Hello friend! A friend of mine is doing a Stargate SG-1 rewatch and lamenting the slim pickings of fic on AO3. Do you know where she can find fic that perhaps is still on some old archive of yore? Or have any recs? She's mostly interested in Jack/Daniel and Jack/Sam. Ty!!

oh my. with all the love in the world to your friend visiting us from a very different fandom tax bracket than i have ever had the fortune to participate in (those two pairings have well over 6k fics each on ao3), i'll see what i can do!

[several hours of looking around later] bad news!! not much!

most of vintage sg-1 fandom was wiped out by expired domains, struck-through livejournals, ff.net's porn ban, yahoo lists, etc. some pages are still preserved in the wayback machine for heliopolis, the massive het-and-gen archive, and area52, the slash counterpart, but with the search and directory functions pretty much toast, they're almost impossible to navigate.

fanlore has an old list of archives (including plenty of jack/daniel ones). some smaller archives might yield wayback paydirt, especially if they were hand-coded. samandjack.net is still alive!

and, hate to say it, this was peak era for ff.net and they have like 30k fics over there... but all the explicit fic is gone.

i recently learned some people are still doing het-reccers (user-submitted fanfic recommendations, LJ archive is here). i don't know if any slash equivalents are still around (and i haven't looked at this site for genuinely fifteen years, so i can't speak to the quality of recs).

some sam/jack recs of mine; some of these authors multi-ship:

nanda: her resolution series especially should not be missed and i can't stress that enough. smut and action. fics great fics across the board.

it's kind of difficult to express how popular Salr323's fics were (under a different name) back in the day. i'm told that archive servers would crash when she posted something new. low on smut, high on PINING. rec: it was admittedly 1 am but as i recall this one made me feel like i'd just seen the fanfiction mona lisa

there are quite a few multifandom wonders who cut their teeth in this fandom, including missparker (rec: a small crime)

this cassandra fraiser fic dealt me some damage: nobody dies tonight by isawet

someone who's still in touch with her please harass splash_the_cat for writing 99 sg-1 fics and then walking away without cracking 100. lots of fun little snacks in there including this one

PRE-2.) What was their first impression of each other?

“Pfft. Ashi was soooo boring at first— Always ‘Don’t mess around!’ or ‘Riddle’ll have your head for that!’”

Ace found Ashi too similar to Riddle for him 😭😭 which TBH was an exaggeration

he found that she was a party pooper because she would always warn him before he did something stupid, but she was really fun to tease which made up for it <33

Ace and Ashi’s first kiss (a kiss on the forehead) happened during Book 5, in the practice room <3 Everyone had gone out in the period where Deuce and Epel left, leaving the two of them alone 😳😳During this while they were doodling in Ashi’s notebook together, she happened to fall asleep on Ace and he just kinda. sat there like 😳

Answering my own questions!

So I made this post awhile ago and only a few people participated and asked me things and since i love letting my moots get to know me and I found those questions fun, I decided to answer them myself! ^^ /all pos (Ty to those who gave me asks, absolutely no hate/negativity to those who didnt!! /gen) Go check out the original post for the questions I will be answering in THIS post :3

•Therianthropy based in questions: 🥥= Ok, since the answer to this question could go on FOREVER (and I’ve made post about childhood experiences before) I’ll just share one that I haven’t had a post / post idea to fit it in! I used to make tiny, dark, and cozy little dens in my living room or room literally all the time. It would be something simple w/ blankets and pillows but it was SO nice!

🐚= I like this question! My first theriotype I had mistaken was a Lunar Moth! The others were cougar, cheetah, Australian shepherd and Harpy Eagle! (I hadn’t really confirmed Harpy Eagle but I so frickin’ close to confirming it I just considered it a theriotype)

🌴=I awakened Oct. 2nd, 2023, On my friend’s bday :3 Not really sure how to explain HOW I awakened, so might be a story for another time

🪸=The first theriotypes I confirmed were Gray Wolf, Calico cat and Coyote! 🫧= already answered! see it here

🌊= If I could physically like shapeshift into one theriotype forever it’d probably be a cat or one of my wolf theriotypes! This is a hard one to answer tbh :,3

💐= my most unusual piece of gear is probably some lunar moth wings I got for Christmas when I thought Lunar moth was one of my theriotypes! I know use them as bat wings :3

