A basic starter project if you want to start growing your own food but have no money & no experience, assuming you like perilla/shiso, basil, mint, sage, or other herbs that have a square stem*.

1. Get a stem or five**, and pluck all the leaves off, except for the smallest. I worked with perilla/shiso this time, and started them in water, but often you can start them straight into soil. Here's one that's started to root in water:

2. Prepare your container. Someone I know had an excess of water jugs, so I cut it in half, poked a few holes in what was the top half, and then put it upside down inside of the bottom half. Ta-da, pot with drainage & saucer:

Be careful, obviously, because hurting yourself makes this go from a free project to a possibly rather expensive one. Soil can gotten for free, see the green onion version for more info on that.

3. Carefully make holes and plant your cuttings. I put a bag over the top to help increase humidity, because basil and perilla both seem a little fussy.

4. Put in the brightest light you have, and keep the soil evenly moist until you see new growth. These I'm starting inside but with the intention to plant outside in the summer. Obligatory check what's invasive in your area because someone told me perilla was invasive where they live. It's very much not here, it dies with the frost and I haven't gotten it to self-sow.

Tips:

Basil and perilla like it warm (above 50f/10c) and are best started indoors. Rosemary, sage, mint, etc, I've found easy to start outdoors. Keep shaded, moist, and cool until well established.

*for a fun project, look up how many culinary herbs are in the mint family! Lamiaceae will haunt your dreams!

** the first time I tried this, it was a stem of basil from take out, and I was so excited that it worked.

“On the table,” Mr. Bakeman demanded. Jesse felt a shudder roll through his body before he complied, laying flat on his back, hands next to his side.

He felt the small crowd close in around him, watching hungrily. He closed his eyes, chest shuddering with terrified breaths.

“Oh, Brian,” a woman breathed. “He’s so… Can we take his clothes off?”

Jesse’s eyes shot open, finding his master and begging with all he had without speaking. Mr. Bakeman just smiled, arm wrapped around the woman. Jesse had seen her around the house before, in little shorts and and wearing shirts as dresses. He didn’t like the way she looked at him.

A few of the party guests put their hands on him, pulling up his shirt and down his pants. He squirmed helplessly on the table, tears pooling his his eyes and whimpers escaping his chest. Jesse squeezed his hands into tight fists as a hand hooked on the waistband of his boxers --

No no no no no no --

“That’s enough,” Mr. Bakeman said.

Jesse felt his muscles relax in short lived relief. The woman’s face fell, Mr. Bakeman’s grip on her tightening. He didn’t do it for Jesse. He did it so his girlfriend wouldn’t get too excited. Still, Jesse was very thankful.

It didn’t last long.

“On your stomach.”

Jesse tried to not look at the guests as he obeyed. His arms shook underneath him, shoulders hunched and tense.

“Can we tie him down?” a man asked.

Jesse didn’t even bother to hope it wouldn’t happen, closing his eyes and dropping his forehead on the table.

Four ties were removed from shirt collars and wrapped crudely around each ankle and wrist, tying him spread eagle on the table. Tears burned behind his closed eyes, jaw trembling. He knew just how vulnerable he was in that position, and just because he was allowed his boxers on, he knew that wouldn't stop this horrible group from doing what he dreaded most.

Just please please don’t do that -- not so many people. Not in front of everyone. Please please please please…

He was so lost in his thoughts that he was taken by complete surprise when the knife slowly sliced along his calf. He cried out, arms straining against the makeshift restraints. “Ahhgg! AH!”

The guests laughed, a couple even clapping their hands.

“He sounds amazing,” Mr. Bakeman’s girlfriend breathed. Jesse was pretty sure her name was Candy or Destiny or something. “Let me go.”

Jesse braced himself, closing his eyes again. He imagined raising his arm and twisting his collar around. One, two, three, four. One, two --

“AGHHH!”

His girlfriend clearly did not hold the self control Mr. Bakeman had when it came to knives. She seemed to have no idea how hard or deep she was cutting into Jesse’s thigh. She removed it and stabbed him again, further up.

Could she hit his femoral artery? No. Maybe? Would Jesse just bleed out then and there, facedown and half-naked on a table in front of a group of strangers? His heart picked up even faster. Who knew what they would do to his body is he died in front of them. Or while he was dying, terrified and paralyzed. What would the girls think? What would Mr. Bakeman tell them.

Stop it please!

“Okay, Charity, dear. That’s enough.”

The blade briefly dug in deeper before disappearing. Jesse gave a shuddering gasp, tears dropping steadily onto the table.

Some twisted part of him hoped he’d get cut again, just to make it even.

May I request angst headcanons for the toon patrol when their s/o recently passed away?

My first Disney villain ask. I honestly didn't expect my first Disney villain ask to be for the Toon Patrol. This should be fun ^^ I hope you enjoy, I'm a bit nervous since I'm still trying to flesh out their personalities in my head.

