I love how they decided to make Ungolim (the Listener) and Lucien hot in Legends they were like 'those deranged murder cult members can look sexy once... as a treat"

What if I started treating fithragaer the way people treat other extremely static male elder scrolls NPCs. Making up complex motivations and backstories. Sexualizing him. Make a blandly attractive female hero of kvatch for the express purpose of shipping the two of them

Silly idea but hear me out…
Black Hand DND night sessions. An Au where DND is a thing in Tamriel for some reason.
Ungolim the Listener: The DM who suffers from the usual PC shenanigans. Took a month to prepare the campaign, players progress through increasingly stupid ways so he improvises.
Lucien Lachance: Tiefling Warlock who keeps forgetting that he’s not playing as a Rogue
Arquen: High Elf Artificier with a steampunk aesthetic who keeps making increasingly stupid and/or cursed inventions
J’Ghasta: Tabaxi Monk who’s Tanky and fixes problems by punching em
Alval Uvani: Coked up Mage with shitty dice throws
Mathieu Bellamont: Female Half-Elf Bard who just tries to inspire feat. Shitty dice throws
Belisarius Arius: Female Human Cleric who hates everything.
Banus Alor: Literally just a Rock with Weed trapped in it. Can’t move, can’t speak. Just a really tanky Weed Rock who gets everyone high. He seems like the kind of guy to play as the dumbest thing imaginable.
Just food for thought

Trying to figure out the designations of Oblivion's Black Hand prior to the deaddrop switch and I just realised something strange...
Ungolim
Lucien Lachance
Arquen
Belisarius Arius
J'Ghasta
Alval Ulvani
Mathieu Bellamont
Shaleez
Havilstein Hoarblood
Banus Alor
These are all the members of the Black Hand that appear in Oblivion, excluding the PC. Four Speakers, a Listener, and their five talons, the Silencers. Ten people in all. But when the PC is named Silencer, all of these people are still alive, and if all of them were members at that time, then the Black Hand would suddenly have eleven people instead of ten. And that doesn't work with the way Lucien tells us that it works. So chances are that someone got an abrupt promotion once the killings started, and the only person who makes sense to me is Banus Alor.
We know that Bellamont was promoted to the Black Hand as a Silencer about a year or more prior to the Player's arrival in the Brotherhood. Shaleez and Havilstein Hoarblood are also Silencers, as they tend to live in remote places or on the move so they can carry out their duties without being tied to a single place.
As for the others, Ungolim is the Listener, we know that for a fact. Lucien is obviously a Speaker, and we can presume that Arquen has been one for some time, given her role as the player's guide post-questline. Belisarius mentions that he's been responsible for administrative duties for years and hasn't gotten to spill blood in a long time, which is much more in line with a Speaker than a Silencer, so we can presume he's been a Speaker for a long time.
J'Ghasta and Alval HAVE to have been members of the Black Hand prior to the deaddrop switch because they're the ones named in those fake contracts. Their roles aren't super clear because according to UESP they're both Speakers... but that doesn't really work as we already have three confirmed Speakers and three confirmed Silencers, so they have to be one or the other. Speakers seem to have an established residence while the Silencers tend to move around a bunch (with Bellamont being an exception) so I lean towards Speaker J'Ghasta and Silencer Ulvani, but it really could go either way. There's definitely a compelling case for Speaker Ulvani, so it's up to preference really
Whatever the case, that still leaves Banus Alor as our odd one out as having no mention of prior experience and history with the Black Hand, whether in dialogue or from contracts. If he was a member of the Black Hand at the time of the Purification, then the Player being named Silencer makes no sense because going by the numbers, Lucien should have a Silencer still. So what gives with his being here? The doylist reason is pretty clear - the Black Hand has five members, so Bethesda wanted you to have five people going into the Night Mother's crypt for this election ritual. It represents a hand without talons, but a whole hand nonetheless, and someone has to be elected as the thumb.
But in-universe, the only way it works is if there were some very hurried promotions, and what we have in game backs that up. The Player is promoted to Speaker pretty much immediately upon their arrival at Applewatch because Arquen and the others know that they're innocent. Bellamont, a confirmed Silencer, is also a Speaker now. Along with Arquen and Belisarius, that makes four. But they need five if they're going to be four fingers and a thumb when they invoke the Night Mother. So at some point, the Black Hand decided to pick a family member to become a Speaker, and that family member was Banus Alor. Maybe he was a potential Silencer candidate they were keeping tabs on in case a position opened up. Maybe he oversaw a Sanctuary. Or maybe he was chosen for his ability to kill, as that would aid them best against Lucien.
