Fair warning, this will contain themes like sacrifices and common dark topics typically expected in 'cult' media. Viewer discretion is advised.
The glow of the moon shone across the endless field of green surrounded by trees as grand as the popularity of a boyband.
The scenery was as beautiful as it was fleeting for not even a second later, it was disrupted by the sight of dull bricks blocking your vision completely.
An exasperated exhale passed your lips before the sound of a sharp inhale left them not a moment after. The scenery was back - and with it.. came the calm sense of serenity that passed over your form, letting you bask in the pleasant feeling.
"Y/N."
Your glossed-over eyes grew clear as your head turned sharply to the right, twinkling gaze meeting with a pair of cerulean eyes that sparkled with amusement.
"Stop looking out the window like some anime protagonist." The remark that left the soft lips of your handsome friend was followed by several chuckles, all of which caused your own lips to twitch up in fondness.
"Leave her alone, Lyle, she can't help her natural protagonist tendencies." Another voice, more feminine than the first, piped up.
You rolled your eyes, unable to hide the smile slowly forming on your face. "Oh shush, you two. I'm sure the rest of us don't want to hear your annoying voices for the rest of this trip."
"Ouch, I'm hurt." The short, brown locks of Lyle swished as his head jerked back in faux despair.
"How could this happen to me-?"
"One more word out of you, Dawn, and I swear to everything alive, I will bash your head in." Another friend of yours, Hannah, scoffed.
Your banter was put to a halt when the vehicle you were currently seated in stopped.
"Shit shit shit SHIT SHIT!" Judging by the way Donel, your driver, started cussing, this was nothing good.
"What? What happened?" In your concern, you stood up slightly, placing a hand on the seat before you, with crinkled brows trained on your dark-skinned best friend.
"We're out of petrol."
"You're kidding." Your blue-eyed friend dropped his smile in lieu of donning a frown.
"I wish I fucking was." Huffed Donel.
"No no no!" Your gaze shifted over to Dawn. "We were meant to be in the hotel by now! What the fuck?!"
"Maybe if Donel wasn't so shit at driving, we would." Once again, your gaze flew across the caravan, landing on one of your two female friends.
"Watch it, Hannah." You could sense the annoyance dripping off Donel without even so much as glancing in his direction.
"Guys, it's fine, we should just look for some service station nearby. I'm sure they'll have petrol." You reassured them.
"Y/N's right, we could even rest the night there too." Poe, the last person in your little group of six to speak, backed you up.
"What?! You must be joking if you think we should go out into the woods to look for a service station!" Lyle's gaze shot to the boy beside you, pupils shrunken in alarm. "That's literally the premise of every teen horror movie in the world!"
"Don't mind Poe, he agrees with literally everything that comes out of Y/N's mouth anytime he opens his own." Ever the one to point out other's flaws, Hannah spoke up.
"Oi!" Your gaze narrowed. "Don't bring me into this!"
"What? It's true."
You scoffed, folding your arms over each other and huffing in irritation.
As much as you wanted to deny it, you knew what she was saying was true. Poe had this weird fixation on you since he first came to your school, he only just joined your friend group recently but even before he did, you noticed how his eyes would linger on you from across the classroom.
It was probably some silly little crush he had but, oh boy, did your friends love to tease you about it.
"See that? She can't deny it." The smirk now etching onto Lyle's face made you desire to slap him until he fell unconscious.
"Leave her alone." Donel rolled his eyes as Dawn chuckled along with Lyle and Hannah. "Finding a service station is probably our best bet right now."
"Nuh uh, I am not going out into the forest." The auburn locks belonging to the clown of the group swished from side to side violently.
"Stop being a pussy, Lyle." It was your turn to tease your friend with a smirk stretched on your lips.
"I'm not! I'm just trying not to die!"
"Relax, we can just follow the road on foot and use a SatNav on our phone to find a service station, we won't even need to enter the forest."
You then chose to tune out anything else said by your friends - opting to, instead, get up from your seat and start making your way to the doors of the caravan.
Protests fell deaf to your ears as your hand made its way to the handle of the door, pushing down and swinging the door open, allowing a cool rush of air to hit you square in the face.
"Okay, I guess we're doing this." Dawn was quick to accept the current situation.
Hannah, however? Not so much. "Shouldn't someone stay behind to keep the caravan safe?"