🌺= My friends, my half-sister and (i think) my parents know of my bisexuality, I don’t believe anyone knows of my they/them pronouns, and I believe only one friend knows of my alterhumanity but I think they forgot

Special Counsel Durham Fails Again

LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), Oct. 20, 2022.--Special Counsel John Durhram (R-Conn.), 72, lost another case in trial, this time with 44-year-old Igor Danchenko accused to lying to FBI agents about his role in feeding former British MI6 Agent Christopher Steele fake information about 76-year-old former President Donald Trump’s alleged ties to the Kremlin. Durham was commissioned in Dec. 2020 by 72-year-old former Atty. Gen. Bill Barr. Barr wanted Durham to investigate the Russian Hoax, a five-year witch-hunt to tie Trump to the Kremlin to discredit his 2016 presidential campaign. Danchenko gave Steele fake information about Trump’s alleged ties to prostitutes in Moscow, something former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton gladly used to discredit Trump’s 2016 campaign. When the dust settled Nov. 3, 2016, Trump has won the presidency over what looked like one of the great political hoaxes in U.S. history.

Durham’s latest failure in federal court was touted by U.S. media organizations as the death knell to his over two-year investigation. New York Times, Washington Post and Associated Press [AP] all proclaimed Durham’s work a failure, proving that the years of fraudulent news stories tying Trump to the Kremlin was the epitome of fake news. Barr understood but couldn’t prosecute any of the Obama administration players that participated in the Russian Hoax against Trump. Former President Barrack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, former Atty. Gen. Loretta Lynch, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, former, former Deputy Atty. Gen. Sally Yates, former Deputy Atty. Gen. Rod Rosenstein, former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan all participated in the conspiracy to frame Trump as a Russian asset during the 2016 campaign and his presidency.

Brennan and Comey readily participated in the conspiracy after given Hillary’s Steele Dossier by the late Sen. John McCain (R-Az.), fabricating claims about Trump’s ties to Putin and the Kremlin. It didn’t matter in the summer of 2016 whether the Steele Dossier was considered fake or not. All that counted were fake charges against Trump that he was part of wider conspiracy to steal the 2016 presidential election. McCain, a known enemy of Trump, Comey gladly handed the Steele Dossier to Brennan and Comey. McCain would have done anything, like Hillary, to prevent Trump from becoming president. All three conspired to concoct a counterintelligence investigation into Trump accusing him and his foreign policy aid Carter Page of conspiring with Russia. Comey went to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act [FISA] court to claim he needed a warrant to wiretap Page’s phone.

Comey’s affidavit to the FISA court omitted the fact that Page worked previously for the CIA. Former FISA Court chief justice Rosemary Collyer said if she knew Carter worked for the Agency, she would have never granted the warrant. Comey’s rogue investigation into Trump’s alleged ties to Moscow was never questioned by anyone, especially those that knew that Hillary’s Steele Dossier was total fabrication. Steele was forced to admit in open court that there were no underlying sources because he deliberately deleted all the source files to the dossier. So, the longstanding fraud approved by Obama and Biden, run through the Department of Justice, FBI, CIA and NSA, was widely reported by the U.S. media as factual. So now that Durham failed again to get any traction in federal court, the fake news claims victory. It’s not victory when the U.S. press participates in the Russian hoax.

No one was more guilty of conspiracy than 62-yar-old former FBI Director James Comey, who acted clueless and dumbfounded when Barr accused him April 10, 2019 of spying on the Trump campaign. Opening up a counterintelligence investigation based on the fake Steele Dossier, Barr wanted, as his last act as attorney general, to appoint Durham as Special Counsel to get to the bottom of the fake investigation into Trump’s alleged ties to Russia. When Trump fired Comey May 8, 2017, Democrats and the fake news went crazy, pressuring Deputy Atty. Gen. Rod Rosenstein to appoint 77-year-old former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel. Democrats saw the Russian hoax and Mueller investigation as their best way of getting rid of Trump. All House Democrats, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), believed the Steele Dossier.

