married or even wants to be. I’m not against the idea of her falling in love, I just don’t think it’ll be with Sesshomaru. I guess I’m also a fan of the idea of her following in Kaede’s footsteps, because if anyone can grow up to be an independent, trusted, and wise leader of the community like her it’s Rin.
To make matters worse, way too many of you continue to celebrate the drama cd and profess that it was sweet that Sesshomaru basically promised he’d wait for Rin all while somehow ignoring the glaring grooming implications. Why do you only see what you want to see and fail to acknowledge that actual child grooming scenarios do in fact play out like this in real life? A high percentage of people who have been victims of grooming can attest to this. If Sessrin does go canon, all the sequel succeeded in doing to avoid the direct correlation with grooming was skip over the more questionable and dodgy portions of it. Take out the time jump, however, and you no longer have a loophole to cover up the scary unmistakable truth, which is that Sessrin and grooming are essentially one in the same.
No one case is identical to another so please don’t come to me with your “but how is it grooming if Sesshomaru didn’t manipulate Rin” refutes. Nobody knows what the hell went on during those years between The Final Act and this upcoming sequel. Based on everything exhibited so far- that is if we decide to recognize the drama cd like so many of you choose to do- Sessrin’s dynamic is eerily reminiscent of real life child grooming. Why else do you think a lot of us fans have a huge problem with it? It’s triggering for a reason.
Let’s be honest, Sesshomaru’s supposed love confession could’ve just been the first of many gestures like it. Who really knows, right? According to you shippers, a major shift in their relationship took place sometime during this critical period none of us got to watch unfold. I’m sure you all have explored the various ways this would’ve gone down in fan fiction and through other creative means of expression. Not to spoil the fun, but all I can’t help but wonder about is just how many of those supposed “cute moments” would’ve been as creepy and cringey as that proposal. Hundreds of thousands (possibly millions?!) of fans would undoubtedly agree with me, too. It seems to me this ain’t due to a mere difference of opinion. Taste is one thing, ethics a whole other.
By the way, in case you didn’t know, groomers don’t necessarily need to plan out every single move in order for their behavior to constitute as grooming. What we should be paying attention to instead is the fact that Sesshomaru made a conscious decision to act on his own selfish desire for a young girl who couldn’t have possibly known in that moment the magnitude of what he was asking of her. Why is it that a vulnerable Rin is put in a position that forces her to be the one responsible for making such a big, life-changing decision for the both of them? Yes, Sesshomaru gave her the choice and, yes, she doesn’t have to make it till later, but why on Earth is he coming to her with this well before a child her age is ready and mature enough to handle it? Even if his intentions are good (broadly speaking of course), his what you shippers probably call “innocent acts” are incidentally coercing Rin into reciprocating his feelings. Whether he planned for that or not, he’s at fault. Period.
That’s one way the power imbalance works. A child wants nothing more than to please the adult they look up to and adore, because they’re impressionable like that. Maybe Rin processes this like she’ll want whatever he wants, so that’s what she trains herself to believe- either right then and there or over time. Plus, if you really think about it, why wouldn’t she trust him if in her eyes he’s been nothing but good to her and that’s all she’s ever really known? (Psst! Charm is integral to the manipulative nature of grooming so it’s deceiving AKA manipulation can come off as praise or flattery.) Bottom line is that Rin is too young to have to think about this kind of deep stuff at all, and Sesshomaru shouldn’t have taken advantage of the power he had/has over her to influence a decision she was by no means prepared to hear about much less decide on. Your headcanons seem to imply that she’ll eventually have to choose though, and Idk about you but I rather not push my own fantasy agenda onto a underage girl regardless of how much I want it. Idc if she’s fictional, it wouldn’t feel right so why would I want to see that? My principals couldn’t ever allow for it.
Even if it wasn’t an official proposal, per se, it’s still disturbing to me that so many of you find joy in the thought of a grown adult male essentially waiting for a young girl HE KNEW to become old enough before pursuing her. I know this drama cd ain’t technically canon, y'all, but since this is literally the only source we have that may foreshadow a potential Sessrin to come, and it’s referenced a lot, I figured it still should be called out for exactly what it is- Grooming: 101!!!!
Just as I demonstrated above, fiction has the ability to make even the most inappropriate and uncomfortable situations be viewed in a favorable light when you put the right spin on it. *cough* Lolicon culture, need I say more? *cough* Despite what you may believe, the strategies fiction utilizes to explain themes/concepts can genuinely lead to how we perceive them, and ultimately to how we come to make sense of a similar event presented to us in real life. Especially if we have no prior experience with any of it and have nothing to compare something to, these perceptions can be dangerous yet still persuasive to certain fans- young ones in particular. The more narrative consistency across stories and different mediums, the more likely they’ll influence social beliefs. Minors don’t possess the same capacity as adults to think critically about the content they consume, and if we aren’t more careful about what we put out there then all of us will continue to face serious repercussions.
This is precisely why it’s crucial we persist in our fight against the rabid phenomenon of glorifying young girls in every sexual context imaginable. Just look at what something as seemingly harmless as fiction has the power to do. The scope of fiction is broad and far-reaching, and it’s about time we stop denying that fact and actually do something about it if we have the means to.
The truth of the matter is that we’re in desperate need of proper education and training programs on this issue in our communities. Families need to ensure their children have access to the necessary resources, but it isn’t just on them. ALL of us gotta do our part and ALL of us should be up for the task. It takes a village, right? If we do not properly discuss and address child sexual abuse (CSA) with our children and in public forums, including the internet, then we’re ultimately accepting incidents of CSA should they arise. Consequently, that also translates to indirectly accepting that the predators among us stay untreated and/or unpunished. That’s how the generational and societal aspect of the abuse can continue, and we must do everything in our power to secure our children’s future. Yes, even when it comes to fiction.
If you still somehow don’t think the Sessrin pairing has anything to do with grooming, allow me to break this down for you one more time:
1. If some of your fellow sessrin shippers say that a relationship like this in real life is harmful, then that should be pretty telling in and of itself.
2. Piggybacking off #1: if your only defense to that is “well it’s just fiction,” then you should ask yourself why you can’t ever come up with better reasons. Same goes for history and culture, so please stop using those to justify this relationship. None of the above can or should be applied since it’s already been established that fiction pervades our lives and vice versa.
3. If fellow shippers who are victims of grooming say they are drawn to Sessrin because it allows them in a way to “take back control” from their abuser so that they can better cope with past traumas, then they’re inadvertently admitting that Sessrin does possess qualities associated with the past child sexual abuse they underwent. AKA Sessrin is relatable for its abusive dynamic.
I have to ask by the way, but why do you get so offended when we don’t support your ship anyway? Is it because we interpret it to be controversial and you don’t like your ship getting a bad rap? Is it because it would be insulting to admit that antis actually have a point in it being problematic and you rather double down instead? Or is it because you’re projecting yourself onto Rin and prefer to not go into detail about why that is? Maybe it’s too personal, or maybe it’s because deep down you’re ashamed. Of course that doesn’t mean you’re bad people, but suppressing these kind of negative emotions can’t be healthy for anyone. A little awareness and self-reflection on your part can benefit not just you but all of us in the long run. Cognitive dissonance can suck, but it’s also part of being human.
I recently came across a comment I’d like to share with you. Unfortunately, this is not the first time nor will it be the last I see the likes of it. Anyway, in it a fan stated how embarrassing it must be being an Anti in this fandom when an episode like “Forever with Lord Sesshomaru” exists. Guys, this shipper and all those who liked their post are showing their true colors. Perpetuating and/or anticipating these sexualized images of young girls is a grave issue in both our society and media alike. I think we can all agree on that, or at least I hope so. It’s remarks like these that prove we still got a long way to go in terms of progress, and if we ever hope to effectively reverse some of our backwards way of thinking. So serious question for ya in regard to this: Why is it too much to ask that grooming be portrayed for what it is? Grooming. To clarify, grooming is bad and needs to be painted in a bad light. It’s as simple as that. If only we could all acknowledge it for what it is, we wouldn’t be in this predicament.
Historical accuracy and cultural differences aside, it appears the crux of the matter between Sessrin shippers and Antis is our acceptance and/or denial of fiction’s influence on real life. If we can’t agree on this, then we’ll never agree on anything else. As mentioned earlier, there is more than enough evidence to support the idea that fiction impacts our lives in extraordinary ways. I, for one, believe in the transformative power of stories. I think they do more for us than many of us give them credit for and/or are inclined to admit.
