Respite, Veteran Combat Medic
Coming in from NoVA with assistive tech, Respite provides much needed healing and support that'll keep his teammates alive and fighting. There's no stopping a team or pushing through a defense aided by his high-power medical gear.
A new Valorant OC! And they're Vietnamese-American! Respite's a new healer and Sentinel. Although not quite as versatile as Sage, Respite's got good support utility and can very easily turn a battle around. Like how Chamber's a very aggressive Sentinel, Respite's a very supportive one.
abilities lore and more under the cut:
Callsign: Respite
Codename: Recovery
Real Name: Dr. Oliver Vinh-Quảng Võ
Role: Sentinel
The 41 year old Vietnamese-American Virginian is a doctor and veteran combat medic pulled into the Protocol. A very cynical and blunt man, he uses Radianite-powered gear to heal and assist his teammates. He studied to become a doctor and graduated med school, but decided to join the army as a combat medic after his army veteran father died. Doing so, he got hit with the reality of war and once he could leave, he left to continue his medical residency. He was then pulled back into the army after the First Light. After a few years, he left and continued his residency and then served as a doctor for a few years, before being recruited to the Valorant Protocol.
Timeline
2008: Oliver is born in Arlington, Virginia to a Vietnamese mother and a Viet-American father in the Army.
2012: Due to being in a military family, Oliver moves a lot starting from when he was 4, resulting in living a kind of friendless childhood. As a result, he immerses himself in learning.
2020: When Oliver is 12, while living in North Carolina, his father is injured badly while on deployment, resulting in him being discharged. Soon after, the family moves back to Arlington. From then on, Oliver decides to become a doctor to help injured and sick people, like his father. (fellow kids of asian immigrant families you just know his family really supported that decision lmao)
2026: Oliver graduates from high school, going to a prestigious college for Biology
2030: Oliver graduates from college, going to med school
2034: Oliver graduates from med school and begins his medical residence, however, soon after the graduation, lingering complications from his father’s injury leads to his death. This causes Oliver to think about his motivation to become a doctor. He originally wanted to become a doctor in order to help those like his dad, however with his dad’s death, he thinks that he should stop the injuries at the source, patching people up the moment they get injured or stopping the injury from ever happening. This, along with a desire to honor his dad’s memory, leads to Oliver joining the army, enlisting and becoming a combat medic.
2034-37: He goes through combat medic training, which is made slightly easier by his prior medical experience, however it proves much more intense, with its own new challenges. And soon, it gets more intense, as he gets deployed on real missions. He has to patch up his brothers in arms, treat civilians caught in battles, help people on deaths door. He realizes that being in the military wasn’t the single fight he thought it’d be, instead being a struggle on every side, and he has to face troubles up close due to his role as a medic. And when some of his comrades die, he realizes how lucky his father was to survive and live for so long. His life was taken too soon, but these lives were taken sooner.
2038-39: Oliver leaves the army and moves back to Arlington, continuing his residency and trying to live a normal life.
2039: First Light, Oliver is 31.
2040-43: Oliver is called back to action, as the army is trying to “collect” as much Radianite as possible. Back in his combat medic position, now Oliver has to deal with a new problem: Radianite poisoning. Those exposed to raw Radianite for too long got severely ill. He kept going, and treating the ill, but then it got too much. By now, Radianite tech had been incorporated into the fighting, and he has to deal with things he had never seen before. However, he sees what destruction the new tech could do, and figures that if Radianite could power war machines, it could fuel medicine the same way. Medical equipment could be pushed to its very limits with the new technology, and Oliver intends to push it. He takes a risk, using as much of the new technology as he can. Advanced first aid kits, communication, transportation, everything. And it works. He pioneers the use of the Radianite-powered equipment, and people follow his lead soon after. But even with the new equipment, trauma and destruction is still trauma and destruction, the likes of which he had never seen, and he would never forget.
2043: Oliver leaves the army again, jaded and disillusioned with the idea of helping people in combat. He never wants to run into a battlefield again.
2043-46: Oliver continues his residency, finishing in 2046.
2047-49: Oliver works as a doctor for 3 years.
2050: Oliver is known by some old colleagues of Brimstone, which leads to him searching Oliver out with a request: Join the Protocol and help fight against Omega Earth to defend this Earth's Radianite. After some convincing arguments on Brimstone's part, Oliver reluctantly accepts, joining the VP as its newest agent: Respite.
Abilities
Passive - Active Medic
"After healing or being healed, you are immune to being slowed by damage for a period of time."