"Shut your whiny arse up, no one is around for miles, it'll be fine." Scoffed Donel, who was the third person out of the van after yourself and Poe.
"Hey! Wait! Don't just leave us in here!" Shrieked Lyle.
Soon, everyone left the vehicle - granted, there were a few grumbles here and there but at least everyone came along.
"This is such a dumb idea."
"You think every idea is a dumb idea, Hannah."
"Yeah, well, it isn't my fault everything is dumb, Lyle."
"Including you?"
"You little-!"
You ignored the bickering going on behind you. Hannah bickered with anything that breathed, unfortunately for Lyle, that's something he did often.
Your fingers were tightly laced around your phone, a glow emitting from the back of it, illuminating the path before you. The breaths that left your mouth materialised in front of you, the winter breeze sending shivers down your spine.
A beat passed before your ears perked up at the sound of rustling in the nearby bushes.
"AHHH! IT'S A KILLER AND WE'RE ALL DEAD!" Lyle rushed behind you, latching onto your shoulders and pulling you close to his body as he effectively used you as a meat shield.
"Gah!"
"Hey! Let go of Y/N!" The glare Poe gave him from beside you was downright chilling.
Thankfully, the continued rustling of the bush paused any bickering that would have taken place had it stayed silent.
It grew more violent, causing your whole group to tense up - with Donel taking up a familiar defensive stance he often did when someone picked a fight with him.
Your shoulders ached but the pain was easy to ignore with the amount of adrenaline pumping through your veins. Maybe you should've stayed in the van, service stations could-.
"A squirrel." Hannah deadpanned. "You were all afraid of a squirrel."
"Oh shut up." Dawn rolled her eyes. "I saw you get tense too."
"That..!"
"Can you get off now, Lyle?" You looked over your shoulder with narrowed eyes.
"Right." He flung himself off you, clearing his throat in embarrassment.
As soon as his hands left your frame, you rolled your shoulders - trying to rid yourself of the pain that came with his deathly grip.
"Allow me." A new pair of arms then found themselves on your shoulders.
"Ah! Wha-?! Poe!" Your eyes widened. "Don't-! Oh... that feels nice."
You found yourself naturally leaning into the hands belonging to your most pale friend as he massaged the aching feeling away.
A small smile materialised onto your face, showing your content clearly to anyone who could see.
"Lucky! I wanna have my shoulders rubbed like that! You literally have a minion at your beck and call, Y/N!" Dawn whined upon witnessing your fortune.
"Yeah, she also has a dude staring at her every time she's anywhere near him." Surprisingly enough, it was Donel who pointed this out instead of Hannah.
"Alright, well, now that we've confirmed it was a squirrel, can we keep moving?"
You gently shrugged Poe's hands off, giving him a small, appreciative smile as thanks - thus causing his eyes to light up and a dreamy look to gloss over his now-red face.
God, he was obvious.
.
.
.
You all trudged through the seemingly endless road with tired expressions. Not much had happened since the little squirrel fiasco towards the start of your journey. Everyone was seemingly on edge, with the exception of Poe, whose awe-struck eyes never left your form for a second.
"My legs are killing me." You crossed your arms over each other, frowning at the dull ache in both your legs.
"Yeah? Well, who do you think-?"
"I can carry you!" Lyle was cut off by the other brown-haired male who pushed him to the side and entered your vision, eyes sparkling and eager to please.
"Uh... on second thought... I might be able to walk for a little while more."
You backed away with a nervous grin - unfortunately, this meant you couldn't see what you were walking into and, therefore, were unable to stop your foot from sinking into a... pressure plate on the road?
"What the... FUUUU-?!"
In an instant, the ground underneath you gave way - sending you all falling down into a dark abyss of which you did not know the contents of.
"OH MY GOD, WE'RE GONNA DIE!"
"SHUT UP, LYLE! IF I'M GONNA DIE, IT'S NOT GOING TO BE WITH YOUR VOICE BEING THE LAST THING I HEAR!"
"I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M ABOUT TO DIE SURROUNDED BY A BUNCH OF IDIOTS!"
The air felt like blades against your skin, engulfing you in a suffocating hug that you couldn't escape- a hug you couldn't breathe in.
You couldn't breathe.
How..?
How could you not breathe when air surrounded you? When everywhere you looked... there was something to inhale?