This is partially why I believe that the majority of sessrin folk are missing the point most of the time. All they do is focus on insignificant and irrelevant information that accomplishes nothing but more gaslighting and strawmanning. Whether it be an intentional or unconscious decision, whatever we argue goes right over their head. All they do is throw around deflections and antagonizing remarks that serve no real purpose other than to make Antis out to be the unreasonable and irrational ones. Making connections between our own lives and our stories is a completely natural and normal occurrence. If those particular shippers insist on denying just how interconnected real life and fiction both are, what that tells me is they’re either out of touch with reality or deliberately choose to be.
Just to be clear, I am of the opinion that most if not all antis aren’t real life predators. If they say they aren’t, I honestly take their word for it. Speaking to Sessrin shipper directly: We know it’s not Sesshomaru you want to be but Rin. No, we’re not calling you pedophiles or groomers. None of us think you are using a fictional ship to attract underage fans to be the Rin in your life or anything of the sort. We are well aware that many of you are self-inserting yourself as Rin, so please don’t feel the need to tell us yourself because that would be stating the obvious.
I learned from a few of you since this sequel was announced that the Sessrin relationship isn’t just a ship but an opportunity for you to confront the person who used and abused you. So there’s two issues with this I’d like to raise. (Sorry if I’m repeating myself, but it’s urgent I stress this again!) This is what I have to say:
If fiction does not affect real life or have the ability to normalize anything as you claim to believe, then why does “fixing” what happened to you via your preferred choice of coping associated with these two characters in the first place? Why bring your past abuse into this at all if at the end of the day it’s “just fiction” and nothing more to you but a source of entertainment?
By confessing that you use Sessrin to cope with your past trauma, you therein reveal that Sessrin does in fact resemble an adult-child relationship with a grooming dynamic. So why then would you want other fans to be exposed to a pairing that brings to mind the very abuse you endured? We’re supposed to stop this toxic cycle- NOT find more ways to manifest and relive it, much less subject other fans to it.
You may think that Sessrin doesn’t fit the textbook definition of what child grooming is, but that’s not to say it doesn’t embody it or that it doesn’t at the very least have traces of it that stand out.
“Antis are miserable people who don’t know how to enjoy a good story. It’s just fiction, stop ruining it for other fans!”
Well, no, it’s not just fiction or just a story. Some of you evidently went and proved that yourself, and without my help, by revealing how you relate Sessrin to your own life and apply it to cope with past abuse. Past abuse or not, as far as I can tell we’re all equally invested in these characters. That speaks volumes and just goes to show that fiction touches our lives in long-lasting ways.
I have something I want to say concerning some of who believe that it’s inconsiderate of antis who have been victims of grooming or another form of child abuse to tell other victims who ship Sessrin how they should cope with their trauma. Now as much as I respect the various means victims discover to deal with their painful pasts, there’s always an appropriate time and a place for these things to occur. We must seek out better ways to safely cope with the abuse we lived through (if any) without running the risk of hurting and endangering others.
There are plenty of fans in other fandoms who don’t try to defend their ships going canon, because they’re able to recognize an unhealthy or toxic pairing when they see one and won’t try to justify it. A Sessrin romance simply does not belong on a show geared towards teens, and I really don’t need to go into detail about why we shouldn’t support it, at least canon-wise. Shipping Sessrin is your right, but if you don’t keep it to yourself and your corner of the fandom then you really shouldn’t be surprised by the opposition. All we ask is you respect that their specific dynamic falls under the category of child grooming (or very close) and should be treated as such in public. The world of fiction may be wider than the world we live in, but that doesn’t always mean “anything goes.” In the creative spaces our minds occupy we must still adhere to the same fundamental and moral guidelines we live by in life. There’s nothing wrong with exploring new terrains and experimenting with ideas, but we must also remember that our stories are all about communicating and connecting with people. So let’s please be more mindful of the sort of messages they’re sending.
Besides, this isn’t only about you and what makes you feel safe, it’s about all of us. I don’t know how much more I can stress that really. How can thoughts endanger our children, you ask? Well, it’s not like we’re suggesting that our thoughts can jump out of our tvs, materialize themselves, and place kids under mind control. The forces behind fiction are a lot more complex and nuanced than a “monkey see, monkey do” approach, so don’t waste any more time trying to describe that to us. You’re taking this argument in the wrong direction.
Take the “violent video games breed killers” theory. I’m afraid you’re misconstruing what we’re saying and then taking it quite too literally. Please stop twisting our words, because nobody on our side is saying that just because you play violent video games that you’ll become a violent person. The Sessrin equivalent of that would be if you ship them then you must be a pedophile or turning into one. *sigh* I know you guys are feeling attacked, but I’m afraid your defensive nature is keeping you from thinking straight. Clearly, there are always exceptions (I’d recommend reading up on the Slender Man case), but Antis aren’t saying you’re one of them.
You see, it’s not so much about the content as it is the notion of the content. Kids and teens who are playing these video games have been informed that killing is wrong, because they grew up learning that early on like the rest of us. No sane person would advocate for violence and nonsensical killing in real life. Since they fully understand the severity of the consequences of killing a person in real life, they are able make a clear distinction between the two. When it comes to killing there is hardly any ambiguity. Sadly, that is far from the truth when it comes to sexualizing girls. It should immediately be perceived as wrong leaving no room for interpretation, and yet here we are still putting up with these inaccurate and demeaning female representations.
Most children who have been groomed don’t realize it till years down the road. If they aren’t ever taught the telltale signs to properly labeling grooming situations, how do you expect them to make sense of and relate to a fictional version? Let’s think of about it from a child’s perspective. Yes, this includes teens who rely pretty heavily on adult guidance and the content we put out there for them. Put yourself in their shoes for a moment and picture that you’ve never had child grooming explained to you (because that’s just the reality for so many unfortunately). Wouldn’t you say it’s possible for them to deduce that what they see on their screens is how they come to discern something in real life, especially if they have little to no experience with it? Perceived realism is plausible, y'all.
What it comes down to in the end is that the ideas and emotions we cultivate behind these stories leave an impression on others. Impressions are capable of influencing the way we see the world, which in turn affects us and beyond just our imagination. The way I look at it, stories contribute to how and why we normalize certain beliefs and trends. If fiction reflects real life like most of us tend to agree, then wouldn’t you say Sessrin is a (in)direct result of this world’s tendency to place young girls in overly sexual or romantic environments? Where do you think fiction draws its inspiration from? Sure, some of it originates from our imagination, but most of what drives us to create these stories is the real world and the people who live in it.
Fiction is meant to mirror reality, but it’s ridiculous to suggest that it’s only a one-way street. That fiction in no way, shape, or form influences our reality? Or that it only works the other way around? With all due respect, that’s simply not true. No productive discourse can be had if we choose to ignore the truth and don’t come together (at least halfway) to tackle the real issues at hand.
Okay, I think I’ll leave it off there! Thanks so much for reading. I expect this to be my last blog on any topic regarding Inuyasha in the near future. As much as I’ve looked forward to answering all of your asks and writing all the blogs I have over these past almost 5 months, I think it’s best if I spend some time away for now. With the sequel fast approaching, I’m doing what I always do: hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. I’ve met some amazing people along the way, that’s for sure. o What is the Shyan Shipping Society (Server)?
The shipping society is a discord server owned by @bradpistachio where a bunch of shippers gather to chat about anything: their lives; the boys; other fanworks like fanfics and fanart; annoying antis; we have a writing lab to talk about your own works, and much more! The server is filled with amazing artists like madamecrimson, @helloitsvehere, @pizzacastella, sonzaishinai and many more. The server is an active and welcoming community. In the server, I also roll out the updates for this challenge and answer all your questions. Will we see you there?
o Do i need to join the server to post?
It's not required! The server is a lil' bonus, a place where you can talk with fellow shippers about anything, but also where i will be reminding you of the challenge. We have handful of channels dedicated to this writing challenge, so it might help you out. It's also easier for me to follow, and whenever you have questions i will reply faster there than anywhere else. But, again, it's not necessary.
o If i join the challenge once, am i required to join every month?
Most definitely not! You're free to join and leave whenever you want. Sometimes a prompt doesn't inspire you, or life dragged you away from writing and that's completely valid! This challenge is supposed to be a fun way to motivate you to express yoursef through your art, but it's not school so don't ever feel pressured :).
o What tags do i include, what are the ratings we work in?
There are no required ratings and/or tags for you to use. In general, the prompts are all focused on Shyan, but if you'd like to add Standrew as a background relationship, feel free!! If the prompt is Watcher-oriented, but you feel like you need a bit of that spice that Curly brings with him, i encourage you! On top of that, you're free to choose whichever ratings you feel fit best. Personally, i mostly live off of M- and E-rated fics, but if you're uncomfortable with graphic descriptions of anything, and would rather keep it a fluffy G-rated fic, then knock yourself out! I believe you know what's best for your work!
