random headcanons #5 - soap
everyones favourite scotsman, john "soap" mactavish
soaps music taste is so weird, one day you could hear him listening to something from ac/dc and then the next day you here some pop song, then he goes to the complete opposite and plays something from c418 {totally not because i was listening to these while writing this headcanon}.
john loves naps. its just so nice when he gets to have a nap after a long hard day, but he would nap anywhere. on the floor, bed, couch, even in a car or helicopter. just wherever he can, just dont fall victim to him, when he falls asleep on you, he's like a cat. you cannot move.
mactavish loves called you nicknames/petnames {with consent ofc}, you both even have some inside jokes that everyone around you just doesn't get no matter how many times you both try to explain it. but either way you both enjoy each others company
honestly, the first time you met soap he was very cheerful and teasy. but first seeing him in battle it was as if that completely changed, he was more stoic and serious and authoritative. it had completely shocked you that he could be this professional. well he had to be, but what shocked you was the fact he could change just by snapping a finger.
after your first mission together, soap would point out a few mistakes you made, only if you'd let him, that is. but he wouldn't do it in front of everyone, he would wait till you're alone or not with as many people, then he would take you down to the shooting range to help with your firing and stances.
when outside of his work duties, john loves to head over to a little cafe, which used to be your favourite place but now it belongs to both of you as a favourite hangout spot. you'd see him there practically whenever he had any free time and wasn't sleeping. you both like hanging around the cafe because it has a nice calming environment.
continuing with the cafe topic, the first time both of you were there together, he bought you your favourite drink from there. you have been trying to pay him back for ages but he refused to take any money for it.

also context - my sleep playlist is the Minecraft, stardew valley, fez, and altos odyssey osts combined in one big 8 hour 48min playlist (i just checked, but that's really weird because i could have sworn it used to be 13 hours...) and Minecraft album beta is by far my favorite, which should explain the top artists and songs, and why i listened to c418 for over 300 hours this past year...
also i have no clue how I listened to Spotify for 18 hours on nov 6, because i worked that day? i believe i had a 6 hour shift which is really funny to me cause it means i listened to Spotify every minute i wasn't working lol
and i listen to my sleep playlist on shuffle when I'm not specifically listening to Minecraft album beta so the top songs are up to chance
also its crazy that i listened to more kayzo than fob this year, but i have so much for stardust on cd and i listened to that a ton, so i assume that's altering the stats (same thing with dreams ep, i primarily listened to the cd bc the sound quality is better in my car, so the stats are off)
comparing to last year, i had 65999 minutes versus 115066. that's like. almost double, holy shit
my top artist in 2022 was c418 (I've had the same sleep playlist for a few years) but i had 6781 minutes vs 18512 this year, which again, holy shit, i guess i got more sleep lol (in 2021, c418 was also my #1 artist, with 8639 minutes- i guess i just didn't sleep as much in 2022 lol) (the year before that was fall out boy, that was either the year i made the sleep playlist, or the year before, i can't remember)
i played 3449 songs in 2022 vs 3902 this year which is surprisingly not a huge difference given how much more i listened.
last year my #1 song was revived by derivakat, and pigstep was #3
in 2022 i listened to 1407 artists compared to 1777 this year
fuckin wild, can't wait to look at my 2023 top 100 and see my entire sleep playlist there lol

Dying Light, first scary game that I met on a friend's computer, soundtrack from menu was in my head for a long time.
And what a moment, get out from the shelter at night, knowing about the hunters was very unpleasant. We moved very carefully, tried to avoid any danger, and then everything turned into stealth….
A city plagued by contagion, with no big buildings, a city that not going to get any help…. Soundtrack picked up on all the drama and spun the emotions to a new level.

Saya no Uta / Song of Saya, Longest novel I've ever read… (yes it's short and?) a strange experience, but extremely repulsive and at the same time attractive visuals, old age and uniqueness of style… The soundtrack bouncing from aggressive, to the calmest of compositions, is exactly the frightening experience that was needed.

TheFatRat, and music pack from *sigh* Dota 2... Was chosen because he's my favorite musician, and it's his only work for video games…. Sad choice of course, and the best music pack in the game? I have a negative attitude towards competitive games, but Christian's work makes me happy and I've been waiting for every piece of his art since 2021. I'd like to see more of his music in video games

Katana Zero - The game features many musicians giving many different emotions, and only the Designer, Programmer, Scriptwriter in one person gave the best and most dramatic soundtrack in the whole game, wonderfully constructed scene, selected written soundtrack. I cried for the first time from a video game at that very moment. I will definitely wait for the DLC, but for now all that's left to play is fan works that try but fail to reach the level of the original.

Now, we're watching the entire forest at this point. Most people have gotten wind as to what's going on, and we're staring at the witch and she's sitting in her house and her like hand is shaking while her stupid frog jumps around and like she's been on to us since the beginning, and she's staring at her brewing stand like this and she has this look on her face like-ah- like she just got her thirty day chip from anger management. She's staring like this, and the fourth play fades out. It's dead quiet, and then, I don't know if you know this, but the song begins very subtly: "DONG!!!" and the empress goes, "God dammit" and pounds on the table, and bottles fly everywhere and it was fantastic."

Minecraft music is the best fucking thing my god
Like.. This post is specifically about me. If you prefer another OST that's fine I'm not saying yours is invalid but holy FUCK bro. Minecraft soundtrack just.. hits a part of my brain that nothing else can.
Is it because I've been playing it for about 10-11 years now?? Maybe. Is it because I've spent countless dollars on it including dropping 50$ on fucking CROCS???? Maybe. But something about the soundtrack is just.. it's pure bliss to me. Like, my ADHD?? Fucking gone. My brain unscrambles itself, even if it's just for a little bit, whenever a Minecraft song comes on.
Now there's C418, which of course I grew up with as he was the only artist really for the early soundtracks. But the new artists (I say new as if the Caves & Cliffs update isn't from like 2-3 years ago) are amazing too. An Ordinary Day literally carried my ass through my first year of college. Any time I'd have a mental breakdown or knew I was about to I just put it on and.. waited. Everything would be okay. During my senior year of high school or before my therapy Minecraft song was either of the 1.13 tracks that play specifically when you're underwater.
And Infinite Amethyst too, god such a good song. That one helped a lot too, especially when needing to nap.
I had a mental breakdown at work yesterday due to getting a horrific dinner rush I am not used to getting and everybody around me getting a bit pissy and our order screen just wouldn't clear up and we were running low on everything. I knew I was about to explode, so I tell the manager I need to use the bathroom and in there I just begin texting my parents. Besides their comfort, I put on the Minecraft soundtrack (starting with some Caves and Cliff shit of course) and like magic everything felt better. Everything felt nice and calm and happy. I don't know what causes it but fuck I am so happy I found music that works like this.
I use Minecraft music to help me focus on homework too, especially shit I don't want to do at all. Helps me focus when my meds can't, because ADHD be damned.
Nothing really shows how much a soundtrack can make you feel better than when you're naked in the shower crying your eyes out and you put on that song and just.. you feel better. Or you are about to have a breakdown and you need to just clear your head before your next class so you spend like twenty minutes just.. eyes closed drifting in your thoughts.. with that one song. Or struggling to focus on something you don't wanna do so you put on that one song. I am so happy for the existence of the Minecraft soundtrack and the way it's impacted me is beyond anything I can put into words. Sure, it gave me literal like years of bullying since I was 8 that never stopped until I was like 17, but it also gave me this music, and tons of friends I would've never met otherwise. It gave me creativity and a way to express it before I could figure out other ways. It just. It is so lovely.
