Fic Rec: Fan Edits/Vines as Players

I know that I haven’t posted a fic rec for a while (I work on a mega fic rec at the moment, but between school and exams I don’t have much time or energy). But I thought I would do something different right now. I don’t know if it would be the most entertaining or comfortable, however that’s the best I could manage with the limitation of this site.

In general I think that there are so many tallented people on this site, and I am a big fan of seeing what people come up with. When it comes to hockey edits I salute my hat every single time. You need to think about the perfect song, the footage to pick from, think of the nerative. So, in order to show my appriciation, and to tell you some of my too detaled thoughts about it, I present to you this fic rec.

I put a link to every one of the videos, but in order to put them all in this one long post I didn’t use reblog. I hope that you still enter the links and read what I had to say about them.

General

-When you touch me like this

What can I say, sometimes you just want to see players beating the shit out of each other while a romantic song is played in the background. Other than that, I love the disonance between the song and the vibe of it and the visual content. It crack me every time.

-Nhl as Vines

I just love how people have the time and energy to think about those sorts of compilations. There are a few good ones in here, but if I have to choose the highlight one it would be the TK/Nolan Patrick one.

This is just plain cute and fluffy. It got a number of pairs with cute moments with the song “mine” in the background.

This is a perfect edit. I think that the charachtarization is accurate.

I think that everyone loves nostalgia and in general we like to focus on the glamorous espects of our lives. We love the glory days and not the decline afterwards. So something about this song with those two just struck me inside so much. I lost the amount of times that I would just watch this video in loops. Plus, the fact that they are the last of a certain era of the team didn’t help.

Amazing, what’s not to like about it. Friends opening sequence, but with the Dallas Stars.

The edit is good. But also I had to put it here, because if you read the rest of the post you will see how she posted a primer of Claude Giroux. And when I mean a primer I mean a detailed book, including pictures. about each and every stage of his career. This is unreal with how much this is good an an awsome reading. I will recommend it to everyone who is listening.

It short but it’s literally what he did.

-You’re the last of the real ones

This song just capsulate perfectly how we as fans sees him and his departure from the team. Players are humans, but sometimes we as fans see them as so much more, and we see them as those unatainable. However, at the same time they help us with ours lives. And I just think that she did such a good job with this song, and how she poposefully picked the upbit parts with the happy footage of Claude. Because that’s what it’s was all about, and he loved this team, and gave it his all.

She mentioned it in her post, but also the fact that he was the last remaining peace of the old Flyers team, made him the last one. So with him gone, it’s literally not the same Flyers team anymore. And as a relatively new fan of the sport, recently is the faze where I need to deal with this phenomenon for the fist time.

And if the last vidoe showed the upbeat part of Claude Giroux, with this one she just hit me in the feeling. Claude went through the Flyers trading their captain, he’s been through the Flyers not knowing if they’d make a mistake to name him captain after what happend with Richards. But Claude showed them and to anyone who doubted him, how it was the right choice. And to see how it all just forgotten and they traded him regardless how he wanted to stay in this team for the rest of his career.

The lyrics that stood the most to me were “Who am I defending now?” because it showed perfectly how on one hand he capsulated this team and its image so much that when you think about the Philadelphia Flyers, you think about Claude Giroux. But on the other hand, now he no longer is part of the team. And the fact that he didn’t even have a cup to show for all those years, kind of put you on this inbetween place where you don’t know how to think about this team, this city that yo gave your life to it. That yo literally built your adult life in, and now you just need to leave and move on. Whether you want to or not.

-Don’t take the money

this one is also on the more upbeat videos, but I really like the verse with the “While we fight”. Beacuse it really shows the relathionship between Claude and management. Plus the song brings up the constant scale (that we as fans like to forger sometimes) between “This is the team, and this is how fun they are” to “Hockey is a besnuess and we need to look at the numbers, regardless of the player”.

-Nothing New

And if all the other Claude Giroux videos gave me feelings, this one is the one that made me ugly cry more times than I could count on.