On the shipping server, the prompt will have a set of recommended tags, these are ideas i'd write the prompt in, but they aren't mandatory. If it says 'friends to lovers' but you'd rather write 'established relationship' then feel free! It's your work after all.
o Is there a minimum and/or maximum word count?
There is a minimum word count of 50 words right now, to show that you're seriously participating (i mean, wouldn't want "he smiled, they kissed, they fucked, the end" as a fic, right?). Your work does not have to be finished in order to fulfill the prompt, you can write one chapter, or one paragraph and edit it later when you have more time. If a prompt inspires you enough to write a long fic about it, don't feel pressured to finish it within a month! Take your time!! All we ask is for you to have written a start, and post that to the collection.
o i am no writer, but i’d love to make art for this in another way, is that possible?
Of course! originally the challenge was only made for writers, because the server was filled with a majority of writers. however, over the past few weeks we’ve had a handful of artists join our little community as well, people like sonza and @berakangkang. Sonza has blessed us by filling the October prompt as well, so if you’re an artist and you’d like to participate, please join! we love love love your art. honestly. the server goes wild on fanart.
o When do i post my submission?
Everyone who joins the challenge, posts their submission on the same day. This is the last 48 hours of a month - CET timezone. The next prompt will have been rolled out a day before we open submissions, so you can get familiar with it for a day or two before starting on it.
o I don't think i'll reach the deadline, now what?
You can contact me privately about this through our discord server - for fast replies - or via my email ([email protected]). I will open the collection for you so you can submit it later. Keep an eye on the deadline though, a challenge won't be reopened a month after the deadline.
o I have an amazing idea for a prompt, where do i submit it?
On the discord server, we have a channel named 'prompts-and-ideas' where some of these prompts even came from, you can submit them there and @ me so i'd know it's for the writing challenge.

One of the things that has been a constant thread in my “Voltron” fandom experience is that it has repeated my “Sherlock” experience in an almost scarily similar path.
When I started watching “Sherlock”, I didn’t ship anything right away. I thoroughly enjoyed the character of Sherlock and quite liked the pathologist, Molly Hooper, that was a recurring character. I identified with her a bit, the kind of quiet one that people don’t notice so much, and looked for her appearances. Then “The Reichenbach Fall” happened. And Sherlock flat-out said that he trusted Molly and needed her.
That got my attention.
Then “The Empty Hearse” happened, including this scene:
Yes, it was only in another character’s imagination, but there were plenty of real interactions between them, showing both just how good a team they can be and how much was unresolved between them.
I dove headfirst into fanfic and Tumblr and found a wonderful community full of Sherlolly shippers that supported each other, had fun together, and (very importantly) had decided, as is proper, that canon was irrelevant when it came to shipping.
Too bad a subset of shippers for another pairing, the most popular pairing in the fandom, didn’t see it that way. And said subset of shippers was behaving in some very ugly and harmful ways.
There was deliberate tagging of hate with the ship name. There were insults hurled through anon asks. There was mocking and there were attempts to ignore the Sherlolly fans at cons and such. There were attempts to discredit the ship with claims of an abusive dynamic or being unforgivably heteronormative. There were incredibly involved theories, some with a reach like Elastigirl, delivered as gospel truth instead of hopeful speculation and prediction for their ship. There were the constant questions, the same variations on a theme, asked of the producers. There was online abuse and even death threats made to some of the cast.
And while yes, salt was met with salt at times, for the most part Sherlolly shippers took it in stride and either ignored the hate or turned the insults into amusement. For example, the claims of all Sherlolly shippers being cishet girly girls who were also extinct like dinosaurs birthed Lolly the dino, habitual con attendee:
And then the last season happened. Including this:
Of course there were arguments over this. Sherlock was under duress, being forced to play the villain’s game and somehow get Molly to say those words to him. She made him say it first.
The first time he was doing it because he had to. But then he said it a second time, realization dawning. And at the end of the episode we got a shot of Molly walking into Sherlock’s apartment, beaming and happy, with the strong implication that they were at the very least better friends than ever, if not a couple.
The fallout was vicious in some circles. There was the group that spent months insisting that there was one more “secret” episode of the season coming, one that would fix everything and make their ship canon. There were loud accusations of queerbaiting - I don’t know enough about some of the press and interviews during production, but most of what I have seen has not shown it.
But the Sherlolly shippers, more than anything else, celebrated this unexpected and delightful gift and continue to shape a fun and supportive community.
So, I had a great fandom experience with “Sherlock”, going in with no expectations, only hopes, and had those hopes rewarded with some powerful interactions between my characters, a fabulous community to interact with, a ton of lovely fanfic to read, and, in the end, at least a semi-canonical status that I had not anticipated.
Enter “Voltron”.
Fastened onto a character that I related to in Keith? Check.
Didn’t really feel any ships right away except a vague Kallura? Check.
Blindsided by Shiro and Keith’s interactions in Season 2? Check.
Dove into the fanfic and Tumblr? Check.
Discovered that there was another ship that was super-popular, with fans who were convinced that it was endgame? Check.
Saw those fans proposing theories based on the thinnest of infrequent character interactions, ignoring the steadily-building evidence that Keith and Shiro have the closest relationship on the show? Check.
Saw those fans cross-tagging their hate? Check.
Saw those fans try to inaccurately paint our ship as pedophilia/incest/a dangerous power imbalance/abusive? Check.
Saw those fans badgering cast and crew with questions designed to force them to canonize their ship and invalidate ours? Check.
Saw those fans suicide-bait our shippers and issue death threats to cast and crew? Check.
And saw our fans meet salt with salt when their patience was worn thin, but overall stay in our lane and focus on our ship? Supportive and fun and creative fellow shippers? Check and check.
The two biggest differences have been:
(1) There’s no question of queerbaiting this time. The producers have been clear on multiple occasions that the juggernaut ship surprised them in its popularity. That, being animation, they can’t go back and change the story to include that ship, even if they wanted to. That they are telling the story they planned to tell and have fought to try and include LGBT+ rep. The producers are not queerbaiting anything; they just never intended to present the ship that sprang up unexpectedly as a popular one.
(2) This happened, 2/3 through the series instead of in the final episode:
And Sheith shippers are celebrating. Many of us aren’t worried about whether we get more than this in canon and are perfectly happy to continue drawing our art, writing our fic, and editing our vids, no matter what the last seasons hold. We have no expectations, only hopes.
Just like Sherlolly shippers, we’re feeling really good about our ship. And all rival shippers have to do is go celebrate what they love about their ship instead of trying to tear ours down. It really is a lot more fun that way.

Gotham – s4e19 – To Our Deaths and Beyond
As I watched it, and some random observations here and there.
Previously on Gotham
Ra's and his magic dagger. He’s walked this earth for centuries, and only Bruce can kill him. Butch throttled Oswald, and made Oswald promise about the possibility of a cure for him. Ed loves Lee and he’s loved her all along. Barbara has a magic hand! Tabitha doesn’t, and has to endure a beating. Random weird guys still worship Ra’s. Death is only an illusion.
As always, long post will be long. There are likely to be rambling digressions. Gobblepot might appear (although I welcome all shippers and non-shippers alike :)). There will be naked favouritism and naked not-favouritism. Broader comments at the end on plotlines and parallels and general direction.
Barbara is standing about in the drafty vault that she’s so taken with. Suddenly, a knife is planted in the forehead of her possible predecessor, or previous incarnation, or whatever she’s decided the woman in the dodgy portrait is.
Turning, Barbara sees masked assassins. She fights them off, but is quickly overwhelmed. They unmask themselves, and we see it’s her assistants. It was a test, since the Demon’s Head is supposed to be able to know past, present and future – but Barbara couldn’t sense their approach.
Barbara is irritated. She reiterates that she is the Demon’s Head – her hand is a freaking light bulb, after all.
Her acolytes aren’t impressed – she hasn’t accessed her real powers yet. Barbara, in turn, is sick of being questioned by everyone. Leila tells Barbara that Ra’s could see the future, and this is what she is trying to trigger in Barbara. Barbara tells her not to go easy next time.
In the possible Batmobile, Bruce and Selina are driving somewhere at Tabitha’s request. Is it a manual or an automatic? There’s some mild flirting before they stop at a church. They exit the car. Why is Bruce leaving the lights on? Dramatic effect?
They enter the church. There’s a lot of hooded figures around, and Bruce – who has a bad history with hooded figures – is instantly nervous, asking Tabitha why he’s there. Two figures grab Bruce, who struggles. Selina is also held back, and tells Bruce that Tabitha didn’t tell her about this part.
The hooded figures need Bruce’s blood to bring back Ra’s. Bruce – who knows Ra’s wanted to die, and is still pretty traumatised over that whole affair – struggles, and tries to explain about Ra’s’ wishes, but it’s no use.
