"Damn it, he got me!"

While waiting impatiently to respawn, Fen stuffs her mouth full of chips and directs her attention to the chatbox next to her game screen instead. She tries to pay as much attention as she can to her Twitch subs, maintaining a friendly and laid-back atmosphere where she can indulge in snacks, gaming, and occasional swears while her audience contently watches her.

gentlexdemon23: Maybe if you used something other than dual pistols in this map you wouldn't suck so bad :)

Fen barely remembers to gulp down her food before reading out loud this particular comment that caught her attention, using an annoying voice for it.

"Dude, dual pistols are the best what are ya talking about? Why bother with another weapon when I've already mastered one. Dumbass."

Fen relaxes back into her gaming chair as a wall of the same comments saying "you must be new here", likely directed at gentlexdemon23, flash at a fast speed across the chat screen. Suddenly a telltale noise announces a donation, and Fen excitedly thanks the person before reading out:

Fen's bright magenta eyes all but begin to sparkle with excitement upon seeing the request.

"You mean my babies? Hell yeah! Thank you, Alice the second! Wait, are ya a chick? Or just another guy using a cute anime girl as their pfp?"

Fen's eyes scan carefully through the endless wave of lol's in fear she'll miss that one username she's looking for.

alicethe2nd: I'm a girl, haha! I'm not even into these things, I just fell down the rabbit hole and found myself watching your streams... I think you're cool!

This time Fen doesn't read the message out loud, though the way her lips move the people watching her could probably figure that the reply got to her safely. There's a brief pause that Fen utilizes to get back on track after failing to notice she's been respawned in the game. That's rare.

She's far from being so naive as to trust random fans blindly and take their word for granted, much less initiate further contact with them, even if that one sounded quite cute.

Oh well.

"Actually, ya know what? For that generous tip, I can even offer you a one-on-one call to see them up close. See chat, it's whatcha get for respecting Fen's babies! Leave me a DM, Alice."

excuse me for a moment while i go on a little rant about my limbus theory under a cut (and untagged because fandom scares me) bc i went on this rant earlier to a friend i want to post it

So one of the biggest complaints I've seen people have with the Dante-is-Ayin theory is that it's "bad writing to repeat the twist from the first game" and objectively, yes, but that's not what they're doing at ALL and I've said it before and I'll say it until I'm blue in the face. It's actually giving Ayin a chance to be a character with agency, and give him closure/a real ending.

Like. Okay. In Lobcorp. he has NO actual dialogue beyond player choices sometimes - which we know doesn't count thanks to games like Persona who have similar arguments about their PCs - and we never see his face until the very last Day of the game....and it's not even really 'him' it's basically his shadow talking to him! And even the flashbacks are almost certainly narrated by that shadow rather than the X/A we're playing as. Not to mention the amnesia for the first half of the game; and even after he remembers they call him A rather than X -- and we don't even get his full name until the very last lines of the game.

And let's be real here, I think it's very telling of his lack of agency that the last lines are "Your name is Ayin. Now close your eyes and fade away."

As he disappears into the Light he just spent the entire game generating.

Left on its own, and especially with the entirety of Ruina giving Angela closure and a place to overcome her trauma and issues, it's grievously unfair.

When half the plot of the game is Ayin helping save and guide the people in hell with him into closure and moving forward-- what does he get? Someone else telling him to fade away his role is over bye.

He doesn't get to get that closure and forgiveness and chance to move on that Angela does! He spends the whole game acting on someone else's last wish, someone else's dream, trying to save the people he'd condemned to hell and make up for his actions, and then he doesn't get to be saved with them.

He has no voice, no face, barely a name. No agency -- everything he does in Lobcorp is because of Carmen's wishes. Everything we hear about him is from the perspective of other people, and incredibly biased; even the flashbacks aren't from the POV of the X/A we're playing as but the 'shadow' (mirror self? haha looks at yi sang) from Day 50.