So yeah. Can you tell I didn't sleep at all last night?

for that character ask game: the gray prince, lucien lachance and baurus! :D
Why would you do this to me... why would you give me the tragic ones...
Gray Prince
First impression: I thought he was a bit ridiculous and didn't really fit in with everyone else in the arena, mostly due to the way he speaks and acts.
Impression now: God that poor guy... I really do feel for him. I cannot imagine the shock when he found out about his true heritage, and I can understand why it was all too much for him. After all, the general consensus is that all vampires are evil, and poor Agronak really doesn't have a way of knowing that's not the case. And I really don't think his mother made things better for him with how she must have told him half-truths about where he came from. I know she likely meant well, but in that particular case, it would probably have been better if she'd just made something up instead of giving her son these bits of information that of course he'd want to follow up on if given the chance.
Favorite moment: None, because the best ones are all tragic and I refuse to call them "favorites."
Story idea: The HoK going "fuck this, you don't need someone to kill you over this, you need friends" and supporting Agronak, and somehow this kickstarts a series of changes in the arena that results in people just... not getting killed as much anymore, where there are no more "criminals who are given a chance to earn their freedom", only professional fighters who fight to win, not to kill.
Unpopular opinion: Agronak's mother should either have told him the truth or nothing at all. She allowed him to build his life around a fantasy, and so she's partially to blame for what happened to him when it came crashing down.
Favorite relationship: The one that he could possibly have had with his father, who we know loved his baby and was excited to be a father.
Favorite headcanon: Agronak was the kid that got bullies to leave other kids alone. I can totally see him being that kind of person even at a very young age.
Lucien Lachance
First impression: *incoherent screeching because someone just You Sleep Rather Soundly For A Murderer'd me* Not gonna lie, he scared the shit out of me the first time around because I was not expecting him. It got better once I realized he was the alive version of my ghost buddy from Skyrim.
Impression now: I love, love, love that man. He's undoubtedly one of my favorite characters in the entire franchise, mostly because he is so dramatic, and he's utterly unapologetic about what he does. I may or may not have a mod that allows me to kill Arquen for what she did to him.
Favorite moment: I think that would be that one moment where he shows up after you just killed Ungolim and he realizes that both he and his Silencer have been played. He's usually so calm and confident about everything, and in that moment, he's just... not.
Story idea: This is a rather obvious one, but... the Silencer being a lot smarter than the game allows them to be and instantly noticing the different handwriting and strange wording of the first switched set of orders. Why would Lucien suddenly change his handwriting? Why would he suddenly give reasons for killing someone, when that's never been an issue before? Bonus points if the Silencer has also managed to keep the Shadowscales and Vicente alive and they team up to figure out who has it out for Lucien. But I haven't yet figured out a good enough reason to let them live.
Unpopular opinion: He's not this mysterious, silent and brooding man that some people see him as? He can play that part exceptionally well when it suits him, because he's a great actor, but it's not really him. The real Lucien can be pretty goofy and over the top and overly dramatic, and his family loves him for it.
Favorite relationship: Dad Lucien and his Shadowscale kids!
Favorite headcanon: Lucien shows his affection through keeping people on their toes, i.e. sneaking up on them and scaring and attacking them. He never does serious harm, of course, but he's serious enough about it that people fight back and defend themselves. The family eventually figures out why he does it - he wants them to live, and by making sure they can handle him when he's serious either by escaping or matching him in a fight, he ensures that they will live through pretty much any contract.
Baurus
First impression: Oh thank the Divines, a competent Blade!
Impression now: Still pretty much the same, only now I'm also aware of just how young he has to be when the crisis happens, and he still proves to be one of the bravest and smartest people around. Also, I think he played an important role in making sure neither Martin nor the HoK crumbled under the pressure of being just some random people suddenly burdened with having to save the world.