For a short period of time after healing another or being healed, Respite becomes immune to being slowed down by damage. Slowing abilities and other crowd control methods can still slow him down while he's under the effects of Active Medic.
C - First Aid
"EQUIP a medical injector. FIRE while a teammate is in front of you to inject them, healing them after a brief wind-up. ALT-FIRE to inject yourself, healing yourself after a brief wind-up. Any excess healing is translated to 10 overhealth."
Respite equips a medical injector. Pressing the fire button while a teammate is on your crosshair and within a certain range will make Respite inject them. After a brief one-second wind-up, the injector will heal them for 55 HP. Any excess healing is converted into 10 overhealth. Pressing the alt-fire button will heal you instead. One second wind-up, 55 HP, any excess is converted into 10 overhealth. I'm imagining this to be similar to Apex's syringes, where activating it starts an animation, and once the animation's over, the healing kicks in immediately.
Q - Infirmary
"EQUIP a projector. FIRE to throw it. The projector creates a restorative zone upon hitting the ground. Any healing done to your teammates within the zone is increased. Bullets are blocked by the zone."
Respite throws out a projector that makes a bubble. The bubble blocks bullets, like Harbor's, but it's indestructible and see-through. Additionally, any healing done to yourself or teammates who are in the bubble is increased (By say, 10%).
E (Signature) - Extraction
"EQUIP a recovery watch. Having the watch equipped will deplete its charge. The watch can be equipped, unequipped, and reequipped until you run out of charge. While you have the watch equipped, teammates can INTERACT with their crosshair over you to teleport to your location."
Respite equips his recovery watch. While he has the watch equipped, teammates can look at him and press the interact button (like Cypher with his cages), which will teleport them to him. This ability works like Neon's run, where it has a charge meter. He can have it out, unequip it, re-equip it, and teleport teammates as long as he has charge, but when he runs out, the ability is done.
X (Ultimate) - Recovery Beacon
"EQUIP a recovery watch. FIRE to place a beacon. The beacon will send out pulses, healing yourself and any teammates within range. You and your teammates can INTERACT with the beacon to replenish ammo."
Respite equips his recovery watch. Pressing fire places a beacon that periodically sends out healing waves, healing yourself and any teammate within range and line of sight. Anyone on your team can also interact with the beacon to replenish your ammo. The beacon disappears after a period of time, but it's indestructible.
Extras
Respite's really good at making phở and bún bò Huế.
Don’t let this man near any other food though. He can’t even toast bread without burning it.
Respite respects Sage to a very high degree. Combat medic fellowship and all.
Respite brings a very different view to the whole “veteran pulled in to the Protocol” vibe that Brimstone has. For one, he’s a medic and not a commander, and two, he greatly dislikes leadership positions and military jobs due to his military experience as opposed to being drawn to them like Brimstone is.
Respite and Viper have a mutual respect because they’re both doctors. Fun!
Respite used to hate needles as a kid. Ironic.
Respite's got a bit of a smoking problem, and he drinks on occasion.
Respite finds the younger group to be a little too enthusiastic about this whole thing. He understands their dedication, but it reminds him of himself at their age, and he’s worried that they’ll end up like him.
Respite's very tired, if you couldn’t tell.
Respite's old callsign was Succor.

“they don’t want people to know that their daughter is a monster” 1) look who’s talking, and 2) literally what did she DOOOO that was so unforgivable, except be a teenage girl that was kinda insane over her comphet crush and have access to spells. i jst think, in this fantasy world, aurora rlly didn’t even… do… that much…. like, out of all the actions she did, she mostly jst kinda handed ppl tools and then it was out of her hands. jacks fucking traded his heart to her willingly (for a protection cuff that didn’t seem to do that much for the end of the story, anyway). i’m an aurora defender, because you guys see one (1) female character that’s not perfectly feminine and submissive and you start screaming

VALORANT OC WEEK 4: DAY 2
Prompt: Video Game Swap
Vexx gets put into Splatoon. He'd be an inkling who loves going fast, doing high damage up close. According to a friend who knows Splatoon much better than I, he'd wear the Lo-Vis Visor, the Forge Inkling Parka, and the Transom Note Boots. He's typically use rollers and brushes, with some slosher use as well.
Respite becomes a Stardew Valley farmer because goddamn it, he needs a break. He just takes his time, peacefully going through the day. He doesn't romance anyone he just vibes. If it was an actual playthrough he'd be the least optimized player ever and that's ok.