How, then, were you unable to breathe?
It didn't make sense... none of it made sense!
This wasn't fair!
You couldn't die like-!
"Y/N!" Arms wrapped around you, snapping you out of your thoughts and bringing you back to reality.
There, with a gentle smile on his face, was Poe - free-falling with you now in his arms.
How did he reach you..?
"Don't worry, you won't get hurt." He whispered into your ears, voice so reassuring you couldn't help but believe him. "Just hold me tight, I promise you'll be fine."
And so you did.
Your arms wrapped around his neck, holding on tight as he flipped over - making sure his back faced the ground instead of you.
With no other option, you put your trust in him completely before your eyes screwed shut, unknowing of the fate that awaited you.
.
.
.
"I'm not dead?" The first voice you heard when your eyes opened once more was that of Lyle's.
"Ahahaha..." The second voice was Poe.
Speaking of Poe, your hands were still wrapped around his neck and your vision was still obscured by his chest.
Your eyes widened, arms moving immediately to push yourself up - eyes locking onto his beat red face, hidden awfully behind his arm, and his dazed smile.
"Fuck... haha... I'm unworthy..." There was something unnerving about the laughter coming out of his mouth; the dreamy look he's not even putting effort in trying to hide; the red hot blush covering his face from ear-to-ear.
Officially freaked out, you scrambled to get up - right hand making contact with the plush ground and sinking down by a hefty amount.
Strange.
It was soft, cloud-like almost.
"These pillows broke our fall." Hannah pointed out, "They're soft enough to do so."
"What is this place?" Donel looked around, eyes landing on the walls littered with... illustrations? "These drawings..."
Once you got up and escaped the unsettling scene you were laying over, you joined Donel's side - observing the wall along with him.
Almost every illustration had one thing in common - a woman dressed in robes and drawn with a sun shining behind her head, donning jewellery from head-to-toe.
In one drawing, she was shown hugging a man to her chest. In another, she was shown placing her hand on top of wounded man's injury with a glow emitting from her palm. Many drawings depicting her in a positive light were spread across the stone wall, all of the same size...
Except for one.
The biggest image of them all showcased her form towering over a crowd of people who were all kneeling down, worshipping her as if she were some sort of deity.
"That's weird..." Donel drew your attention back to him, "The woman in the drawings looks a lot like you, Y/N."
"Heh, funny." Your eyes turned back to the wall, "This looks like we've stumbled across some sort of ancient-temple-thing."
"Hey, Y/N, come over here." Dawn called out to you, beckoning you over, "Doesn't this statue look like you?"
Lo and behold, there stood a statue of the very woman this room seemed to be dedicated to. Same clothes and everything. Even her close-eyed, gentle smile was the same.
"Pose in front of her, Y/N." You jumped at Lyle's sudden voice next to your ear, "I wanna get a pic of this."
"Are you sure? What if I get some type of voodoo shit done on me?"
"Pfft, you won't. You look like her! How would you get some voodoo shit done on you?"
You rolled your eyes but complied anyway, posing next to the statue as he grinned, joyfully taking his phone out and snapping the picture he oh-so-desperately desired.
"Do you guys think this is some sort of ancient civilisation?" You stopped posing to gaze up at the large statue instead.
"It sure seems like it." Dawn gave her input, "This place looks like ancient ruins."
"Uh, guys?"
"Do you think this is some ancient Rome type shit?" Donel walked over to your side, now also observing the statue.
"Guys."
"Can't be. I've never seen this woman in ancient Roman mythology." You shook your head.
"GUYS!"
"WHAT?!" Hannah scoffed.
"What's wrong with Poe?" Lyle redirected all of your attention to the mumbling mess on the ground that was Poe.
There he laid, still in the position you left him in, the blush on his face never seeming to fade. His expression remained dazed.
"He's been like that for so long now."
"He's such a freak." Hannah looked down in disgust. "Why did we let him into our group again?"
"Don't say that." You lightly reprimanded her. "Sure, he's a little weird but he just has a silly little crush."
"Crush?" Lyle scoffed in disbelief. "He worships you. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a whole shrine in his basement dedicated to you."
The thought made your face contort into a grimace.
"Haha... bea..... she lo... so .....iful..." His incoherent mumbling was very creepy. Hell, the fact that he'd been at it for the past 15 minutes was very creepy.
