What is Tintin’s favourite music record?
In Tintin and the Picaros, Tintin tells the Captain to be quiet and insists on playing a record that "he simply adores" to drown out their conversation while he reveals that the villa they’re staying at is bugged:
Tumblr media
What record does he play? In the comic, it’s clearly Bianca Castafiore’s famous Jewel Song:
Tumblr media
But what of the adaptations based on the comics? Tintin and the Picaros only has four adaptations: three radio plays (in German, Danish and Swedish), and the 1991 Nelvana TV show.
The TV show is the most similar to the comics, in that it also uses a record of Bianca Castafiore singing to drown out the sound of their conversation.
The German radio play (1984-1987), has Tintin play a rock song:
In the Swedish one (1970s-1980s), he puts on a mambo record (had to add as video because the audio file didn't work, sorry!):
The Danish one (1972-1983), despite being hard to hear, has him put on Dancing Queen by ABBA:
It’s clear the TV show was concerned with being accurate (and maybe didn’t want to choose a song that would age poorly or that people wouldn’t associate with Tintin), while both the German and Danish radio plays went for something that was popular at the time. The Swedish one is probably the most realistic of them all, because they would probably be more likely to find local music among the records at the villa.
Are any of these actually songs that Tintin likes? One can assume that he’s just putting on whatever is at hand, but it is interesting to see what each adaptation thought would be a likely choice for him to find in the villa he and his friends are prisoners in.

tintin in the 80s would not be complete without 'take on me' by a-ha. bonus points to have 'the sun always shines on tv' because it's the perfect kind of upbeat but melancholic sound that would fit the mentally ill vibes of these peeps

FTH 2024 Unlisted Fandom Challenge!
All right, there was a peek at the leaderboard in yesterday's numbers post. Today we're giving you the whole thing. The list below contains all 84 write-in fandoms. The majority of them have only one offer —so far. One more signup for them will jump them onto the leaderboard. Two more signups will put them in a tie for second place. Any fandom that gets an additional 4 signups will challenge for the lead ...
And we've had fandoms in years past that went from not on the list at all, to nearly the top of the leaderboard in the time between numbers updates. Will that be your fandom this year?
Signups are OPEN!
One quick request - when writing in your fandoms, please avoid using the ' | ' character. It gives google sheets (and your mods) a headache.
And now, on to the numbers! At not quite 48 hours of signups, this is the complete list of write-in fandoms -

you know I think the reason that tintin isn't much popular in America is the maybe he was there only one time in his adventures ,but ironically tintin in america is the most sold out tintin stories all over the world and in America it says in the official tintin site that it's the most famous book of tintin ever, honestly he could rule there now if he was there for a few more times🥲as a kid when I watched the tv show I didn't even realize that he doesn't live in America Lol
Honestly speaking I don't find this a reason enough for not being popular in America. I don't know if and how many Franco Belgian comics are popular in America in the first place. However in Canada they seem to be popular? And take for example how many manga are popular in America despite not being placed in America. How is that explained as a phenomenon?
I think it's kinda strange to expect a story can be popular only if it takes place in an environment familiar with the country where it's being distributed. If this was the case, many popular franchises and stories wouldn't be famous in most of the world and just be limited to the country of their origin. And yes, surprisingly, not everything that is common and popular in America it's considered the same for every country.
I don't know if more books of Tintin had taken place in America, it would have made him more popular there. Maybe or maybe not. I just find it weird why his adventures taking place in many parts of the world and mostly in Belgium could reduce his chances of getting more known in America. And as you said, his hometown and lifestyle is west-centric that much you could imagine him being in any country of the west world, even in America.
So the reasons why he isn't that popular there could be many and I haven't done any deep research on that topic but it's very interesting, especially if you wonder why something that it's not that popular mostly in America, while it is well known in many parts of the world, it's considered unpopular as a fact.

Tintin adaptations throughout the years
The Adventures of Tintin have been adapted more than a dozen times into several different media, including radio, movie, television, theater, and video games. Most of these adaptations are based on the original 23 comics:
Tumblr media
*Not included due to lack of information Radio Luxembourg radio play (1956-1961) - French Radio-Canada radio play (1962-1965?) - French
The most popular books to adapt have been The Secret of the Unicorn, Red Rackham’s Treasure, The Seven Crystal Balls, and Prisoners of the Sun (with ten adaptations each), while Tintin in the Land of the Soviets (with zero adaptations) and Tintin in Congo (with only two) have been the least popular. There have also been no adaptations of Tintin and Alph-Art. It’s interesting to note that the Swedish radio play also adapted Tintin and the Lake of Sharks, despite it not being one of the official books of the series.
The languages on the table indicate the original language the adaptation came out in; however in some were also made available in other languages as well. This is the case with the TV shows, movies (except the one from 1947), and video games.
.
There have also been other Tintin adaptations not based on original comics that were either approved or tolerated by Hergé and Moulinsart/Tintinimaginatio (links may lead to French sites when English is not available):
Movies
Tintin et le mystère de la Toison d’Or (1961) - French
Tintin et les oranges bleues (1964) - French
Tintin et le lac aux requins (1972) - French
Plays
Tintin aux Indes : Le Mystère du diamant bleu (1941) - French
Monsieur Boullock a disparu (1941) - French
Books and short stories
Dupont et Dupond, détectives (1943) - French
Tintin et Milou chez les Toreadors (1947) - French
Tintin in the New World: A Romance (1993) - English
All three movies have had books made, though only Tintin and the Lake of Sharks was adapted into an official comic. The 2011 movie was also adapted as a novel.
The plays and the short story  Tintin et Milou chez les Toreadors have seemingly been lost to time, so all that remains are summaries online and the occasional photo.
Interestingly, the first adaptations date back to 1941, but it isn’t until 1947 that the first adaptation of one of the comics is made. Since Hergé’s death, only one adaptation not based on the original comics has been published, and only because it received his approval before his death.