All the euphoria in the U.S. press is completely misguided, recognizing they played an integral role in promoting the Russian Hoax. No a single story written by the New York Times, Washington Post and reported nightly on major TV and cable networks had a shred of validity, all promoting the fake Steele Dossier against Trump like the bible. Rep. Adam Schiff, even after Mueller concluded his 22-month, $40 million probe saying there was no criminal conspiracy with Trump or his campaign, insisted he had all the facts necessary to prove Trump was a Russian asset. House and Senate Democrats today still believe Trump worked with the Kremlin to get elected in 2016. Democrats and the U.S. press used the Steele Dossier knowing it was completely fake. Steele came closest to admitting as much in a civil trial in 2019. Yet Democrats and the media rejoice Durham’s failures.

You know I like to create a challenge inspired by the number of followers for the milestone, so I’ve come up with one centred around the 7 days of the week!

How to Play:

Below you’ll find a list of ten prompts for every day of the week. Each day has a different theme.

When the door behind Mingjue opened, it was all Wen Qing could do not to sigh. They'd already been going over this contract for hours - this wasn't even their first call working on it - but they'd been interrupted three times already by phone calls and each time it had completely thrown them off-task. She just wanted this done so she could finish her work day in peace before she had to start thinking about dinner.

"Ah," Mingjue said, "excuse me a moment, would you?"

"Of course," Wen Qing said, through gritted teeth, because it was easier in the long run to be polite in the short term.

Mingjue grinned - and she did not stare at his dimples - and then leaned in, squinting at the screen as he clicked to mute his feed. Wen Qing looked back to her spreadsheet... and then froze, as they began to speak.

"So that's her, huh?" Mingjue's little brother said.

"If by 'her' you mean my respected colleague, yes."

"Excuse me," Wen Qing said, "it looks like you missed the mute button."

They didn't respond - neither looked toward her. She frowned, and brought up the 'participants' panel, and saw that Mingjue had in fact muted her by mistake.

"You know that isn't what I meant, dage. I mean... is that her, the one you have a crush on?"

And then, very deliberately, Huaisang looked at her over Mingjue's shoulder. It wasn't for long, but he made eye contact, and she knew that he knew. He didn't mention it.

"Don't be ridiculous," Mingjue snapped, and Huaisang laughed.

"What, so you were talking about someone else being brilliant, and beautiful, and mean but in a hot way?"

"Hey!" Wen Qing protested. "I'm not mean!"

They didn't hear her, of course. Huaisang now was making a point of not looking at her, not drawing Mingjue's attention to his computer. She clicked into the chat and sent him a message, and then another, but he still didn't look around.

"Okay, none of that was what I said," Mingjue said. "What I said was that she was - was intense. And she makes an argument compelling, and she's... efficient. She's very good at her work. Stop trying to twist it!"

Wen Qing blushed. Huaisang's compliments had been clearly exaggerated, but hearing Mingjue say nice things about her was... a little devastating, actually. On a purely professional level, of course. He was her respected colleague: dedicated to his work, supportive of his juniors, broad-shouldered - no, no, she wasn't objectifying him she was respecting him. Him and his work ethic and his foundational skills and his mustache...

"Oh, I'm not twisting anything. Just trying to keep you honest, dage."

She should have ended the call. Wen Qing knew that she was basically eavesdropping at this point, no matter whose the initial mistake had been. It wasn't fair to Mingjue that she keep listening in.

"I'll keep you honest," Mingjue muttered. "I'll keep you honest upside the head."

Huaisang laughed and waved off the threat like it was nothing.

"Fine, fine," he said, as he went. "I'll leave, if you're so desperate to get back to work."

"Don't you have someone else to pester?" Mingjue said, and then he turned back to face the computer and Wen Qing froze with her cursor over the 'end call' button. She knew her cheeks were red; he couldn't know why though, right?

She held her breath as he frowned at his screen and un-muted her.

"Sorry about that," he said.

"No, that's fine," Wen Qing assured him - and then, before she could think better of it, she continued. "Let's get this done, I'm sick of the sight of spreadsheets. And - maybe after, we should. Get a drink? To celebrate."

Mingjue stared at her, and a blush to match hers spread over his cheeks, and then he grinned.

"Yeah," he said. "Why not? I think we've earned it."

1. tbh i don’t really participate in fandom type things. Where I see controversy I turn right back around. I truly just write/post my little fics and only interact with a small circle of friends I’ve met on here. There are always going to be complaints about what people ship and don’t ship and it’s all really dumb to me–maybe because I’m older than a good majority of the fandom. I don’t know but everyone I’ve met is nice and accepting.