And more than that -- we don't know Ayin outside of Carmen. We don't know anything about his life before he met her. We don't know who he is, what he likes, what he wanted, what he studied, what he did before her. Everything Ayin has been in this series so far is from the lens of someone else. (So any theory tying him to Demian - even if Demian isn't related to Enoch, which is still possible - can still apply; because we don't know him outside Carmen, there could very well be a tie from before then.)

So Dante's faceless, voiceless nature, how they're just kind of forced into the situation they're in and how they're slowly gaining their own agency and deciding on their own will what kind of person they are and what they want to do, from their own perspective, as they seek to regain their voice and face and Self...

It's perfect.

It's not "bad writing" at all. It's like that quote from George Lucas: “Again, it’s like poetry, so that they rhyme. Every stanza kind of rhymes with the last one.” It's poetry.

A mirror of the first game, not a rehash of the same twist, a continuation of the story of the one character who never got his ending, who was never allowed to be a character, a person, who was never given his own choices on his own will, who was never given the opportunity for closure and moving on everyone else got. It's Ayin's chance for an ending, a real ending, one he's allowed to make with his own hands for himself. Face the sins and all that.

The Times They Are a Changin' by Bandtrees and Hatsunoid is absolutely amazing

...And if you can handle the contents of it. No seriously. The fic is definitely dark and if you're sensitive to MEDICAL ABUSE, GORE, AND ABLEISM—Don't read it. It's especially centered around those and unless you close your eyes for all of it, you're not going to be able to handle it.

BUT!! It's so good, I would love to erase my memory just to experience reading it for the first time all over again. The disturbing parts aren't OOC (in my opinion at least) and it's very well-written, some optional out-of-site parts too.

A Laconic Summary: Mob loses control over his powers and causes permanent brain damage to Reigen and Ritsu. This fic explores the possible effects of that

This fic is so good, I created a sideblog for my AO3 to post about it. This fic is so good, that I had to stop what I was doing even though it is probably going to be detrimental to my grades. This fic is so good, that I was nearly about to rip my hair out from its roots

It's about 100k chapters long, separated into two parts. I'm easily bored and there's been plenty of times I've read a fic with maybe half the length, gotten bored, and thought of some parts as a slogfest even when it really wasn't—I just suck at getting through longfics. But reading through this, there was never a point where I thought that. Tensions were always high, rising even when I thought it wouldn't be able to, and I would end up near-screaming

And the way it shows how different characters feel? Gorgeous. Amazing. Love it.

Obviously, we have the normal book style descriptions from one character's POV, but then we have Teru's diary and Shou's little monologues(?), and it's all really cool??!?! Maybe that's what helped keep my attention. That and the little off-site links.

Speaking of those, I think I found all of them, but I'm not that observant so I could have easily missed some. And wow. Jesus christ. The last couple ones, the ones of Shou's gallery as his phone was getting wrecked, I was. just. In shock. I'm a very sentimental person who cares about photos and things, and I don't know how Shou didn't begin loudly crying right then and there because I would have

And god, so many times did I think 'Is this fic going to have untagged MCD?'. I was constantly at the edge of my seat expecting that someone would die. Reigen, Ritsu, Mob, Shou, Teru, Dimple (especially when he confronted Mob right as he was about to lobotomize Ritsu)... Basically all the main characters in the fic had moments where I was preparing to mourn

Mob really left for the deep end in this fic. I won't say that I fully get why he was so convinced that what he was doing was right, but it makes sense for him. He's not the type to let go easily, he's someone who draws strength from his bonds, and his aspect could be blood. And almost all his life, the message to never give up was basically struck into his head over and over. The one time I can recall where it wasn't? Claw, Seventh Division, where Reigen told him it's okay to run away. But I doubt that tilted the scale into being balanced in the slightest. There's so much more I could say about him in this fic. But I'll save it for now

Teru was... Teru. I understand him more than I did Mob, I think if I were in his situation, I would have maybe stopped at a certain point but we would be very similar in most of the actions we take. In the first chapter, I went 'haha silly!' at his entries. Seeing them as a little treat between the downers surrounding it. But then after he helped 'operate' (It doesn't feel right calling it that), I guess it really hit me. Then I started questioning if I would have done what he did. Then I realised I would have. Then I spiralled until I told myself this kind of situation will likely never happen to me and if it does, I'll get to it when I get to it

Serizawa is easily one of the ones you can feel for the most. Unlike Mob and Teru, he hadn't done anything to Reigen and Ritsu personally. And unlike Shou and Dimple, he didn't say harsh words. Perhaps you could blame him for not taking action sooner, but they all can be blamed for that.