Favorite moment: I think my favorite Baurus moment is when he meets with the Mythic Dawn agents, and he walks into that meeting knowing that if anything goes wrong, or if the HoK's aim is just a little off, he's dead, and he still does his job perfectly. The amount of trust he places in the HoK is insane, especially because he knows they were in prison just a little while ago and could easily walk out on him or even turn on him.
Story idea: ... and this is where I currently can't come up with something :(
Unpopular opinion: I don't think I have any unpopular Baurus opinions. And why would I?
Favorite relationship: Baurus and Martin. Those two deserved more time together. It would have been a life-long friendship.
Favorite headcanon: He's a little bit of a matchmaker and definitely ships Martin and the HoK. Jena is his accomplice.

✨Spoilers for TES IV and V if you're reading this.✨
I saw a thing a little while ago that said that Skyrim was darker than Oblivion.
As someone's who's played more Skyrim than Oblivion, here are a few reasons why I think that's false.
Gonna start with some of the dark stuff from Skyrim
So Skyrim has it's fair share of pretty dark moments: Mercer Frey trying to murder the LDB, Astrid trying to murder the LDB but it backfires, everything with Cicero, the Namira and Boethiah quests, the entire concept of Alduin, that one Barrow in the northeast with the necrophiliac, the whole deal with the Falmer and how their souls are no longer black souls, and more I'm sure I haven't found yet.
However, most of those fit with the general aesthetic of the game. Skyrim is a cross between harsh frozen wasteland, dangerous forest, and dragon raids. Also Mercer and Astrid are part of the groups that are well outside of the law. Also also Astrid broke all the tenets already. I don't really like Astrid.
On the other hand, you've got Oblivion, and I think I'll start with the Blackwood Company.
So in the fighters guild questline, the HOK joins the Blackwood Company to infiltrate it and like, see what's going on. They get sent on this mission and have to drink this hist sap that makes them think that they're killing goblins when they're actually killing the townsfolk.
You want darker? It gets darker.
I'm not entirely sure where this next one comes from, but some random dark elf dies in front of you after trying to be crowned king or something. He just straight up gets electrocuted by the Ayleid chair.
additionally, Oblivion has it's main call to fame: the literal realm of Oblivion. If you've played the game, there's really not much need to explain. If not, there's just random corpses hanging around, there's these things called something along the lines of "the punished". It's quite literally just flesh bags filled with loot.
The main quest itself is filled with dark themes, which makes sense-- you're stopping a cult trying to bring about the end of the world. The cave thing under Mankar Camoren's Paradise is full of people being tortured by being submerged in lava but they don't die. It seems that even those who were loyal to the Mythic Dawn are not safe from the Savage Garden.
This one's a random detail, but there's a alchemist in Leyawiin who wants to know the fine for necrophilia. Apparently it's less than Morrowind.
Corvus Umbranox was kept from his home and family because of the cowl of the Grey Fox and his wife almost arrested him when he tried to return to her. Their reunion was very sweet aside from that.
To close this out, I'd like to turn to the Dark Brotherhood from Oblivion. Throw out Astrid and her failed betrayal, let's talk about how Mathieu Bellamont almost succeeded in wiping the entire Brotherhood out. This gets its own group of sections. I really like the Dark Brotherhood and I'll probably go into that rabbit hole later.
To kick it off, let's start with the Purification. I think it's implied that Bellamont was the reason the Purification in the Cheydinhal sanctuary happened. So that's killing off everyone who trusted you.
Secondly, you have the dead drops. After the first two of those, you're just killing off members of the Black Hand.
After that is the murder of Lucien Lachance. I don't think I'll ever forget walking into Applewatch the first time. And then Bellamont kills two more people before getting killed himself.
Random side note, but Ungolim put up a heck of a fight when I tried to kill him. I think he knew he was next.
I've skipped over the Daedric quests, maybe I'll do something comparing the ones in Oblivion to those in Skyrim later, but Namira's was pretty gnarly.
Anywho, if you read all of this, thank you!

🗡Yandere!Lucien Lachance(General) headcanons🌑:
Tumblr media
Tw: Yandere themes, GN!reader, reader is not the listener, Slight canon divergence, Stalking, Possessive behaviours, Murder, Minor characters’ deaths, Implied torture, Violence, Kidnapping, Manipulation, Sociopathic behaviours, Death cult, Sadism, Implied captivity, Hyperventilation.
