The verdict
As always. Be prepared for unpopular opinions
A solid 8/10. It loses two points for an atrocious lack of Pugsley. And yes. I know it’s the Wednesday show. But Pugsley’s my favourite. So I’m biased
Mormez do have impeccable chemistry. But it’s framed through a different lens because it’s about Wednesday and not the family as a whole. So you don’t see it as much
Both Tyler and Xavier are solid love interests for Wednesday. Xavier is already acquainted with the Addams’s so he’s got that advantage. But Tyler is, well, a bit more her speed. (Read: a little twisted). So it’s a very close race so to speak.
I’ve seen more people bitch about Enid’s mother than Bianca’s mother. You know. The one trying to blackmail her daughter back into a cult.
I still say that conversion therapy’s the wrong terminology both in universe and out. Enid’s problem wasn’t religious based homophobia against her sexuality. It was belated puberty pure and simple. Also probably the cat obsession. In any case. I may not know the correct term for it but exactly. But conversion therapy is definitely the completely wrong terminology for it.
I don’t get the Wednesday and Enid pairing. Enid gives me too many Pugsley vibes for it to happen.
Gomez and Morticia are the parents Bianca needs and deserves. And I won’t hear any arguments to the contrary.
I hated weems. Granted 90% of my disdain for her is due to Randall Weems from recess. But my point still stands
Valerie was….interesting. But she crossed a line by trying to get Wednesday committed. So I didn’t shed a tear when she got mauled.
I need Pugsley to meet Xavier, Enid and Eugene. Especially Xavier and Eugene. They’d get on like a house on fire
Tyler. Was. Groomed. Just because he’s a Caucasian heterosexual male who supposedly “gets in the way” of your non canon lgbt pairing doesn’t give you carte blanche to throw away his very real trauma. In addition. I’m of half a mind that the whole enjoying it thing is just a fear adaptation to prevent him getting punished by the predatory psychopath colloquially known as Laurel
I like Enid x Ajax. They compliment each other well. And it also lends credence to my theory that Enid’s wolf problem was a puberty issue
I HATED the fact they gave Gomez and Morticia their own personal Snape’s. It’s the other 10% of why I hated weems. Because it definitely coloured her interactions with Wednesday.
I fucking despise Donovan. It was his shitty parenting that led to Laurel getting her claws on Tyler in the first place.
Fester was perfectly insane as always. The electrokinesis was just an added bonus
Thing’s almost death and Tyler’s backstory were the two most emotionally devastating parts of the show
I’m so freaking thankful it didn’t go down the riverdull or caos route.
Rowan was interesting. Nice subversion of the hunted bully victim Wednesday usually defends.
I definitely wanna know more about Vincent Thorpe
I don’t know who Wednesday’s stalker is. But I’m leaning towards Laurel. After all. We didn’t see her corpse did we? And if Tyler can come back, why can’t they bitch come back so he can kill her and free himself from her influence?
All in all a good show that, while not perfect, has definitely piqued my interest for a season two. I just hope they don’t end up screwing it all up.

Kinbott: How's your week going Tyler? Anything you'd like to share?
Tyler: Well...
Tyler: I saw this really cute girl at the coffee shop the other day, so naturally I've got my eye on her. I followed her to the counter and made sure I get to serve her coffee, and when she gave me her card, I memorized her name, even her card number. I googled her and went through my old man's stuff to find her criminal records, turns out she placed piranhas in a swimming pool, was expelled, and transferred to a nearby school here in Jericho, Vermont. Anyways, I went through her whole family tree and found out her dad's record as well. I gave it to her to convince her to stay, as well as leaving trails of dismembered body in the wounds that may suit her liking. And oh. I also killed her classmate just to make her experience here fun and worthy.
Kinbott: ...huh.... such a productive week for you then?
Tyler: Yup! So excited! I think she's the one.

This post is inspired by @romancedream, who makes really good points about psychic powers on this post: https://www.tumblr.com/romancedream/744561229253705728/so-psychic-abilities-it-is-strongly-hinted-in
I hope they explore Xavier’s and Wednesday’s psychic powers in S2, and the idea that their powers are unreliable.