"Can someone snap him out of it? He's really creeping me out."
Everyone's eyes fell on you.
"Bruh. I don't wanna do it!" You took a step back.
"I'll do it." All eyes turned to the dark-skinned male.
You sighed in relief before sending him a fond smile, to which he responded to with a nod.
His feet made contact with the pillows once more, partially sinking down as he made his way to the mess on the ground, demanding, "Oi, Poe. Get up."
The male on the ground either ignored him or wasn't able to hear him, for the mumbling continued. "Haha... lo.. .o ..ch....."
"Dude." Donel crouched down before nudging Poe hard enough to bring him out of his state.
"Hu... huh..?" Poe's cloudy eyes turned clear as he made eye-contact with your best friend.
A few beats passed in silence.
Then, the albino slowly stood up and made his way over to you, standing beside you as though nothing had happened.
Weird... but you had bigger matters to attend to.
"Ooookay then, let's keep going. We don't wanna be stuck in this room for too long." You ushered everyone into the only passageway that lead out of the room.
"This is some Indiana Jones type shit, you know?" Lyle smirked, taking the lead.
"Weren't you the one who was scared shitless that we were all going to die?" Hannah side-eyed him.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Say that to Y/N's shoulders."
"Hey," You tapped on Donel's shoulder. "Thanks for stepping in for me back there."
The corner of his lips quirked up, "You getting all sappy with me, N/N?"
"It's just..." Your gaze casted downwards. "I'm not sure how to feel about all this... I'm not sure we'll..."
"Hey." A hand placed itself lightly upon your shoulder, causing your eyes to automatically trail it and meet with your friend's very own dark hues. "We're gonna be fine, a'ight? I've known you since we were kids, I won't let anything happen to you."
The sincere expression on his face had you melting, sinking into the warmth he always seemed to radiate just for you. A familiar sense of comfort washed over you and you found yourself believing his words more than you had Poe's while everyone was free-falling through the air.
Speaking of Poe...
"Y/N? Are you alright? Uncomfortable? I can carry you if you want! Better yet, I can bend down and you can use me as a chair if you're too tired to go on!" The male with skin that couldn't be more different than that of your best friend's, slotted himself in-between the two of you; harshly shoving Donel to the side in order to get to you.
"Uhhh..."
"Oi, dickhead." Scoffed Donel. "The fuck was that for?"
"You were touching Y/N." Poe didn't even bother looking at your childhood friend as he said that.
"Wha-?! I touched her shoulder. She's my fucking best friend, am I not allowed to touch my best friend now?!" Donel's temperament was always short, it was very easy to piss him off but, for once, you understood why he was so peeved.
"No."
"Why you little-!"
"Guys!" Hannah's frantic voice interrupted the argument that was about to ensue.
It was strange to hear Hannah speak in any tone that wasn't a deadpan so all of your attentions were instantly drawn to her.
It was then that you noticed the large amount of people dressed in dark robes that surrounded your other 3 friends.
Ah shit.
"Uhhhh, can we help you?" Dawn awkwardly smiled, as though the people had no malicious intent and were just there to explore like yourselves.
No one responded.
By now, it was obvious to tell that everyone in your group was creeped out. Well... everyone but Poe.
How did you know Poe wasn't near as unnerved as the rest of you? Simple. Through the arms that snaked themselves around your waist and the head that stuffed itself into the crook of your neck.
"You have no idea... how long we have waited for this moment... haha..." His grip grew tighter and his head buried even further into your neck. It was almost as though he was trying to become one with you.
"Wha-what the fuh-fuck is going oh-on?" Lyle took a step back, his cowardice nature seemingly overcoming him and rendering him incapable of speaking without a stutter.
"Shut up." A deep voice coming from one of the cloaked people completely rendered the brown-haired coward speechless.
"I knew he was fucking insane but no one listened!"
"SHUT UP, HANNAH! THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO BE PLAYING THE 'TOLD YOU SO' GAME!" Snapped Donel, glowering at the usually-composed female.
Your breathing grew labored, fear clawing at your insides.
Fuck!
You couldn't breathe again.
How does this keep happening to you?
"What do you want from us?!" The hazy image of a female backing up just barely registered in your mind.
"Our saviour returns to us!"