Chanting, they slice Bruce’s hand open with a knife. This show really hates hands. As the blood drips, they chant. We see Selina, still held back, looking upset.
Ra’s corpse starts to spring back to life. Bruce yells that they have no idea what they’ve done, but they hit him on the head and pull him away. He passes out momentarily, but comes round again to see a gnarled hand reaching over the side of the tomb.
GCPD, where Jim and Harvey are talking about the recent robberies. Five in one night, apparently. Harper comments that they’re all Gotham Savings and Loan. Jim wonders whether someone is proving how smart they are. Harvey guesses that he means Ed – and Jim says it does fit his pattern. He says he knows someone to talk to for more info. Harvey tells him to say hi to Lee, and congratulate her for her marksmanship with Sofia.
(An aside. I know they can’t strictly play by the rules – but there’s not a lot of consistency about what will get you arrested, charged, and put away in Gotham. Lee hasn’t been arrested for the attempted murder of Sofia. Oswald was sent down for the suspected murder of Martin – but seemed to face no consequences for stabbing his fellow diner at Pyg’s dinner. Like I said – I know they can’t really abide properly by the law – but it means that it’s really difficult to know when a character is really at risk of being arrested and charged. And when it does happen – it feels a bit inconsistent.)
At the Narrows, where money is being distributed to the people. Lee watches with hand on hips, before wandering over to stand beside Ed at the bar.
Look at them - we did good
Ed frowns. He says his brilliance robbed the banks, and now the people here are drowning in cigarettes and booze. Lee says they will also buy food, clothes and medicine, but turns to look at him and – seeing his expression – asks what’s wrong. He regards her seriously.
What am I to you?
She replies.
A friend, a partner
Ed tilts his head.
Are you always this amorous with your friends? I know that only happened once…
She cuts him of with an Ed – but he tersely tells her not to call him that.
Lee says she cares about him and depends on him. She looks and sounds sincere.
Ed looks at her seriously, a little sadly.
You’re not stringing me along, are you - Lee?
She smiles at him, a slightly teasing expression on her face.
Don't you want to find out the answer to the riddle?
Ed smiles back – face lightening.
Maybe I do
She asks if he’s good for tomorrow night, and he replies that tomorrow night will be a work of art. Their smiling and flirting is interrupted, however.
That sounds promising
It’s Oswald and Butch.
Oswald grins and tells Ed and Lee to count them in.
Neither Ed nor Lee looks happy about this.
(An aside. Ed has pretty much unalloyed contempt for the residents of the Narrows – but his point stands. The problems in the Narrows are deep-rooted, complicated, and long-standing. Just handing out money isn’t going to fix anything at all – and is likely to worsen many problems. Lee’s solutions are still ultimately facile, short-term, and short-sighted. On top of that – the people we see in Cherry’s are not the people we saw, for example, when GCPD and the Pax mob raided that apartment block. Those people might not be able to make it out to Cherry’s, or might be intimidated by the usual clientele. So – what happens to them? Do they get a share? It just doesn’t work.)
Back at church, Bruce is passed out. Selina tells Tabitha she could have told her – but Tabitha says that then she wouldn't have brought him. Selina confirms this.
Yeah – because he's my friend
Tabitha snaps at her
And what is Barbara? What am I?
A not-very-well-fleshed-out season 4 side-line for Selina’s character, Tabitha? Also – neither of you seemed to have the slightest concern over where Selina was during Jerome’s break-out, so meh.
Tabitha tells her to pick a side and stick to it.
Up at the holy end, Ra’s is using his monster voice to scold his acolytes. One protests that Barbara started a war – but Ra’s says this was his will: the League was rotten and needed cleaning out, to be reborn through violence. He kills the guy for his troubles.
Another more suitably grovelly guy wisely prefaces his comment by telling Ra’s that they would all gladly die for him – but that Barbara doesn’t serve the League. She’s limited and selfish.
Tabitha approaches and says she agrees with this.
There’s general agreement that if Barbara keeps the Head, the League will die. Tabitha says he should take it back from her, but Ra's tells Tabitha Barbara must give it to him – and if she doesn’t, he’ll kill her and rip it from her corpse.
Back at Cherry’s, Oswald is telling Ed and Lee that they owe both him and Butch. Ed laughs and asks how. Oswald replies.
Because we made you - both of you
Oswald reminds Ed that he released the trapped Riddler. Butch points out that he made Lee a lot of money, and that she’d still be stitching up cage-fighters ringside without him. Oswald says that he needs the money to buy back Sofia’s capos, and that Butch is saving up for medical treatment.
Ed laughs incredulously. Oswald asks what they’ve taken - 3 or 4 million? They’ll happily go halfsies.
Lee tells Oswald to bite her. She doesn't like people coming into her club and telling her what to do, and making threats - implicit or otherwise. And she especially doesn't like people telling her they made her
Ed applauds, and gives her a well-said
Oswald glances from one to the other and immediately twigs
Are you kidding me?
Oswald clearly doesn’t find it believable that an ex of Jim’s would be interested in hooking up with Ed. That’d be like going from prime rib to…. weird brother of prime rib.
I miss the Arrested Gotham tumblr. Please come back.
Lee says they’re done, and quickly tries to retreat, but Oswald continues. He tells Ed he thought he’d got past all that when he became Riddler again, but plainly it was passed along like a virus. He tells him that Lee knows it too, and is using him. He turns to her, with a faux-moral expression on his face.
Shame on you - stringing along this troubled man
Butch steps forward, but Oswald stops him, and says that they didn't come for violence - they came in hope that their friends would honour their debts. Before they leave, he whispers a loud aside to Ed.
Little advice: be sure to skim some off the top for when she tosses you aside
Butch and Oswald leave, leaving Ed and Lee looking troubled.
Barbara is still in the vault, looking at some map. She hears someone approach
It kinda defeats the purpose if I can hear you
Hello Barbara
Barbara turns, wide-eyed, and asks him what happened. He says it’s a long story, and judgily asks what she has done with his gift. She tells him he might have left a how-to, and a heads up that the old boys’ club don't appreciate women.
Ra’s ignores this, and asks about her plans – and if she’s been rebuilding. He notices books (with a tumbler of booze left on them - use a coaster, Barbara) and says she’s read his histories.
Barbara says needs to do her own thing, which turns out to be ruling Gotham, with people worshipping her like a queen
How disappointing
Barbara is mad-eyed, and ups this to worshipping her like a god. Ra’s asks for his hand back. Barbara says he promised – and Ra’s says that he’s made a huge mistake. Barbara says he should tell that to her – gesturing to portrait woman.
Her? You think that is you? She was just a whore. I killed her out of pity
Barbara desperately says he’s lying, and that this is her destiny. Ra’s asks her why, then, she has been unable to unlock the secrets?
You sad, deluded woman. You thought you were a reincarnated queen – but, in truth, you’re just an unstable nightclub owner whose greatest accomplishment in life is the murder of your own parents. You are nothing.
Wow, Ra’s. Why not just call out the upsetting nude lipstick habit and badly tailored trousers too?
Ra’s says to give him the Head back or he will kill her and take it by force. The brawl a bit – and Babs is knocked to the floor. Her assistants show up, though – and usher her away, one of them killed in the process. Out in the street – Bruce’s car pulls up and Tabitha tells her to get in. They speed off, with Bruce watching Ra’s in the rear view mirror
(An aside. I knew a very posh person whose aunt – a older lady – referred to it as the ‘rear-view looking glass’)
We open on a tin full of cockroaches. There’s some kind of eating contest going on at Cherry’s. It’s really hard to stay on-board with Lee’s devotion to them when we see stuff like this.
Jim enters, and looks fastidiously appalled by everything. He asks for Lee Thompkins, before clarifying The Doc. It’s a pre-emptive nod to what we’ll see in this scene - the fact that Jim doesn’t really know who Lee is now.
Lee looks over as he approaches
Jim. You don’t look like a guy that got shot four times
Jim offers a small smile
Because you were able to keep me alive - thanks
She smiles, acknowledging his thanks, and adds
I had just shot Sofia Falcone in the head. I was in a good mood
She seems light and happy at the recollection of this.
Jim doesn’t like that, and loses his smile, looking at her like he’s reassessing.
Jim says he's looking for Ed – that five banks have been robbed, and it looks like him. Lee says she hasn't seen him in weeks. Jim says he knows she feels loyalty to him, but that she of all people should know that he's sick - a psychopath. She replies,
We all have our flaws
it's a quick and glib repsonse - but it's genuinely both defensive of herself and protective of Ed, I think.
Jim sighs, frustrated.