Shou... Oh my god. Shou. At first, I was ready to fight Shou tooth and nail because really? That one comment on FriendBook wasn't necessary. I don't know how or why Mob didn't block him. But then as Mob spiralled further and further, I was hoping for him to make his way back into the narrative to save Reigen and Ritsu. Then he did. And he failed and he was injured and I thought he was going to die. Then he didn't. And it's implied he could have helped them. But could he have also made it worse? Who knows, that's why I put Ambiguous Ending as a thing of note.

DON'T FORGET THE OUT-OF-LINK STUFF!!! Mixed media fics that have off-site links are truly beautiful. My friend and I love that shit. Should she ever get into MP100, I'll recommend this fic to him with a shit-eating grin on my face. I hope the word count doesn't intimidate him erogdfkg... Every single bit of the off-site links I saw was just so cool. The art of Reigen made me feel strong unease, the real videos too, and that one animated video with Ritsu and Mob and Teru. Okay basically everything gave me a strong unease. But that's the point!!! And it was done well!!!!

This fic is pure talent, skill, and effort put into something that shouldn't just be preserved via a PDF file, but should be carved into stone for future archaeologists to discover. I wish I could hold even a fraction of power needed to create something this masterful

On a more less-serious note to finish this off: Mobway. Red Mobster. I was about to lose my shit. Every single time one of the companies showed up I was about to tear my hair out (in a funny way) because it felt like falling for a prank. I ESPECIALLY LOST MY SHIT AT PSYCHOLOGIST PEPPER BECAUSE IT TOOK ME SCROLLING DOWN BEFORE REALISING. Truly, the minds behind this were geniuses

Also, this might sound weird, but I got reminded of KomaedaLoveMail while reading this. The off-site links to websites for sure helped, but I guess I just associate talk of gore in written form in this way with KLM? Or maybe I haven't quite recovered from consuming that piece of media (Can you even call KLM that?) yet. This isn't bad by the way, I loved deepdiving into KLM even though my feeble brain couldn't comprehend shit.

And and one last note- Opening the song link in the end notes was like emotional whiplash. I had to sit there for a bit to process. Good music

Ngl, the arguing and bickering subplot is getting a little old. I understand tensions are high due to the Doug situation, but where is the main plot?

I love how Hera and the crew will do things to try help each other feel comfortable even though Hera can’t feel human sensations and the humans can’t feel AI sensations.

JACOBI! Before I blocked the tags, I remember seeing your name. A few other names too in fact.

Well, well, well my friends. I’ve paused the episode to announce that the moment is finally here. You see I wanted to go into this spoiler free, so I dutifully blocked the Wolf359 tags on tumblr. But before I blocked the Wolf359 tags, I saw a lot of angsty Wolf359 fan art from my mutuals heavily implying that the Hephaestus crew gets betrayed by someone they come across. Now I’m going to assume that this is true, maybe I’m off base, maybe I’m not, please don’t confirm or deny anything. But working off this assumption, incorrect or otherwise, is very exciting because I just remember the art, nothing about names or context other than what I stated previously, which means it’s time to play everyone’s favorite game show:

Welcome to the show ladies and gentlemen. We’ll be checking in later to review our options, but for now let’s see what we got. In one corner we got Jacobi. I recall my mutuals posting about him, but were they doing it affectionately or with anger… ooo… that detail escapes me. And as always we have the “Bods… no one is gonna betray anyone except Cutter and maybe Hilbert again. They’re the bad guys. You already know this. I don’t know what fan art you thought you saw but literally what are you talking about?” And if that is the case then… uh… just ignore this sorry guys.