Part 5 - Kesan

The room grew incredibly and uncomfortable quiet as soon as the Doctor left and Kayo idly fingered the gold band that encircled her ring finger.

Of all the things she could have done and had done; keeping things from Virgil was one that she hadn’t actively participated in since becoming a couple. Total transparency had been one of the fundamental elements of their relationship.

Sure they sometimes kept things to themselves for a bit until they could process but they always went to each other to discuss whatever was bothering them. And here she was going against one of the main tenants they’d built their whole life together on. All due to fear of worrying him unnecessarily.

She’d fallen back on old habits that she’d sworn she wouldn’t ever resort to again. Holding stuff back from her family had only resulted in unnecessary pain and mistrust. Though none of the brothers would admit that trust had been lost, she knew there had been some that had slipped out of her reach.

Looking at the heavy boots of her lover and confidant Kayo couldn’t figure out where to start to repair the damage she had done. Probably leading with an apology would be the best bet but she wasn’t sure if Virgil was ready to hear her.

She forced her mouth to move and head to rise. She was a Kyrano, damn it and she would face this mess head on just like she’d be taught all those years ago.

“Virgil…”

He held a hand up and stepped up to her side, taking her elbow to help her to her feet. “I don’t want to discuss it right now. We need to get you home and in bed before our security detail has kittens. We’ve been here long enough.”

God, that hurt.

Getting her feet under her, she leaned into her husband and pushed to her feet. Wobbling a bit as the room fogged out a bit around the edges.

Virgil sighed, steadied her and in an easy movement of one used to carting people’s broken bodies around he scooped her up into his arms as if she weighed no more than a feather.

Kayo, thanked him and he shrugged it off as he stepped through the door to the ensuite bathroom and set her down on the toilet.

“Do you want me to stay or…?” He asked, looking around the small space and poking at the shower controls.

Kayo contemplated her options but she really didn’t want to be alone with her thoughts right now. As much as it pained her to have to see the hurt shadowing her husband’s eyes she didn’t trust herself to be able to keep her feet firmly under her.

“Stay...please.”

Virgil gave a curt nod and rolled up his sleeves, the corded muscles of his forearms flexing as he folded the fabric out of the way. “Shower?” He questioned, bobbing his head in the direction of the open faced enclosure.

“Please.”

He turned his broad back and started to fiddle with the controls. Adjusting the temperature and pressure settings until he was satisfied.

Kayo took a moment to look around the tiled space. It was tastefully decorated but completely functional. A full length mirror took up one wall to help dispel any claustrophobia. The colours were all warm toned and pleasing patterns. The lines; all clean and easy to maintain but with an air of elegance.

There was a charming framed print just inside the door out of the way of any of the mandatory grab bars and emergency assistance buttons. Though as she inspected it she wasn’t so sure it was a print…

Basically the place was designed to comfort those that could afford it with no expense spared. The tile flooring beneath her bare feet was even heated and it spoke to how adequately financed the hospital was.

Probably helped that Tracy Industries had made various large donations over the years… not that the general public knew that.

Wishing to break the uncomfortable silence, she pointed to the painting. “Is that real?”

Virgil stole a quick look at it before pursing his lips and nonchalantly shrugging. “Yes, though not one of that artist’s better known work or best for that matter.”

Reaching over her head, he plucked a towel off a wooden linen shelf and set it on the counter before taking her arm and guiding her back to her feet.

“All set. You read to go?”

She indicated that she was and Virgil pulled the ties of her johnny loose and slipped it from her arms.

“Do you need the …?”He indicated the toilet and she shook her head.

“I’m fine, I just want to clean up and get out of here.”

Kneeling down he made quick work of her undergarments, throwing away anything that needed disposing off quickly and efficiently. His own medical training and detachment to what he saw taking firm hold over his emotions.

“I second that notion..” He mumbled leading her over to shower. He eyed the stall a moment, seemed to decide something and shucked his own clothing to step in behind her.

“One can never be too clean.” He commented off handedly, bracing her with his strong hands on her slender hips.