Lee - I understand why you're here, but there are other ways of finding absolution. You can't take ownership of everyone’s problems.
Lee says that in the Narrows no one owns anything except the landlords, and if he really wants to catch crooks, then he should go after the rich making money off the backs of the poor.
Realisation dawns on Jim’s face.
Like Gotham Savings and Loan
Lee avoids eye contact. He continues.
There were no guards killed – that doesn’t feel like just Ed alone
She tersely dismisses him, but he stays a moment longer
Whatever’s happened - you can always call me. I'll help.
She eyes him irritatedly
You don't get it, do you Jim?
Jim frowns
She says, without much sincerity, that it was good to see him, and gestures vaguely at nearby muscle to encourage him to leave – which he does. After he’s gone, her mood looks considerably more sour.
(An aside. While Jim was able to figure out that Lee was likely working with Ed, I’m surprised by the extent to which they had no connection in this scene. Jim sees Lee’s need for absolution as her only motivation for being in the Narrows – but that’s not really the case. From what we’ve seen, she feels at home there. She feels powerful and needed there. On top of that, with her new (or newly admitted) taste for violence and crime – she feels like she fits in. She likes the place.
He’s also failing to recognise the impact of her attempted murder of Sofia. Lee took part in the planning of it, carried it out, and enjoys remembering it. This was the first time we saw him try to integrate those actions into the woman he knew – and he finds it difficult.
In short, Jim sees the woman he used to know. Having this scene, I suppose, was to contrast this with Ed and Lee’s new connection, which is presented to us as very tied up in their ability to see and accept all facets of each other.)
Wayne Manor, where Barbara is yelling at Tabitha for Ra’s murder attempt. They squabble – with Tabitha saying she could have handed it over, but Barbara refusing. Barbara says Tabitha betrayed her. Tabitha says she was only trying to save her from herself, and raises the small matter of the beating Barbara ordered – which Barbara characterises as only a spanking.
Selina loses her temper, channels the audience, and tells them to shut up. Alfred adds that they're wasting time - Ra's could be on way. Tabitha starts to squabble again. Barbara says Ra’s can be killed – Bruce did it before. Alfred points out that they had a special knife – but that was returned to the embassy.
Barbara says they can rob the embassy. Bruce pipes up and says he has to kill Ra’s – it’s part of the ritual. Neither Selina nor Alfred is happy, but Bruce says it’s the only way.
Barbara pettishly responds with

Alfred asks what happens if she fails, and another argument breaks out. Selina looks troubled
Alfred says there’s another option, but they have to guarantee not to stab them in the back again. Tabitha smiles, Barbara frowns peevishly.
At the embassy, Alfred and Tabitha put on a little show – insisting that he wants the knife back. The man at the embassy says it was a looted antiquity, but Alfred persists, with Tabitha playing the part of his spoiled girlfriend.
The official loses his temper, and tries to order Alfred and his ‘chippie’ out. Alfred fakes a heart attack, and knocks over a vase as he falls – triggering the alarm. In all the commotion, Selina abseils in unnoticed and steals the dagger, grinning all the while.
That done, Tabitha slaps Alfred to bring him round – him sarcastically responding that he feels much better now.
They leave.
A be-hatted Ed strides into a room, the echo of Oswald’s comment about Lee stringing along this troubled man playing in his head.
We see a mirror which now contains goodish Ed, seeing that Riddler is in charge. He comments that
Just because you're in charge doesn't mean I disappear
Non-mirror Ed spits that he lost, but mirror Ed is unruffled. He repeats what he said earlier
Lee - what am I to you?
And grins widely, asking non-mirror Ed if that sounds like him. He tells him that he’s inside him, like a virus – infecting his thoughts.
Non-mirror Ed condescends to himself, and says mirror Ed couldn't comprehend his thoughts. Mirror Ed smiles.
How about feelings? What about the desperate attempts to get her approval?
Non-mirror Ed splutters and denies this, but mirror Ed laughs and points out that he gave money to the poor. Non-mirror Ed says this was part of a larger plan – but Ed points out that plan is Lee’s – he’s never cared about the Narrows. Non-mirror Ed says the Narrows’ residents could drown in a stew of their own filth and he wouldn’t lose wink of sleep
Mirror-Ed nods.
I know - because all you care about is her, just like I did. Soon there’ll be no telling where you end and I begin.
A door opens elsewhere in the room and the reflection disappears. Non-mirror Ed stares grimly.
That's not going to happen.
In a random warehouse, Barbara snottily demands the knife from Selina now that the robbery as been carried out. I know the show likes to imply that Oswald is the worst boss ever, but Barbara takes the cake, to be honest.
Selina looks troubled, and Bruce remonstrates. Barbara insists, though – telling him not to make her angry. Tabitha and Alfred face off. Alfred tells Selina not to give them the knife. Barbara loses patience and pulls a gun on Alfred.
Selina steps back, wide-eyed, holding the knife to her. It’s a deliberately childish defensive move. Selina is so desperate for family and has found it with these people. When she’s with them – she’s usually relaxed, letting her defences down. As such, we see that her response to their conflict is that of a child who just wants them to stop fighting.
Selina tells them to stop – and hands over the knife. She has little option, with Barbara pointing a gun at Alfred. She looks torn and reluctant, while Bruce looks hurt. Selina, Tabitha and Barbara escape, with Barbara throwing back an obnoxious nice doing business with you, and leave Alfred and Bruce standing.
Ed is at Oswald’s. Butch and Oswald are sitting in front of the fire, while Ed stands in front of them.
You're right, she's using me
Oswald throws up his hands.
Finally. So much for you being smart now
Ed eyes him

Oswald doesn’t catch on that this might be a coded threat/gloat in advance from Ed, and impatiently offers a fine. Butch watches Oswald
(An aside. I’m endlessly amused that Butch is in a proper suit now. Oswald clearly wasn’t going to tolerate his weird monster cut suits.)
Oswald gestures – wanting to know why Ed came to him.
Ed says that the lovestruck moron Ed is floating on a dopamine river in the circuitry of Ed's brain, and he needs Oswald to help drown him for good. Oswald’s face is one giant eye-roll at Ed’s phrasing, but he asks for a half share of the money. Ed says that’s gone - distributed among the riff-raff. Ed says that he has a bigger plan, and tonight is the coup de grace
Oswald laughs and stands up, exclaiming,
I knew you were scheming something - that's why we were going to rob you afterwards!
Oh Oswald - you do make me laugh.
Ed smirks, and Oswald says he prefers this option. Butch says it better be enough to fix him, and reminds Oswald angrily about their deal. You know what, Butch, just push off with that. Team up with Oswald for the possibility of making cash - but stop trying to make him solely responsible for your cure. And if you want to be unpleasant - go be unpleasant to Tabitha, who ditched you; or Barbara, who killed you; or Ed, who used you.
Ed says the take will be 100 million, and pauses before adding.
Apiece
Oswald's eyes widen. Butch stares.
Ed points.
And you help me deal with Lee Thompkins
At Sirens, and the storyline for which I have limited patience continues.
Barbara thanks the head assassin for coming
She responds that they serve the Demon’s Head.
Barbara says she’ll do the flashlight hand, and stabby stab with the knife – and send Ra’s back to hell
Selina points out that her plan sucks, and asks how she expects to get the drop on a martial artist zombie. Irritated, Barbara tells KittyCat that she’s not hearing much faith from her. Selina says she’d hear more if she’s learned to use the Demon’s Head – and she’s going to get them killed.
Tabitha asks what her suggestions might be. Selina suggests backup from Bruce – but Tabitha says she just stole from them. Selina says that’s because she was told to. Tabitha tells her they’re strongest when together – in or out?
Selina says if it’s suicide by Ra's then she’s out – Barbara coldly tells her to go – and they watch her leave. After she’s gone, Barbara asks Tabitha what is she’s right – and she really is just a nightclub owner? Tabitha tells her she doesn’t want her to have the Demon’s Head, but they’ve been together – on and off – for three years, and she’s never seen her doubt herself. However she wants to play it, she’s in – but the moment she says she’s not worthy, she’ll jump ship.
Barbara smiles
Let's do this
She makes her hand glow to summon Ra’s. Is that necessary? Ra’s men aren’t already staking out her, you know, home and place of business?
(An aside. Tabitha’s thinking – that she’ll believe in Barbara as long as she believes in herself is nice and all in the context of their relationship, but it’s complicated by the fact that Selina is supposed to be part of their team now. When you factor in that Tabitha has taken on a protective/mentoring role to someone who is essentially still a child, then it doesn’t look so good. She’d risk endangering Selina just so long as Barbara’s feeling confident about herself?)