Cheers were the last sound you heard before your whole world turned black as you fell out of consciousness.
.
.
.
For the second time that day, your eyes opened to an unfamiliar room.
You attempted to sit up but found that there was more resistance than usual. Something was weighing you down and it was coming from your chest.
Your head tilted down, gaze landing on the pure gold necklace resting on your person. In fact, you seemed to be shrouded in quite a lot of gold now that you took a good look at yourself. Along with all of the jewellery you were wearing, was a pure white outfit similar to the one you saw on the illustrations that littered the first room you fell into with your friends.
Your friends!
Where were they?
Your head spun around the room, not a soul in sight. The only things to greet you... were the grandiose furniture lathered in gold all around the room.
This room truly looked fit for royalty.
Unfortunately, royalty was not what you were looking for. It was actually quite far from what you were looking for.
You tossed your legs over the side of the huge bed, slowly willing yourself to get off the (extremely) comfortable surface and go look for your friends.
Your feet barely made any noise as you traversed from one end of the room to the other, eventually reaching the door and grabbing the handle.
You prepared to open it up when, suddenly, you were yanked forward as the door seemingly opened on its own.
A light gasp was the next thing you heard, followed by the words, "Saviour! I'm so sorry! Please forgive me!"
You blinked twice, being met with a bowing woman wearing an outfit fitting of a maid from many years ago.
"Huh?"
"I didn't mean to yank the door open while you were on the other side! I didn't know!"
"Uhh... it's okay..?" You rose a brow.
"Ah! The Saviour is so benevolent!" Her eyes sparkled as she looked up once more.
"Woah woah what? What's with all this 'Saviour' shit?"
"We have awaited your return for decades and now you have finally graced us with your presence once more!"
"Wha-? I'm sorry, you must have gotten the wrong person." So those people that surrounded you and your friends were part of a Cult? Figures, that place was perfect for something as messed up as a Cult.
"That can't be, our very own prophet observed and verified your identity." The maid shook her head in denial.
"Your very own prophet?"
"Yes! You know him! You were even kind enough to allow him the opportunity of being close to you!"
Allowed him the opportunity to be-.
Oh.
Oh no.
Fuck!
You should've listened to Hannah when she told you he was a freak from the start!
Wanting to be nice to people really screwed you over this time, huh?
"Speaking of our leader, he asked of me to escort you to the shrine." The maid bowed down once more.
"No thank you... I'll just grab my friends and go..." You tried to turn and leave but found yourself face-to-face with the maid once again as she swerved around you to block your exit.
"Oh but-! We have prepared so many gifts for you! And Raya has missed you so much!"
"Raya?"
"Your mythical beast."
"Mythical beast?"
Okay. These people were definitely crazy.
"Look... you seem like really lovely people-" not "- but I really need to get going so if you could tell me where my friends are, I'd really appreciate it."
You casted her an awkward smile along with two thumbs up.
"You will be able to find out once you go to the shrine, I promise!"
Alright, this girl wasn't letting up. You had a feeling you wouldn't get out of here without complying. It was an unfamiliar place so running aimlessly would just be stupid. Your best bet was to go along until you'd found your friends and then book it the second you saw an opening.
"Okay, fine. I'll come with."
"Yay!"
She grasped your hand and tugged you away with a pep in her step, expression molded into one of glee.
”Let’s go see Raya first!”
She led you through a corridor littered with those illustrations you saw in that room you and your friend fell into. Somehow, meeting someone as devoted as the maid made those drawings look that much more creepy.
You walked past lots of people, each one stopping before you to bow their head before resuming what they were previously doing. You could even catch some people talking about you.
"Is that her?"
"Wow! The Saviour herself!"
"What an honour!"
It was... weird.
"We're here!"
She opened a large gold-plated door, revealing a giant tiger on the other side. A giant tiger that bared its teeth and growled at her.
Well, it wasn't mythical but it sure was a beast.
"Raya! We have found your mistress!" The maid seemed unphased by the mammal - you, however, cowered behind her.
You nearly shrieked as she pushed you forward, gesturing her hand towards the beast. "Are you crazy?! That thing'll eat me alive!"
"Nonsense, Raya loves you, she'd never hurt you like that."
Your shrunken pupils landed on the growling form of the tiger, whole body shaking in fear of it pouncing on you. "Nice, kitty..."