The water was just the right temperature and she couldn’t resist moaning as it hit her skin. Warm water cascaded down and washed away the evidence of the day, circled around her feet and down the drain and she tried to watch it in a detached way.

Feeling her resolve to keep it together starting to shatter she reached for the soap but Virgil beat her too it. Taking the bar between his hands he lathered it up and started the process of cleaning her. He was meticulous, soaping up every inch of her from her toes to her thighs and back down again.

There was nothing sexual to it, just caring determination that she had a hard time processing considering the wound she had inflicted.

Looking anywhere but at her husband and she tried to contain herself but it was a losing battle and she didn’t think she had the energy reserves to keep up the front.

Virgil pressing up against her back and kissing the crown of her head was her undoing. It was as if he had sensed her teetering and he knew exactly what she needed.

The unwanted tears she’d been holding back finally escaped down her cheeks and she sagged against him, his arms encircling her waist and pulling her close.

“I’m so sorry.” She whimpered and he held on tight while she cried into the shower.

An incoming message pinged as a chipped cup was raised to thin lips.

Eyes of an unnatural chartreuse, flashed a malcontent yellow. Bionics rings that lined one iris glowing dangerously bright as a flare of anger sparked to life.

Narrow lips pulled back in a snarl of disgust and his cup was sent sailing. Blistering tea splashing in a blood like spray across a stained wall and dripping on to the floor to mix with putrid waste that littered the illegal café.

The burned out grunt manning the counter bulked in retaliation at the adverse display of destruction. Stepping around the counter with the intent of confronting the offender.

Malice filled eyes turned to him and all thoughts of bravery fled. The narcotics devotee just barely this side of sober latching onto his instinctual response of self preservation that the evil before him threatened.

Like the cockroach he was, scabby skinned and oily he scampered away, hands up in a weak display of surrender. Slinking back behind his offensive counter; a feeble block of dry rot and duct tape placed between him and the cloud of disrepute that encompassed the back corner of the store.

Snarling teeth ground and gnashed in hatred and the long, clean agile fingers that protruded from tatted fingerless gloves threw up a dark web portal beside the offending information.

Orders sent were blunt; concise and decidedly wicked. A plan was forming and the evil snarl turned up into an unholy grin. More information would be needed. It was always needed but the source this time could be one of his own making and his pawns would fall into place.

After many years of trying, a solution and an end appeared to finally be within sight.

The light of the console before him flickered and changed as coded responses started to scroll by. Looking up across the so-called establishment to the waste of skin and bone shivering behind the counter, he pushed from his station and stood...

a boomer: kids these days/millennials these days just don’t know how to stay together forever anymore??? and they also don’t know how much better “staying together for the kids” is??? they don’t know what commitment MEANS anymore. why is no one getting married???? or why are millennials staying in relationships and not tying the knot like everyone should???

millennials: uh some of us do the whole “staying together forever” thing when we DO get married. but most of us aren’t getting married to our “high school or college sweethearts” or our “soulmates” mostly because we’ve acknowledged that we no longer gel with the person that we’ve known for many years, and dated for let’s say maybe 4 years (uni/college sweethearts) at minimum or a 7 year maximum, possibly (high school sweethearts)....

but through the personal and couple growth of our 20s; some of us realise that we no longer fit with our partner and so we agree to break it off (if we’re in a healthy and respectful relationship that is). why stay together with someone that you’ve grown so far apart from?? and especially if you have vastly different views and goals in life to your partner.

if we have kids, maybe some of us will “stay together for the kids”.... but if we’re in an unhealthy or an abusive relationship; we might just have to leave our partner and take the kids out of harms way (although this will take a fair amount of time actually).

or maybe it could be a mutual agreement between the couple (which is nobody’s fucking business but theirs) that they split amicably bc it’s healthier that they live apart even though they have kids???? like i don’t fucking know people’s living and relationship arrangements and agreements/disagreements. and neither should you, tbqfh.

we do know what commitment means, thanks. but with the cost of the standard wedding with an ample amount of guests say like 300 (obvs before the pandemic) and with a decent venue etc etc etc; weddings costing up towards like $36,000 (????, in australia) what goddamn millennial has THAT type of fucking money??? when we’re paying off student loans close to that price anyway (for a double degree, or a degree in an expensive field, or maybe a postgrad degree or whatever)???? like you’re fucking kidding us right??? and that doesn’t even cover the cost of a good engagement or wedding ring- where you’re looking at a good at the most $1,700 ring or at the least maybe $850 for a cheap ring from a decent & reputable jeweller.