The last time he has seen something spectacular like you, when he was at Riften. At that time, he was aiming to become a full fledged member of the Dark Brotherhood by retrieving and returning the Blade of Woe to its original owner/s. Which happens to belong to the dark guild itself. Each day since his initiation, his thoughts has always been directed at you. Like a plague, that infested in his mind.
He was equally impressed as he is frustrated. How could he been swayed by someone that is his direct antipode. You were kind, innocent, and pure of all things. Whilst he was a cut-throat, immoral, and has an insatiable hunger for nothing more than to slit some poor bastard’s flesh and watch the crimson rivulet paints the cobblestone.
Seeing your disgusting demure expression as you helped a possible conman beggar, barely having any septims for yourself made him skeptical of your intentions. ‘Is it naïvety that leads you, or are you truly as pure as you appear to be?’ That he ponders watching the life of his current victim vanish as he killed them.
Lucien is very aware, that it won’t end well for the both of you. But Oblivion be damned, he was intrigued by them. It reached the point, that he seeks to investigate more about them. So, he did. With each information gained, his obsession with them festers.
They had a harrowing upbringing, yet they remained unmarred. Deep down in his shrivelled heart or what remains of it, he hopes that you would not end up corrupting yourself or let the world do so.
Due to his occasional “visits” while you were resting, he had to get rid of the pests that tried to corrupt you. Watching the terror swimming in their eyes as he tormented before finishing them off, brought him nothing but the pinnacle of joy and adrenaline. They have no right to someone as holy as you, nor do those “companions” of yours.
Lucien knows that he is a selfish man, for Sithis’s sake he is a hired murderer, but he wishes to put a claim on your adoring purity and twist it into something entirely unrecognisable. Something fit for his own sickening vision. His own silencer, that notion made his usual stoic expression upturn to a ghost of a smile.
Despite it all, it was the fact they’re the hero of Kvach that surprised him the most. The same hero that pushed away the daedras invasion at Kvach, later Burma. Hmm, perhaps he can arrange an “official” meeting with them. It was only a matter of time, before you were enlisted on the behalf of his mother’s instructions. For the time being, Lucien is rather content on observing and indulging in your unique ticks from afar.
Lo and behold, the day has cometh when Ungolim has instructed him to recruit the hero that Lucien personally knew as “(Y/n)” on the behest of the Night Mother. And, who is he to deny her his wishes.
"You sleep rather soundly for a murderer. That's good. You'll need a clear conscience for what I'm about to propose." He spoke in his rich baritone voice. Watching them jolt up from their bed in surprise, brought him nothing but dark satisfaction.
“I…It was an accident. I… didn’t mean to.” You refuted guiltily holding the periphery of your ebony dagger, lest the assassin dressed in all black decided you are no longer needed alive.
“Based on your artwork today, I’d argue against that. You’d make a fine assassin, darling. So proficient, that the Night Mother -herself- had to speak and decide you’re worthy.” The shady stranger teased. His pearly teeth were shown in a predatory grin, as his dark eyes dissected every movements you made.
They may have fought daedras, yet he knew all the intimate details regarding them. If push comes to shove, then he will disarm and scare them into submission. But, he doesn’t want to make this mission any harder than it already is.
“Who.. are you? What do you want from me?” You questioned the assassin, your hold on the blade tightened.
“How rude of me not to introduce myself. I am Lucien Lachance, a speaker for the Dark Brotherhood. And you, you are a killer. A taker of life. A harvester of souls. Your work, your death-craft, pleases the Night Mother. And so, I come to you with an offering. An opportunity... to join our rather unique family. So, what do you say?” Lucien proposed awaiting your response as he sat nonchalantly on a nearby chair. Your mind thought for a while, before coming to a final decision.
It doesn’t matter if you joined willingly or not, Lucien will have you regardless. It’s just the former choice will make a lot of the processes easier for you. Besides, he is kind enough to give you the illusion of choice.
Lucien is a selfishly possessive, incredibly manipulative, and an abhorrently controlling yandere to come across. There is simply no escape from him, as he will find any way to wriggle himself into your life.
Assuming you joined of your own will, he will pull every strings he can to get you to be his designated silencer. His and his alone.
It then becomes an unspoken rule between the other members, that you are not to be approached unless they wish to incur Lucien’s wrath. Apart from fear, they respect him due to his esteemed reputation within the organisation. Also, seeing as he was the one responsible for recruiting the majority of them. You are on your own with this one.