This video is just amazing. It shows how the cycle is always reapiting itself, sometimes it’s abrupt and sometime it takes some time, but in the end it always repeats itself; It also show how as players grow old their place in the legue, in their team, gets questioned time and time again. Despite the fact that they could still be producing, or can have an integral part of the team. And especially when it came to Claude Giroux, it’s really showed how despite him wanting to stay, it didn’t matter. and the fact that the team as a whole had a meltdown didn’t matter, it was easy to blame it on the captain.

And on a more personal note. I didn’t heard this song before. And it wrecked me to hear it, especially the part about “How can a person know everything at 18, but nothing at 22?” I mentioned it on a different fic rec, but I enlisted to the army of my country when I was 18. And in highschool I was very optimistic about this and thought that I knew I it would go. But after I enlisted I found out it was nothing like I imagined it to be. So last year, as I literally was 22 and had to figure out my life after the worst 3 years of my llife, this song just hit me in the feelings. I know that you didn’t really sign up for this rambling, but I had to talk about it, because that’s why this edit have a special place in my heart. Because it’s not just the nerative and the emotional song that hit me.

This video is so good. It’s the perfect song. It got the right hype to it, but also when you think about it it shows how lighning and thunder are always together and you can’t have the one without the other. And I think she showed it really well at the video, especially with the line “I was lightning before the thunder”. I also love how she showed the fact that one of them came before the other, but in general how they came at the same time.

We enter the age of dragons with HBO's GAME OF THRONES prequel HOUSE OF THE DRAGON.

Instead of the blond toffs the Lannisters we're dealing with the other blond toffs the Targaryens.

In preparation HBO posted banners that represent the WB/Discovery offerings.

House Roy (SUCCESSION and House Wayne (Batman-verse, PENNYWORTH) all day, every day for me.

Other Houses includes FRIENDS, HARRY POTTER, VEEP, GOSSIP GIRL and SHARK WEEK.

Of course with this return to the world of "A Song of Ice and Fire" people's unhappiness with the ending of GOT is coming back to the fore. Even George R.R. Martin is (still) whinging about not being with the final seasons and how he wanted the show to run for 10 or 13 seasons but Dan Weiss and David Benioff wasn't interested in it.

I had minor quibbles with the final season but it in no way soured me on the overall show; and I don't have the burning hate for D&D as many people do, but GRRM really needs to give it a rest because he was supposed to have the books finished prior to the series ending. IIRC he was to have them completed by series 5 so why would D&D involve him more than they did (he was providing book notes/updates once the show eclipsed the books)? A few months ago he posted that he was struggling with a Brienne and Jamie chapter. That is the equivalent to a child pushing their food around on their plate when they're not hungry anymore. He has lost the passion for completing the books and I think it's because the show (for many) is the true canon. It's hard to want to finish when it seems someone else beat you to the punch.

I'll answer this one going by f!verse since that's the one where Aizen and Gin wind up together as a couple. Hell!verse and zombie!verse are much more ambiguous right now; just let them hold hands at least.

Honestly, Aizen loves Gin in every way he can. What is very important to note is that the man has emotional constipation and while I don't know yet at what point in the Caged Thread (yes I am giving it capitals it's important) that he'll say to Gin that he loves him? He will, eventually, say it. Of course, Gin's hurled out something in his (very justified) blow-up at Aizen that's going to see Aizen not saying it for a long time and that was only the first part of the Important Conversation that's been unlocked at last between them. But let's fast-forward to them living in the era past the Blood War, shall we? Aizen shows his love for Gin in all the small ways. Telling Gin that he loves him isn't entirely necessary but it will get easier for Aizen to say with time and, likely, he's probably going to tell him that at least once a day. It's something that Aizen enjoys saying, though he doesn't fully expect Gin to say it back to him. Yet for a man who's been well justified as a profound liar, it's something significant. I haven't decided yet if Aizen would ever have told Momo that he loves her, but I do know that he would probably say that he's fond of her while he's being a bastard.