"Go on, pet her."
Your hand slowly reached out, eyes squinted shut.
This was it, the razor sharp teeth of this feline would pierce a whole right through your hand. So long, left hand, it was nice knowing you.
Wait- this was way too soft to be teeth.
You opened one eye and stared straight at the soft fluffy fur that your fingers ran through, both eyes opening wide upon hearing the big cat purr and witnessing it press further into your hand.
"Aw, such a fateful reunion!" The maid cupped her face with glossy eyes, way too into this moment than she should be.
"Reunion? I've never seen this tiger in my life." You deadpanned.
"Ah, nevermind that, we must go to receive your 'welcome back' gifts!" She clapped her hands before gesturing you to follow after her once more.
The both of you walked along the corridor once more, this time with the tiger following straight after.
"Oh my Saviour! Raya has never been so complacent!"
"Well, of course she is, that's the Saviour she's with."
"Only the Saviour can make Raya obedient!"
The constant praise and love you were getting was something you were not that used to. The only praise you ever got was that of Poe's daily worshipping or Donel's occasional compliment. There wasn't much else.
"Ah, she's finally arrived."
You shook your head from side-to-side, snapping out of your little daydream and finding yourself face-to-face with the very male who is the reason why you were here.
To your absolute horror, however, he wasn't the only person you found yourself familiar with in the room.
"Y/N!" Dawn yelled, struggling against the hands that restrained.
The loud sound of a slap echoed through the room.
"Do not utter the Saviour's name so casually." The male, who slapped her, shouted.
"The fuck do you mean? She's our fucking friend!" Scoffed Hannah.
Another slap.
"You are not worthy of the Saviour."
"Not worthy, my arse."
"ENOUGH!" Yelled Poe. "You shall be the first sacrifice."
"Sacrifice?" Your eyes widened in alarm. "Woah woah woah woah. I don't want any sacrifices, that's just unnecessary."
"Nonsense, my Saviour. You need to regain your power and you are unable to do so without sacrifices." Poe regarded you with loving eyes before his gaze turned back to your friends. "Bring up the first sacrifice."
Hannah struggled in vain, unable to stop herself from being dragged to the top of the stage that rested before a gold-plated throne.
"Have the Saviour seated, Maya."
The maid beside you bowed her head. "Of course, Sir Poe. Right this way, my lady."
You were taken to the seat. Although, it wasn't without resistance.
"LET GO OF ME!"
"Please, don't struggle. I wish not to harm you."
"STOP! LET GO!"
"Y/N!" Donel was able to free one of his hands before it was immediately seized again.
You were roughly shoved onto the seat before being held down by several of the 'followers'.
"NO! STOP! I DON'T WANT THIS!" Tears were now freely flowing down your face, all your energy used up as your struggling slowly was put to a stop.
"With this sword I hereby bestow the life force of this lower being onto our Saviour."
"No... please..."
"I ALWAYS KNEW YOU WERE A FUCKING FREAK!" Screamed Hannah.
"In the name of our Saviour!"
The sword sliced right through your beautiful friend, piercing her straight through the heart right in front of your eyes.
What made this experience truly terrifying, though, was the green light that seeped through her mouth and eyes before entering your own.
In an instant, the energy that left you before returned tenfold. The feeling was invigorating. It was like electricity was running through your very veins. It felt wrong but oh-so-right.
The moment was over as quick as it started though, leaving behind the bleeding body of someone you considered to be a good friend.
"Holy shit..." Lyle was trembling.
"Fuck..." Donel looked unnerved.
"..." And Dawn? She looked like she had accepted this as the inevitable.
The horrible, ugly feeling of guilt clawed it's way through your insides, a devastated expression finding its home on your face.
"Bring in the next one. Feed this one to Raya." Poe glared down at Hannah's body, mustering up the audacity to kick it.
"No... no! Nononononono!" Lyle screamed. "Please please please! I'll do anything! Just please spare me! I'll even join this stupid Cult! Please!"
"Silence." Poe scoffed. "You could never worship our lovely Saviour the way we do."
He cried, wailing and whining like a baby, terrified for his life.
"No... please... stop... don't hurt him..."
"In the name of the Saviour!"
Suddenly... silence.
Lyle's wails were no more.
Just like before, a green light left his eyes and mouth, entering yours just like Hannah's did.