On the off chance that the Night Mother becomes a platonic yandere, she will gift you to her trusty Lucien for his everlasting service and to keep you within her sight. At this point, escape is literally impossible. Not only do you have an entire murder cult keeping an eye/s on you, but also an immortal spirit in case you run off far away from their base of operation.
As discussed before, Lucien is a ruthless assassin with high body count and erratic impulses despite how well put together he appears to be. Watching his beloved protégé, either with a minor injury or severe one will set him off to find the perpetrator and make them wish they were never born to begin with. Red with rage. That is all what he is seeing at that moment.
Even though, he comes across as aloof and cold externally. He is beyond terrified internally, especially if you’re bleeding greatly. In moments like these as he tends to your wounds, he soften down and opens up. He is yet ready to let you go to the dreaded father.
After that incident, he will be slightly more mellower than the usual. Taking the time of his day to read and cook with you. Domestic scenarios like the above are a rarity, but it give him the shred of normalcy that he usually lacked.
Lucien will be over the moon, if you asked him to demonstrate more about his teachings and will gladly oblige. To see you idolise him as a mentor figure with those pure eyes of yours pleases him in many ways.
The situation mirrors what has already happened to someone close to him, with the only difference is they perished owing to a prolific illness rather of injuries. If he has to contain you in his fort to ensure that the same fate does not repeat to you, then so be it.
Any misbehaviours will be met with looming threats of hunting your remaining relatives and friends down, that is if he hadn’t already done it. Lucien may not kill you, because of his fervent obsession with you. However, that privilege certainly doesn’t extend to others.
As a veteran assassin and a torture specialist, Lucien is rather exploitative of any fear you show and will use it against you. This way you will learn to answer to his authority without a question. After all he has your “best interest” in mind, in spite of his brutal methodology.
Nyctophobia? Claustrophobia? It’s a shame, isn’t it? That the quarters you’re held in lacks any light sources and are quite tight too. Acrophobia? Your throat will be sore from all the screaming and hyperventilating to be let down.
Now if you didn’t come willingly, then bold of you to assume that he will stop. If anything, he becomes more unfettered in his means of “collecting” you. It’s a Morton’s fork scenario, where either of contradictory choices will lead to the same conclusion. (In this case, whether you agreed or not.)
Lucien ensures that you feel his presence, but not see him directly. To instill a sense of dread and paranoia within you. He will play with you for a while, until he gets bored. It’s similar to how a predator plays with it’s prey, before devouring them.
Occasionally, he brings you “gifts”from his work. After all, it is only fair for the one who enraptured his cold heart to get one. A fresh beating heart and a decayed head on the side of your wooden table, akin to how cats bring dead mice to their owners.
Your plea of help is utterly useless, as no one is truly foolish nor will they risk their necks to cross the Dark Brotherhood. Let alone go against a higher ranking member. The same organisation that made it a tradition to slay emperors. The mere mention of them strike fear in the hearts of guards and bystanders alike.
However, there is a sliver of hope if you happen to come in contact with Morag Tong. However, do not put high hopes on them. The best they can do is delay him for a couple of days- at their best, otherwise it’s few hours- giving you the opportunity to relocate elsewhere. The tell tale signs that he has happened by is the heap of assassins’ carcasses atop of each other and the place is drenched entirely in dark crimson.
Dark brotherhood has sanctuaries in major cities, so he would definitely know where you are by communicating with the leaders of other sanctuaries. No matter where you run off and hide, he will most likely find and drag you back by your ankles if he has to.
Better start praying to the nine divines, once you hear the whispers of wind in calm nights and the crunches of leaves outside of your home. For the last thing you’ll be seeing is a grin of a hungered man, before your sight is embraced by the vastness of the dark.
“I wouldn’t have resorted to such drastic measures, if you had come of your own accord. After all, your…talents should not go waste to the servitude of the unworthy. Your place is beside me under the guidance of Sithis. You may not see it as of now, but soon will. I will make sure of that.”

for some reason I distinctly remember trying to kill ungolim in a kiss before dying in oblivion and going "this is too fucking hard, I'm gonna get around to it later" after having to reload 4 times. anyway this is weird because I don't remember playing any of the other quests after the purification