Ohhhh… never mind! Option 3 has arrived: Wareen Kepler. Works for Goddard Futuristics which already puts him high on the traitor suspect list. But of course Kepler and Jacobi could be working together, come to think of it, I think I might have seen a ship tag of them before blocking the general Wolf359 tag. Is it because they’re a canon couple? Good space buddies? Or a pair of sneaky Judases united by the atrocities they’ve committed? Only time will tell.

SI-5? Okay I have FOR SURE seen that mentioned before.

Kepler knows Hilbert? Oh yeah… yeah Kepler is moving right up that suspect list. Red flags out the wazoo.

Okay Kepler. Respecting Hera’s name. That’s nice, but the red flags are still waving. What do you want to know about Hilbert’s work?

SI-5 agents? Black operations work? Top men? Kepler… the most dangerous man you’ll ever met? Don’t like that.

Don’t like you either scary lady. Oh. She was addressing Hera. I like that, but Dr. Maxwell? So far we haven’t had good luck with science people working for Cutter. And if she’s an AI specialist, she could very well be Cutter’s version of Garrison (@ my TMBS mutuals). Looks like detective Bods has sniffed out another suspect.

Well. She seems very helpful. Suspiciously helpful. And… my AirPods are out of juice.

Thank goodness AirPods charge quickly. Now let’s see… Maxwell is an AI specialist. Oh Hera sounded a bit nervous when she realized Maxwell developed AI. Makes you wonder how AI developers treat their creations. And yeah, why would command send you?

“Who said anything about a rescue mission”?

I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT. IT’S ALL THREE OF THEM ISN’T IT AND I’VE BUSTED THOSE LYING LIARS I’VE CRACKED THE CASE WIDE OPEN.

Maxwell did that to Hera? Oh I might just hate her the most. She needs to keep her hands off of the AI. I know people like her, I recall seeing her name in posts, people have usernames with her in it, but look, right now, I really can’t stand SI-5. Cutter’s little errand boys have got to go.

I love how Hilbert is just back with them now 😂

Yeah, I don’t think knocking them out will work. Never thought I’d say this but Hilbert has a point. Wait, personal interest? I don’t want Cutter taking a personal interest in anything. And I don’t just mean anything involving the mission or space or AI, I mean literally anything. He can’t even take a personal interest in knitting or bowling or historical trivia. He doesn’t deserve hobbies.

Kepler was the one who lied about Lovelace. Well, well, well. Seems like someone has a motivate to kill. 👀

Oh no. They really got to Hera. But if you want to be subtle maybe DON’T change her language like that.

“The Black Archives” well that doesn’t sound ominous at all. “Things that aren’t supposed to come back, they shouldn’t have a paper trail. They could get us into legal trouble”.

Oh I certainly hope they do Rachel. I hope you get your butts dragged to court: you, Cutter, Jacobi, Kepler, and Maxwell. I hope they throw you in cells without toothpaste and feed you nothing but the frozen mush you gave your astronauts. I hope, just like poor Doug, they force feed you enough cigarettes to get you addicted and then take them away to prevent your from dying faster, but still make you to feel the cravings Doug felt. And if you’re wondering why Hilbert isn’t on my jail list, his recent actions have struck a comical and benevolent chord in my soul. I sentence him to a lifetime of community service that involves surrendering his free will to his creation: the blessed eternal.

What does Blessie think about all this? No one has mentioned him. SI-5 either hasn’t noticed or doesn’t care. But Blessie is a very capable plant. A good ally to have in a time like this.

Omega contingency? “Last resort”. I don’t like that.

Sorry for dumping in your inbox again haha, but anyways-- just rn I came across a post on my dash about how it's the reader's duty to check tags, and that you shouldn't attack fanfic authors for "writing stuff you don't like" (ie proship nonsense lol), and while I do agree that it's always important to check tags thoroughly; I kept thinking about how many times I came across disturbing content, that WASNT tagged, and it was making me think, "if this wasn't tagged, don't I have the right to be upset about it being included?"