(I'm very sorry this took so long, so much has been going on since this ask was sent, alot of it personal, and i simply had no inspiration.)

~Smarty~

He knew the consequences of dating a human and he dreaded the day that his S/O would pass away, especially with how fragile humans are compared to toons. So he'll be as protective of them as possible, not wanting their their death day to come sooner rather than later. If they are a toon though, he'll feel more secure that they won't die. There's no need to be afraid of their death. Sure they could get hurt, but they wouldn't get really hurt like a human would. As such, Smarty would be more relaxed (though still protective).

But by the time they died, through natural causes or... Otherwise, he still wasn't ready for them to go, especially if they were a toon. He tried to be strong, at least for them, however once they let out their final breath, he'll break down. He refuses to show his more vulnerable emotions in front of others, so his sorrow will translate into rage if he's around people, especially strangers.

For awhile, he'll try to keep the tough persona on. But anyone who knows him, like his teammates, will know that the death really had affected him. He'll be less snarky, and would become more cold. And if his S/O died due to unnatural causes, he wouldn't stop until he found the one who did the deed.

~Wheezy~

Like Smarty, he's prepared for his S/O to die some day. So he tries to mentally prepare himself for their not so special day. Though if they are a toon, Wheezy is absolutely not prepared for his S/O to die. He's certain they'll both be ok in the end and thus would not be prepared if he found out what happened.

On the day, depending on how the S/O died, he won't really show his sorrow. Of course he's heartbroken, but he would try to put on a brave face in front of his S/O so they won't worry about him. The most he would do is hold onto their hand extra tight, he wouldn't shed any tears in front of anyone, or at least he'll try not to. But if his S/O was killed, he wouldn't be able to keep his composure.

His coping mechanism is more smoking- which may seem impossible though I'm certain he'll find a way- and distancing himself more from his friends. It'd almost be like looking at a walking husk, even after he got to find his S/O's killer if they were killed. He'd just feel... Empty.

It takes Wheezy a while to completely comprehend that his S/O is gone. He knows they are, but it doesn't settle in until a later date. When it does though, he'll need alot of time away from the others by himself. He'll cry, smoke emotionally, wonder what he could have done to prevent them from getting dipped, etc. By the time he rejoins his group, he'll seem pretty out of it for awhile.

~Greasy~

He was caught off guard when not only you reciprocated his attraction, but your relationship blossomed into something more than just acquaintances with benefits. Toon or human. So I imagine he'd probably be pretty protective of his lover, not wanting to lose someone so special.

He is aware that his S/O will die eventually, and that spurs him to make everyday special in some way. Taking them out on nights in the town, letting them know how beautiful they are everyday, etc. If his lover is a toon however, it doesn't quite occur to him that they can still be killed by dip. Even though he and his gang are in charge of making it for Judge Doom. It doesn't occur to him that maybe someone else could get their hands on dip, or an accident could happen.

When they're gone, he'll barely be able it keep it together. May even have to leave the room for a moment to compose himself. Some nights he'll stay in, but other nights he'll go out and try to fill the empty void in his heart, it really depends. And this will go on for some time. Though one thing is for certain, he'll be focusing all his attention on finding his S/O's killer if they didn't pass naturally.

~Psycho~

Toon or human, it's hard for Psycho to get emotionally attached to somebody, let alone fall in love. So when he does, his S/O immediately becomes his top priority.

Even so, he never really grasps the fact that they can die, especially if they are a toon. Psycho would just be focus on his S/O in the now, not in the future. He'll still protect them anyway he can, but he won't plan for what happend if/when his S/O does die.

When they do die, he feels... Empty. Lost. He won't shed his tears in front of others, and he'd have a hard time leaving his room as he goes through the phases of grief. He doesn't want to believe it, it would be so tempting to just deny that they are still here with him somewhere. But he can't ignore the fact that they aren't here.

If they died of unnatural causes, he'll dissapear for some time. No warning for his team or anything, he'll just vanish. It won't be until later, when he comes back suddenly with a cruel but satisfied gleam in his eye, do they realize he was on a personal hunting trip.

~Stupid~

Like Psycho, Stupid won't really think about the possibility of his S/O dying. Not only is it unpleasant to think about so he just chooses not to, but he also just wants to focus on being happy with them.

When they do, he can't believe it. He doesn't want to believe it, no matter all the times they don't pick up the phone, or all the times his boss would try to tell him that his S/O is gone forever. He won't be able to stop himself from crying everytime he's reminded, even if his friends try to comfort him. He switches between denying they are gone, to sobbing uncontrollably.

Out of all the rest of the Toon Patrol, he can't even think about getting vengeance if his S/O didn't pass away peacefully. He is angry of course, but he can barely get himself out of bed, how can he possibly think of finding the person responsible now? Luckily for him, he's with four other weasels who watch each other's backs.