Wayne Manor – where Bruce is beginning what will be a long-standing habit of brooding about Selina in front of a roaring fire. Alfred tries to lighten his mood – saying that he won’t have to kill Ra’s, but Bruce tells him he can’t believe Selina turned on them. Alfred tries to brush this off, asying that at least they know where she stand – but Selina herself appears.
Alfred says she’s got a cheek coming here. Selina says she gave Barbara the knife because if there was a chance she could, that would be preferable to Bruce having to kill Ra’s again.
Alfred looks slightly mollified. Bruce says he would have done what he had to – but Selina says that would have meant a return to douchebag Bruce – so no thanks.
Alfred agrees – but Bruce is still sore, thanking her for the explanation, but telling her she sided with them – and needs to leave now.
Selina asks why it has to be about sides - they need to focus on Ra’s. Alfred backs her up. Selina tells Bruce that Tabitha and Barbara are going to get themselves killed, and she doesn’t want that to happen.
Jim is interviewing the woman in charge of Gotham Savings and Loan. He frowns at her, saying that there are easier banks to hit - why choose hers? She gets irritated by his tone, saying that he’s treating her like a criminal. Jim sneers, and suggests theirs good cause for that – citing lots of nefarious practices. She says they were cleared on all counts, but he retorts that they had good lawyers. She asks if he’s saying they deserved to robbed – but Harvey excuses them before Jim can screw the interview up any more.
Outside, Harvey asks what the hell he’s doing. Jim says she’s a bigger crook than whoever ripped her off.
Harvey is impatient
You mean Lee?
Harvey tells a defiant Jim that he knows what this is about – but if Lee is involved with Ed, they need to stop things before they go bad.
(An aside. It’s believable that Jim would have seized on what Lee said for three reasons. One – he loves a cause. Two – it’s a way to exonerate her of what she’s doing. Three – if he focuses on this, then he can try to ignore her response to recalling shooting Sofia.)
They go back into the interview room. The woman tells them that they moved all their assets to one completely secure location. She kind of deserves to be robbed for being so dumb.
At the completely secure location, we see guards getting tranquilliser darts fired into them. They collapse. Ed says that a pistol would have been more fun. Lee grins at him.
You indulge me
Lee says that breaking into the vault is the last detail. Ed says they have help from friends.
Lee turns, not best pleased about this.
Ed offers a riddle.

Oswald walks out
Betrayal. Hello Lee
Ed pulls a gun on her. Lee looks shocked. Ed tells her this isn’t a dart gun, so let’s go. Oswald’s jangly eastern European theme plays.
Back at Sirens. This is booooring. The two leagues file in and face each other. The lights flicker, and Ra’s appears. They should have done dry ice, too.
Ra's says he hopes Barbara reconsidered. Barbara says she’s been thinking about them and what they had when he was less dug-uppy. Barbara says she’ll give him what he wants if he acknowledges their connection, and admits the things he said were just mind games to make her lose her nerve.
Ra's is incredulous that Barbara wants him to tell her she's special. Barbara asks if that would be so hard. Ra’s says it isn’t, and - moreover – it’s true. She is special. He’s just sorry it had to come to this.
Barbara says she’s sorry too - but thanks him for saying that, and stabs him.
Nothing happens – and Ra’s lets out a sarcastic ouch before tossing Barbara through a glass panel.
She gets up and fights with him. She’s almost down and out when Bruce runs in and knocks Barbara’s down. One of the assassin says that this is Barbara’s fight. Which she promptly loses – getting stabbed through the heart.
Immediately, her hand flares up and we go back in time. This time, she deflects. Ra’s is impressed.
Well now – look at you.
One of the assassins helpfully points out that she’s mastered the Demon’s Head.
Barbara says she can see why Ra’s likes this. However, Ra’s grabs Tabitha and tells Barbara to hand it over or else.
Choose now!
Barbara stares
Tabby…. I can’t give this up
Ra’s cuts Tabitha’s throat.
Barbara starts to dry sob as she sees Tabitha bleed out on the floor. She’s immediately taken back, though. The Demon’s Hand is basically a really convenient save point.
This time – she acquiesces to Ra’s demand, just requesting that he doesn’t hurt Tabitha. Ra’s promptly shoves Tabitha away – and presses his hand to Barbara’s, taking back his power. He also tells her
Barbara Kean - you surprise me yet again. Maybe I wasn't mistaken in you after all
Ra’s then splutters a bit, and turns into handsome Ra’s again. Bruce steps forwards and tells him to give him the knife, and he will kill him again – but Ra’s has changed his mind
Today is not the day that I die
(An aside – I choose to take that as a Deep Space Nine reference, since it’s basically a play on the Klingon today is a good day to die.)
Ra’s breaks the knife in two. The lights go off and he disappears. The mood in the room is defused, and people slacken and shuffle out.
Back in the bank. Ed says this is what happens for Lee for taking advantage of him. Lee protests - he's wrong, she's not taking advantage. Ed gets mad at the use of the name Ed again.
Oswald passes and says the truck is almost full - time to go. Ed tells him to tell the ogre (did I hear that right? I’m guessing he’s insulting Butch, but was a bit confused for a moment – since we had a character with that name) to leave the property deeds, for the Narrows, as they’re worthless.
He says all this while still staring at Lee - which is now a pattern in these scenes. Lee looks hurt. Oswald leans in before walking past
And so ends the tale of the queen of the Narrows. G'bye Lee!
He laughs and walks away.
Watching him go, Ed puts his gun down the back of his trousers. As I said last week – I’m still confused about the logistics of this.
Lee frowns.
What are you doing?
Ed is putting something together, and asks her
How did that go again, that riddle?
He repeats it and Lee answers: betrayal

He throws the explosive thing he made into the vault towards Oswald and Butch, setting fire to the Narrows’ deeds.
Oswald spins. Butch runs to the door back into the bank, but the bars come down. He asks ed what he’s doing. Ed says he’s burning the Narrows property deeds. An impatient and enraged Oswald snaps to Butch that
He's proving his love by betraying us
Lee face lights up, and she smiles at Ed.
Butch says bars can't hold him – but Ed points out he won’t have time to get out. Ed tells Oswald that they’ve been through thick and thin, and he bears him no grudge – but if he comes against Lee, he comes against Ed. Couldn’t we have used ‘goes against’, there, writers? Because that sounded unfortunate.
Lee is still beaming at Ed, eyes sparkling. Butch says he'll dismember Ed. At least he’s not going to come against him.
Ed is contemptuous at his threat. He turns to Lee
Let’s go
Lee gives Oswald a smile and a little wave as she leaves.
Oswald yells that it won't make any difference. She's still using him. He is not the Riddler, but a fool. They’ve gone with the weird choice of having Oswald with a lot of spit in his mouth as he says that – which I can only imagine is to try and make Oswald seem physically repulsive.
Butch starts to bend the bars of the cell.
Up in the main bank, Lee asks Ed why he did it. Ed says needed Grundy to get into the vault, and Oswald was going to rob them anyway. He’ll keep an eye on the situation – Oswald will either get over it, or he won’t.
Lee concludes that he can’t think anymore that she’s using him. Ed says he knows that she is. Lee asks, then, why he betrayed his friends for her.
She steps forward, excited
Is this…. are you Ed?
He shakes his head
No – I’m me….
Lee steps in front of him as he turns.
…because Ed didn't understand you - didn't see how deeply you had changed. I do.
Lee swallows – eyes fairly rapt on him.
The Tetch virus woke up something deep inside you. You let it loose when shot Sofia
Lee's face lights up at this, and she looks – like she did after the gameshow – very turned on: eyes rolling back a little, jaw shifting.
He smiles at her.
And you love it.
He pauses
And I love it too. And I know that you don’t feel the same way about me, but you will. And when you do - I will be here.
They’re both staring at each other, animated – almost on a high from each other’s company. They're both pretty smitten, to be honest
Lee smiles at him.
Ed Nygma - you are a riddle
He smiles.
That’s the nicest thing someone's ever said to me
They hear sirens outside. Lee says that's Jim. Ed says that it can’t be – the alarm just went off, but Lee says he was already onto them. She adds that they’ll see the truck, and need to distract them.
Ed immediately turns to do this, gun raised
Done
But Lee says no
I can handle Jim Gordon. You take the money to the Narrows
You trust me?
She smiles. I do
She leans in and kisses him as she passes, and then tells him to go
Ed smiles and watches her leave before putting his hat back on.
(An aside. Hmmmm. That was a tricksy little scene, wasn’t it? The question is – how many betrayals did we see?