For example, my special interest is specifically Kaeya, an Indian character from genshin impact. On the rare occasions that I read fanfic, it's usually one shots of them-- however SO many fanfics end up describing kaeya in the most racist or fetishy way imaginable, or have characters say or do racist things towards them! And look-- I can handle kaeya fics involving racism (hell, I even write some for my friends and I to discuss!!!), however those fics are usually exploring racism as a THEME, and how it impacts the character! Most fanfics though? Absolutely don't do that!! And the racism is literally NEVER tagged!! There's no warning of kaeya being called a fucking "caramel twink" or have their brother say racist shit to them! There's none of that! Idk...

TL;DR ppl don't understand that you can't trust authors to tag everything/not to be pieces of shit, and that it shouldn't be reader's fault for stumbling across untagged shit that upset them + genshin fans suck ass lol

but yes most fic writers are fucking atrocious when it comes to tagging, and oh how they bristle when you ask them to tag something more appropriately. it's why the 'creator chose not to warn' tag is so....pointless to me??? that shit is my enemy. like warning readers about a topic or theme that might trigger them is common courtesy imo. and if your story can't stand without you making the triggering content be a surprise then like...that's a skill issue I fear. it's always 'fic writers don't owe you anything' and all this attitude but then that attitude is gone when our hard work isn't recognized the way we want.

like I can understand being like 'fic writers don't owe you anything' when it's someone that's telling you the direction your story should go, or constantly demanding updates and not like....idfk interacting with this thing you're making as it comes. I get that! but this is kinda supposed to be a community, and communities build each other up and call us in when needed...so maybe we should be open to more than just blind uncritical praise. but what do I know!

but yes, they are never, ever going to tag for racism like that. when it's how you write it, in EXPLORATION AS A THEME then hell yeah it'll be tagged. but when it's racial fetishization, or an irrational bashing fic towards a character of color...no, no. that'll never get tagged. you can certainly bring up why it's hurtful to the author, but chances are high that won't go suuuper well. 'cause I mean...the last few weeks have really reminded me that when it comes to racism fandom is just stupid as hell about it so what else can we expect lmao.

but yeah I feel your pain so hard. every time I hear about the genshin fandom it's when they're doing something racist so. I'm sending a prayer up for your strength lmao. I hope you've got a good community of color around you there because man it sure helps you feel less fucking insane.

I've weathered many a fandom, and something I noticed about OFMD is that--while I've seen damn near every kink under the sun take off with the fans--there isn't a lot of feedist/weight gain/belly kink arts/fic. And I wonder if it's because OFMD already features multiple sexy fat characters, all of whom are allowed to be richly complex and human?

At first I'd thought it would be the opposite, show with multiple fat characters overflowing with belly kink fan work. But then I looked back on the fandoms I've been in, and feedism content seemed to show up more if there weren't a lot or any fat characters, and what fat characters were around were just one note and not allowed to be their own person.

Reminds me of how, in stories not featuring a lot of queer people, fans chomp at the bit to headcanon canonically cishet characters as some flavor of queer.

Like if there's *lack* of representation fans will compensate, whether it's headcanoning a straight character as gay or having a canon thin character gain a bunch of weight. But in stoires like in OFMD, there's less likelihood of fans trying to make up for a lack of rep *because* there's no lack. The rep is there and it's good.

To be honest I don't quite relate to what you mean because to me OFMD is the only fandom I've felt like I've been a part of a community of feedists in, haha. Forgive me if you weren't saying this and I've read it wrong, but I think you're saying there's not much belly kink content for OFMD?? I often think about how I'm fascinated by the fact that, in my eyes, belly kink content took off in this fandom. Although you're right that there's not that much art out there except for my own, haha. I have seen other people draw like, fat Izzy and stuff, but mostly on commission. I don't know if I can find those links rn but I'll look around later on and maybe reblog this post.

I know I don't get a lot of interaction on this blog and my fics aren't THAT popular but between the discord server and the fact I don't have much experience with getting attention in larger fandoms but there's been a fair amount of engagement with my feedism fics in this fandom AND I've read a lot of belly fic in this fandom, it seems to me like belly kink is fairly accepted here?

