Do you ever think about the huge, HUUGGEEE divide between Kabuto and his brother, Urushi? Not just in the physical sense but also in like, the metaphorical/experience sense, or is it just me?

Assuming Urushi is actually normal, which let's be honest, he's probably on the same level as Sakura's "normalcy", what the FUCK can Kabuto talk to Urushi about that doesn't feel like he's hiding something all the time??

Can't really talk about your fucky little Frankenstein experiments, your complicated relationship with your weird, snake pseudo mom after you killed the one you both share, and how do you tell your brother about your snake stomach? SNAKE. STOMACH. It has EYES and THOUGHTS and a NAME, Urushi. A name.

I just feel like they could only talk about the orphans they take care of for so long before someone starts eating the other...

It;s late and I;m very tired so this is all over the place lol! What are your thoughts or headcanons about whatever's going on with Kabuto's strange, silly life?

Something something one of them being able to achieve a normal life. Something something one of them being able to move past it. Something something the other being stuck there.

I don't know if they'd ever really be able to reconnect. Their life experiences are sooo different, so directly opposed. Urushi couldn't be blamed for finding him repulsive, who he's become, and even if he found it in him to find it worth it to reconnect, like you said... what is there to connect over?

It's grandpa hours

I wanted to practice dogs, so naturally I drew Kakashi and his pack.

Once again, I have no idea what anything other than Kakashi’s bed looks like so I put them all on my sofa. I have a corner sofa and Shiba is in my spot. I put them all in my living room autism nest lol (minus some squishmallows).

Orochimaru and Kabuto are so insane to me like. Their relationship isn't necessarily platonic, or romantic, or familial, but it's just so intimate. These are two people who are so enmeshed in one another.

Just the fact that Kabuto has spent hours caring for Orochimaru even when he feared and resented him. And how Orochimaru knows all of Kabuto's secrets, the kind he'd only tell Urushi in the dead of night after a nightmare.

Little moments where they had to help each other. Kabuto having to be Orochimaru's caretaker. Orochimaru offering Kabuto a reason to live and no matter how twisted and manipulative it was, it was a reason.

But most of all, Orochimaru referring to the hideout as their home. They have nowhere else to go. Their home is together.

Currently working on another fic about how Kakashi met his ninken :)

Will be around six chapters long and most likely people will cry (I'm doing it while writing), but I promise it'll be worth it! ❤️

Team Minato Week 2023: Day 7: Inappropriate Use Of Ninja Techniques / Babysitting

I'm offering you a tiny story that fits both prompts for Day 7 (kinda :D) The illustration is done by my dear @maireyart <3 (thank you again!) The editing and missed-commas-recovery by @professor-of-naruto (i appreciate it sm)

Tap-tap.

Obito raised his head from the book. He glanced at the window first. No, nothing there.

Tap-tap.

The scratchy noises were coming from the hall. “He taught them to knock, huh? Clever,” he thought, remembering the last time Kakashi’s ninken appeared in their apartment unannounced; the havoc, the awkwardness. Grinning, he carefully got up from his chair and tiptoed out of the room, making sure that his teammate was still fast asleep. The dogs made him uncomfortable. He always expected some snarky comments or criticism, even though he personally didn’t wrong them in any way. When he slid the bedroom door back behind him, three ninja dogs were standing in the dark hall with Pakkun, who had a scroll attached to his back.

“Is Boss inside?” asked Pakkun. “Oh. Hey… you guys!” Obito whispered with a smile trying to be friendly. “Could you be quiet? He’s sleeping and…”

“We have a message for him. Let us in, Bito!” said the little grey one with a smirk.

“It’s Obito, Shiba,” rumbled the biggest of the pack.

“I know that! But I bet Bito here can’t even remember our …” 

Obito didn’t let him finish. “Shhhhh! Guys, please, keep it down! He was released from the hospital, like, yesterday. He needs rest.” The dogs stopped bickering and lowered their heads. With a little more confidence Obito addressed Pakkun: 

“What’s the message?” The pug let him take the scroll while glancing at the bedroom door, worried. Obito briefly studied the insides of the scroll and then exhaled with relief “Oh, that. We booked this mission a while ago, for extra cash, y’know. It’s a piece of cake, I can go alone.”

To that the dogs rolled their eyes and made it look like Obito said something ridiculous.

“Oh, great, genius! Go alone!” growled Urushi, turning to leave.

“Yeah, thanks for ruining our day off, Bito!” joined Shiba. “Whose turn is it this time?”

“I say Bull should go. He’s never on Bito-sitting duty, that oversized softy!” replied Urushi as the three ninken headed outside.

“I don’t mind. Obito is nice.”

Obito had expected mockery, but their reaction confused him completely. “Huh? What are you guys saying?” But the ninken had all already left the hall except for Pakkun, who was standing behind Obito with his paw softly pressed against the bedroom door. He took a moment to think things over.

“Come on, kid,” he said in a reassuring tone. “Never have you ever gone on a solo mission alone; since your very first one. But you didn’t hear it from me.” He winked at Obito and followed his pack outside.

Dumbstruck, Obito was left alone with the open scroll in his hands. It didn’t take him long to puzzle things out. The realization hurt his pride at first (what kind of shinobi was he, if he’d never noticed the dogs tailing him!) But quickly the hurt was replaced by a very tender feeling growing in his chest and spreading warmth up to his cheeks. He cracked the bedroom door open and looked at the figure on the bed. Kakashi was sleeping peacefully wrapped in blankets with his nose tucked between the pillows. A couple of moments passed before Obito finally slid the door close, a warm smile never leaving his face.