First up – we had Ed’s seeming betrayal of Lee. This would have tied in with the story he spun Oswald – betrayal as a means of killing the relationship. He wanted to see how Lee would react to the idea of him double-crossing her and figure out just exactly what he is to her: that would be consistent with his riddle about betrayal being a revealer, a lifter of masks – not just of the betrayer, but of the betrayed. If, when he pretended to betray her, she’d turned on him, insulting him, and telling him that she was just using him – then he would know that it was just that: he was simply being used, and that’s all. But she didn’t react in that way - she was hurt and shocked - so that assuaged some doubts on that front. He now knows that she does benefit from the relationship in terms of his criminal expertise, but she is also definitely emotionally involved.
Second and most straightforward – Ed broke the deal he had with Oswald. To be honest, I’m not sure I’d count this as a betrayal. Betrayal implies some deeper feeling. This arrangement was pretty transactional: Oswald wants a cut, Ed wanted help cutting ties with Lee. On top of that, their relationship here just didn’t seem deep enough for his actions to be classed as a betrayal – more like a business relationship with some amiability, some animosity.
It’s also worth remembering here, I think, that breaking this deal probably served another purpose, specifically for MirrorEd, who would likely want to teach Oswald a lesson about being used, after Oswald used him to secure his escape from Arkham. Ed begged him not to release Riddler, and he did it anyway. I can see him wanting revenge for that.
Third up – do we have a betrayal in waiting? Everything Ed did here, as Oswald pointed out, acted as a demonstration of his love for Lee. Was this entirely sincere? Or does this serve to make Lee feel more secure, nudging her feelings towards love – only for Ed to betray her later? It’s very hard to tell. I feel there was some ambiguity from Ed right at the end – his face was almost masked when he put his hat back on, and watching her leave without her looking round gives the sense that she’s unaware of something – that he knows something she doesn’t. All that said – CMS is a fantastic actor, and he might just be adding that little bit of ambiguity in there to create that tension.
Outside – where we have yelling.
GCPD! Nygma – we know you’re in there.
Lee walks out – slight trepidation on her face. Jim lowers his gun a fraction-, but raises it again.
Harvey is wide-eyed.
Sweet merciful mother
Jim approaches. There’s not much of a hint of softness on his face, to be honest, as he says you know your rights. Lee looks over at Harvey. As she is handcuffed, she looks back, and we see again some fear on her face.
Back at Sirens, where a disconsolate Barbara is cleaning up. Tabitha approaches and smiles at her. Barbara tells her,
You'd have done the same for me
They look fondly at each other, but are interrupted by the entrance of the assassins who were loyal to Barbara. They tell her that they have discussed things, and she fought for those alongside her
You are worthy, Barbara Kean. We follow you - to death and beyond.
(An aside. I suppose pointing out that Barbara’s first instinct was to allow Tabitha to be killed would be churlish. What happens in a Demon’s Head-induced temporal anomaly stays in a Demon’s Head-induced temporal anomaly, I guess.)
Wayne Manor, Bruce and Selina are talking about Ra’s. Bruce is still is mission mood. Selina tells him that Gotham managed a long time without him – he can have one night off. Bruce gazes at her, and she adds.
You did good today
So did you
They lean in, about to kiss, when they hear a cough.

Ra's asks to talk to Bruce alone, but Selina says she’s staying. Ra’s gives an avuncular very well. He goes on to say that she’s right – he likes Bruce. On top of that, he knows what he could become. He also felt he owed him an explanation about why he chose to live.
Ra’s says he saw a vision – a cataclysmic event is soon to befall the city, a cleansing fire that will destroy and purify. Ra’s will also use it as a forge to mould Bruce into a dark knight of Gotham.
As he speaks, we see his vision of the city on fire.
If it doesn't kill you, that is.
General Observations
Choose now!
All about sides and allegiances this week. Ed feared that Lee was only using him for his criminal skills, and staged a betrayal to make her reveal her true feelings, and then a second betrayal to prove his love for her. For her part, she refused to turn on him, and then demonstrated her loyalty be taking the fall and trusting him with the Narrows cash. There’s the possibility of future betrayal, but for the time being – Ed chose Lee, and Lee chose Ed.
Tabitha and Barbara has a similar story. Barbara framed Tabitha summoning helping in the summoning of Ra’s as a betrayal, but Tabitha sees it was saving her. Later, Barbara gets the chance to see what betraying Tabitha would feel like (although she’s tried to kill her before) – and opts instead to side with her and give up the Demon’s Head.
Selina is pulled in two different directions this week. She chooses different sides at different times – but brings them back together by rejecting the notion of sides altogether. To Selina, who has been desperate for family and connection for a long time, the notion of being forced to shut people out of her life in favour of others is mystifying.
To a lesser extent, Jim demonstrates his commitment to his job over his past with Lee – he can’t look past her actions.
Jim. By and large, Jim stays on his sympathetic track this week. He tries to offer an ear to Lee, which she rejects. Even so – he tries to follow up what she said about corrupt powers taking advantage of the poor – but he ultimately can’t ignore what she’s been doing, and arrests her.
Bruce. We see that Bruce – who had such difficulty killing Ra’s before, seems much more able to do so this time. His story this week was really more about his connection with Selina, and how important that is to him.
Ed was a major player this week. It seems, eventually, that it’s not just that ‘good’ Ed is ‘infecting’ him with feelings for Lee. His Riddler persona is also taken with her – recognising and embracing her darker side. It’s hard to say where he’ll go next. It seems that he’s in love with her, but there’s still the option for betrayal, should things change.
Lee’s story was all about her new self, and how she’s perceived. We see her troubled twice in the episode – when Jim and Oswald remind her that Ed is, in fact, vulnerable (Oswald going on to accuse her of stringing him along). I don’t think she doesn’t care for him – in fact, she seems completely caught up in him – but she knows he’s more sure about the depth of his feeling. She’s also enjoying the pragmatic benefits of their relationship, and apparently feels guilty about both of those things.
As such, when Ed tells her at the end that he knows she doesn’t feel the same right now – but doesn’t judge her for it, or reject her – you see a weight lifted off her shoulders. He acknowledges, in the same scene, that she enjoyed killing Sofia, and her eyes light up. Ed sees her.
She’s pretty much nailed her colours to the mast inn terms of her loyalties, but it remains to be seen where everything will go.
Oswald was really only here this week to facilitate Lee and Ed’s story. He’s been one of Ed’s ally’s in the past – so was a suitable means by which Ed could demonstrate his feelings for Lee. Plot-wise, the ramifications are that he might well want revenge on Ed for stitching him, and on Lee for laughing at him – but that’s pretty much it, I would imagine.
We also had two reminders of that bargain between him and Butch: once in the ‘previously’, and again when Ed visits them. To be honest, I don’t have much patience for this plot point, and feel they’re hanging a lot on it. Oswald told Butch his best shot was Hugo Strange – he didn’t personally guarantee he would cure him. On top of that, Butch knows he can make a ton of cash fighting at places like Cherry’s – why doesn’t he start accumulate money himself that way? If he hates Oswald just that much, then why doesn’t he go it alone instead of hanging around and threatening him?
I’m guessing that this ‘promise’ plot will go south – because they keep reminding us of it. Either Butch is going to decide Oswald didn’t help enough, and screw him over – or Oswald is going to screw Butch over. Being wildly partisan when it comes to Oswald – I just hope that Oswald doesn’t suffer as a result of what, to be honest, is a pretty contrived plot point.

The city on fire is obviously a call back to Jerome’s remark last week. It could also be referencing Fish telling Oswald to burn the city down if he couldn’t make it his – but I’m not sure if I’m supposed to remember that.

Meihem Secret Santa 2017 – FAQ
Dear visitors,
welcome to the Meihem Secret Santa blog!
Earlier on this year, a few of us have organized a Meihem Secret Valentine Gift Exchange.
We’re still overjoyed that the event made so many people happy, was the origin of so many wonderful creative content results, and even had some people state that they hope that more events like this can happen!
So, without further ado, this Meihem Secret Santa blog is now open, for this and hopefully for more years to come:
1.) What is this about?
The Meihem Secret Santa is a creative gift exchange from Meihem fans for Meihem fans! Everyone who applies will be gifted by another participant by surprise that will make one of their holiday meihem wishes come true!
2.) What kind of gifts are those?
All gifts are based on the OW ship Meihem – The wishes for your gift can be Christmas/Holidays/Winter related, but they do not necessarily have to be!
Those gifts could be fanart, fanfiction, edits…It could be even something entirely different (animations, videos, craftings, and much more!) that we did not think of, yet! Anything you could offer as a nice gift is most welcome!
3.) Sounds great! Where can I participate?
Our application form to fill out can be found RIGHT HERE!
4.) How long are the applications open?
Applications will be accepted from October 28th until November 28th!
