PERFUME

rafe cameron x reader summary: all that's left from the person rafe loved is the traces of her perfume. a/n: not sure where this one came from. masterlist | tag list

rafe walked into the biggest mistake of his life with his hands in his pockets, the cap backwards on his head, and a cigarette lolling in the corner of his mouth. the words rolled off his tongue with as much ease as all the lies before them, and he didn't watch her fall apart -- he just turned his back to her and walked away.

he always walked away.

but now, his head is in a haze when his eyes open in the mornings, and his hands still reach for the shape of her. he's washed his pillows more times than he can count, but he can still smell her perfume. her hairs wedged themselves between the stitches of his couch, of his rug, of his sweaters.

bits and pieces of her, collected of the years, remain. no matter how hard he tries. it all remains.

but not her.

rafe fucked that one up.

he watches her, instead, from a distance. never close. never near enough to hear her voice, to smell that perfume again. he doesn't need to. it's still everywhere he goes. her body is still a familiar shape under his palm, and her name is written on his walls.

she's all he sees when he closes his eyes. she's all he hears when he's strung out on coke and his heart aches for the one thing he'd given up.

she's moved on, though. she holds the hands of this boy and that boy, she laughs and smiles and rafe catches only glimpses of her, but they're enough. she's in a better place.

without him.

while he wakes up every morning, and washes the sheets, and airs the room, but none of it matters. at the end of the day, he'll still spray the perfume on the pillow that used to be hers, and for a moment, pretend that he's not all alone.

one day, he'll run out of the perfume.

one day, she'll be gone forever.

but not now.

not tonight.

rafe sprays the perfume, finishes the beer, and lies down. closes his eyes. pictures her next to him, looking at him with those eyes glazed with love, like she once used to.

and he smiles.

I do find it interesting that people are very interested in the idea of Ganondorf being morally gray when it comes to his probable conflicts of interest (wanting sovereignty for his lands, having some form of respect for his people and culture, and despising the imperialism Hyrule imposes upon him while also harboring an inherent desire for power and conquest and thinking he'd be better at the whole ruling Hyrule thing) but bristle when Link and Zelda are described as morally gray. It is almost as if moral grayness is associated with a character's baseline morality being based in evil. A character who aligns with good cannot have any gray spots I suppose.

the amazing showstopping life-changing beautiful lovely and talented @alcego tagged me in the writing game where you post all your first sentences from already posted fics (and also the just as amazing showstopping life changing beautiful lovely AND talented roisin, thank you!) but i don't really care much for those lately so here's the first lines of several WIPs at the moment as a compromise :)

Kevin knows he’s being watched. (with @knickknacksandallthat <3)

“Riko? Are you awake?”

In the morning when Jean is supposed to be sent to his death, he takes five minutes out of his schedule to braid Kevin’s hair. (with @jaywalkers :)<3)

Acknowledging that Nesta and Elain at their worst in the beginning of acotar were little more than props so that there’s no room for the reader to question Feyre’s part in the story can also exist with acknowledging that sisters in fact do fight and talk shit all the time. One is a known confirmed fact from the author herself and the other is a known fact by like almost every person that has siblings.

And no one can @ me with ‘the sisters where abusive’ when sjm very clearly picks and chooses what constitutes abuse and what doesn’t with little to no research on the matter which is pretty obvious in the way everyone can see the injustice done at her hand to very specific characters that have done little to almost nothing wrong but never touch on the matter of other specific characters she has explicitly stated she loves 🤷🏻‍♀️

thinking about ninjago s6,,, specifically nadakhan and his relationship with his crew.

i just think it’s so interesting and also think it’s bull crap that he never cared for nor wanted them. first of all, jay was also under the assumption that he didn’t actually care about delara which he very obviously does, as we can see in ep10. and jay was also just trying to escape and was using any advantage he had—his voice was his biggest advantage at the time. but it was around the time jay came to the conclusion that nadakhan didn’t care about delara when he told flintlocke that nadakhan was just using him…

see, in ep2 after retrieving the realm crystal, nadakhan spends the night having fun with his crew and they all seem genuinely happy to be there! clancee himself states multiple times that he has no reason to wish for anything and that he best fits in with and feels welcomed with the crew. they’re singing and dancing and having fun… and when nadakhan says he’s going home, he invites them all with. he had every intention of bringing them with him not as servants or underlings but friends…

i can’t help but wonder what would have been different had delara not been dead. had the cursed realm not been destroyed, thus destroying djinjago in response.

because the thing is: it’s after he gets the sword and swears revenge when nadakhan begins hiding things from his crew. it’s then when he becomes more and more desperate. the further the season goes, the more jay pisses him off and thwarts him, the angrier and more desperate he becomes. you could call it a corruption of power, the things we do / give up for love, or even recklessness due to strong emotions.

when it comes to the crew’s betrayals, i really think jay planting the seed is what did it. flintlocke was already upset that nadakhan wasn’t sharing plans with him

clancee and dogshank are the ones hard to believe

nadakhan would’ve kept his crew around had the desperation not grown as terribly as audrey two and consumed him, had clancee not whispered to jay where the venom was. i honestly believe jay thought he was speaking the truth. if s6 emphasizes anything, it's that words are powerful. jay used his words to win in the end and to plant the seeds that eventually overtook and defeated nadakhan.

nadakhan seemed to have lost faith in his friends and that was his biggest downfall and that is what made him lose everything in the end. like yes, he's the villain and tbh i'm glad jay and the ninja won, but gosh if it doesn't just break my heart as i watch him slowly lose faith in his friends/team throughout s6 and how they probably wouldn't have even become proper villains had delara not died,,,
