Vienna Blood (2019-) season 3 review (no spoilers)

🎬 Max Liebermann, a student of Sigmund Freud, helps Detective Rheinhardt in the investigation of a series of disturbing murders around the grand cafés and opera houses of 1900s Vienna.

📝 Yet another awesome season. This show is just brilliant, it's a bit like Sherlock Holmes, a bit period drama with some excellent mysteries. I loved season 3 just as much as the previous two. The show's production design is just amazing, they find incredible locations and create beautiful sets for this series. Definitely check it out. It's also not gory which I like.

Does anyone know if there will be a season 4?

So now I’ve watched all 9 episodes of Vienna Blood that exist so far, I have some thoughts.

1) I prefer the original Amelia actress.

2) Clara annoys me so much.

3) I love Conleth Hill as Max’s dad and, I have to say, the hair and the beard are really doing it for me. Silver fox indeed. He and Juergen as Oskar are both very attractive to me.

4) I really hope it gets renewed.

My favorite part about last night’s episode:

Max pulling his family into an elaborate entrapment scheme and the family dynamic in the operation being exactly like how you’d expect, if your parents and sib with no practical experience with “the seedy underbelly” of society had been drafted into the same: Giddy, chummy, always teetering on the edge of falling into the pit of amateurish obviousness.

The smashed-up parlour likely brought some jarred-back-to-reality, next day conversations.

Travels with Jonathan Harker, in pictures

If our good friend Jonathan Harker had sent us some photos along with his lovely email, here's what he might have included. All photos are as close to contemporary as I could find.

Left Munich at 8:35 P. M.:

arriving at Vienna early next morning:

Buda-Pesth seems a wonderful place, from the glimpse which I got of it from the train and the little I could walk through the streets:

We left in pretty good time, and came after nightfall to Klausenburgh:

All day long we seemed to dawdle through a country which was full of beauty of every kind. Sometimes we saw little towns or castles on the top of steep hills such as we see in old missals:

sometimes we ran by rivers and streams which seemed from the wide stony margin on each side of them to be subject to great floods:

The women looked pretty, except when you got near them, but they were very clumsy about the waist. They had all full white sleeves of some kind or other, and most of them had big belts with a lot of strips of something fluttering from them like the dresses in a ballet, but of course there were petticoats under them:

It was on the dark side of twilight when we got to Bistritz, which is a very interesting old place:

“was he actually interested in the play you wrote or not, you did not even care, as you saw the way his eyes formed such definite half moon shapes, smile so bright and wide, you’d never seen such beautiful sight. he laughed so loudly that it was echoing in the almost empty attic for way too long, as you kept on acting with your sisters, relentlessly and enthusiastically, staying in role even after you saw chenle, wiping his tears of laughter. you took it as a sign – he liked it, he enjoyed it, which was all you needed to be reassured: you did good. not only you, as the writer, but your sisters too, little actresses and primadonnas. chenle wanted to say something, he was keen on letting you know whatever was going through his mind, but he kept it to himself. maybe later, maybe on a different day – maybe when he gathers his courage to tell you he’s madly in love with you?”