There's also just a general appreciation for the softness of bodies in fic in this fandom, I tend to find. It's more common than in other fandoms for non-belly kink fic to mention soft bellies. Well, it's no Good Omens fandom, where the belly stuff is sorta almost taken as a given and it's borderline kink and goes untagged sometimes too it's so inherent to the main pairing, but the OFMD fandom certainly has an appreciation for softness of the body types of the middle-aged main pairing.

I don't know exactly what other fandoms you're referencing, maybe big fandoms that just inherently have bigger sample sizes for people of all different kinks, but OFMD seems pretty full of belly stuff to me? And a lot more of it seems really loving and comes with plot and character study than I've sometimes seen in other fandoms where there's nothing but the belly stuff in the belly content, to a point it almost seems, for lack of a better word, dehumanising? Or, lacks romance, anyway. Most of the belly stuff I encounter in OFMD is very horny but also has a sweetness to it, or like, comes along with fairly common and enticing fanfic plots, maybe even some angst, just overall a lot of heart and a lot of dimension.

You'll find the majority of feedist-themed OFMD fic under this and that search, I think. I'm sure you didn't need any help with this but I really do think there's a fair amount of it out there. I'm also friends with people who are often working on more of it at any given time.

I know what you mean about the compensation thing though. Like, I reckon when it comes to the ratio of feedist fic to normal fic, there's probably not as much in the Sherlock fandom, but there's more numerically, I think. And it's not at all a fandom you'd guess from the canon would have any belly content in it. I think it makes more sense in Supernatural because there's a lot more food and eating in the canon there, but then you've also got characters who just never seem to gain any weight, and yeah, like. That can drive people a bit nuts. I can't quite think of other examples now but feel free to let me know. Still, I don't think, when you think about the fact there's a lot less fic for OFMD overall (especially because it's existed for a lot less time!!! these other fandoms have been producing content and active for years!) then there's actually quite a bit of belly fic. There really could be more art tho tbh... I am talking to a Void here lmaooo...

Definitely Bed Roulette. This fic was such a struggle. Anyone who knows me, knows that I struggle with outright funny comedy writing and this fic's whole point was comedy. It was written for the Untagged Fest so I was given the characters and trope and genre and just had to figure it out. I still don't really like it, haha, but people were nice about it in the comments so that was good.

Oh, very difficult question. I'm not sure. I rarely expect much response on things, but one fic that I didn't expect was going to be quite so popular was Playing with fire. It's by far my most read and kudoed fic and it's just a silly pwp.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

That Cartman has stuffed animals! Though I hate him as a person (but love him as a character), the scene where he had a tea party, and the other where he played toys with Bebe... all strangely endearing.

I'd also say that he is canonically good at singing/rapping. Let's be honest, his rap in 'Put it Down' went hard.

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Total Drama series. There is no real reason for this other than I'd pay good money to see how Cartman interacts with Chris, Heather and Alejandro lmao. He would also do a great job at scheming his way to the million dollars.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

'Poker Face', by Lady Gaga haha.

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

Just our love for cats and stuffed animals, that's all. :)

I have no idea if this counts, but it's one-sided Kyman from Cartman's side. I stress on the "one-sided" part, because I genuinely can't see Kyle reciprocating at all, and mutual Kyman simply does not spark joy for me. Whenever I come across untagged Kyman in fics, I immediately leave lmao.

Kyle and Cartman is my second favourite dynamic to watch on screen (after Stan and Kyle), not only because their rivalry is funny af, but there's just something so fascinating about Cartman's fucked up obsession with Kyle... and not in the "man this is so cute!!" way, but in the "wow what the fuck is wrong with you. I wanna study you under a microscope" way.

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

Apart from the obvious illegal ships, it's a tie between Heiman (for obvious reasons) and the flavour of Kyman where Kyle reciprocates. I'm also not a big fan of Candy either, though I'll admit that their battle interactions in TFBW made me laugh hard.

17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?

Although it's a ship I'll never seek out in fanart/fics, probably Kenman. Not something I feel particularly strong about, but if they're a side ship in a fic then I'm cool with it.