like obvs you can do weddings on the cheap... but with pressure from parents/friends or instagram or pinterest or wedding game shows or ~bitter, bitchy and catty female one upmanship~; some couples may overspend their budget extensively and might be paying off an incredibly expensive wedding that they feel like they didn’t really need at all- as it was really truly thrown for their GUESTS (family & friends) and not really THEMSELVES.

and a couples decision whether they want to get married or not is, again, nobodies motherfucking business but their own??? why the fuck do you have to be so nosy??? maybe living together as a de facto couple or whatever for life works better for most people??? especially again, like stated above, when the median price for DECENT weddings is literally an arm and a fucking leg??? why go into a lifelong union already shouldered with a load of fucking debt????

also. moreover, on the topic of weddings and stuff; do you know like 999% of the planning etc ALL FALLS on women??? and then the media have the goddamned AUDACITY to paint women as “bridezilla princesses 👑👑!!! when something isn’t done exactly right for them... when in reality, they’re the one burdened with all the BULLSHIT about flowers and food and clothes and guests, wedding invite design, the all important cake, her hen’s night... the list goes on and on. while the guy gets to do fuck all basically, except for getting his suit fitted and having his stag’s night.

hell, when i used to watch wedding planning etc shows; i remember that nearly half the contestants (for a competitive one)/participants broke up say like 3 months after their episode aired; because they realised through doing those shows that they were never a good match in the first place.... but it took either national or international tv broadcast embarrassment, nosing into their relationship dynamic/business, for them to realise it.

and speaking of those wedding comp/planning shows and even shows like “the bachelor/bachelorette”.... for me, it’s what made me so cynical of love/relationships and weddings altogether. because how often or long do those couples stay together??? like maybe tops 2 years if they were a bachelor/bachelorette winner or when they’ve won a show like “the farmer wants a wife” (an aussie dating/wedding show that focuses on rural farmers obvs). or “married at first sight/MAFS” (🤮🤮). and they don’t stay together often. hell, most of them breakup on the show or straight after the show airs/stops filming. like ugh. how do you expect millennials to be so trusting of love and relationships when they’re literally BOMBARDED with bullshit shows that take the absolute trivial piss on relationships both figuratively and literally????

honestly fuck these shows and fuck the boomer (and probably gen X) tv execs for pitching and producing them... and then getting pissy at millennials for having “commitment issues” and “never getting married” et al. also fuck you for thinking that people’s relationships and how they navigate them is entirely all of your business; when these issues are literally fucking not your business at all.

And now some personal words below about the challenge behind the cut...

First off I want to give kudos to everyone who participated with me (and those of us still going!) on this challenge, it was great fun reading new writing from mutuals and seeing reblogs of people’s work. I also want to give a shout out and thank you to @gatheredfates, the one who proposed this challenge and picked all the word prompts. I found the prompts chosen for this to be a lot of fun, with ample amounts of challenge as well as having lots of potential for all kinds of writing ideas. Thanks so much!

Second, I want to say that this very much felt different than the FFXIVWrite in that it was very spur of the moment, and I also felt more at liberty in exploring some ideas and characters I hadn’t really focused on in a while. The goals were not post lengths/word counts or really pushing my technical skills for these entries as I try to do for FFXIVWrite, rather...I just wrote whatever it was that I wanted. Fluff reigned supreme during this challenge, and that really isn’t the norm in my writing. And while I did do some introspective pieces, as well as the usual gen. type of topics, I’m glad I just let myself be a silly booboo about writing some of my favorite shippy nonsense. Because with how life is at the moment I desperately needed something lighthearted and sweet (and I think some of you can agree on that too!). Big TY to @aethernoise for letting me borrow her characters as always, and to @kukurubean because Ahlis invading Rothe’s kitchen will never not be entertaining to me ;)

And thirdly, I definitely see myself returning to some of these ideas in the future for possible longer pieces. A number of these prompts have taken root for ideas of scenes and topics I’ve had sitting in my head for a while, waiting around to be used. Don’t be surprised if I tackle them again at some point, haha!