The power rushed through you once more but you couldn't find it in yourself to care. Too hurt by the death of your friends to bother acknowledging the power.
"No. Please... no more..."
Dawn was then taken, however, unlike the other two, she did not struggle.
Her eyes were dull, lifeless almost. It was as though you were already staring into her corpse.
She said nothing. Didn't whine. Didn't cry. Didn't curse.
She merely bowed her head down and shut her eyes.
"Ooh! I like this one!" One of the followers from the huge crowd witnessing this spoke up.
"In the name of the Saviour!"
Another surge of light. Another sickening sense of guilt.
Until finally...
"No..." Your eyes grew wider than before, more panic heard in your tone. "No! Not Donel! Anyone but Donel!"
They were taking him. Your childhood friend. They were taking him from you! They were going to kill him!
"NO!"
"In the name of-!"
"STOP!"
Your eyes flashed white, your hair defied gravity, and your voice resounded several times.
A huge force pushed back everyone in the room, causing them to either stumble and fall or slam straight into a wall.
A chorus of gasps resonated through the room.
"DON'T HURT HIM! THAT IS AN ORDER!"
"A direct order from the Saviour herself!"
"Oh no! We've really upset her!"
"Pray, everyone, pray! Beg for her mercy!"
No one moved.
No one said a word.
Not until Poe spoke up. "Very well, if it's a direct order from the Saviour. Who are we to disobey?"
Your hair fell back down as your eyes returned to normal, relief coursing through you.
And then... alarm.
"What the fuck was that?!" You screamed.
"Your powers have awakened, Saviour! It is a wondrous day!" Maya clapped from beside you.
"Yes! A great day indeed! We shall celebrate!" Grinned Poe. "First, take him away."
"What? I told you not to hurt him!" You glared.
"And hurt him we won't." Poe smiled gently, well as gently as a murderer could. "We simply need to... reform him. Can't have him running around with his current mindset."
"Huh?"
"Nevermind that! Now is a time for party!" He then turned to the huge crowd of people. "Our Saviour has returned to us!"
"Long live the Saviour!"
BONUS
The past few months have been spent worrying for your bestfriend and wondering where they took him.
Anytime you inquired about Donel's whereabouts, the topic was switched to something else and the question was straight up dodged. The only concrete answer you've gotten about him is that he's alive and unharmed. That, at least, quells your worry a little.
Regardless, you really missed him.
You missed having people to talk to like a friend instead of talking to people who praise you after every sentence you utter.
Hell, you couldn't believe you were saying this but... you missed being insulted.
You missed the feeling of being offended. You missed cracking a corny joke that no one laughed at. You missed being yelled at.
You missed being a human and not some otherworldly being worshipped for merely breathing.
"Saviour!" Poe's voice broke through your thoughts. "I have a gift for you!"
"NO MORE SACRIFICES!" Your eyes flashed all white and your hair rose for a split second, features quickly returning back to normal upon witnessing the look of surprise on Poe's face and clearing your throat. "Ahem. I mean, I don't really want it if it's a sacrifice."
"Don't worry, my Saviour." His eyes glazed over with that familiar look of infatuation you were very well acquainted with. "It's not a sacrifice! In fact, it's even better."
He stepped to the side, revealing your dark-skinned friend in all his glory.
"Donel!" You rose from your throne, flinging yourself onto the male you hadn't spent a moment not thinking about. "I missed you!"
"Wow..." His voice was barely above a whisper. "The Saviour herself is hugging me."
"Wha- what?" You frowned, pulling away to gaze into his eyes. His eyes that were now glazed over in that oh-so-familiar emotion you'd come to despise. "Donel..?"
"It was rather hard to get him so devoted to you but we managed it in the end."
You couldn't believe it.
Gone was the Donel who playfully smirked at you when he walked by your side, teasing you about your height. Gone was the Donel who's temper would end up landing him in many fights he would emerge victorious from. Gone was the Donel who was once your best friend.
In his wake... was an empty husk of what he once was, now reduced into another worshipping vessel for you.
And yet...
You couldn't bring yourself to care.
"Oh, Donel." You pulled him back into your embrace. "How I've missed you so much."
"I've missed you too, Saviour."
Fun fact! I got the idea for this from the movie pitch perfect lmao. Don't ask how, it just came to me too suddenly.