I see youre now writing it, and I was under the impression you also absolutely hated it. BUT i would also to overcome this hatred. I still do as well have a deep hatred for untagged daddy kink in the way I have a hatred for any untagged kink. let people know what they're getting into! something that might be sexy to you could be triggering to someone else! (I think so so often about the time I read a fic and right as a character was going to come, they peed instead and the author note at the bottom was "haha my piss kink strikes again!" please do not do that to people oh my god)

You were under the correct impression, anon! I've been pretty up front about it for a long time: I really hated daddy kink. (I blocked people if they so much as reblogged posts from me calling Ashton daddy, I won't lie about it; all of them are unblocked now tho sorry guys!) And I still cannot say that I like daddy kink or seek it out. Seeing the tag certainly never entices me towards a fic (except for the very rare occasions when I have gone searching for it). And sometimes I do find myself not clicking fics because that kink was involved. HOWEVER (and this is when we get into the meat and potatoes of this too long response)

I've actually written a daddy kink fic before! I wrote a fic about a year ago with ~subversive~ daddy kink because I thought to myself, well surely there's a way to write this that won't upset me? Any kink can be done well, can't it? There is a reason that so many people like this so much and I just have to fashion it in such a way that works for me too and I realized some very important things while writing that fic:

The reason that I loathed daddy kink so deeply was not because of the word itself but rather the implications that often accompany a kink like that. Daddy kink is often perpetuated in such a way that is detrimental to one party of the relationship. This is usually the sub/bottom or whoever the one that is being "dominated" is. Daddy kink is commonly found in fic dynamics that lack proper care and consent and, oftentimes, the dominance leaves the bedroom in a manner that is not appropriate. Often, whoever the "daddy" character is, is seen as a stern figure whose harshness is somehow meant to be sexy, when in realty it is thinly veiled abuse. Due to the continued pairing of these tropes (the term "daddy" being coined by over-submission/feminization/abuse), I often found myself (and still find myself) cautious around the kink. This is not, however, because of the kink itself but rather because of what often accompanies it.

Ultimately, the thing that made me a lot more lenient on the kink was simply viewing it as something partners do just to feel kinky. It's like how 1 in 5 couples (this might be a very outdated statistic by now) use handcuffs to "spice things up" in the bedroom. How many of those people are legitimately into "bondage" or Dom/sub? Not that many. But handcuffs feel like a way to add creativity and eroticism into their sex life! It's a way to connect! And, personally, I believe the same can extend to daddy kink. People don't always have daddy kinks because they have daddy issues. It's not always because they value a D/s dynamic and crave to be bossed around. Sometimes people do things just because they like participating in an intimate act with their partner and sharing something with them. It's intimate and personal and loving. One of the things I employed in my own daddy kink fic and something I personally love as a reader, is when two characters employ something during sex/in their relationship together (such as a daddy kink) and they go "hehe this is just for us <3 no one outside of this room will ever hear it or be privy to what we do together in the comfort and safety of our own bed <3 i love you for sharing this with me."

On another level - specifically with Ashton, let's say, because he's often the one who gets saddled with the Daddy moniker (and is literally called daddy by his bandmates, shoutout to the fellas for being so down bad) - daddy kink can represent something quite interesting and affectionate! While speaking with a Daddy Kink Expert™, she said something that I really appreciated: "[daddy kink] is a blend between strength and traditional masculinity [and also representative of] the most beautiful softness [Ashton] has to offer" because daddy kink is paired with a person who both 1) exudes strength within the relationship they're in and 2) takes care of and is also gentle w/ their partner. The appeal of the daddy kink should lie in that component of caregiving and protection (without the toxic jealousy shit!! none of that!!! daddy should not be punching people when they try to touch his s/o!!! daddy should be nice!!!).