But Aizen's way of showing love won't have changed that much before or after Muken.

He likes to show his love by sharing things; his food, his yukata, even the stealing of his kiseru. No one else would ever be allowed but he'll do that with Gin. They talk much more openly now by that point, since there's no need for them to have secrets any longer; it's improved their communication. And Aizen will tell Gin many things if he can. He's never going to be overwhelming in how he shows this love, unless he wants to get a little fancy (and Aizen can and does get fancy; he even enjoys getting fancy.) for some reason or another, like what could constitute their anniversary. Which I guess... would be, maybe, the day that Gin became a captain?

( @godkilller DO WE EVEN HAVE AN ANNIVERSARY FOR THEM? ) Anyways, it's in how supportive he is of Gin, in how protective he is. Aizen knows damn well that Gin is more than capable of taking care of himself -- he survived for two years in Las Noches with terrible wounds, after all, not to mention coming from the Rukongai -- but there is a desire in him to be protective of the younger man. Not a lot of people can stir up his emotions, so Gin's fairly unique in the place he holds in Aizen's world. That's something that will never change. I sincerely doubt anyone else could ever eclipse Gin's place. If it happens, then that'll be something wild and strange to behold, certainly.

Just as Aizen won't ever be overwhelming, he prefers to favor more subdued and even subtle displays of things. Things like putting plates of food down if he thinks Gin hasn't eaten enough or perhaps putting a blanket over his shoulders if he's dozed off. Hell, you could even say that his usual way of forcing medication into Gin (which went from him SITTING ON HIM WHEN GIN WAS A KID AFTER WRAPPING HIM IN A BLANKET TO GET THE MEDICATION INTO HIM--- to, well, medication kisses when Gin was much older because I am a slut for a good trope.) is also love. It's just usually accompanied by Gin's wailing and dramatics that Aizen's become used to.

Chances are everyone else also grew used to Gin's dramatics and learned to not take it seriously when those happened.

But either way, Aizen shows that he loves Gin in dozens of ways. They may not make sense to an outsider looking in at them but their dynamic is their own. No one understands him as well as this young prodigy he was allowed to influence, and no one else ever will.

Even in the f!verse, he really will not allow other people to get close to him for a long time. But it will happen; chances are that Aizen is going to try and offer some kind of friendship to Rangiku because she's important to Gin and, therefore, she will become important to Aizen. Give him enough time and it will grow, that list of people he cares about.

And, I think what it ultimately comes down to, is that Aizen will show Gin how he loves him, the ways that he loves him, by proving that he's not the same man he was before Deicide. It's a complicated question and this is the very complicated answer. Aizen will usually show, not tell; but give him enough time and he'll begin to tell it as well as show it.

There's an elaborate animatic that exists only in my head that uses Rule #9 - Child of the Stars by Fish in a Birdcage for the contrasting parent-child relationships in The Owl House:

"You were a wanderer Back when you were young I remember your eyes were clear Brighter than the sun With hands so soft Delicate and sweet You learned to fall And balance on your own two feet"

-This verse is so very suitable for Luz and Camila. If I knew how to make videos, I'd do a bunch of the episode 1 and flashback scenes here

"I could only lead you so far I believe in who you are"

-And here we can transfer into Luz moving outside Camila's reach into the Demon Realm, and her new relationship with Eda

"Take the world by storm Muster all your strength Embrace the forces that surround you Bend gravity and space"

-This bit is so clearly a Demon Realm verse. It could be about Luz, and also about King and Eda's relationship. But that last line is definitely a cue for the scene of The Collector interrupting the Eclipse and warping the Boiling Isles (I don't need to be subtle in my in-brain animatic)

"You are a child of the stars Shout what has been unsung Open all the doors around you Use the power in your lungs"

-The Collector is in full swing, without any of the guidance that the other young characters have from their role models. But the portal door opens, and King cries out

"I could only lead you so far I believe in who you are"

-The Hexsquad is flung back into the human realm, leaving Eda and King behind. Eda just has to trust that she taught the kids as best she could