Writing procrastination game!!!

1. What's the name of one of your Wips?

Loyalty's Price; Eternity, I have half a mind to name my next one something Fear and Hunger related.

2. Describe a Wip in the format of __+__=__

Uhhhh, I'll do a non-LP one since LP; Eternity is 1 chapter from being over. Modern AU+Genjutsu = a generally bad day.

3. What tags/warnings will one of your Wips need if you share it?

Usually violence and character death though I don't think any of them have been sad deaths so far.

As for tags.....Loyalty's Price; Reunion will have Urushi, so him?

4. Alternative title to a Wip?

God I wish. Loyalty's Price feels very generic. Uhhh, maybe "No Place Else you'd rather be" a line from Fences by Paramore. It has an irony I kind of like. Doesn't work well for subtitles though.

5. Which Wip are you most likely to update/finish next?

Loyalty's Price; Eternity. Editing the final chapter though it'll most likely be split in half.

6. What is one of your Wip's document title, not its name but what you have it saved as?

LP 3; CH 11; Try 2; D2 (I rewrote much of it)

7. Post any sentence from your Wip?

"He hoped someone else had to suffocate on this putrid victory."

8. A scrapped idea from your wip?

There's two whole scrapped scenes, one is of Kabuto having a nightmare that involves Nonou that's half a flashback if you wanna read it that way, and one is him and Sakura talking about death generally but about Sasori and Yoroi a bit.

9. What's a story you'd love to write but have yet to start?

I'd kinda like to do a "what if Naruto was on Team Kabuto" but I'm still not entirely sure how to tackle it.

Same with a "what if Nonou adopted Naruto and he and Kabuto were straight up brothers". I have ideas for it but they're pretty disconnected and more vibes than a plot. I don't write kids well.

Both are hard in part because idk how much canon divergence I'm comfortable with yet.

10. How many Wips are you actively working on?

1, probably will start something else when LP; Eternity is done

11. Is there a scene you're struggling to write right now?

Struggling to edit in general. The fic has caused a bit of a panic episode that I'm in treatment for. I don't want my mental health to take away something I was really enjoying though.

I hated how this looked as a drawing and the sketch was frustrating. I almost didn’t paint it because all I could see were the flaws, but I’m happy I finished it. The paint mostly redeemed it.

Here’s what I call the strawberry lemonade layer on this one:

Really this portion of it is what made me decide not to give up on it. Drawing through a crease is hard. 😐

I saw a bunch of pictures of bulldogs sleeping with their tongues out so I had to draw Bull like that.

It really, really isn't encouraging in the slightest... I'm guessing that the Reaper Death Seal leaving Orochimaru infirm played a role in solidifying Kabuto's loyalty. A running theme in the world of Naruto is that the characters deeply desire to be acknowledged by someone; even if it's bad attention or they're used like a tool. Kabuto was useful, not just for his spying capability or intelligence, but also because of his healing abilities.

Seeing as how Orochimaru depended on him for both treatment and another pair of functional arms, it made Kabuto feel indispensable. I also think their closer proximity made it harder for him to mentally detach himself, and keep Oro in the 'Unfeeling Monster' category-- I mean, if you see a person who's seemingly indestructible and unfeeling, writhing pathetically in agonizing pain, it's hard to keep believing they're inhuman.

Orochimaru, until Sasuke and Itachi, was the only one to truly know Kabuto's history too. Think about it! Danzo made him an unperson and he's out to kill him, Nono's dead and if his own mother couldn't recognize him, there's no way his brother Urushi would. As far as Kabuto knows, he's entirely alone and forgotten by the world, even at his new home in Otogakure. Except for Orochimaru. The only one he couldn't craft a false identity for like the rest of his co-workers, because he knew the truth. Ack, being Kabuto sounds incredibly sad! :c

This was such a delight to read! I don’t have much to add to it other than this:

Kabuto realizing that he had little where else to go except to Orochimaru because he had killed Nonou and that -in his view anyway- there was no way that the orphanage would ever take him back after learning this must have been an incredibly torturous and isolating thought.

Mother’s blood was on his hands!! His brothers and sisters must hate him!

I have to wonder if Orochimaru might have fueled those thoughts along the way just to help burn that bridge a little faster.

God, I’m just thinking about Kabuto.

He feared and resented Orochimaru for curating the perfect trap for him to desperately walk into. When Orochimaru became sick after the fight with the Third, he cared for him devotedly. Some days, he still wished that he killed Sasuke in that hospital. He feels compassion for Sasuke. He’s jealous of the fact that this new person is coming into the little world he has with Orochimaru. When he met Naruto in the chuunin exams, he felt hope for the first time in a long time. He’s jealous of the freedom Naruto possesses. He loathes Orochimaru’s “ritual” and the way it just consumes people. He thinks that Orochimaru is beautiful, mother and partner and mentor all at once. He misses Nonou every day, until the grief becomes hollow instead of a sensation of pain at the loss of love. He can go months even without thinking of Urushi, until he sees something that reminds him of his brother and the loss just catches up with him and he can’t breathe. He begrudgingly accepts Obito and they share their spite for the mentors that made them. He feels gratitude for Itachi for forcing him to wake up, and he despises him for stopping him from gaining even greater power. After the war, he begins again with his brother and they become close in fits and starts, learning how to be family again. Some days, he can’t get out of bed because the ache of loss of an old life washes over him. He adores his children and loves each orphan dearly. Sometimes, he remembers how wild and powerful he used to be. He doesn’t know how to feel about Orochimaru anymore. He loves his brother.