You have to separate "daddy" from dad. I know that's a difficult thing to do considering the DD/lg community but that is really not where the "fun" in this kink lies. And, personally, I do still absolutely hate DD/lg dynamics because I still feel they push pedophilic narratives and I will always feel that. However, the word "daddy" in and of itself is not inherently about that or tied to those dynamics. Dad and Daddy are two very different things and I know that a lot of people get very hung up on that component of it (and there are a lot of people who perpetuate the kink which conflate those two things - I'm fucking looking at you sexual ageplayers and i'm not ashamed to admit it - and that's not healthy bc u shouldn't want to fuck your dad, Oedipus) but as someone who can and has read daddy kink a number of times, I'm never relating it even remotely to my own father or a "fatherly" role. It's just a vocab word to be used to feel kinky and also to represent caregiving.

I know that daddy kink is often associated with the things I've talked about above and so it makes sense that it's often a hard no across the board for people because when you see daddy kink you don't know what you're going to encounter! It could be hardcore D/s, it could be ripe with terrifying pedophilic implications, or it could just be a simple word that is used for partners to feel connected with one another.

What I've personally learned to do is just trust the other tags the fic comes with and the author writing the story. If I know the author, I'll hop right on in! I've read their stuff before and I know they'll be kind to these characters and not put them in situations they shouldn't be. If I see the tag "safe, sane, consensual" or "consent" or "kink negotiation," I also know I should be okay. But, if I just see "daddy kink" with nothing else to indicate the characters involved are safe in this dynamic, I keep on scrolling. It's primarily about finding a balance and fics that feel safe to you!

And most importantly: please remind yourself that you don't need to overcome your hatred. It's not a personal failing on your part that you don't like daddy kink and there is absolutely nothing wrong with not liking a kink. Some of us just don't like stuff! And you don't need to try to make yourself like something <3

I know you're deep in OFMD mode, but I remember back in the day you got into Good Omens for a while! Have you checked out the second season/do you plan to? I had a great time with it, I thought it was a very fandom-tailored follow-up.

I have! Some spoilers under the cut.

So I'll start off with the caveat that I didn't watch it especially closely. I felt kind of pressured to binge it because there were untagged spoilers everywhere and Good Omens is a show I really wanted to experience vs. finding out everything that happens via gif sets/live reactions/spotify playlists. So I rushed through it even though I wasn't able to fully focus and appreciate it, which means I definitely missed some things. Which was kind of irritating, but I figured I'd do a rewatch soon enough to pick up on those things.

I thought it was enjoyable. It did feel like fan fic to me, which I think can be a plus or a minus depending on who you ask, haha, but I enjoyed seeing more of Crowley and Aziraphale's interactions over the years. There were some really delightful, wonderful moments. I love their characters and I loved seeing them on my screen again.

I am not a fan of Jon Hamm and was annoyed Gabriel was going to be such a focus this season because I already liked to forget he was a part of the show LOL but I had time to prepare myself for that. I did think that romance came out of nowhere but again thought maybe I just missed some clues since, like I said, I wasn't doing the closest watch, but from some posts I've seen I don't think that's the case.

I just... I know this is the 2nd act of a three act play. I know this is the dark before the storm. I know Crowley and Aziraphale need to grow and learn to truly talk to each other if they're going to be together. I fully get all that, and I'm sure if there's a third season like Gaiman wants then they'll figure out how to properly understand each other and get their happily ever after.

But the "I forgive you" felt like such a cruel twist of the knife that honestly it tainted a lot of my enjoyment of the season as a whole and I don't know when I'll be able to bring myself to rewatch it. And I've seen the oat milk theories, which... idk somehow almost feels worse in my mind? Like "oh he was drugged, he didn't mean it," but meanwhile my beloved best demon Crowley is just out here being devastated? And that's not even getting into the metaphorical layers there that I honestly just don't have the brain space right now to speak to coherently. I dunno, I know this season was supposed to be the bridge to the sequel to Good Omens Gaiman and Pratchett planned to write, so I'm assuming that needed to start from a place where Crowley and Aziraphale were on opposite sides and upset with each other. That's all well and good. I'm not even opposed to Aziraphale rejecting Crowley, because we all know he's constantly about a thousand steps behind him. For me, though, the execution felt more like pain for pain's sake and I wish there had been some more kindness, both for Crowley and for viewers.