5.) I would LOVE to participate, but I am afraid that I cannot make a gift myself :(…
Fear not! You can still participate! :D
We are well aware that some of our fellow meihem fans are great supporters, friends and shippers that love seeing new content, but unfortunately cannot create meihem content themselves…However, the main reason for such an event is to bring happiness and joy to the fans <3
Which is why content-creating participants can also volunteer as SUPER Secret Santas!
A SUPER Secret Santa is a person who not only volunteers to help out in case another participant can not finish their gift and has to drop out of the event for any kind of reason.
Furthermore, they also volunteer to make an extra effort in case someone applies who would like a gift, but cannot create a gift in return!
And due to the fact that such an extra effort is not taken for granted, SUPER Secret Santas are also allowed to finish the latter with more extra time beyond the set deadline (which you can find in a later question!)
The one keeping track of these activities and who volunteers to do something for people who wish for a SUPER Secret Santa gift is @uhrwerkschloss // @amuerion – so you certainly will get something from one volunteer artist and/or eventually from another volunteer of several! :D
6.) Is…NSFW content also okay as a gift?
That depends!
Whenever you fill out an application, you will see a text field where you can write down what you would like to receive, but also what you NOT would like to receive.
If the person you create a gift for should explicitly state that they are uncomfortable with nsfw-content as their gift, nsfw content is definitely off the list for possible gift content ideas.
That being said, each of the participants has the responsibility to be as specific as possible about their wishes and also about what they would not like to receive in contrast!
The better the description of your wishes, the easier it will be for your Secret Santa to make something that you’ll enjoy! :3
But if the person you create a gift for is fine with nsfw-material and explicitly wishes for it, why not?
For all our content creators, there is also a question in which you can state whether you are okay with creating nsfw content! That will make determining the Secret Santas for each other a lot easier, in terms nsfw wishes arise - and of course, all content on this blog, nsfw or not, will be tagged appropriately!
7.) How are the Secret Santas for every participant determined, anyways?
Whoever under the participants seems best suited to fulfil another participant’s wish will be chosen for said wish – that is all <3
8.) Are there any rules to keep in mind?
Just these few:
- Do not spoil the surprise to the person you create a gift for, before the Gift Submission Days, please! The secret in Secret Santa is there for a reason ;w;
- For fanart, digital as well as traditional art will be accepted! Whether you want to keep it in full colour, as an ink-centric piece, black and white, or even as a sketch collection/ doodle page – all these things are fine, as long as you put heart into what you create <3
- As for fanfiction, the length of your fanfiction greatly depends on the prompt you are given!
Smaller writing prompt ideas should have a range of 500-1000 words minimum, while larger writing prompt ideas should have a range of 1500-200 words minimum – these overall ranges are set to keep things fair for all the writers and people gifted by writers alike!
And YES, if you want to write far more than this minimum range for your idea, you are most welcome to do so!
Follow the idea and what comes to mind from your Secret Santa prompt and you’ll be fine with no pressure <3

9.) What are the most important deadlines to keep in mind?
Application Phase ENDS: November 28th
Secret Santa Prompts are SENT: Novemver 29th
Gift Submission Days are: from December 24th until December 28th (as long as you can finish your gift and submit it around those days, it is mighty fine!)
10.) How are the gifts posted?
Simply submit them on your blog and add the tag “meihemsecretsanta2017” so that we are able to find your gift and reblog it here!
You can also message us about your gift being done during Gift Submission Days!
11.) What if I finish my gift earlier, because I am NOT online during Gift Submission Days? :O
That is no problem! :D You can either 1.) Create a post draft on your Tumblr which will submit your gift around the gift submission days automatically OR 2.) contact @uhrwerkschloss about it so she can submit the gift on meihemsecretsanta for you during those days!
12.) I cannot finish my gift in time / I have to drop out of the event!
As soon as you are definitely sure that you cannot finish your gift in time or drop out of the event, please inform @uhrwerkschloss immediately!!
It is important to do this quickly and also the moment you are certain, so that SUPER Secret Santas can jump in and finish the gift, instead!

It's rather amusing that you claim to want dialogue yet you either call us offensive things yourself, or you engage with posts calling us offensive things. What kind of dialogue do you really expect on those grounds I wonder. Call it what it is, what you want is clout, not dialogue... well, matters naught. And investing all that time writing so much just to say nothing, makes me wonder if you people really even find joy in anything. Aside from trying to pretend you're better than others that is.

So I actually got a few other asks waiting for a response from me, but I'm gonna be kind and let you skip ahead this once.
You have clearly already made up your mind that you got me all figured out. But allow me to try and change it, won't you?
So first thing's first, I went back and read over my most recent 5 or 6 blogs BEFORE you sent me this and tried to find these so-called offensive remarks you're referring to. Instead I found the latter- feel free to look them over again yourself if you doubt me! Here's some direct quotes from them that I would like to share with you:
"We shall see, nonnie! Whatever happens, I hope we're both satisfied. Take care of yourself. ✌" ~my geuninely nice reply to an anon ask from who I'm assuming is a Sessrin shipper
"If I were a Sessrin shipper, I'd probably jump to a similar if not the same conclusion ngl. It would be hard not to 'read between the lines' and take these small potential clues as proof, but fans must be wary. I totally get the temptation, alright, but wishful thinking may be getting the best of us if we allow ourselves to mistake potential fanbait for legitimate assurance something will guaranteed happen." ~Here I'm relating to Sessrin shippers and finding common ground. You could say that I'm even trying to look out for them.
"It can be disappointing when we allow ourselves to get our hopes up high, but it happens all the same. The baiting/trolling stops for no one, ha! Of course I'm directing this at all Inuyasha fans, not only Sessrin fans. Gods know I've been guilty of being let down, I just pray this time ain't one of them. 😉" ~I'm showing how it isn't just Sessrin shippers who are capable of being wrong, we all are.
"It would be hypocritical in many ways, yes, but at the same time many Sessrin shippers say they would never condone acts like child grooming and the such in real life. I really believe them for the most part, too." ~I defend Sessrin shippers by stating that I truly believe the vast majority of them are against real life child grooming if they say they are.
So please tell me, when have I ever been offensive? I can't control it if you're offended or triggered by things I say, just as I cannot blame pro-Sessrin posts for getting the same reaction out of me. The difference here is that I have never been downright ugly and disrespectful towards Sessrin shippers. Not once! Don't believe me? Then maybe you'll listen to a fellow shipper- read this!
Although I try my utmost to refrain from name-calling, I can admit that there are times I get a little snarky or snippy in my blogs. Hey, I won't pretend that I'm by any means perfect, but nowhere in any of my own blogs have I put any of you Sessrin fans down as people. It's your attitude I put down, not your opinions. You have a right to your opinions, and I have not on one occasion said you didn't. This may not apply to all of you shippers, but it applies to enough of you.
Time and time again I have told you all that I would love to participate in healthy discourse with you, but what do y'all do? Most of you who have decided to interact either come onto my blogs and make rude condescending remarks OR you just flag my blogs when I've kindly asked countless times to please keep them in the tags. There's never been anything inflammatory about them. So forgive me if I'm a little confused by your ask as nothing that I've addressed so far is really adding up to what you're saying.
If I like or comment on other anti-sessrin blogs that you find offensive, that's really not my issue. What the real offense here should be is Sessrin shippers posting fan art of Sesshomaru with young Rin and then tagging it under Sessrin. Pardon me if I'm disgusted by pedophilia and want to express it, and sorry to break it to you but that's a totally healthy reaction. What you guys need to do is post fan art with adult Rin and then we should be good. I thought older Rin was who you shipped Sesshomaru with anyhow, so maybe the art you post from now on should reflect that and only that for a change.
Last but not least, it's okay if you want to send an anon ask, nonnie, but how do you expect me to prove that I mean what I say if you don't come out and legitimately engage in real discourse with me? This isn't a very effective way to have a proper discussion, pro to anti, if you ask me. It's different when I get them from other antis, but it's always been you guys whose attention I most wanted to grab and whose interaction I most craved. Talking in this manner will achieve close to nothing, and I'm also not sure why you'd make assumptions about me when you have yet (as far as I'm aware) to interact.
Put your money where your mouth is and comment on a blog of mine and let's have that dialogue someday. That's not so much a challenge as it is an invitation, but take it however you want. Let me prove to you that my blogs aren't just clout as you say, since I already have with others before you and will surely for others after. I've encountered and dealt with my fair share of nasty shippers on your side- just calling it how it is- but never once did I insult them or mock them. At the top of my head, I can already think of four Sessrin shippers who have told me that they respect and appreciate the way I approach my blogs. Not to brag or anything, but I'm not sure there are a lot of other anti-sessrin blogs out there that could boast the same. I assure you that's exactly how I'd treat you too, just as long as you show me the same courtesy.