Overall I am pleased with how I did, and I am hoping to take this energy I’ve kept going throughout May into June where I am still going to work on my next piece for 5.2 writing. That part is I want to say ~50% done but still needs tweaking on top of getting that other half written out, lol.

My Creative Year in Review 2018

Total number of creations? (Or a rough guess!)

50,537 words in 12 stories (6 individual stories and a 6-part series of stand-alone stories tying into a larger arc)

All of my posted works were for Star Trek: Discovery, although I did put quite a bit of work into a Crimson Peak fic that never went anywhere. I also wrote my first series this year as part of my Halloween challenge with teagrl (“It’s the Big Mushroom, Charlie Brown”).

What characters or ships have you created the most content for this year?

Paul Stamets/Hugh Culber: 17,037 words (4 stories)

Gen: 14,284 words (4 stories, including two parts of the series, which is Paul/Hugh overall)

Sylvia Tilly/Ash Tyler: 7,972 words (1 story)

Michael Burnham/Sylvia Tilly: 5,856 (1 story)

Michael Burnham/Ash Tyler: 5,424 words (2 stories)

Was there a project that you didn’t get around to?

This is about WIPs, isn’t it? I have 5 WIPs with a word count of 18k total. 4 of them I’d really like to see come to fruition. Additionally, teagrl and I collaborated on a post-S1 Disco AU in early summer, which I liked a lot. We wrote 3 chapters with over 15k, and it would be a shame to just have it languish on gdocs.

What was the creation you had the most fun making?

I really enjoyed doing the Halloween challenge. Usually, I post characterization-heavy stuff (porn or one-scene snapshots), and this allowed me to write plot, but in a contained way. I also got to try out several things I’ve never done before: a fight scene, a Klingon sonnet, multiple POVs for one scene, and creating some spooky and gothic settings.

Any surprises? (E.g. a character or ship you never thought you’d create for or a project that came out of nowhere?)

I’m surprised I wrote so much gen! I’m a shipper at heart, but this year, I’ve been more interested in exploring plottier writing, so that’s where that comes from, I guess. I also posted the fewest words for my favorite ship (Michael/Ash), but I suspect that’s due to a) the Halloween challenge being Paul POV and b) the fact that I have several Michael/Ash WIPs.

What was the hardest creation to make?

There’s always a lot of hand-wringing involved for me, but because In Time is about Paul being trapped inside the minds of Hugh and Ash Tyler, experiencing their thoughts and emotions without a way to change their actions, I had trouble figuring out how to make that work. Teagirl had some valuable insights that made me rewrite considerably, and I’m happy with how it turned out.

What inspired you the most this year?

Finding a new fandom after six years, talking fandom and writing with teagrl and the dynamics between Michael Burnham and Ash Tyler on Discovery. They’re fantastically layered and complex characters that make me want to explore matters of identity, nature vs. nurture, free will, sacrifice and many more interesting themes and concepts.

What are you most proud of? (A creation, something you learned, etc)

Having written (and finished) my first series. Writing something with a gothic vibe in a modern setting (The Hollow Serpent and, to a certain extent, All Seas Lead Me Back To You is a riff on ghost ship stories)

Any goals/plans/ideas for next year?

Finish 2 of my WIPs: 1) Michael and Ash meet one year post-s1 at a Federation function (based on a piece of art I commissioned, mostly identity porn with a focus on porn, currently at 4k) 2) Michael-centric fic where she obsesses over changing the past to save Philippa/prevent the war, set post-s1, inspired by ideas from the TV shows Fringe and Total Recall 2070 (currently at 3k)

Have another crack at that collaboration with teagrl

Write 1 episode reaction fic (before the next episode airs)

Write that remix of one of teagrl’s stories

Participate in 3 challenges

I got the most beautiful feedback on “A Prison of Her Own Design”, my second fic in this fandom, from @onaperduamedee and it was really inspiring and humbling (gen, 699 words)

My favorite retelling of a canon scene is in “Beneath the Armor”, when Michael ruminates on how her Terran uniform influences how she feels and acts. The sex is also pretty hot, if I do say so myself.

A Great View of the Ocean came together fairly quickly (8k in 8 days), and after thinking and writing about a lot of heavy stuff, it was just a fun, sexy romp for academy days Tilly/Tyler.