I don’t see the visions as objective vs. subjective, more confirmed and unconfirmed to be psychic visions. Wednesday’s visions are confirmed visions because other people can conveniently confirm the visions are of the past (Goody and Pugsly). She also has future visions come to pass.
If she didn’t have Goody, Pugsly, or her parents to confirm her visions of the past and give context, then she’d have no clue what she was looking at or what any of it meant. If Weems had happened to take an alternate route to avoid the accident, then Wednesday wouldn’t have gotten confirmation of her vision of the grocer. Without that confirmation, could she have simply thought his broken neck was wishful thinking or an intrusive thought?
She also knows they’re for sure visions because they happen during waking hours. Unless she has PTSD, then there’s a clear delineation between a vision and reality. Not only does she mentally go somewhere else, she describes a feeling of electroshock. She has a physical manifestation of her powers.
I think Xavier is correct as psychic visions are unreliable in either situation, the unreliability comes from their limited POV, and both instances are subject to their interpretation of what they think they’re seeing and if they happen to have corroborative evidence.
He correctly points out the severe limits to their powers.
Regardless of if it’s a vision of the past, future, or a link to someone, each only has a) a few seconds of one moment in time and b) from their own POV. This is naturally limiting, because neither has any context in the moment of the vision, and they only get context once the vision has come to pass, or they have someone to further explain or confirm.
With Wednesday, she appears to be pre and post cognitive, she sees events of the past (Goody, Pugsly, Garret’s real cause of death, and Tyler attacking Kinbott) and future (death of the grocer and Rowan). Sometimes she has context, such as with the Pugsly’s bullies, other times she does not: the grocer who she sees gets a broken neck. She has no idea when this event will happen or what causes it. The same with Rowan’s death.
In both cases, the vision came to pass regardless of if she tried to prevent it or not.
We see she did absolutely nothing to warn the grocer, probably because he was rude and she didn’t know him. He died absent any intervention from her.
She did, however, try to save Rowan from his fate. She ran into the woods to warn him of the vision she had. But the question is, if she hadn’t followed Rowan into the woods and given Tyler a chance to turn into the Hyde, would Rowan still have died? Did she doom Rowan because she tried to save him? Because if she had stuck to her plan to run away, then Tyler would have driven her to the train station and possibly would have tried to kill her given what we know, but Rowan would have been left alone in the woods.
This is another aspect of unreliability, because there's no way to tell if their actions have any meaningful impact.
With Xavier, it is less confirmed because his visions happen in a dream, and we don’t know if he knows the monster in his dream is real, or if he’s just having a nightmare. This could be a new aspect of his powers that he is also just discovering. We also don’t know what his dreams consisted of. Is he seeing the monster attack its victims as they happened or before they happened, like Wednesday’s waking visions? Or is he simply seeing the monster in the dreamscape separate from anything that happened in reality? Does he see scattered images and have a nebulous feeling or vibe from the dream? Or are they like Wednesday’s where you’re more or less dropped into a scene and watch it play out? We as the audience are not given this information.
Yes, Xavier drew the monster because it was a reoccurring dream, but he also had a really bad run in with Tyler and Xavier expresses himself through art. With Kinbott as his therapist and who had shown herself to be dismissive of Outcast powers and utterly incompetent as an Outcast therapist, she herself could have convinced Xavier his dreams were just dreams. Visions might not have occurred to her at all. Xavier might not know psychics can have more than one ability. Perhaps he thought the monster was a manifestation of his fears and humiliation at the hands of Normies.
Also, if Xavier never witnesses the events in his dream or the images in real life, then he can’t compare them to his dream and realize they’re visions. We have no evidence that Xavier has had any other dream vision, nor that he has ever been confronted by one of his visions.
Xavier never comes face to face with the Hyde, does he ever find out the monster he drew is real?
I don’t want to say both of their vision powers are useless, but they definitely have a Cassandra’s Curse kind of flavor to them. lol
